When I first tried contacting Sal, I left him a message. He didn't call me until after a week saying he was very busy. He went to my house and we discussed what I wanted done. He told me it shouldn't be a problem. He would prepare a proposal and email it to me. He left that day and never to be heard from again. We recently hired Sal to remove our old brick on the front of our home and install new stone. We weren't exactly sure what We wanted so Sal provided us with ideas, options and samples to help form our decision. He made suggestions to better our project and they did just that. Sal did a fantastic job from start to finish. His attention to detail never fell short and our home looks beautiful and like a new home. We have neighbors stopping by to ask us who did our masonry work and how great it looks. Sal is not only skilled, but he does the job as though the home is his own. He is honest, trustworthy and dependable. We had a least 5 different contractors bid our job and he was by far the most professional, knowledgeable and cost efficient. This is a revision to an earlier review written regarding Fine Home Renovations and Sal. My husband and I hired Sal to renovate our kitchen. This project required him to completely remove a wall and replace all cabinets, appliances, and backsplash- needless to say it was a large and expensive job for which we expected excellent customer service. We were assured that the job would be completed in a timely manner and that he would be working solely on our job. That did not happen. From the beginning, Sal was inconsistent- would show up late, take long lunches, and/or leave early. As mentioned in another customer review, he always had a "reason," but somehow our job's time frame was extended and extended and extended again. Meanwhile, the bills began to pile up. Certain "issues" would arise that would require us to spend more out of pocket money and would take more time. Long story short - the job ended up costing us much more and took way too long. That, in and of itself, was a disappointment; however, the work was completed well and we were happy to simply have it completed. Here's where everything went spiraling downhill - Due to an unexpected job opportunity, we sold our house. In obtaining paperwork for our new buyers, we found out that Sal did not obtain permits for any of the work that was completed on our job. This was a huge surprise to us, as it was stated in the contract that the permits were to be obtained by Contractor. His response for not obtaining permits was that he accidentally left the language of the template in the contract for our job. It gets worse. Upon finding out about these missing permits, we had to pay out of pocket to have a city inspector come out to issue permits (this eventually required another contractor to remove and replace flooring, rework parts of the electrical that did not meet city code, and cost thousands of dollars). We asked Sal to come meet with the city inspector as it was his job in the first place to obtain these permits and call the city inspector out during the course of the job. He agreed to meet the inspector. However, after this meeting, he charged us for two hours of his time and stated that he would have to place a lien on the house if payment was not received which would hold up the sale of our house! read more

I hired SAL of FHRenovations.com on Yelp... without knowledge of his prior work history of 20+ years of construction projects in the SF Bay Area & Sacramento area... although I still knew he was a California licensed contractor "B" (general contractor status) meaning he he's qualified to do many residential projects (Very important note... lotsa folks "use" other non-licensed folks to do the primary & critic work under their license which is not good for business, liability etc...). Sal came this morning and finished my job in 3 hours. Did an Amazing job on my moulding in the kitchen and was very professional.

We hired Sal to tear out an old rusted tub and install a nice, modern walk-in shower. He did a fantastic job, and patiently helped us design and coordinate the shower design elements to the rest of the bathroom. It turned out better than I ever imagined. Sal is highly skilled and very knowledgeable, and helped us identify some pre-existing drainage and plumbing issues, and repaired them at no additional cost to us. From tiling, to plumbing, to electrical, he tackled each phase of the remodel like an old pro. My wife and I found him to be very honest and trustworthy, conscientious, and considerate. We can only fault him on one account, in that he took a bit longer to finish the job than he originally quoted. We are in process of going to small claims court. Sheetrock is uneven and cracked. Outdoor pillars are falling apart because they were not weatherproof. Gas line that was modified for a fireplace was leaking and had to be repaired by PGE before the house blew up. The house was built in 1945. There were no cracks in the ceiling that had been in place for decades. A house that old does not settle 2 weeks after a new ceiling is in place causing serious cracks. A bad workman always blames his tools. Repair order from PGE explains the gas leak. Pictures to follow. Numerous emails and text messages and phone calls have been unanswered. Sal (there is no WE - he is a one man band) stated he had moved to Lincoln from San Jose and was not driving back. I hired Sal to build brand new kitchen drawers. My previous ones were made of plastic and held on with duct tape. Sal was the only one that got exactly what I wanted. He explained everything that he would do and totally delivered. Within one week I had new drawers. He even added soft close. He did a few extra things because he said he just couldn't something that wasn't perfect. I really appreciated that. After the drawers were done I decided to do the counters. So, Sal installed my Sliding door. Well it's leaking with all this rain. I contacted him about it and he says he did it for "free" so it's not his problem. He seems to think because I figured out that he doubled the Electrical contractors bid that he did the sliding door for free. Once he quoted me the Electrical contractors quote which doubled overbite, he offered to put my sliding door in at no cost to me. He knows the only reason was because he made an extra 1400.00 on the Electrical. Don't be fooled by his initial concern. read more

I have asked Sal to fixed the water pressure pipe due to some initial leaking. I am very satisfied with the outcome. Sal took time to help me buy the parts for the fixing and also patiently explain the parts that he bought. after that day I thought my pressure was good but apparently not good enough, so I asked him to return twice to readjust the pressure; he was very patient to return and fixed readjust the pressure. I had a pretty good experience with Sal. Sal custom made a mantel for my fireplace that made me say "wow!" He also refinished my front door which had many dings and old paint showing through. I appreciate that Sal gave me a quote right away and then got started on the project the next day. He even came in on a Sunday to work. On the way out the door, with my final check in hand, Sal noticed that he missed filling in two ding marks. He said that he would send someone out the next day to fix them. Here is my experience with Sal. He lacks ANY work ethic. His idea of working is coming in around 10/11 am, you will never know an exact time, and leaving around 2-3 pm. He keeps referring to my "duplicate accounts". He basically had another customer write a negative review, and now is saying that its me who did this. Hilarious! Don't let him purchase items on your behalf, EVER. Purchase all items yourself, even if it is inconvenient. He will purchase items and then without you knowing, will return and get a store credit. I had to find out about this the hard way. We asked him to redo a small kitchen in our cottage. He stated that it would take him two weeks, that was his timeframe. Great, we wanted to move forward. It took him TWO MONTHS. This kitchen is in our back cottage, it is seriously small. He would come whenever he wanted to finish the job. His usual time would be around 10-11 am. Sometimes, he would even go to other jobs ,when he had told me he was coming. I would be waiting for him. He kept complaining about how expensive it is in the bay area, and he wants to move because he has 5 kids to support. Maybe he should wake up early and finish his jobs. His idea of working nights is 5 pm. He also was not upfront with the "extra" fees he charged. He made a ton of change orders. Many contractors include picking up items as part of their job. He never stated he would be charging me for it. Make sure to ask him if you have him pick up. Sal picked up a couple items for me, and then after the fact, tried to add it in his change order. I did not change anything on the project. It was a kitchen redo. Pretty straightforward. What he made a "change order" for was after he opened up the walls, he said there was some issue. I would think most customers who hire a contractor would want to know ahead of time if there is a possibility of the price going up due to something behind the wall. It should be stated clearly in his paperwork. My husband was so frustrated because he also left the office next to the kitchen dusty, and did not move back any of the items he had moved around. You get what you pay for. He is cheaper than others, but I have learned my lesson. Time is money, and when someone goes grossly over the timeline, its just not worth it. Please message me if you would like to see the issues with the tile, or the many text messages we have exchanged between us. Also note, the reviews seem to show that he does better with very small jobs. Even then, he takes his time. The bigger and longer jobs are where most people have issues. He doesn't have any guys he works with, which means it takes forever for him to get done. He also loves to talk and talk. Unfortunately, I work from home, so thats a big issue. Sal thinks he is a detective. Yes -there are many people that have twins, that use the same contractors! I am sure that time will show many more negative reviews. Sal is by far the most stand up guy there is. He helped me get my mattress that had blown off the trailer during our move. What guy stops traffic on the 280 freeway and gets my mattress back to his truck and helps delivery it to our trailer. Not many if any. He is the kind of person that wants to help and do a great job. We purchased a renovated house in San Jose.
