There are mostly good vendors above all else, but it's also the best blooming onion (and I look forward to it every year!) We park for free and walk a bit of a distance. I love seeing the homes decorated for Halloween! We don't ride fair rides, but we do live to people watch and, this year, we caught the pet parade which was really great! So much bigger than I ever expected and some very sweet pets in adorable costumes!! Love trying the different treats. Though it's not homemade, I got a pumpkin roll from the Shriners booth and it was pretty tasty and for a good cause. Also purchased some homemade buckeyes from a church group that were awesome. Always love seeing the giant pumpkins, too! I do wish they had more local vendors for buying gifts. The vendors are mainly cheap mass produced junk shop goods (and a lot of gross political things.) Just not my vibe at all. I still think it's worth a visit though! It's well run and a great way to get into the spooky season!

There's a large shelter with tables to eat and relax in. We'll be here next year.

But over the past few years, and the downtown in the economy, its gotten a little weaker. In fact, it used to be a 3-day festival with live bands, food, and entertainment, but now its only one day with no live bands, only a few bouncy castles for the kids and a parade that I think is getting more and more peaked by the year. What redeems this event is that it really is a family event and you can spend all day here and have a good time. The children's parade starts at 10am and ends at a carnival. The main parade was at 1.30 and featured Eric Smith of the New York Jets as the grand marshall. The fireworks are surprisingly good and lasted around 30 minutes. Quite a few people come to watch the fireworks so parking can get a bit tight. The school lot was completely filled up but the cops aren't too diligent about ticketing for parking illegally during the fireworks (but you'd better move your car right afterwards) or you can also park for free at the rec center down the road. Or if you don't want to walk or risk a ticket, several of the houses along Main offer parking for $5 a car in their yards.

This place is essentially like the kids space at COSI. Different areas for them to play and get creative. Dress up, read, sing on the little stage, climb on the construction equipment, pretend to grocery shop, play on the splash table and build a pipe line for the water to travel through, and much more. We (unfortunately) went on a day when a HUGE daycare or playgroup was also visiting, so about 15 mins after arriving, this swarm of over 50 adults and kids came in and it just got insane. I overheard another mom say that she's never seen so many people in there, so it reassured me that it's not always like this. This place isn't super fancy, and I did wonder about their sanitation procedures because I didn't see any buckets or bins for toys to go in if a kid had put it in their mouth. My LO being under a year, and my nephew being 18 months, you know everything goes in the mouth. They had a little "plop zone" which is the sacred safe space for babies under 2 to not get trampled. My daughter liked it, and liked chewing every toy, which takes me back to the germs... Butbi tried to let it go. The one thing I truly disliked about this place is that you have to pay to get in, even as an adult. $8 for me to supervise my own kid? Okay... Luckily my daughter was free because she was under 1, but I thought it was kind of ridiculous that adults have to pay for their child and themselves. It would make me think twice about coming here regularly once she's over 12 months because I don't think $16 is worth it. As of right now, all she can do is sit in the little baby plop zone. So if you really need something to do on a rainy day, definitely come here. It's safe and the kids for sure have fun. But if it's not a rainy day or you have a lot of kiddos, weigh out all your options, lol.

Paintings all over the walls. Macedonian music playing outside. As you enter through the building. There is two rows of food - both sides of the line offer the same goods. Tons of pork and beef dishes, kabobs, sausages. Dessert are the later half of the line. Cream puffs, pastries, baklava, fruit-and-nut concoctions. I'm planning to systematically nibble through all these treats. I'm extra excited for a bite of the stuffed pepper and giant sausage (for the love, I can't remember the name of them - but they look very plump and juicy)!!
