We had dinner at Fade Street Social and I honestly can't say enough good things about this place. We had a bit of a situation during our meal -- my son, who has autism, started panicking because his iPad was about to die. Any parent in that situation knows how stressful that moment can be, and you could probably see the panic on my face too because I was trying to prevent a meltdown. Amit, the restaurant manager, went absolutely above and beyond. Despite how busy the night was, he kept going back and forth trying to find a solution for us. They ended up accommodating us at the bar, brought our dinner there, and even lifted the sofa to access a power outlet so my son could charge his iPad. The relief we all felt in that moment was everything. That level of care and compassion is rare and unforgettable. On top of that, the food was fantastic -- the pork chop, rosemary fries, and truffle flatbread were all hits. The cocktails were equally amazing. Their take on a New York Sour and the tiramisu martini were chef's kiss. Huge shoutout to our server, Sumit, who was super friendly and so kind to my son as well. The service from start to finish was warm, thoughtful, and genuinely exceptional. This was our first time at Fade Street Social, and it definitely won't be our last. The short version: 4.0 Food; 4.0 Ambiance; 3.0 Service On our first day in Dublin, we dropped in here in time to select from the lunch menu. We chose outdoor seating (of which there was plenty), under the umbrellas and by the brick building. The one-way street with the periodic passing of a car, bicycle, or pedestrian didn't bother us. Orders: Lady Olives (app), Bread (side), Spicy Italian Salamella Pizza, Vegetarian and Classic Italian Sandizza, and Cream of White Onion Soup (app). After the adult beverages, the Lady Olives reached our table next and surprised us with an earthy and sweet condiment of basil mayo that complimented the salty olives. Our main courses arrived and I shared the Spicy Italian Pizza and the fresh focaccia bread. The pizzas and flatbreads are wood-fired and the fermented dough provided a nice firm and chewy crust. The flavors of Salamella sausage and the fresh basil, garlic, and chili meshed well with the chewy cheese. The focaccia bread was indeed fresh! Light and airy yet with substance finished off with olive oil. I couldn't let the fresh whipped butter go to waste and each bite melted in my mouth. Everyone else enjoyed their food and adult beverages - Aperol Spritzes, Rockshore Irish Lager, and Prosecco. The service was friendly but slow. We had dinner in the main room - the food? EXCELLENT. The service? Awful. Took 2 hours from sit down to when our mains came. The waiter came by about 3mins before our food was delivered to let us know there was a "delay" in the kitchen. Thanks for the heads up I guess? There was no comp, no discounts, no I'm sorries. Pretty awful service all around. We did keep watching the kitchen knock over plates so assuming our food probably hit the floor and they had to remake it. The Scarlet Vetter says....the hubby and I decided to go to this restaurant for his 60th birthday while we were in Dublin. It had good reviews and we were able to get a reservation at a reasonable time with no notice in Open Table at 6:30 pm on a Saturday night. Located in a trendy area of Dublin with cozy winding streets and shop upon shop, the Uber ride there was a study in fascinating people watching. We arrived and were seated quickly and given menus. Within minutes a server came to inquire about water and we requested still water. Then we sat for a good 20 minutes. A different server came to take drink orders but was amenable to taking our food orders as well. I ordered a nice bottle of red for us, which came quickly after we finished ordering. My husband ordered the Creamed of Corn Soup for his appetizer and I ordered the "Natural Hummus" appetizer. I thought that was a odd name as is there unnatural hummus? The soup was luscious---velvety and smooth and fragrantly spiced. The Hummus was beautifully presented with a bright green oil drizzled on it with small slivers of beets and slivers of dried garlic. The bread served with it was deliciously chewy and yeasty. It was truly great! Mark ordered the Coal Roasted Rare Breed Pork Rib Eye for his entree and I ordered a grouping of appetizers for my entree to share with him. I ordered the Black Pudding (blood sausage), the Long Sliced Smoked Salmon and the Sliced Parma Ham and Fennel Salami appetizers. Mark was very disappointed in the Pork Rib Eye. It was a beautifully presented dish, and very plentiful, but the flavor was lacking and a bit off, despite it being heritage pork. I tried it myself, and also decided it was not impressive. However the Kale, Carrots and dreamy Mashed potatoes that come with this entree were totally flavorful and scrumptious! The smoked salmon appetizer was quite good. Fresh and thinly sliced, a hit of lemon juice really brought it home. It was served with Irish brown soda bread. I liked the brown soda bread but was surprised it was not served with butter, which I requested after it came and which arrived quickly. The specialty Creme Fraiche served with the salmon, while super hyped up on the menu with mouth watering ingredients was absolutely nothing special, and had a very odd consistency. The chef needs to go back to the drawing board on that one. The Parma Ham and Salami dish was beautifully presented. It was accompanied with thin slices of bread that had been brushed with oil and slid into the facility's wood fired oven to toast crisp. This dish was as delicious as it was well appointed. The homemade mustard that accompanied the dish could have been left in the kitchen as it did zero to enhance the flavor of the meats and also had an off taste. In all, a good dining experience, solid, but not special. The main dining room was quite loud and a table near us that had a laughing hyena at it. No joke, all the tables would stop eating and look about when she laughed, which was often, and became even more frequent as the meal wore on and she became plied with more alcohol. It was both funny and annoying at the very same time if you can imagine the incongruity of that. The service model was interesting in that it appears they employ a team approach, which had its benefits and detriments. The pros were you felt free to flag anyone down when you needed something and there are more persons to assure a good dining experience. The cons are a lack of accountability of any particular server for the experience of the table and some lost continuity in service. The team clearly communicated well, as when I asked one server for butter, a different server brought it within two minutes. Interestingly, not one single server asked us how our food was in their multiple stops to the table, just whether we needed anything. The diners next to us were raving about their steaks, romaine salad and a baked macaroni and cheese dish with short ribs, so I would give this place another try to escape the current three star category we awarded it, and try different entrees. read more

Went for lunch and was somewhat disappointed. Started very well with the pumpkin seed soup, it was delicious. Very creamy with excellent flavors. Had the sirloin steak as a main and that's where they let me down. They promote their wood fired grill but the steak was over cooked, something that should never happen at a grill. Really took away from the meal. Also, probably due to Covid, only had one person to wait and manage all the tables. He was killing himself to do well but they had too many tables for him to handle. No idea what it was, no info. He just decided for her. Food took over an hour. He was rude from beginning to end. No bussing of plates & glasses either, except wine advisor was good. 2. Food- we had six people. 2 had good halibut. 2 had terrible fish, overcooked & not tasty. 2 had ribeye, tough & bland & small. 3. Very expensive for terrible food & service. 4. Attended a work dinner with colleagues here. Food was good especially the steak was well done. I had the onion soup for starter which was really good and the lamb for mains. For dessert I had the passion fruit pavlova which by then I was too full to finish. The restaurant is quite big and can house big groups. restaurant, I was at first disappointed when we (party of 4) arrived precisely on time and were shown to our table. The restaurant was very busy and the noise level was high. We were seated and given ONE menu each, no drink menu, no alternative menu. 35 minutes later, I had to approach a server to try and at least get water. 10 minutes later we were given water and we asked for it and were given the wine menu. 10 minutes later our orders were taken we gave our wine preferences also. The wine came quite quickly in fairness. We waited another 5 mins to order. It was approaching 1 hour since we were seated. Our server arrived and took our order, and she was pleasant enough. Wine and soft drink arrived. Starters arrived later. The starters were impressive and tasted wonderful. A real 5* food experience. There was another long wait until the mains arrived. We ordered 2 Rib Eye steaks, 1 pork rib eye and 1 chicken dish, 2 broccoli sides, 2 bolied baby potatos sides. Both Rib Eye steaks were cooked perfectly but were tough. The pork rib eye was cooked ok but again tough, and the chicken fillet was small but cooked ok. The sides were quite nice, the broccoli was cooked really well crunchy with pine nuts. However there was few to little interactions with serving staff until the restaurant emptied out. Overall the four if us thought that whilst the food was generally excellent and the individual servers were pleasant enough, the overall experience was colored by the long wait and the lack of interaction with staff. We made a last minute reservation on OpenTable for 9:45pm on a Monday night. We arrived, and while it looked like they actually wanted to close, they let us come in and order food while they got the rest of the place closed down. So thank you for being accommodating and ensuring we got some delicious food. The kitchen got our stuff whipped up quickly. We ended up ordering four dishes without meat, and didn't miss it at all. We aren't even vegetarians, but if I was, this place definitely knew how to make some damn good veggie dishes. The squash flatbread, mushroom pasta, roasted vegetables were all so so good. Mistake #1 - I hosted a very high profile VIP there for dinner with his family on his trip from San Diego, and couldn't be more disappointed from start to finish with the nightmare experience from the gum chewing staff member "couldn't care less" when I told her who we were expecting on the night, to a litany of disappointing failures through to our Irish coffee's at the end which were left sitting at the bar to where we had to remind staff to fetch them before they went cold etc. etc. Of all the choice available in Dublin city, it was a shame we ended up here - mid week I might add, so no excuses about crowds, as it wasn't that busy. The starters we ordered were amazing (pumpkin hummus, bread and onion soup). Fiancé ordered and really liked his old fashioned. I ordered a martini but it never arrived, same with my mother's soda. Mains were average at best. I know I shouldn't expect the same level of beef, coming from Chicago. However, at nicer restaurant we had high hopes. The pork dish was fine. This place is a real mixed bag. They try very hard to be top shelf and they do an "Ok" job of it but to be honest the best part of the top shelf thing that they do is pricing!! The meat was well prepared and presented but was frankly not a great cut. Too much gristle and hard fat with not much flavor. The service and decor were very good but overall it was a pass for me. They also are home to quite possibly the worst Irish Coffee on the planet. No amount of sugar or cream could soften the bitterness. read more

First off, I hate leaving a bad review. Especially on a restaurant when times are tough with staffing and food prices.. but here is the reason for the 1 star.. We were travelling to Dublin from Canada for our 20 year wedding anniversary. I searched for days looking for the best restaurant to enjoy our special day. I emailed the restaurant asking if we could get a reservation as online it showed the restaurant was closed. To my amaze, I received an email back saying they were able to book us a table for dinner,Amazing. I explained it was our 20 year wedding anniversary and was excited to be coming to the restaurant. We arrived on time for our 8pm reservation. The fellow at the front desk greeted us with nothing more than one word and took us to our table. He looked miserable..We were seated by the front door and noticed that we were not in the main dining room. No big deal. As we waited for our server, I walked over to the main dining area to see if we could move tables and noticed it was all closed. Again not a big deal. As we sat waiting for our server a fellow came over and dropped of some menus. The menu didn't seem to be the one I was looking at online for the main ding area but still had some great options. After that we sat there and waited for about 15 mins.. no one came over to maybe give us some water or ask us if we would like to order some drinks. So I walked around and looked for our server.. no one would even look at me... so back to the table to wait another 15mins... at this point I was wondering why they even booked us a table. The couple beside us were looking at us and you could see the look at their faces.. we were all dressed up and sitting there like we were ghosts.. The guy at the front desk could see us and just sat there on his phone. So after total of 30 mins and we had enough. At this point we walked out and left. I was blown away and mad. I was the one who arranged this dinner and felt like a complete idiot.. So went back to our hotel and got changed to casual closes and went to a local pub and had an amazing Irish meal. So I guess it worked out.. lol . I have no idea why we were ignored. We are very chill people and not hard to please. We just wanted to order a bottle of wine and eat an amazing meal.. It would have been nice of the person from the restaurant that replied to my inquiry, would have told me that the man in restaurant was closed on Mondays. I understand sometimes staff are busy.. but this was brutal. An absolute waist of our "special evening". There are Michelin star restaurants throughout Dublin and we decided on this restaurant. It was ok....yes unfortunately that's all I really felt about our meals in Fade Street Social. This was my second visit to the restaurant part and I remembered it being better. I had brought my friends along as they had never been and I wished we had gone someplace else. The menu is pretty limited (pizzas, stew or a cut of meat) and they struggled to get excited about what was being offered. Most of the main dishes come out in bowls that wouldn't be out of place in an indian restaurant. They held just a lump of meat and all pretty much looked the same. The restaurant is not cheap and for the hype about this place I expect to be wowed visually or it should at least look like something I could not cook myself at home (the veg side is an exception and was beautiful). Ok it tasted good, but like a lot of people I want my food to look the part and I eat with my eyes. The waiters were super friendly but forgot to bring any drinks till after our starters were finished. So we were left without alcohol for half of our meal. The staff obviously thought they did a good job though as they added a €40 tip to the bill. I had the pizzas last time I was here and they were great, cocktails are amazing too but I think next time I will be trying the tapas bar. read more

Stay away from the restaurant and make sure your reservation is for the tapas bar. The tapas bar was booked out a week in advance, so we tried the "a la carte restaurant". The restaurant experience was a big disappointment. Menu options are limited and not as interesting as next door. The flatbreads are pretentious pizzas (it seems you pay extra to have the bones left in your poultry). For €24, the blossom fish comes with three nugget sized pieces and a scribbly bit of lettuce. To make a meal of it you need side orders of mash/colcannon and veg (another €10 to complete the dish). Worst of all, the bread and butter pudding is an open creme caramel sandwich, served cold. Criminal. There's no golden caramelised crusty bits of egg soaked bread. Never mind the luxurious brioche hinted by the menu. The sole redemption was the Black Forest, which was some whipped cream and chocolate shavings shy of a treat. Service is attentive, but the up-selling was heavy handed. Beware the pressure for table recycling. It's to be expected, but if the pressure to be gone within 1.5 hours irritates you, make sure to book a later sitting. I wanted to love the place. I've really enjoyed food at Mint and Rustic Stone, but this place smells like the awkward brainchild of an accountant making something of discarded crumbs from McGrath's dinner table. The big issue here is the huge difference between the tapas bar and the restaurant. We went in a fairly large group of 12 for a meal and booked for 8pm. The issues mostly arose due to the terrible attitude of the staff who were rude, snide and discourteous throughout. The group had 2 vegetarians and one coeliac, none of whom were catered for on the menu, and the waiter literally laughed at us when we suggested that we could order from the tapas menu to cater for the special dietary requirements. This resulted in myself and the other non meat eater getting a bit of flat bread with some cheese on it, and being charged full price - over €20! Later as we were only half way through our desert, the waiters started asking us to leave, which thhy did every 5 or so minutes from that point culminating in a woman walking over and very aggressively demanding we go and bringing our coats. If we had been informed at the time of booking that they would be looking for the table back it would be a lot more understandable, but we were not, Really disappointed as I had hear such good things, but discovered after these all referred to the tapas bar. And to top it off, portions were so small we all left hungry! read more

We ate in the restaurant part at the back, where we found the reception a lot warmer than what greeted us at the first door that leads through the tapas bar at the front. At a glance, I wouldn't be rushing back for tapas because the idea of eating on what look like rodeo seats doesn't appeal to me - even a Mc chain couldn't come up with a more get 'em out fast method of seating, it occurred to me as we were ushered through. Thankfully, after the initial heart-sink that comes from a meek welcome, it felt like a whole different world when we entered the restaurant. What followed was fairly friendly service from our waitress, certainly very efficient, kicked off by a helpful talk through the menu for first-timers (the pizza isn't called pizza, by the way, but it tastes damn good either way), and a good meal in cool surroundings. The place was buzzing though the waitress said it was one of the quieter nights. There's a smooth professional feel to the whole operation, and while I wouldn't describe the atmosphere as intimate or even particularly relaxing, it does feel reassuringly like you're being looked after by a well-oiled machine. The effect of the raised-platform cooking area is much like a large stage, upon which numerous intent-looking chefs enact their magic - and it did strike me as fitting for an owner who has a larger-than-life media presence and very much falls into the celebrity chef bracket. Why not follow it through to its logical conclusion and make the very act of cooking a performance? With your customers literally looking up to you. From what I've seen of that media presence - mostly Masterchef and some programme a few years before that when he seemed more styled in the traditional intense/neurotic/crazy-bananas chef moulding - I've always been impressed by Dylan McGrath's commitment to and passion for food. And even if what I'm about to say is entirely conjecture based on nothing but a penchant for pop psychology, I've detected a change in him in recent years - or the him that we see in the media anyway. I once thought that it was more about him than the food. Ego-grub. Now I think he knows that a great chef serves the food. This ethos comes through in the Fade Street Social restaurant, despite the sense of theatre inherent to the set up. And the fact that they give you a voucher for a half price cocktail in the bar upstairs at the end of the meal provides a nice touch. Too nice, in my case. The only let down was the bread and butter pudding - I know eggs form part of almost all great desserts but to actually confront that fact with your taste buds is a whole other matter. I'm usually a walk-over when it comes to desserts - it's sweet ergo I'm smiling - so this was a sad bum note for me. But I think you're in safe hands with these guys and gals, and will enjoy the grub even if your pocket is a fair whack lighter at the end. We took a piece of Chateaubriand to share (cutof beef refined for 40 days). This was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. They even cooked it differently because my girlfriend like it rare (medium for me). Vegetable were excellent as well. The waiter helped us to chose the best dish and vegetables with it. He was as well very useful for the wine (a portuguese for the Duoro valley... The wine not the waiter!!!) ;-) Highly recommended for a dinner with friends or just with your lover. Fade Street's star has risen in recent years, navigating a potentially disastrous association with an RTE reality show to become a lively part of the city, filled with busy pubs and restaurants. Dylan McGrath's bistro cum tapas bar, Fade Street Social offers punters the option to casually dine with smaller dishes or enjoy a more formal setting for dinner. Judging by the atmosphere on all floors at 7pm on a Monday evening, plenty of punters are availing of both. I arrive with a relatively large group of 9 and we are quickly seated upstairs for drinks. The vibe is relaxed and informal and the ladies in the party are enthused by the cocktail selection. Rather predictably, the Guinness is poor, however, and I am happy to be led to our table to order a bottle of the excellent Cotes du Rhone. The dining room is busy and reminds of a swanky Central London establishment, packed with a young, wealthy crowd. Which is fortunate, as the prices emblazoned across the various chalkboards are intimidating. Chateaubriand by the gram along with some stylish cuts of beef catch the eye, and it is easy to see how one could run up a hefty bill if feeling particularly peckish. The menu is appetizing with a wide selection of fish, meat and stews, all with a distinctly Irish hue. I opt for the Scallops to start, which arrive perched on an oyster shell and drowned in an egg butter mousse. The scallops are cooked extremely well, but the mousse is a little too over-powering for my taste. Some of the party opts for the carrot salad, which arrives looking fresh and delicious in a copper pot. One of the flatbread options is also shared and looks very appetizing, although a strange choice for traditional starter. The main course is extremely well received across the board and my Turbot special is a particular triumph. The fish is grilled very well and delivered resting on a tasty pea, broad bean and chervil cream. Sides of chips and green veg are nice, but unnecessary given the portion size and I am left lamenting the fact that our Ryan Gosling-alike waiter did not forewarn us that we had over-ordered. A lot of food is returned untouched. The chateaubriand is incredibly tender and perhaps one could make a case for it's eye-watering price tag. With little room for desert at the table, the strawberry pavlova, banoffi and apple pie are shared amongst the group and all look enticing and individual. I have had an elegant sufficiency at this stage and am content with a peppermint tea to aid the digestion. While the food at Dillon McGrath's restaurant may be as on par as all of his other culinary experiences, the service is so far substandard it's not worth the visit! I've been to Fade Street Social several times, once while sitting outside I was accosted by so many panhandlers that my dining experience could not be considered or even recalled. This evening I dined indoors and while it was not inflicted with panhandlers, I was inflicted with the continual hovering of service people who were simply there to rush me through my meal, and then tack onto my bill an inordinate service charge!!!! Not only was the service lackluster and rushed, it was inexperienced. Additionally, prior to being seated we witnessed one of the managers attempting to fix the Christmas lighting on the bizarre wall hangings while standing on the bench that future clients would be sitting on, no attempt to disinfect that area after he stood there was made - begging the question is this truly Covid friendly?! Adding to this cluster of indigestion was the fact that the ambience is such that one cannot hear a person sitting directly across the table from them due to the interior industrial lackluster aesthetic of of the restaurant which is so discombobulated with bits and pieces of driftwood and large silkscreen prints plastered onto brick walls that one does not know if they are in a factory, or should be ducking for cover at the side of a highway. For the money, it would be better to go anywhere or elsewhere - or just stay home. McGrath's Rustic Stone can offer a far more elegant dining experience (unless of course you're in the basement there - in which case then many of the same aesthetic observations hold true). While I admit that the dining doesn't necessarily hinge on the interior aesthetic when it's combined with poor service, and an inability to enjoy one's dinner guests it does beg the question why did I bother setting foot inside these doors?! read more

Arrive early. Head up to the rooftop bar and have glass of wine and a lite bite. Then enjoy yourself a fine dinner in a buzzin atmosphere. Our meal was fabulous and 'good value' as they say here. Definitely try the mushroom ravioli and the blackened cauliflower ... wow Wow WOW! Ordered the Salmon with the crab sauce but not as impressive as the sides. Had this booked for Christmas lunch with friends . Great busy buzz and friendly staff . Place is fab and you instantly feel a good vibe . Now it goes down hill . Lunch menu very limited and no prices on menu . Starters , pork belly , was best part of the meal really liked it . Mains was very rich and over salty . I felt everything was salted to much and rich , the sprouts , cauliflower and mash where over rich , bring them back to basic veg ! Desert very disappointing choc far to rich and disappointing ! I'm giving this four stars because the food is delicious however the service was certainly lacking last night! My husband had been to the tapas area and thought it would be the same menu when he made a reservation. He ended up getting the lamb stew and a side of the mushroom ravioli and I got the trout with a side of spuds and kale (which was like a mousse!) It was all very enjoyable. For dessert, I tried the sphere, which was basically just chocolate melted with more chocolate. Since in a chocoholic, I enjoyed it but the €11 price tag was a bit much. As I mentioned, the service was lacking. It started out promising with a lovely French waitress with whom I got to converse in French but once we placed our orders, it was like she forgot all about us. We then had someone else who just showed up randomly, didn't introduce themselves and didn't pay much attention to us either. It really soured our experience along with how utterly loud it got (the combination of hardwood floors and brick walls is apparently not ideal!). My boyfriend and I came here on St.Stephens Day (one of the only restaurants open) while I was on travel from LA. I had the lamb stew which was very flavorful and had a unique texture. However, the chunks of lamb in it were too dry. Not sure how they were prepared but otherwise it was a lovely dish. We also had the scallops to start which were tasty. The atmosphere was fun and upbeat. We were left waiting without menus for a little longer than we'd like and someone from the restaurant brought us complimentary champagne. We appreciated the good service :) I'd definitely return. read more
