I had a really nice stay at Aloft South Bend. The hotel has a modern, upbeat vibe and the rooms were clean, & comfortable. The location is also a huge plus--super convenient for getting around South Bend. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout my stay, which always makes a difference. Check-in was smooth, and any questions I had were handled quickly. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that there were a few small things that could be improved (nothing major, just little details that would make the experience perfect)... concession & food options & prices. Room - 9/10 large, modern, clean, no issues with temperature, had a small mini refrigerator but no microwave, decent view Bed - 9/10 very comfortable, good pillows Bathroom - 9/10 large counter, decent lighting Shower - 8/10 hot water, good water pressure Entertainment - 10/10 - tvs have Netflix Parking - 10/10 it happened to be free the night I stayed here. Parking garage is inside the hotel and has elevators that go directly to the room floors which was convenient. Location - 10/10 downtown, close to restaurants, close to airport. We stayed here for a little staycation when I was visiting my hometown! Great location in the heart of south bend right next to my favorite bar there - Fiddler's Hearth. This is reason enough to stay there! Rooms were good sized and The pool area has a beautiful view of the city and you can even see Notre Dame! But the area itself needs updating. Paint was chipping and just felt old. The elevators were a hold your breath and see experience. The highlight was all the board games and pool table in the lobby. My nieces and nephews had the best time playing! Overall this hotel needs some attention! read more

I'll get the administrative stuff out the way: clean lobby & rooms, super friendly staff, decent little pool, easy parking garage, close walk to the "downtown" amenities, no free breakfast. Moving on to the real review: if you're a family subjected to these highway robbery Stay & Play hockey tournaments, this place blows the doors off the competition. Typically you get the Fun Squasher's Edict about "no shiny, 9pm curfew, pool closed." NOT here. To start: we stayed December 2024 and there was a section of the lobby being fully renovated. The managers placed the work on hold for our weekend & dedicated the shell of a construction site as a full contact Romper Room for our boys! Sure it was a risky endeavor due to "liability," but the management knew we were hockey families & that our kids grow up playing the most physically grueling sport in all of Youthdom. The kids had an absolute BLAST! Next was the pool: The hours posted a closing time of 9PM. At 10:30PM, the staff dropped off a fresh stack of towels & went on their merry way without batting an eye. Our boys swam so much they nearly overslept their games. As traveling hockey families, you know the games are for the parents & the hotel is for the kids. Aloft CRUSHED our expectations. Nice hotel in South Bend. Decor was interesting in the rooms. The sheets and bed were comfortable enough. The room had wonderful views of the city. There is a bar and market downstairs which is convenient. Free garage parking for guests. Room was clean but housecleaning did come to the room after our first night. The shaker floor was incredibly slippery. They have a good selection of shampoo and all that in the shower. The elevators are shaky and there's too many people for the number of elevators. The gym had an ok selection of equipment. The screen on my elliptical didn't work. Overall loved the view and closeness to downtown. It's far from the Notre Dame campus. read more

Edited: Front desk was very accommodating and switched our room so I added some stars. But bathroom issue is real as well as the 17th floor to avoid. The bathroom barn door offers you no sound, smell privacy. And then you'll be treated to the sound of a freight elevator every 10 seconds on the 17th floor as you try to sleep. read more

Plus its next to Fidlers which is a great place to grab some Irish food. The hotel bar is a perfect spot for a night cap. Loads of parking and a great workout room. There is no free breakfast which was disappointing in a mid to low level hotel chain. The bed frame sticks out so that I hit my shin every time I tried to navigate the small room. It was so frustrating. And the bathroom has a sliding barn style door giving you no privacy. And the water from the shower splattered and sprayed all over the floor due to the poor constructed or poor designers choice of a sliding shower door. Again another frustrating detail. read more

Hubby is here on business, so work is paying and set this up. Overall, a nice place, downtown, clean, and bright. Everyone seems nice and the parking is great in the garage. Pros: the fitness center. One if the biggest, cleanest, and best machines I've seen anywhere. I've not been to the pool yet, but hubby said it's nice. The cleanliness overall is great! Great mattress!! The washer and dryer in the laundry room (only one washer and one dryer for 17 floors???) has the Pay Range app so one needn't lug coins all over. Cons: thin walls....last trip hubby was a few doors from elevator and said you can hear everything. I could hear a woman on the other side of our wall speaking loudly on her phone. Some other guy was yelling profanity last night. It sounded like below us. A microwave in the room would be handy instead of 1 shared microwave for 17 floors of people in the lobby. We had a great short and sweet visit here for an overnight trip to South Bend if you want to go. This new hotel is located in the heart of downtown South Bend and features modern lobby with well-designed rooms. I really enjoyed the layout of our king-size room and it's hard to beat the walk ability to downtown South Bend sites. We were able to find free overnight street parking directly in front of the hotel since we were staying on a weeknight. The gentleman working at the front counter was very friendly and prompt in getting us our room. They offered snacks and a variety of food items that you could purchase down in the hotel lobby. I'm not quite sure when the hotel was added to downtown South Bend but I imagine it was a greatly welcomed addition given the fresh look and overall reputation of aloft hotels. We'd definitely stay here again. read more

An almost Perfect Stay! Read all the reviews on this hotel and you will most of them are favourable for this hotel. Most of them are right, this is a great hotel, with great amenities, great decor, great staff, great gym, good hotel parking etc, etc, etc. My review is more of the same. I had a great experience when I decided to stay at this hotel. The parking was easy, taking my bags to check in was easy, (although a digital checkin and key would be great) I was greeted warmly, given a great corner room on a high floor and a great dinner recommendation. All in all it was a great stay. The only issue I had was not something the hotel had any control over. I stayed at the hotel on a very cold, bitter and windy night in a corner room. It took forever for my room to warm up, but aside from that everything else was perfect. The price was a great value for the level of hotel, and the location was great. read more

My little girl and I had a planned trip to go to the Billy Joel concert in South bend at Notre Dame stadium every single place there was booked. I called south a loft and spoke to the front desk receptionist and she told me the same thing but told me to email her manager and see if she could do anything for me. I emailed and within the day to my surprise she emailed me back and was able to help!!!! The staff was amazing went above and beyond for me and my little girl! It was a big beautiful room with and amazing view! The hotel itself was super clean, and would great us in and out. Sweet town! Sweet people! GREAT HOTEL! Ridiculously amazing customer service! A great addition to DTSB! I Live out of state, came home, and found this new gem! When we walked in the door we were cordially greeted by the host, Josh. He was perfectly polite and professional. When asked, he told us the history of the building and hotel. He invited us to enjoy the lounge area and let us know what else he could do for us. Move to the XYZ lounge. Terri at the bar was great. He quickly and politely got my glass of wine. Next we played billiards for several rounds and both Terri the bartender and Jamie the chef cheered me on when they walked though (I was trying to beat my brother). After winning and losing a few games we ordered the beer cheese pretzel bites. Again, Terri was prompt and polite and quickly got us our order and a wine refill. When we went out for the evening, all three of the staff wished us goodnight. It was a wonderful experience and I will recommended this hotel/lounge to anyone looking for a place to stay or locals looking for a great lounge. read more

Peter D arranged to pay for Room 1607 for me in advance from May 9 to May 14. I was doing work for him. On May 9, I gave the heavyset white guy at the front desk my MasterCard for incidentals. It was very clear that the rest of the room was taken care of. The stay was absolutely fine. I actually watched Peter D pull out his credit card and pay again on May 13th in the afternoon so that I could have an extra time to check out past noon on May 15. When I was leaving about 5 pm on May 15th, I asked if there were any charges to my card. Alvin told me there were not. About an hour later as I was still driving home, I noticed a $67 charge. I called and was told it was for parking. I had never been told that there was a parking charge in their garage. In fact, 90% of the time I entered and exited, the gates were UP and I didn't have to waive my card on the sensor. But I accepted that due to the convenience. On Tuesday, when I was checking my account, I saw a $730 charge from Aloft. I called them immediately to dispute the $730 erroneous billing on my card. I left a message for their bookkeeping/accounting lady, whose voicemail said she was unavailable. I called back and talked to Alvin at the front desk. He assured me it would be taken care of immediately. I advised Mr. D about the situation and after 48 hours without a correction, he went to Aloft and paid for it AGAIN on Thursday, May 20th. He was given a receipt. On the afternoon of May 21, when I noticed that the charge was still there, I called the hotel again and left another message for the lady in bookkeeping/accounting. Her voicemail said she was still unavailable. I guess she is the only one in the entire Marriott system that can fix a theft of your credit card account. I called and talked to AJ Sime. He sent me an email with a "receipt.". After I received it, I called AJ again because it looked like the credit was given to my client and not to me. As of 9:52 am on May 22nd my $730 is still missing. I can't pay bills that are do with that card. Aloft has knowingly and intentionally continued to exert unauthorized control over my funds. As a licensed innkeeper in the state of Indiana, they have a fiduciary and legal responsibility to not steal $730 from guest's credit cards. They have egregiously violated those responsibilities. read more

This is a hard review to give because our time there started off very poorly. We showed up after making an online reservation to find that the room wasn't ready. Alvin, the front receptionist, was amazing and kind and super apologetic but said that he, himself, would have to go clean the room. We stored our luggage in the luggage room and went to dinner. We then completed the registration process and were given our room number and keys. When we arrived in our room, we realized it was the wrong one. We called down to the desk and were told they would be right up with the proper key. 20 minutes later, we called again and Alvin saved the day again and came running down the hall with our keys to the right room. Alvin gave my husband and me a free drink at the bar and our children free snacks, as well as free breakfast in the morning. Super great! The hotel was nice and the rooms were spacious. We were happy to find Netflix was on the tv. The bathrooms were comfortable and we were pleased when they allowed for late check out. The pool was nice and clean and warm! Alvin was amazing. He was friendly, energetic, kind, and great. We are thankful that despite all that started off rough, his kindness made up for it. read more

This was an excellent hotel to stay in while in South Bend! There aren't many options, but this new hotel doesn't rest on its laurels (or...a captive audience). It is still of a very high standard! The hotel is immaculate and well designed. It is relatively no-frills, but it doesn't feel cheap or lacking in any way. The front desk staff is pleasant and helpful. I frequently stay at Aloft hotels and was pleasantly surprised to find one in sleepy little South Bend Indiana! I came here for work and found that while there wasn't much to do here in town, it was nice to come back to a hotel that had a great bar, friendly staff, and a variety of games and activities to keep me and my co-worker occupied. That's one of the things that I love about this chain is that the vibe feels so trendy. I travel about 50% of the time for work and there's something about the music, decor, etc that just feels more welcoming at the Aloft as opposed to other hotel chains. I honestly can't say enough about how Josh, Alvin, and the rest of the staff seriously went above and beyond to give me the best possible experience. Unsure of whether or not I'll find myself back in this tiny little town, but if I do I will definitely come back to the Aloft. Highly recommend. read more

We were wanting to see "Come From Away" for some time now, and it was playing at the Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend. It was a 3 hour drive so as a Marriott Bonvoy member, I looked for what was close by. The Aloft was only 2 short blocks away, with an "in building" parking garage. Perfect, so I booked 2 nights (so we could take in the sights and history of South Bend the next day - which was amazing by the way) The hotel's modern decor was not my favorite, but well done (a little out of place next to so many beautiful old historic buildings, but again, not a big deal, just an observation). Its location was the center of the downtown, so virtually everything was within a couple walking blocks. Loved that. Being a Platinum member, we were immediately upgraded to a Corner King on the 14th floor, with a wonderful view of the the city. Loved that, although I was a little surprised we didn't get one of the suites like we usually do. This hotel has a Pool Table in the lobby, that was fun, I played a few times as I walked by. The 24 hour coffee in the Lobby was great, so when I woke up early am, it was there, nice and hot. Platinum Elite members are also treated to a delicious made to order breakfast each morning. I wish I had taken a photo. I ordered the "American" which was 2 Eggs (over easy) 3 pork sausages, potatoes, toast and I grabbed a Mago Blend Juice. My wife ordered a spinach tortilla wrap, with Egg Whites, Mushrooms, Tomatoes & Onions. The Front Desk associates were extremely friendly and helpful getting us acclimated to the hotel, since we had not stayed at an Aloft before (It will NOT be our last - there is a lot to like!). They had a decent sized pool, heated, but sadly no whirlpool. The fitness center was not just an afterthought, this was quite spacious with 2 bikes, 2 treadmills, and 2 ellipticals. They even had a universal gym and a well stocked dumbbell rack. Very nice. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay, both in South Bend, and at the Aloft, a very nice, well run hotel. We booked a block of rooms at the Aloft this past weekend for our age group swim club, and we could not be happier! The key person in charge of our group's weekend was Dani Baber, and she went above and beyond our expectations!! This was our 3rd year participating in a swim meet at Notre Dame, and all of our swimmers are between the ages of 7 and 14. Needless to say, during our two previous years we didn't have much luck when it came to our accommodations. We just couldn't get it all to click. Dani and her team (Annette in banquets) really put together an unbelievable weekend for us, and we're so friendly and accommodating, I can't ever see us staying anywhere else. Highlights include: Rooms booked together for the team with two separate rates - one with a breakfast and one without. This hotel doesn't normally offer a complimentary breakfast (like many chains), but they went ahead and did so, giving our families our own space in a banquet room with eggs, waffles, sausage, potatoes, cereal, coffee and juice!! If some of our families didn't want the breakfast, they got the choice to bring their own food and pay a reduced room rate. Brilliant. When I asked about bringing in outside food for dinner on Saturday night (because the team is so big, and likes to eat together), Dani came up with the idea of having a pizza party for the kids in their pool!! By the way, their pool is on the 6th floor and was big enough to accommodate 60 people for a pizza party!! Not what you're used to seeing from typical chain hotels. Annette the banquet manager was phenomenal, super helpful, and even let the adults enjoy some well deserved adult beverages after a long day at the pool. As long as we didn't have glass bottles by the pool, they were good! So for a small charge, the kiddos got to enjoy pizza, breadsticks and salad while they hung with their teammates - swimming in the pool! So cool. The hotel is dog friendly, and we brought our Shih tzu with us for the weekend! Upon check-in, we got a dog bed, a dog bowl and a bag of dog treats! The hotel is pretty trendy, so I was surprised about the dog policy... kudos to their maintenance staff, as the accommodations were beautiful and clean! Everyone at this hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. I know our team isn't easy to accommodate.. our kids want to hang out, and often find themselves roaming the halls of a hotel, and we can occasionally get a little loud. After all, they're kids!! Not only were we treated with respect (something we had issues with at other area hotels), the staff at the Aloft never gave us an issue. In fact, the lobby of this hotel has complimentary billiards and board games to keep the little ones busy! Talk about family friendly. Listen, at the end of the day, putting a weekend like this together is a lot of work.. the board that runs our team is made up of volunteers. Dani Baber, and her team took so much off my plate by giving 100%, taking care of our needs and working with us on multiple levels. I really can't thank her enough. Well done Aloft Hotel. I held my daughter's wedding ceremony and reception in this hotel for 130 people in May 2021. Their event planners did a very good job of making sure everything came together as planned and trouble free. The ballroom and surrounding facilities were clean, bright, and recently updated. My out-of-town guests enjoyed their rooms and the smoothness of the check in check out process. Then there was the food. Not good, not great, but truly outstanding. Way beyond my expectations for an event of that size. Service and security was as expected and the price was in line with what was received.The Aloft South Bend proved to be an excellent venue to provide my daughter and son-in-law with a classy and memorable wedding day. The aloft hotel is a very nice hotel with wide open spaces and an industrial yet modern feel. I like how the lobby creates a sense of gathering and fellowship with its billiard tables and array of board games to entertain the young ones. The Fitness room was great. Plenty of treadmills and elliptical trainers to get your cardio on. An adequate selection of dumbbells and a nice Precor cable unit that is sure to satisfy your muscle building needs. Again, like the hotel, very clean looking I was thoroughly pleased. The rooms are spacious. I was fortunate to get a corner room that had two full walls of windows where I was able to look down upon the beautiful city views of South Bend Indiana. The bed was really comfortable or I was very tired. We had worked in Phoenix the night before, hopped on a jet, and flew through the night to get to South Bend so the opportunity for rest full sleep wasn't going to happen until we reached our hotel and this bed wrapped its arms around me, welcomed me home, and held me tight for a good five hours of sound rest full sleep. Before I start my review, let's go back in time to July 1999. My wife and I had returned to our hometown to get married. The reception was in Mishawaka and it was about 1:30 AM before we got to our hotel, the Holiday Inn in Downtown South Bend. While she was showering, and scrubbing all of the hairstylist stuff out of her hair, the steam set off the smoke alarm in our room, causing an evacuation of the Holiday Inn. So, over 21 years later, while visiting family over Christmas a few weeks ago, we decided to have a date night, leave our son with his grandparents, and return to the scene of the crime. The Aloft has taken the place of the old Holiday Inn, after the building has had a complete refurbishment. I like Aloft Hotels, it's one of my favorite brands, and as a Lifetime Titanium Super Platinum Elite member of whatever Marriott is calling their Rewards Bonvoylicious program these days, I know my Marriott brands. Anyway, I digress. First and foremost, the fire protection system has been upgraded, so we were unable to cause the turmoil that we caused on our wedding night. We parked in the parking garage, which was reasonable and worth the $15/night fee. My Ford F-150 fit nice and tight, but if you have anything taller, don't even try. I think an Infiniti QX-80 would be too tall. We had a beautiful large corner room with a great view of the city and the now two-way downtown streets that Mayor Pete created from the old one-way streets of my South Bend youth. This accomplishment, along with the dedicated bicycle lanes, has apparently enticed Joe Biden to try to recruit Mayor Pete to be transportation secretary. The room was quiet. Very quiet. Which is a feature that tends to come with the concrete construction of old high-rise buildings. It was quiet... until someone with a Chris Hogan-esque voice checked into the room next door, and called his mother on the phone. Something about the rich baritone frequencies of this man's voice caused it to resonate right through both layers of the connecting-room door. It was actually pretty amazing how clear it was. But it was the only thing we heard all night, from outside of our room, anyway. Inside our room, the heater finally kicked on (located in a panel above the room door) and I could instantly tell that the blower motor needed some serious lubrication. Luckily, my wife sleeps with earplugs (yes, I snore) and I, as a frequent traveler who misses my loud box-fan that is always on at home while I sleep, usually play a ten hour YouTube video of a box fan while I sleep (yes, ten hour-long videos of box-fans exist on YouTube). So the fan noise from YouTube covered up the heater noise and everybody was happy... Until 2:00 AM when the hotel internet flaked out and my virtual fan stopped. Hotel Wi-Fi is never quite reliable enough for what it is advertised for, and after the internet flaked out a few more times, by 4:00, I gave up and tethered it to my smartphone hotspot and all was good. I give four stars. I always start with four stars on a hotel room if it's clean and quiet (the fifth star is only possible from me if the place has a dynamite shower head). Normally, the noise from the room next door would have knocked off a star, and the heater noise would have as well, but I'm sure that if we were staying there for more than one night, they would have taken care of that. The Internet issues in hotels are rather common so I don't normally knock off stars for that. So, being the arbitrary person that I am, I will give this review four stars and we plan on staying there again. read more

We were here for a family reunion, and this hotel was a great option for our group. The hotel lobby became our meeting place; it is roomy, with several different areas to hang out. They have board games and a pool table, and an indoor pool, all of which kept the kids busy. There is a kitchen off the lobby that prepares a hot breakfast at a very reasonable price, in addition to the cold buffet options available (pastry, cereal, fruit, etc.). There is also a full bar at one end of the lobby that also serves bar food (heated pretzel bites with cheese sauce, for example). Our room was spacious with two queen beds and a pull-out sofa bed, a desk, desk chair, and an additional sitting chair. The beds were comfortable and the floor was quiet while we were there. What a great addition to the South Bend Hotel options. It's like walking into a hip, trendy, major city hotel but you're actually in Downtown South Bend. Love it! Check in was easy. Staff was very friendly! Instead of all the typical cable options, they have internet TV like Netflix and Crackle. Parking was free-at the time they directed us to the garage across the street. It was centrally located to what we were doing. We came to town over Memorial Day Weekend to take in a South Bend Cubs baseball game. We would definitely stay here again, I fear the price probably won't be as reasonable during Notre Dame football season. read more

We had really loud neighbors, a bunch of noisy kids in the hallway fooling around,I had to call 3 times and didn't matter, people closing doors hard, the last call was at 12:30am, the person in the front desk didn't help, I like Aloft, but I would not recommend this one in South Bend IN. read more

First and foremost, a huge shout out to Alvin who literally is the nicest and friendliest and most enthusiastic front desk clerk I have ever encountered. I travel often, I have seen way too many hotel lobbies in my day, Alvin sticks out and is probably the most memorable person. The hotel was perfectly located downtown with beautiful views of the city. The hotel itself was clean, smelled great, and the room was perfect. I have never had a disappointing experience at a loft and I am super happy this hotel was available during the weekend of my brothers wedding in which we were in town for. Thank you for your accommodation! And just one more time, I hope you all value the shining star you have in Alvin. read more

I've stayed at this hotel a couple of times now and just absolutely love it. It's downtown. Parking is easy in garage. Check in is easy. Rooms are awesome. Although walls are thin, it's ok the views are amazing. The rooms are spotless. The bathroom is a great size with plenty of counter space. The shower absolutely rocks. From the water pressure to the glass enclosure to the soaps and shampoo available. I just can't say enough positive about this hotel. I've had an issue w parking one time and the customer service was incredible as well as the service recovery. Highly recommend a stay at this hotel. read more

This must have been the worst hotel experience of our lives. My wife is the team manager of a 2010 AA travel hockey team, this is her 5th year, and we have never been treated so badly. The short is the general manager, AJ, kicked us out at 11:30 (ish) pm on Friday night because a parent on our team yelled at the maintenance manager, Josh Overholser, for creeping on a child. Coincidentally, the child was not part of our team. Josh called my wife and and they met at the front desk to speak, Josh started yelling at my wife and threatened to remove the entire team from the hotel for said parents "behavior." At this point I stepped in and asked for the General Managers business card to call him in the morning. The older gentleman at the counter, did not like my attitude, of course, as I was not happy. They then began threatening to call the police and stated they could not supply a card or contact name and number for the manager. Then AJ called my wife's cellphone (from a private number) and began attacking her regarding said parents' "behavior" and not having "her team" under control, despite her repeatedly stating she would speak with the mother and the team regarding behavior in the morning. He said as the team manager (a volunteer position on a youth hockey team) we are responsible for the team parents' actions and his staff would be calling the police. I tried to intervene, again, and basically said we are going to bed, we can talk about it tomorrow during the day. He yelled, "you have 1 hour to leave!" We went to bed and then the police showed up. The back story is, The Aloft general manager AJ, accepted 3 different travel hockey teams into the hotel for the weekend. All of which were placed by the hockey tournament, meaning we did not choose this hotel. He then forced the players to stay out of the lobby and only go into a room, in the back that was under construction. The ceiling had insulation falling out of it, there were holes in the walls, the heat ducks were not attached (which also meant the room was cold). The floor had a couple holes which had carpet remnants over it, which one of our players fell into and got hurt. This room was not even close to being "up to code" let alone safe for children. The hotel tried to say, children were not allowed to walk around without an adult. Therefore AJ (general manager) had instructed his maintenance manager, Josh Overholser, to follow the children around the hotel. He would get on the elevator with children, peak around corners to spy on kids and to be honest was creeping everyone out. When Josh was yelling at my wife, he said, the team cannot interfere with the other guests, they have a comedy show in the basement, and a DJ in the lobby. We asked if he came and told the parents of the children that they could not move around the hotel without them. The answer was of course no, it was also asked by myself and my wife why he had not identified himself as a hotel employee to the children or parents, as he had nothing on his person identifying him as "security" or any sort of employee as he is following persons into the elevator and down hallways. My wife was with our daughter, escorting her to our room where our son was playing Xbox when the situation with "said Parent" took place, neither of us were aware it had happened or any details. Some of our team players were and had been moving around the hotel by themselves (age range 12-16 years old) but again we have no indication that they were acting inappropriately or disturbing anyone. For this hotel, and the GM, AJ, to voluntarily host 3 hockey teams for the weekend and then treat them as unwelcome guests is disappointing enough on its own. The treatment of my wife, myself, and my two children, because she is the team manager for one of the teams was outright disgusting. read more
