This paved trail has restrooms, a playground, a basketball court, and a picnic area.

William Whitfield Parks was founded in 1978, and has over 13 acres of land. It underwent a $200,000…read morerenovation in 2003. It has three baseball diamonds, a batting cage, a playground, and a football/multipurpose field. It also is nestled up against a creek. It also is the home to the trailhead for the Seven Mile Creek Greenway. We went about half a mile down the greenway, and were discouraged and turned around. Between the untamed brush, cell phone towers, and attractive views of the road, it wasn't terribly inspiring. That's not to discount the entire trail, as I'm sure there are great spots in the other six and a half miles. I would be remiss if I didn't mention William Drew Whitfield (1931-1976), who lived on Woodett Road. Although professionally an engineer for Honeywell, the last fifteen years of his life were dedicated to volunteering for youth sports, notably the Volunteer Dixie Youth Baseball League and the Boy Scouts. This park was the first park built in this area, and it's emphasis on baseball seems a fitting tribute to the memory of the park's namesake.

Situated on Morrow Road and running parralel to Briley Parkway, West Park is a smaller park featuring two large fields, one in a baseball diamond and the other a large multi-purpose fields, a community center, covered patio/picnic area with restrooms, playgrounds and a 1.1 mile walking trail, the Richland Creek Greenway, that runs alongside the creek and essentially creates a circle around the park. I popped by the walking/jogging trail, which at 1.1 miles takes you around the full park including by the water treatment facility. The trail does get a bit disconnected near the water treatment facility where you have to cross the road and either utilize the sidewalk or the rock path to reconnect and complete the full circle. Parking is in two separate lots that do not connect. The one behind the softball/baseball field is a tad smaller than the other and it fills up rather quickly. The park was well taken care, in good repair and a good spot for getting outdoors for a walk, run or game of some sorts. The location alongside the water facility is a bit odd, but it adds a bit of character. Overall, solid park!

This park also has one of those circuit exercise sections- the second one I've seen in a Metro Park, and I love it. I'm sure it's busy during the school year, so go enjoy it before the school year starts; it was dead empty upon our arrival on a gorgeous Saturday.

Harpeth Knoll Park... exists. It has the same bright colored, plasticy playground equipment Metro…read moreadded to most of its playgrounds in 2005. But that's about it. The land itself was purchased by the Metro Board of Education in the 1960s. They tried to sell it in 1976, but couldn't find a buyer. However, it was at this same time, in the 1970s and 1980s, that the neighborhood began to really develop. This part of Nashville isn't even on maps until the 1960s. The name of the park derives from the fact that it is, in fact, a grassy knoll. There's a small playground, a beautiful art installation bench commemorating the 2010 flood, and a very depressing looking baseball area. It's definitely not big enough for Little League or anything regulation. But this park exists in 10 acres, approximately 80% of which is just a field of grass, unencumbered by shade. We walked about half a mile around the perimeter, and enjoyed the sunshine. There was little to no paved section, so our walk was in the grass.

3.5 You know what I…read morelike about parks? They're peaceful. They're a place of refuge from the chaos of traffic, the noise of the city center and the confusion of the world. In times like these, we could all use some peace. Take some time to take a walk and reconnect with nature. Leave the cell phone at home, chart a course and remember what it was like to walk on green grass -- barefoot, even. It's important. Harpeth Knoll isn't my favorite park of the metro system but it has its charms. First of which (for me) was the drive out to it from the east side of town. Nashville's a pretty green city but the southwestern edge of the metro takes things to a whole 'nother level. HK is a small(er) park in the middle of an old(er) neighborhood and stuck between the past and present. The overgrown baseball diamond and boundary of mature evergreens tell the tale of an older park. The new playground, park benches and art piece seating, however, imply that some new life and attention's been given to this old girl. What I think is the standout feature of the park, though, are the views. The spaces are wide and open and the mature trees dot the perimeter of the space, not the center. That means, in addition to being a perfect set up for kick ball, if you stand in the middle of the park, you can look out at gorgeous green hills (or, 'mountains' as little kids may call them). Harpeth Knoll isn't a destination park. It's a neighborhood/local focal point, perfect for letting the kids burn off some steam, reading a book as the sun massages your shoulders and walking barefoot in the green grass as you look out at new hills to climb. On days like today, any of those are good reasons to visit. It shouldn't, though, take days like today to do so.

3.5 This is a hard…read morepark to review. Please don't allow the star rating to deter you from coming here, if you have reason to do so. I think my issue lies in the difference between my reasons for going to parks and the reason why Una Park exists... if such a thing makes sense. You don't come here by accident. By both location and function, there are only specific reasons to venture here. I have no idea what neighborhood this is. I want to say the park is outside of Nashville proper, belonging to the borg of greater Davidson County. I suppose that, in time, realtors will give it a snazzy name but for now, I'm lost if there is one. It's off Murfreesboro Pike past the airport heading towards Bell Road. Does that help? In any event, once you cross over Old M-boro Road and drive deeper into a residential area, you'll find it. This is a newer construction and obvious use of taxpayer funds. This was county land that locals, I assume, used to hike and/or ignore to their heart's content. Now, Una Park is a very impressive athletic destination. Large hills give way to sweeping sky views and multiple fields for all sorts of sporting interests. I noted 2-3 large baseball fields, a football field, a soccer field (that could be used for football), decent parking facilities (though not enough for all the different fields), concession stands, a pavilion, a small (new) playground, and a skate park. With the abundance of flood lights and team banners, Una Park is, obviously, ground zero for local sports teams and once spring hits, I'm sure it will be packed with families cheering on their young athletes. So, if you fall into this specific demo, Una Park is a 5-star park without a doubt. For the rest of us, however, Una Park isn't quite as welcoming. I like to come to parks to engage with green spaces, look at mature trees and flowers and get lost in my thoughts for a bit. Una Park doesn't offer much of any of this. This is a park of (local) utility rather than design. This isn't a 'park' in the sense of Radnor or Shelby. You don't come here to get away from city madness or take pictures. You come here to root on your athlete-scholar. That's fine and well but it's a bit too specific for my needs/interests at this time. If this is your bag, however, I'm sure you;ll love it. For what it is, it's very well done.

Una was originally a small village seated on the outskirts of Antioch, named as such back in 1882…read more As you drive through the neighborhood, you'll notice a lot of things in monikered "Una". The park itself was softly established in the 1960s, without much fanfare. Itself not far from the city of Murfreesboro, the park was home to sporting events between Nashville and Murfreesboro in the 1970's, 1980's, and 1990's. Metro Nashville pumped some money into the park in 2007, re-establishing the park at the time. It currently has a playground, baseball field, football field, and skate park over 24 acres. It has paved pathways between and around the various fields, and it took us about half an hour to walk about .8mile around the park.
