Tucked away near the Loisdale-Newington intersection, the brewery is located in an industrial warehouse district at the end of a row of warehouses. The layout is open and very cool as they've designed it almost like a mock garage with roll-up doors for when the weather permits...They have corn hole, giant jenga, water pong and other fun activities that go hand in hand with downing a fresh pint. The staff is friendly, sarcastic, and most importantly, knowledgeable about their trade. Their beer is quite tasty, with decent kölsch and saison options, but their real stars are the red ales, IPAs and stouts. Prices are great for the quality of beer you are getting. The only real limitation to this place is they have nothing besides their brewery items to offer...VERY limited snacks and non-alcoholic options... but they do allow you to bring food in from outside vendors, so I wouldn't write them off entirely! read more

Fairwinds is one of the breweries closest to where I live. They are located in an industrial park on Newington Road. Their brewpub is austere but very neat and clean. There are windows in the brew pub that look into the brewing area that has several large stainless steel vats. They had about 10 different brews to select from that included a Kolsch, (hoppy) session, IPA, pale ale, dark ale, stout, and porter. They offer flights with a selection of 4 beers in 4 ounce glasses. They also sell single small and large glasses for consumption on the premises. I liked the Siren's Lure Session and the Blackened Seas cherry porter. They sell some snacks but do not serve food. They have notebooks with menus from nearby places that will deliver to the brewery. Occasionally a food truck sets up in their parking lot. Currently the only way to take away their beers is in growlers or kegs; they do not currently bottle or can their products. I recommend this brewery to those in the area and will likely return when I'm in the area. read more

Their current lineup features four flagship brews, all of which are solid, if not exemplary entrants into the craft brew landscape. Of singular note is the Running Light Red; in a world of overhopped beers, the malty overtones of the Red is a welcome and unique take. That said, if you're looking to get your hop on, the Howling Gale IPA is as potent as its name. Each selection is worth a taste. Fairwinds is doing it right; they've got a massive tasting room, and clearly have planned for brewing expansion. The staff took it in stride, maintained great attitudes and smiles, and recommended tasty brews. Here again trying new places near the office. I have found it a good place for a quick happy hour. While I am not a super beer fan this place is a good visit and great for drinks after work, it is really nice when they open the big doors and the weather is nice. I like to do the tasters of the different beers and will continue to go back. I am always curious how the beers change as the weather changes. We found this place by chance. A simple Google search and some spontaneity. Alicia and Jackie handled the bar and the floor by themselves and we're very accommodating. Really tasty beers with a great selection. We tried a flight and ended up getting two different beers because we liked all the beers in the flight (they call it a plank) and figured we couldn't go wrong with any choices. My favorite was the citrus IPA and my husband enjoyed the saisons. Seating is communal, but there seemed to be enough for the Friday night we visited. Food truck was great. They offer plenty of promotions and events like yoga and trivia. Bathrooms were clean. Short wait to snag a bartender. Only drawbacks would be lack of lower bench or booth type seating for those of us with toddlers ( I know they aren't the paying customers but still) and parking can get scarce in immediate area which isn't fun in the cold. read more

My husband's even here a few more times than I have, but the few times I've been here I've enjoyed it. It's very clean and relatively new. The second time I came here, my co-worker was at the bar trying to decide what to order, not being a regular beer drinker. A man started to give her the low down on every beer in great detail. I'm sure it was more than she needed to know to make a decision. About an hour later, that same man was making his way around the room and headed over to our table. Turns out, he's the owner! When he learned we were there to celebrate a co-worker's birthday, he wished her a happy birthday. Before long, he gave her a sampler of beers and a free tee shirt. He made friendly conversation with all of us, but also gave us space. Fair Winds doesn't serve food, but a food truck comes and serves delicious (and probably not so healthy) food! I crave it. Good variety, recommend to go with a flight to find what you want. I preferred the saison as it was sessionable and well put together, The IPA was decent and run-of-the-mill for the style (not a bad thing). The brewery itself is well put together with a large space with numerous tables for parents with kids, couples, groups as well as a U-shaped bar for additional seating options closer to the booze. There are games as well to keep you there longer and the brewery space has a number of windows looking into the actual operational part of the brewery, very nice. Tried their IPA when I was at Glory Days, so I went and visited last weekend. Kid friendly, great foodtrucks, and even better beer!

Beer is decent, and so is staff (not overly engaging though). Brewery is child friendly and has an assortment of games to keep them busy.

It was a busy Friday at work, so my coworker and I decided to go grab a beer (or 5) at @fairwindsbrew . We work on Belvoir, so it was a quick drive. We just happened to come on the afternoon of one of the women's gold cup games and it was pretty packed in there. Luckily the game had ended as soon as we got our flights and we were able to snag the end of a high table. I started with a flight (Homeport Stout, Broseidon blood orange saison, Pohick Bay Pilsner and the Quayside Kolsch). All of the beers were pretty tasty. I wasn't a big fan of the Pilsner, but that's why we get flights, right? That Broseidon was on point, though, so I went back for a pint after I finished my flight. There was indoor and outdoor seating available. It also looked like they allow you to have parties in the facility, which is a great idea. They do not serve food, which is pretty normal for a brewery, but they did have a food truck right at their front door, which is always convenient. Looking forward to going back to try some new brews soon! read more

Let me be the first to bring these reviews down to Earth. First off the decor leaves a lot to be desired. All that money spent and no attention to the details. The noise level was my biggest concern. Wow it's really noisy. The room itself doesn't really have much appeal. Secondly, the beer is middle of the road. Nothing that would encourage me to drive that far again. The IPA was most forgettable followed by the Red Ale and then the Stout. The Kolsch is the best of the bunch. Thirdly, the food truck prices scared me away so I didn't even try them. $24 for a platter of ribs is a little pricey concerning it's served in a parking lot. They may be very good but considering the location they also could be a lot cheaper. Last but not least, when are these brew guys going to stop charging so much for growlers. $15 if I have my own bottle. I know that's the norm nowadays but come on. $10 I would be very happy even $12 would encourage me to take home and share their beer. Not a sermon just some thoughts... read more
