I had a water heater that rusted through on Easter Sunday of this year which flooded my living room. After turning off the water to the unit, I immediately went upstairs to file an insurance claim with USAA. Being Easter Sunday, I figured it would probably be Monday when the crew would arrive. Surprisingly, they arrived on Sunday roughly an hour after I had filed my claim. The immediately went to work putting dehumidifiers and fans in place and cordoned off the area with tape and plastic liner. The following morning, I awoke to a huge pool of water that had spread to my kitchen. Apparently the water heater, which was full when the water was shut off, had finally given way overnight and had emptied the water through a good part of my downstairs. A crew came out later that day and started the mitigation process. Every interaction I had with Lawton was professional, super prompt, and especially courteous. I highly recommend! read more

This company was recommended to me by my insurance company for roof replacement. They treated me as an insignificant person from the very start. The communication was awful. They provided a huge scheduling window and refused to communicate as to when they would start the work exactly. At the end of this nightmare, my husband stayed home three times to complete an inspection. No one showed up or called. They never completed the inspection. I have nails protruding out of my front porch covering. They did not paint the vents in the back of the house only the front showing from the street. They also repaired the ceiling inside and incorrectly reinstalled my recessed lighting. After ghosting us for the inspection they demanded payment and have never heard from them again. Absolute WORST construction company I have ever dealt with and they were only selected because they somehow managed to get on some insurance company list of referred (which they through my claim managed to get themselves removed from that list for my insurance company). They not only were completely incompetent, they provided a huge timeframe of when the work would be done but verbally said "oh thats just the template, there's no way the work will take 3 months". They finished 2 days AFTER the deadline just as I was researching suing them for breach of contract. The communication with zilch, I had to initiate every call, text for updates. They probably would have never contacted me if I hadn't. If your insurance company suggests this company, I highly recommend you ask for any other options besides this shady crew. read more

About a 18 months ago we had a water leak beneath a downstairs shower. Our insurance company recommended Lawton. They completed the work but soon we began having issues with the shower in the bathroom. The initial problem was the grout began falling out of the tile. We contacted Lawton who told us the issue should not be occurring and they would fix it. We were told we would get a call back which did not happen. We attempted to reach out another four times over six weeks and each time were told the problem would be fixed and that a person would call and set up a time to come to the house. Again, no call backs. We finally hired another individual to fix the problem. He pointed out a number of errors in the remodeling work and stated whoever did the work "took a lot of shortcuts". The flooring in shower is fading in places and looks terrible. My suspicion and his was the tile and grout were never sealed correctly. We also learned the company replaced half of the bathroom wall with sheetrock, even though the part that was torn out and the rest of home was plaster and higher grade material. It is recommended that we take pictures and have an independent inspector check the work to see what other shortcuts may have been taken which we plan to do. And by the way we still have not received a call back! If you need restoration or contracting work in a residential setting, I would recommend going elsewhere as my experience is two fold - the company does less that satisfactory work and secondly, they do not stand my their work. We are now considering if we have legal options. read more

Update 1/26: Finally get a meeting scheduled with Gomer. One hour before the meeting I get an email stating he has to reschedule. I didn't get a phone call, and was on my way home to have this meeting, I happened to open my email, and see that it was cancelled. I email and call, and finally the office personal connected me with Gomer. He states that I am responsible for getting the cracking and broken floors fixed from the subcontractor that Lawton hired. So again, the run around. After reaching out to the California Contractors State License Board, I have confirmed that this is the responsibility of Lawton, and not to be put on the homeowner. No one is getting back to me. Update 12/25: We never heard from Devon again about rescheduling, I checked in with her almost every other day tried calling tried texting tried emailing after two months of no response. Reached out to Gomer Masumbuko (COO). Let him know what was going on, he informed me that Devon Kelly had been let go from the company. I sent him all the texts I had from Devon. He said we would connect in two days. Weeks go by, I have to repeatedly attempt to connect with Gomer. Update 10/25: reached out, at least once a month, to get the work scheduled. I sent updated videos and photos of the pieces that were breaking more and more, and the new spots. We kept getting the runaround. Stated our concern that we were coming up on a year since the floor was finished. She said the floor was ordered and we set a date. We were canceled on the morning of. Update 2/25: Reached out to Devon, project manager, to let her know that the warranty work done in the original area (kitchen), by the subcontractor that Lawton had hired, was failing. Planks of the flooring are cracking and separating. Also, lots of loud popping and cracks. She confirm that that should not be happening, and was going to get it warrantied from Home Depot, where the flooring was purchased from. update (12/24): Our floors have been redone. I didn't think anything would come of leaving my review, but Lawton did try to make things right. The manager that helped us, Devon, was great. She was available to text, with questions, and wanted to make sure we were happy. She even scheduled additional work for us with the subcontractor that Lawton had hired to put the floors down in the warranty. Update: Since posting this review the COO has reached out and informed me that the crew, that worked on our home, no longer works for Lawton Construction. They are going to try to fix some of the things, that they can fix, and apologized for everything we went through. I will update this review once again, once the work is redone with a new crew, under Devon Kelly. Original review: Terrible, terrible, terrible! So many things went wrong with this company, and the job never got completed fully, and the craftman ship is awful. There is grout that is missing from tile on backsplashes. Workers didn't turn off water and had gallons of water that leaked into crawl space, so needed additional mitigation team, which of course they wanted my insurance company to pay for, even though it was THEIR mistake. Had to have industrial fans running for days, and had a $400 electric bill that WE had to pay. Was told the job was "small and would take minimal time to complete, 5 weeks"well 5 months later I had to hound them to get it finished. Would talk to one manager and get one story, and talk to another manager and get a compeletely different story. Learned that they didn't have employees for the job so they found others "who said they knew how to do the job". After job was completed they sent yet again another bill saying that they had mistakes on the other one and didn't account for certain things, also their fault! A year later, the grout is coming out of the tile and have to wear shoes or feet get cut on the tile.Towel rack coming out of wall, to discover that they didn't repair and paint the whole wall- they hung the hardware then painted around it. As we look closer we notice there is paint on the cabinets, or chipped from their tools, and most of the hardware in bathroom. Paint tape left. Floor tiles left chipped. Tack holes left. Smoke detector never hung back up. A corner of wall was never repaired at all, and there is just painters tape closing up the whole in the sheetrock. We had to paint and touch up kitchen walls and cabinets after they left. Hole behind backsplash was never filled, they just painted over it hoping we wouldn't notice. Tiles on floor/wall backsplash don't line up with the floor tiles. We can't use one of our floor vents, because they cut the tiles too big and had to hammer the vent shut to make it fit! So unprofessional all around, and looks like a high school trades class did the work, but charge top shelf. Would love to have all this work redone by someone else, but we don't have the funds to spend $30K, so we are stuck with it. As another review stated, don't walk from this company, RUN! read more

Lawton was recommended by our insurance when our house flooded due to a water line break. They first came out in March 2020 for the estimate. They ran numbers and everything appeared very promising. That's when everything went downhill. Their project manager Mike comes off as energetic and personable at first but once the job is locked up he's impossible to get hold of. He never responds to text or emails and all calls go unanswered unless you occasionally call from a different phone number. A job that should have taken several months went on for 9 months! The work promised was not even complete. The funds from the insurance were used up on very suspicious up-charges. ( Go over your invoice with a fine tooth comb!) We were left to finish two bathrooms on our own, including installing the toilets, vanities, and plumbing. All the work is subcontracted out to the lowest bidder (i.e. drywall, floors, kitchen etc) The workmanship is extremely sloppy and there is zero accountability because they just blame the subcontractors they hired. I can go on for days about the poor job they did but what people need to really be aware of is to watch their invoice. We we forced to question every line because some of these charges were made up. (Move refrigerator back into place : $100. When in actuality the refrigerator didn't even fit the the spot framed.) The final invoice included about $15,000 of work that was not even done. Calls to Mike to try and make sense of the bill went unanswered. It wasn't until they started calling to collect their money when we finally got hold of Mike. We basically told them that we weren't paying until Mike justified the bill and cc'd the company owner in all the emails. Magically he finally responded. In the end, this job started in March 2020 and dragged on til January 2021 with lots of the work left unfinished. This company has zero integrity. From what I've read, they were starting to go under as a company and in a last ditch effort took on every job possible. From the looks of all the recent reviews, all those jobs suffered. This was one of the most stressful things we've even been through. We hope to save you the time, heartaches and tears shed over this company. Do your research and go with anyone else. read more

These guys are top drawer. I had a ceiling leak and Nationwide Insurance referred me to them. They called me immediately and showed up to dry out my family room and find the source of the leak. I must have met a dozen of their guys over the next week as they had industrial humidifiers and fans going and they came back every few days to check humidity and mold levels with high tech tools. Every one of their people showed up on time, told me what he was going to do, did it, then showed it and explained it to me afterwards. They were all well trained and knowledgeable. Lawton's mitigation team of Ellis, Demarkus, and Josh were excellent. They removed flooring damaged by a water spill from our condo association laundry room, as well as a secondary spill from a leaking dishwasher. They were very responsive -- even over a weekend. They listened carefully, mapped out a plan to dry out the area, removed mold and toxins, and put things back together. Both Ellis and Demarkus were very quick to respond to questions I've had throughout the process. Leaving a review for Demarkus and Jose Context: leaking window frame from semi new install, years of leakage and I had no idea how bad it was. insurance recommend specialist come out to survey. Thank goodness they came out bc we found stuff... Demarkus was very polite and kind. He took the time to explain to this curious home owner what was going on. At every step, I knew exactly what was going on and why. I also had the necessary evidence to prove the new window was at fault, thanks to their surveying tool! I really appreciated the attention to detail by Demarkus and Jose. The work was spec'd and they followed their plan to a "T" - their make shift containment area kept all the debris contained - I saw clean cuts, and care when removing and destroying. I really appreciated this bc it could have been worse if there was no care in the work. Thank you Demarkus and Jose for the care and attention to detail. Upon leaving Demarkus took a look at the exposed wall and wires and asked if I would mind if they sealed it off with plastic tarp to protect my kids from touching stuff. That is care. Update 1/20/2020 - Well, I received the final bill for the work done. The document they sent on DocuSign was dated on January 16th, for me to acknowledge the work was done by December 4. If it was indeed finished at that point, why did I receive no email, no phone call, no text from Mike or Lisa stating that? When I addressed the money I had to put out to correct several issues, Mike credited me for not replacing the window panes that needed replacing, but then made the statement that they were not responsible for breaking said glass! What?? I never accused them of breaking the glass, it was broken before they started, hence the need for replacement. It just goes to show that these people do NOT read their emails! He gave me a credit of $350.02 for the handyman having to fix their bad work (see the attached photo) and for the electrician to troubleshoot and make work the GFI in the kitchen. Mike actually wrote that the GFI did not work before OR after they replaced it. Fine, but why did they not COMMUNICATE that with me? Because the company has no communication skills, none. Mike blamed the delay in finishing the project on the kitchen cabinets that crumbled and had to be replaced. That is all well and good, but if they had started on the date in the contract (September 2) and had actually dedicated people to work on my house, they would have finished this "two week" project in the time allotted, the cabinets would have crumbled in the first two weeks, and the delay would have gone AT MOST two weeks after the October 1st end date. That would have been acceptable to me, as it would not have been their fault. But, he points out that I had agreed to the delay - what choice did I have at that point? They had me hostage. There will be a very big packet going to the California State Contractors' Licensing Board, as well as to Contractor Connection and State Farm. read more

Demarcus and Isaiah with LC were amazing. They were in constant communication with my adjuster on what they were doing. They communicated what they were doing and with ME as well, throughout the entire process. The mold problem that seemed overwhelming and stressful before the process started, has become manageable. I can't give enough Kudos to everyone who has helped me and my family with this water disaster. Having mold in the house with small children is no joke. We arrived at our mountain home on a Thursday night to find two large windows shattered with shards of glass all over the floor. Since we have two small dogs I was overwhelmed and in a panic. Our daughter did not want us picking up glass so she searched the internet for an emergency clean-up service and found Lawton Construction & Restoration. I called (about 9pm) and a dispatcher connected me with Travis and I explained we didn't need anyone that night but the next day would be wonderful, if possible. Travis called the next morning at 7:15, assuring me their crew (out of Lincoln) was on the way to us ( in Truckee). The only thing frustrating was the "project manager" Chris was non existent. And would only text me when I had questions he wouldn't call me. Which was frustrating. I received more information from the crew doing the work. Dominic and crew who repaired our Sheetrock, taped , textured, painted. Needs a raise. He & crew showed up on time. My family and I experienced a flood shortly before we headed out of town for the holidays, and with a new baby in tow, this unexpected disaster only compounded our stress. From a clogged toilet on the third floor of our home, water had cascaded through pendant lights in our kitchen on the second floor and made its way to the ground floor garage, saturating walls and flooring throughout its journey. Our insurance company connected us to Lawton Construction and Restoration , and I wanted to share a bit about our experience working with Kristyn, Demarkus, and Gomer. Although it was late in the day, Kristyn reached out and was extremely helpful, offering patience as I tried to articulate what happened and operated with a tremendous sense of urgency. She sent out a team to begin work on our property that evening. We were able to remotely provide access to our home, and Demarkus got to work within just a few hours of our initial contact. He allowed me to virtually walk him through our home and point out potentially damaged areas. That evening, he regularly called to keep us informed of his progress. He needed a bit more time to finish, so he came back the next day. And the next. And continued to come until everything was taken care of, despite the approaching Christmas holiday. He was informative, helpful, knowledgeable, professional, and most importantly, trustworthy. Opening our home to a stranger was a bit scary, but Demarkus went out of his way to build a positive rapport and a sense of trust. There is absolutely no way we could have been in better hands. Gomer also offered outstanding customer service. He frequently checked in to provide status updates, offered kind words, and ensured everything was running smoothly. Honestly, I was (and continue to be) amazed at his incredible response time to any inquiry. Despite what I am sure is a heavy workload, he would answer any question within minutes or hours, always with a supportive tone- something invaluable for new parents facing a disaster. Even today- another holiday!- he responded to a text message I sent and had Demarkus reach out to answer a few questions. When we arrived home from traveling (a 6+ hour flight with a very cranky infant) a few days ago, we weren't sure what to expect. Would our home be in shambles? Would things be broken? What were we walking into? Thankfully, there were no surprises. If anything, we were pleasantly surprised. Everything was exactly as Demarkus had described. In fact, I don't think he gave himself enough credit for the effort and care he put into remediating the damage caused by the flood. Protective flooring had been put down perfectly, isolation chambers were neatly hung, drywall had been carefully and meticulously cut (good luck finding a jagged edge or rough cut anywhere), and everything had clearly been sanitized. Nothing had been done haphazardly. You could tell that the person that did this work did it with pride. Demarkus and his teammate (whose name I cannot recall) had done an outstanding job. Ever since our original project manager Adam went out on medical leave it has been impossible moving forward with our repairs. (It had been over a month with no contact before I reached out and found out he was on leave) They told me that my new project manager would be mike and he'd reach out to me the following Monday. Shocker, he never did. So I called my insurance agent. They reached out and received nothing back. We've had part of our flooring ripped up for months. Myself and our insurance company have had trouble receiving any sort of communication back from this company. Save yourself the stress and choose someone else for your repairs. Let me start by saying I would recommend them without any hesitation. The Regional Reconstruction Manager, Mike Massa is awesome. His prompt followup on estimates, assigning project teams, answering questions, meeting our schedules, and having a team on assigned dates was exceptional. I also was referred to Lawton Construction for an Insurance repair. Our house is in Truckee and we had damage from December 2021 storms. Our project required urgent work and repairs, during a time of year up here with the coldest month of the year, icey roads, 8+ ft of snow around property. It was a non issue for Lawton Construction to service us and repair the property. Lawton is a professional and organized company. Professional prepared quotes, docusign for contracts, change orders. Never, ever even consider these guys. They will do the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM and you will have to ask repeatedly for them to actually finish a job as specified. I am not sure who is to blame as they seem to be a sprawling company with many layers of "support". If you are slum lord looking for a cheap shortcut instead of actual maintenance then these guys might be right for you. But if you are a homeowner who cares about the appearance of your home you are WAY better off doing any work yourself with your buddies, it'll be cheaper, come out looking better and you'll finish faster too. read more

Could have killed me! My rental home suffered a roof leak that came through the ceiling of the home. I reported it to my landlord who then contacted her homeowners insurance. They subcontract with Lawton Construction who came out to assess the leak. The two men who came completely covered the HVAC system located on the roof with plastic wrap. For the next several days the home became colder and colder and I was smelling propane intermittently. I suffered from severe headaches daily not understanding why. I realized that despite the thermostat saying the heater was working I was getting no heat. I turned the system off and reported it to my landlord. The company came out that day and reported back to the homeowner that the system was working and there was no problem and no smell. I continued to get no heat and smell propane, so I continued the conversation with my landlord about the concern. Another 2 days went by and her insurance company sent out a HVAC technician. It tuns out that the HVAC systems heating component runs off a propane ignition system. When they placed plastic wrap around the ignition part they cut off the flame and air supply. So for a week I ran the thermostat, and the HVAC pushed cold air and propane through my home causing me to feel ill. This was during the month of February as well, so my home was below 60 degrees during this time. I am extremely upset, the company risked my health and safety. Not only could it have possibly caused an explosion if I had lit something, but high levels off inhaled propane can cause asphyxiation and even death. This company practiced extreme negligence and had no right to alter a mechanism they were not trained to work on. I only thank God I am the only one living in the home and that no children had to suffer through the week as I did. read more

As with any major construction project, little things will arise....although our project is complete and Lawton is paid in full. They have given me their full attention and have made sure that my concerns( as minute as they may be ) are taken care of. As much as I will be very happy to have everything done...I think I will miss the crew as they are all very sweet and helpful. You don't know how important all this is until you loose everything. I can say 100% if I had it to do over I would never consider another contractor.
