I had my eye on this place for a long time - we finally got to go and it was very much worth the drive. It looks small but the property is very large! Lots of acreage with a pond and chapel for weddings. They have recently expanded into a reception hall and event space. The taproom is small but the beer garden is cool! It has a trail the leads down an embankment to the pond and wooded area in the valley. Picnic in the summer, go for shows and to sit in the great outdoors. Lota if picnic areas. The time we were there they had Goodale trucks as well. Lots of parking on the space. It wasn't busy so the bartenders were attentive - can't speak to busy times. We specifically went to hear a band on a Saturday night. The place was packed and the music was loud. We ended up parking across the street in an additional parking lot. The food was a barbecue truck outside and we chose not to order because it was so hard to get a seat. Order your drinks at the bar because there isn't a wait staff to take your order. Beautiful location and grounds! So glad we got to check it out during the beautiful fall season. Service was super friendly and quick. Good amount of options for beverages and well priced! To be honest I thought Rockmill had closed. So when I recently learned they had been purchased by new owners and are continuing to operate I was very excited. Last weekend I visited Rockmill for their first annual festival. They had several live bands and food trucks. The festival was a bit disrupted by the weather and the music had to be moved inside. Which is unfortunate because they had just built a new stage down by the pond. But I can't really hold the weather against them. It was still a good time. My favorite thing about Rockmill is the property. It has two very nice buildings and a lovely pond to sit by. Also a cute little church is down by the lake they hold ceremonies at. It's a beautiful spot with a ton of room to hang out and enjoy your beer. At the time I visited they had just hired a new head brewer and were about to start making their own beers again. So I'll have to check it out again to try their new brews! read more

Rockmill Brewery is magical. If I could design a brewery for myself, it would look something like this. A place with great beer and food, in a beautiful setting, where you can walk around the wide-open grounds and explore with alcohol in your hand. Oh, and great music! I was Shazamming throughout my meal to add some of the songs I heard to my playlists. We visited on a perfect spring day, right when they opened, which added to the serenity of our visit. We were the only people for at least a half hour, so we had the place to ourselves. The server greeted us and asked if we wanted a beer, and encouraged us to take it and go explore. OK! Our children needed to burn off some energy, so this was just what we needed to hear (and do). We walked around their 23 acres to the large pond and stepped onto the dock, checked out the vintage chapel, climbed over to the small cliffs, and looked at all of the beautiful flowers blooming in the garden. Then we made our way to the tables to have lunch in their large outdoor dining area. The menu isn't huge, but we found something for all of us. We got plain grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids (not on the menu, but they will make you one if you ask nicely!), a grilled cheese with sundried tomato pesto, and a turkey club. All of the food was great, but be aware that the sundried tomato pesto is super concentrated! It almost tasted like tamarind. It's definitely a sandwich for a more sophisticated eater. We also got a bowl of duck fat popcorn to share. This was the star of the meal! Our kids devoured it and didn't even know it was popped with duck fat. All they knew was that it was crispy and salty and good. There isn't a kids menu here, but like I said, you can ask that they make a plain grilled cheese, and they also have pizza (wood-fired pizza), which most kids like. As for the beer: I asked the server what she recommended, and she gave me the Dubbel, which is a red beer and was so tasty that I got two! Obviously, they have all of their beer on draft, but they also have bottles to go. Rockmill Brewery is close to Hocking Hills and Columbus, which is why we popped over -- we were in the area on vacation. But next time I visit, it's going to be because I make an intention trip to visit! It really is a destination brewery. read more

Very beautiful setting. They had a real fire going along with the smell that accompanies. The place was dead empty on a Friday night, probably because of the location. I could definitely see this being the trendy spot for some young adults though. All the beers I sampled were a little above average the central Ohio craft beer. The service was very personalized (maybe because we were the only ones on there). Very kind bartender/owner nonetheless. She actually gave me sound medical advice while I was there. It's been a hot minute since we've been out to Rockmill in Lancaster. (think pre pandemic). We were camping out at A.W. Marion State Park and thought why not knock off some of the CBus Ale Trail. We sat outside, as we had our dog with us. Rockmill provided a dog dish for our four legged kid. This was the first time we've been out to Rockmill since the expansion/the pandemic. We'll definitely head south from Columbus again soon. The pizza was a delight. Pizza sauce was a pizza sauce (meaning that it hadn't been can cooked prior to being added to the crust). We had the burrata (burrata, basil, and a San Marzano sauce). Paired well with the glass of rosé grenache I had. Charcuterie was nice but there was no explanation as to what the cheeses or meats were. I sorted out that one was a prosciutto (heavily smoked). There was what seemed like pickled jicama on the plate as well. (It did make me miss the charcuterie/breads & fats at Rockmill Tavern in Columbus. Fingers crossed they reopen!! read more

Another review for me on Rockmill. My first review for Rockmill was a few years ago, but had been back to Rockmill over the last few years. The brewery is built on acres of a horse farm. The location of the new tasting room ( since the last time I was there) is on the right when you pull in to the lot. There is more parking across the street. The tasting room has large windows which gives lots of natural light. There are a variety of tables to accommodate different size of groups. The bar area is nice. The fireplace is a nice touch. Beer flights are available, which was a great way to try a variety of beers. There are tasty light beers. The salted chocolate chip pistachio cookie was delicious. Our server was very friendly, this establishment has food so we opted to try the wood fired pizza. We ordered a standard pepperoni. Okay, as a whole I love this Brewery. The grounds are amazing and it just feels like they've dealt out in the work to make the space amazing. We ended up sitting outside with our friends by the heater and it kept us decently warm. Not really my first choice since it was drizzly but I didn't choose the seating. There is plenty of outside seating as well as a nice overhang. We brought our pup as well. Big win for dog friendly. The bar service was good. We had to go inside to order but it was quick and they brought our food outside. I got a sour and enjoyed it and also a pizza. Pepperoni one that I added mushrooms. The peppers and Parmesan was super delicious and spicy due to the chili peppers! The baked goods are maid by _cloudery on Instagram and they are top of line for us. We had a few beers, a couple of pizzas, but the cookies and brownies were to die for! The special today was a three cheese lobster pizza - everyone was getting it around us. Rockmill Brewery was our first restaurant in-dining experience since Covid began. They have very expansive grounds so it is fairly easy to maintain social distancing. We had gone there with a bunch of friends and I highly recommend it. They have a variety of local beers, which were quite good. They also have a "farm menu", which was quite good I thought. Excellent service, Lovely location (although a bit far from us), and good food. Just make sure to tell them that you'd like an extended reservation when you book otherwise you may have to give up your table :), which happened to us, but it was fine, because we just brought chairs and sat in a separate location and they still served us. read more

Today was our first time back at Rockmill in several years and we finally got to experience the new taproom! The new building is gorgeous, there's plenty of tables indoors and outdoors as well as seats at the bar. The property is dog friendly which is probably my favorite part! You can also keep your tab open if you go from the farmhouse to the taproom, so you definitely can roam around while you enjoy your beer or wine. Rockmill Brewery is much different than a typical brewery. It's in the middle of nowhere. To be precise, it's a few miles from Lancaster. It's worth a visit of course. They have a good selection. A lot of brewery frequenters have already been to the brewpub in the Brewery District. It has the same beers. This location doesn't have food, at least they didn't the last time. It definitely feels like it's in the country. There's lots of barns or storage sheds between the parking lot and the main building, so it feels like you're on a farm. It has a pretty good list of beers. There's not a ton of them. I had the Cerise Sour. It's about $6 for a pint. This is not excessively sweet. It's pretty good. This has a light cherry taste. I would like to come here again. If you're going to Lancaster make a stop here. You better put in in your GPS because it's hard to find if you haven't been there. read more

We visited Rockmill Brewery yesterday on one of the prettiest days we've seen in 2021, and it was just an absolute dream! We had a reservation for a table in the taproom, which we made 2 weeks in advance (if it's a pretty day, be sure to make a reservation!). We were there for my birthday and we were very well taken care of by Lexi, our server. I ordered the cerise sour beer, and also tried the dry hopped sour which was awesome, as well as the yuzu seltzer which was also good. I decided the cerise was my favorite and ordered those for the rest of the night. We got a charcuterie board for the table which we all enjoyed sharing. Everyone loved the mixed nuts the best on there which I didn't try, but they had rave reviews around the table. We ordered pizzas which came out fairly quickly! 3/4 of the couples there got the brisket pizza which has blue cheese on it - so good! Everyone was satisfied with their food and we were definitely full by the end of our meal. We took a little walk around the grounds and we're so impressed with the beauty of it! I can see why so many people flock from columbus and the surrounding areas to enjoy the lake, beers, and natural scenery that surrounds rockmill. We came on a Sunday for a meetup group, and was our first visit to this brewery. It is a nice drive into the country, and what a great place to relax with a beer. We sat by the cozy lit fireplace on a sofa, and enjoyed flights of 4. They offered 6 different brews to choose from for the flights. All really good, including a cherry sour. We purchased 4 bottles to take home. There was a bbq food truck outside and we shared a meal (the mac 'n cheese was tasty, but I don't eat pork so I didn't indulge). There is a long bar, and high tops in the front room, and in the back room with the fireplace seating, they also have large tables with chairs. There is also a second floor room. Everyone was very nice, from the bartender, to the employee walking around removing empy glasses. It was a rainy day, so we didn't get to enjoy the outside during this visit, but it is very scenic. I've had their beers numerous times. Coming back and having lunch was worth the wait. My pork was very tender and fell apart. I had the spicy barbecue sauce, which was tangy and with a little zip. The pinto beans were flavorful and seasoned well, not really spicy. The smoked Mac and cheese was very creamy with great flavor. I washed it down with one of their Saisson's, which is my favorite of theirs. They have 23 acres with trails, a pond and plenty of outdoor seating. A little off the beaten path but so so worth it for both Columbus people and Hocking Hills travelers alike! Phenomenal beers with a cozy, hometown vibe. It feels like you are in a log cabin out in the wilderness while sipping craft beers! From perusing the menu, they mostly have stouts and lighter beers. I'm more of an IPA gal, but still found some great beers! Their Caamp IPA is delicious, but my favorite ended up being the Dubbel! A great winter time beer. If it were warmer, I think the white ale would've been my favorite (tried it and it was great, just not seasonal!). My husbands favorite was the Rugged Expanse, a stout. We got their popcorn side and it was GOOD, you guys. I am telling you, I never knew popcorn could be this good. It is apparently popped it duck fat? Amazing. Our dog also loved it. On that note, well behaved, leashed dogs are even allowed in their tasting room inside as well as outside on their patio. Patio has a couple outdoor heaters, but not enough to cover more than 1-2 seating areas. The inside is beautifully decorated with a couple Christmas trees in the winter and a roaring fire with a couple beautiful lanterns! While I'm sure they are getting more and more traffic, this place still feels like a small town business. Who I'm going to presume is the owner came to take our drink order while she was doing other work as she noticed our glasses were empty. We also enjoyed getting to know other guests and their dogs, all with proper masking involved! 10/10 experience! read more

GREAT venue! LOVED the atmosphere and the EXCELLENT service. Can't wait for the weather to turn with more consistent clear skies and warm breezes so we can go back and enjoy their outdoor spaces. The craft beer and seltzer selection is OUTSTANDING, and the recommendations of the staff are SPOT ON, so don't shy away from asking for what you prefer in a craft beer. Whether you're an IPA fan, Porter Preferred, Lager Lover, or Amber Aligned, the staff can get you pointed to your carefully brewed beverage. I just removed all doubt and ordered a flight... TIP: Once you find what you like, go ahead and order another one. If you're thinking, "But I really don't have room in the gut for a large pour," not to worry.... Ask for a half pour! Ingenious! As for the food, let me lead with this. The pizza and salad are AMAZING! Not sure you could wrong with any of the selections. The only drawback (and reason for 4 stars instead of 5) is that pizza and salad is really all you're getting from the menu. There are other offerings, but to move me to 5 stars would require a little more of a selection for chow like a burger or a steak and cheese. This gets a MUST DO! On my first trip to Rockmill, I kept asking myself if I am really in Ohio. The instant you arrive, you feel like you are transported to a Rocky Mountain oasis. If you have ever been to Sundance, Utah, everything about this brewery will remind you of that quaint little getaway in the mountains. The property that Rockmill sits on is absolutely gorgeous. The brewery area sits atop a hill overlooking a large pond where visitors can walk around and enjoy their beers. The original taproom was closed for a private event. However, Rockmill recently opened a second taproom and it is GORGEOUS. This "campus" of a brewery regularly features a food truck. There is ample seating all over the natural expanse for those who want to take their drinks somewhere other than the taproom. As for the beer, Rockmill boasts many different options for many different pallets. The white ale is my favorite craft beer in Columbus. There, I said it! Its phenomenal. Rockmill holds a special place in my heart. I can't wait to revisit when the leaves or snow are falling. The website didn't make reservations seem necessary, and when we stopped in for drinks on a early Friday afternoon it was very empty so we thought a walk-in would be alright. Despite many nice tables being open on the main patio area we were taken to a worn down table outside of the fenced in property that was all alone in tall grass. No view except heavy forest and the side of the building. My boyfriend and I joked that it was the reject table. It made us feel strange that we were being seated so far away plus the bugs were attacking our legs from being in the grass. We did eventually ask to move and were able to move to a patio table. If you do decide to come here, make sure you make a reservation in advance. Another reason for giving a 3 star review is that with COVID, they have enacted a $10 per PERSON per HOUR minimum alcohol purchase. With each beer being in the $7 range, this means each person must drink 2 beers an hour. This is extremely unsafe and might encourage some people to drink more than they can handle, especially if they need to drive after. Other than that, the beers were very good and a flight of 4 is $10. Very nice indoor decor and architecture and patio was classy and clean. I felt safe with the COVID cleaning procedures and required masks. Very nice staff too! read more

Columbus has a lot of awesome restaurants and bars, but then so does most other major cities in the U.S. So sometimes it's difficult for me to pick an "unique" experience for when I have friends/family visiting from out of town. Well guys, Rockmill Brewery definitely would qualify as an awesome, unique experience. This microbrewery, located at a converted farmhouse with an outdoor patio, outdoor trails, and a pond on site is a perfect way to spend a relaxing Friday or Saturday evening in the summer. Their beers are excellent, and you can get a flight of 3 draft beers for $7. Usually, beers tend to cost more at bars than they do at the grocery store... but Rockmill basically charges the same amount for their beers here as I would pay at Giant Eagle. I was also pretty excited when they served their beer flights in Glencairn whisky snifter glasses. So how good are their beers? On the beer rating smartphone app Untappd, Rockmill Brewery currently has a higher average beer rating than the vaunted Great Lakes Brewing Company... so it's pretty good. To be completely honest, I do think that Columbus Brewing Company is the best overall brewery in Columbus... but CBC doesn't have a farmhouse beer tasting room! In terms of food, there isn't an on-site restaurant here so they allow you to bring your own food. The last time we came, we packed some delicious sandwiches from Danny's Deli downtown. They also have food trucks here on the weekends, so that would be an option as well. On another note, the property is home to several friendly cats. For cat lovers, who needs cat cafes when you can just go to Rockmill Brewery? For those of you who are allergic to cats, be sure to take a Claritin or Zyrtec before visiting. If you hate cats/animals... I guess you might be out of luck. read more

Rockmill is awesome! It is back off some winding back roads a bit off 33. They have a new taproom that apparently we stopped in and it was only the second weekend that had been open. I had heard they do Belgian style beers which I am not a huge fan of so I was a little weary of stopping in but they had a couple IPA's on draft and a stout that was VERY tasty. They have a little fireplace outside with a table next to it and lots of lawn chairs with space to hang out and look out into the woods. I was a little disappointed that there was a wedding happening while we were there so we couldn't go check out the grounds which I had seen pics of and it looks beautiful. Back Country BBQ food truck was there and their food was GREAT! I highly recommend getting some of that if you stop in to Rockmill. There was a nice music playlist going with speakers spread around the back patio area so you could hear it even if you were out hanging out in the grass. i would have loved to just hang out back there all night. Wow!!! This place is amazing! The scenery and use of outside space is perfect. We weren't able to explore all of it because of a wedding but what we did see was impressive. The drinks were good but the food was another story. We ordered a wood fire pizza and barely ate it. The grease on it was unimaginable. I picked up a piece that was literally dripping grease on to the ground! Since our visit, a friend told us they have improved their pizza but honestly, we won't go back there to eat.
