This is an old hotel. It looks like it's been run through a few times. I was very skeptical when we pulled in. I am a Bonvoy member and stay at Marriott's throughout the country. This one is not typical of a Fairfield. We were staying 1 night on this trip. Parking lot is suspect. Inside looked a bit better. The breakfast area is ok. The chairs are old and worn. I did not eat the next morning. The elevator is pretty dirty and smells. My room was ok. It was clean. That's I guess the best I could hope. No USB-C or A plugs in room at all. Annoying. I could plug in my laptop and connect to the internet. However, it wouldn't let my iPhone connect. What's with that!? I thought I was without a hair dryer but it was in the closet upper shelf toward the back. I couldn't see it. But then found it. TV was small but adequate. Not many channel options. It is close to some decent food choices. The hotel is old and run down. I do have to say the staff was nice and it was clean. Except the elevator. But I'll pass. read more

Beware this hotel! They do not honor online reservations and will cancel them with no communication or warning. This is a very dirty and run down hotel. Other reviews cover it but there are issues with cleanliness, mold, air quality, the beds, visible disrepair on exterior building. The breakfast food was really low quality. The staff we met were helpful and nice, and resolved a serious mistake on the part of the hotel's general manager (who was absent when we checked in and unresponsive to calls earlier in the day). Marriott should seriously consider closing this hotel until they can renovate or find new management and then do serious changes to the hotel's cleanliness. Stay here only if you can't find another place for a reasonable price. read more

Marriott should be ashamed. We stay in Marriott properties at least 12x a year and i would say this is the worst i have ever stayed at. I can't believe Marriott allows this property to carry the Marriott name! It should be shut down and fully renovated. The pictures on Yelp are from the business owner so not accurate at all. The rooms are worn down and uncomfortable in all senses. 1) the elevator seems extremely unsafe; it shakes/rattles violently upon approaching 3rd floor; looks like a service elevator- dirty and in need of a new finish 2) the beds feel like they are 100-years old/lumpy & sagging in the middle 3) the ac unit(s) run on a minimum capacity never allowing the room to fully cool (we called down to switch rooms because the ac comes on for 10 seconds then shuts down for 8 minutes- we were told all units operate this way so no sense in moving us - it is so uncomfortable!!) 4) the bathroom - ugh. Corners have caked on dirt that haven't been cleaned in quite some time, peeling and stained wallpaper, picture frame is rusting, tub has permanent stains 5) went to open the window in the evening, hoping to cool the room- disgusting - mold & dirt in the tracks 6) outside/front of hotel - curb is cracking; there are large cracks all along the walls of the building ONLY positive, the staff were nice; but would strongly suggest staying elsewhere. They also increase prices during Notre Dame weekend games. read more

This is the absolute WORST service I have EVER experienced. Right as I walked in I went to the front desk to check in, and they were so disrespectful and rude. I booked a 2 nights stay and checked in online WITHIN the 24 hour window and my room was cancelled completely, it took a long time for them to refund me, and they would not help me find a new hotel to book at. Spent the night while enroute to Missouri. The entrance was under constructions, so it was bit hectic trying to get into the parking lot. The staff member that greeted me was welcoming and friendly, got my key and headed the room. The dining area was all closed due to covid-19, no breakfast, no gym etc. The room was clean and bed was comfortable. The hotel is surrounding by tons of fast food joints since all you can do right now is take-out/drive thru. read more

I booked a same-day reservation at Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott South Bend Mishawaka for my cross-country drive. Althought the website for this hotel says it's 24 hours, there was nobody at the front desk to greet me upon arrival, and the after-hours number listed on the front door went straight to voicemail when dialed. I waited 30 minutes in front of the property, as the entrance door was locked due to it being after hours, and I figured the employee might be on break, but nobody showed up. I attempted to call every number listed for the hotel during that time, but the hotel line rang and rang, and the after-hours number went straight to voicemail every time. I was unable to even get inside the lobby to wait for an employee to show up, and it was getting later and later into the night, so I was forced to give up and go to a different hotel nearby. Not until I was already showering at my new hotel did I receive a callback from the after-hours number, which I missed since I was in the shower, yet still went straight to voicemail when called back. Since I was unable to even get into the hotel, let alone check in, I attempted to request a refund. I was met with a response from the hotel saying that they have strict refund policies and they wouldn't be able to offer me a refund on my booking. I thought this was wild, as I wasn't even able to check in, and I had to continue my drive across the country, so I was forced to go elsewhere. This experience really opened my eyes and gave me a negative opinion of the Marriott brand. I wanted to share my unfortunate experience in hopes that it might lead to some changes that make things better for any future customers. read more

The front desk clerk was nice. I had just gotten into town early morning and needed to sleep right away. She found me a clean room and I was able to check in instantly. She was clearly understaffed, trying to run the desk, do laundry and keep check out smooth. They had run out of many items as they had a big team in town several days earlier. The hotel is starting to show its age but the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. It was the best price in the area and had a room available. read more

Watch out, reservations mean nothing to this hotel-they will bump you to their crappy "sister" hotel next door without any warning. I showed up after a long drive, about 10pm, hauled my stuff to the front desk to be told with zero sympathy that they had oversold. The rooms were clean and lobby was nice. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. We were there for two nights and everyone we encountered was great, The pool was closed and there was no bathroom available outside your room. Stopped overnight on our travels based on reviews and price. Not a great choice. Room was clean enough. Thin towels and sheets. Asked for foam pillows due to allergies but front desk clerk said they had none. Little black ants in bathroom. Loud air conditioner fan kept us up most of the night. Cold water in the morning shower. Breakfast attendant was lovely but scarcity of choices. People at the table next to us commented on scarcity as they had been staying there all week and noticed the decline. There are far better choices in the area. read more

Clean place friendly helpful staff exactly what you would expect. Typical free breakfast in the morning. If you are a Costco member close by Next Door actually is a Costco where you can get really inexpensive gas. There are also some nearby good restaurants a nice place not too far off of I-80. Probably difficult to stay there on a weekend during the college season with parents visiting over Notre Dame summer is okay. read more

This Fairfield Inn and Suites is amazing because of the great staff, amazing amenities, and a nice hot breakfast. These things and the friendliness of the staff made for the 5 star rating. The rooms and hotel need a style update as the lobby furniture is worn and the cleanliness (aka dusting and details of room cleaning) needs a little bit of work. Again the staff made up for any cleanliness downfalls. The corporate artwork in all of the Fairfield Inn and Suites is bound to drive any detail oriented person bonkers with the typo making the alphabet 27 letters long. But the shining star in my entire stay was the Front Desk Supervisor Layne Galloway. He is the bees knees, the cats pajamas and even then some. His kind personality, amazing restaurant recommendation and his bubbly upbeat personality not just to me but to everyone who stepped foot on the property was what will bring me back here again. We were driving through the area and booked a room at another hotel, but when we arrived they could not find our reservation and we were forced to find another place to stay. Luckily, we found the Fairfield Inn and Suites. The overnight staff was extremely friendly and had sympathy for our situation. The rooms were clean and nice. The next morning, we enjoyed the free breakfast. The indoor pool and gym looked nice as well. I also liked that the front desk staff offered us water when we checked in and out. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area. read more

Great service combined with poor noise insulation. Also, I'm pretty sure someone had previously smoked in the bathroom because our bathroom had faint cigarette smoke odor. We asked for late checkout and our keycard still worked until the checkout time and room service didn't stop by early to wake us up. That sounds obvious and basic, but we've been staying in hotels for the past week and a half on a road-trip, usually mid-grade chains where you pay $100-$150/night, and this is literally the only hotel that's done late checkout correctly. The big downside of this room is that we got woken up by noise multiple times. Even though we were at the end of the hall, almost as far away from the elevator as is possible, we could still hear the elevator ding from inside our room with earplugs on! We also heard people moving around in rooms on both sides of us as well as in the hallway. The only hotel we've stayed in that was as noisy was a low-end $50/night motel. I probably wouldn't come back here because we're light sleepers, but the hotel was recently remodeled and is quite nice, and the service is great! If you're not a light sleeper, this is a great hotel. read more

We are a hockey team that came from 5 hours away and selected this hotel as one of the options to stay in through the tournament company. Selection of our choices is based on many aspects but mainly due to amenities listed such as a pool, conference rooms, and continental breakfast so that our group of 17 .... 11-12 year old players and siblings have something to do while at the hotel. It was unfortunate to find out there would not be a conference area to allow the team to have an area to hang out/eat/talk in however we knew we could make it work as we have in the past. We arrived and the pool was closed with no ETA of reopening, and the following basic things were unavailable for us: Soap, Kleenex, Toilet Paper, Housekeeping, and adequate towels per room. Seems from the one and only other review on here that is an ongoing problem along with being understaffed - could it be due to the terrible management and hostile environment making this a less than desirable location to work? Have been traveling in and out of South Bend area.... great deal and the most recent trip about six months visited the Embassy suites near Notre Dame.... which is ultra modern albeit when you go in the door it's big cold place n.... not a place you feel at home or a place you can be comfortable or really feel welcome For many years have visited in the Fairfield Inn which is probably not ultra slick but nonetheless......We feel very welcome and comfortable in their staff is really a group of great people they make you feel at home...m there is one lady "Morgan' who has a million dollar smile and we love seeing it plus they are hotel pros... one happy and friendly staff unequalled in our travels. The old travel industry had an expression: Orchid and / or Onion letters hopefully to a Corporate CEO who has empathy ....This is an "orchid". for Fairfield Notre Dame for their awesome service and the staff thoughtfulness to this mature gent whenever we stay there Had managed several organizations before becoming a reluctant hotelier in Hawaii. Client service is always a tough challenge; in America it has become non existent commodity in many businesses. Repeat, this is an orchid letter! A well deserved one. Stayed here using points, everyone was friendly and service focused. Rooms are recently remodeled and functional. We had a Platinum Elite upgraded room which included a couch and some extra features. The room had fridge and microwave, coffee maker. Location was very good, near a couple of malls and near stores. Made it a good rallying point for a weekend in South Bend. Breakfast was good for Fairfield, but food ran out late in the morning, so get there early. This hotel sells out a lot, so I would recommend booking early. read more

And you can't beat the free hot breakfast, waffles and eggs are a great way to start my day! I asked for some recommendations for dinner and they not only recommended some great places to eat but provided me with a map to get to all of those restaurants. read more

I've stayed here 3 times to visit my daughter who attends Notre Dame. Rooms are clean & staff is so nice! Breakfast is good too and they have hot fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in the evening. I love that the hotel is minutes from Costco, Sams Club, Target, Walmart and the mall and just 15 mins. From campus. If your moving a student in, no need to bring anything, this town has everything you need and the hotel staff is very helpful and just the nicest people you will come across. My only complaint is the washer and dryer, the hotel guests next door always seem to be using it, so you may have to wait. read more

Although the location is situated next to Notre Dame is wonderful, the service to its customers is less than lackluster. Still waiting for the room to be cleaned at 3:30 pm. We needed to go to the front desk to ask for the room to be cleaned multiple times. NO MANAGER ON DUTY ON A SATURDAY!! Wow, what a value for $89, and on July 4th nonetheless! The check in was easy and they had some cookies for the guests. The hotel was very clean and neat, and so was my room. The shower was very nice and clean as well, with a curved rod for more space and a big sink countertop. The carpet was so clean, it didn't have a speck on it. The breakfast was great- sausages, eggs (albeit fake ones, but still), muffins, various fresh fruit (huge chunks of amazing fresh pineapples too, not some flimsy pieces), yogurts (Chobani and Activia, great brands), and other items. And the best part- it was all complimentary! The pool was awesome- very clean and easily accessible. There is a huge hot tub in the corner, almost a size of a mini pool! There were no people in the pool at the time, so I had a blast. Overall, a great hotel and I was really impressed. I think the guest services could be a little more engaging (I work at a hotel which has really high customer service standards), but no issues. Definitely a great place to stay! read more

Every year our travel baseball team goes out of state for a Memorial Day weekend tournament, and this was by far the best hotel that we have stayed at for those tournaments! The rooms, and commons area are updated and clean. The staff was incredibly accommodating to our needs. We were allowed to eat and hang out in the common area downstairs, as well as being allowed to congregate in the rear of the hotel with our lawn chair while the kids swam in the pool. On Saturday night when we were coming in from dinner after a couple games the night shift clerks asked us what time we played in the morning, and we told her that we have to be up by 6 AM, and out by 7 AM to make it to the field, she took it upon herself to ensure that the breakfast was ready an hour earlier than usual so that we could eat before we headed to the games for the day. We are platinum members and we asked for an upgrade, she was not aware we where platinum and then she stated oh yes you are and we will upgrade you. She put us in a king size room. We normally get upgraded to a suite, not here! Place was pretty empty too. read more

We switched hotels at the last minute and stayed here, what a great decision. Staff is AWESOME, rooms were clean, lobby was very comfortable and was great for watching a game and talking with friends. Next time we are in the area we no longer have to search for a place to stay. read more
