WOW - it was the most incredible workout I've ever had! And it was so much fun! I haven't felt motivated to workout in months (and have never boxed before), but I couldn't wait to come back here as soon as I left. The community here is also wonderful. There are coaches here who actually teach and inspire you to get better at your form and improve upon your weaknesses. Yes, modifications are possible and they will scale the workouts for you if you have an injury, or you're learning a new skill, but as an athlete, you're encouraged to push yourself a little harder if you can. And you read that right, I said athlete. When I walked into this facility nearly two years ago, it was mainly due to a challenge set by a group of mom friends who wanted to lose fifteen pounds. Losing weight wasn't my ultimate goal. I just wanted to get stronger and lift things easily into old age. I was always intimidated by CrossFit, having only heard about how intense the workouts were and how people got badly injured. The idea of sweating with other people grossed me out, too. You'd be amazed what a little peer pressure from a group of moms will do for you, though! The first week was grueling and my body felt like I had been run over by a semi-truck. A friend who had been doing CrossFit for years told me to stick with it, and to take a rest day every three days or so. So bit by bit, with encouragement from total strangers who later became good friends and coaches who patiently taught me some skills, I stuck with it. Well fast forward to about a year into my fitness journey and Covid-19 struck the entire world. Winning Edge closed its doors early, way before the quarantine lockdown was enforced in LA County. This didn't stop us from working out together as a group, however. Management allowed us to take gym equipment home on a first-come, first-served basis, without charging any additional fees. This enabled us to continue working out from home via Zoom, which was adopted early on by our coaches. Instead of gaining weight during Covid, I actually got fitter. We even had fitness challenges and Zoom happy hours to keep us feeling inspired and connected. Winning Edge continued to make things better when we were finally allowed to get back to the gym but, surprise, we had to work out outdoors. We had an amazing canopy set up and an outdoor rig. A reservation system was put in place so we could limit the number of people coming and going. When it got too hot indoors, the powers-that-be had enormous industrial-sized fans installed. Basically, the members are spoiled at this gym. I mean, I do remember a time when we had towels for our use, but with Covid-19 that never made a comeback and understandably so! I didn't mean to write an entire essay on my love for all things Winning Edge, but what it comes down to is the people that make up this place. When you walk into this gym, know that you will become part of a community that celebrates the first and last person finishing a workout. You face the grueling workout together and enjoy the reward together. It's even ok to sweat next to these peeps. Just bring your own towel.

After having two kids, it had been a long time since I'd consistently worked out, and I was struggling to get back into a routine. I knew I needed something different from the typical gym experience. One thing I really love is that this is not a traditional group workout, which I had tried before and realized just wasn't for me. Yes, you're working out alongside other people, but you have your own station, and the workouts are customized based on where you are physically and your personal goals. I enjoy the workouts, and Trainers Chris and Sam have been amazing. They're experienced, focus on proper form, and push you to challenge yourself in all the right ways -- which is really important to me. I recently hurt my back (not from working out) and had to cancel a couple of sessions. They reached out to check on me and discuss modifying my workouts to help me recover and get back to normal. That level of care and support is something you don't usually find at gyms or workout studios. Most importantly, I genuinely feel like I'm making progress. Some things that stood out to me were: *Solid programming that was fun and challenging. I got a solid workout every day, but it was also balanced so I didn't feel rundown. It also seems like the programming builds week to week with certain strength movements so it's not random workouts each day. *Really great coaching. The coaches explain the workouts thoroughly, warm up members effectively, give great cues and pay attention throughout the entire class, and scale the workouts to all abilities. No one is negative about what they can/can't do and you will not feel singled out at all for being a beginner and going light. *The community here is friendly, kind, and welcoming. They make an effort to plan events and bring their members together. *I personally really liked that they offered an area for the kids with a fully equipped tv with disney plus, hulu, etc as well as a couch, toys, table etc. It was awesome to bring my daughter with me too and she enjoyed herself. I tole her she needs to call someone to clean up before anyone slipped. She said "ok" but continued chatting. I told her again, "you don't want anyone slip there and....." she replied "ok" again and the male guest even added "it'll be taken care of" but no one comes. I took the photos of the floor & the desk. I guess, they don't give a hoot if someone slips and falls. Sad for the LA Fitness if they get sued. Well, 7 minutes later, the desk girl finally walked to the back, I assume to get someone. Finally 10 minutes later, someone came to mop the floor. PHEW!!!!

Thanks to my doctors and Mike helping me modify workouts, I was able to carry my boys until my 37 week elective c-section with no complications.
