If you're looking for a psychiatrist who genuinely cares about your well-being, do no see Amanda Snow. If I wasn't a strong person against my depression, or if it was a worse dark wave at the time, I may have taken my own life by her not so nice words. The very first visit, she asked me about some of the things in which I have been through. I told her about my sexual assault in which she replied, "Yeah, but have you actually dealt with a sexual assault?" She implied that my scenario was not what she was asking, clearly she does not know the definition of sexual assault. Also, what kind of therapist is to shut down a patient's feelings about sensitive subjects? Not the kind of psychiatrist I want, I want someone to empathize with, as for that is their job - not to tell me I have not been through the things that I open up to her about. At one of my meetings, I was informed about my medicine dosage. I was confused because we had not talked about raising the dosage and she argued about the dosage I was currently on (I went home and checked the label, I was correct about my dosage). My mother and I called to ask questions about why it was raised without being discussed, the receptionist said she would find out and call back. Since my mom was there too, they never called back. My next appointment I mentioned it and Amanda was rude enough to tell me they can't call me when my mom calls. Okay? But, I was there too and my phone number is on file. So by all means why would they not reach out to MY personal number? I ended up gradually having problems with my meds, my side effects were terrible, vivid nightmares, and increased depression. I'm no doctor but I have been to the doctor enough to know that if you develop worse thoughts, raising the dose when the other side effects are bad is not going to help anything, it will make it worse. It's been several months on this medication and I feel as if it has prevented me from having a good nights rest ever since. I wanted off of it. I explained the nightmares, it was dismissed because all she heard was "more depressed." So her initial response was to raise the dose. Therapists are supposed to LISTEN. So I told her, well what about these nightmares? She asked me what type of nightmares, I explained and it was "we can put you on a second medication to help." I don't want a second medication, especially when I would prefer not to be on the first. We got to the point she told me I may need therapy to analyze my dreams?? The nightmares didn't start until the first dose of meds I took and never went away. One simple google search and you can see that these nightmares are common with the meds I'm on, she was very uneducated about the medicine she put me on. Doesn't make me feel comfortable to know that. Every solution was just something to give this place more money. Honestly it seems she cares more about money than my mental health. Eventually she asked me if I wanted off the meds because someone was pressuring me to. Um, no? I want off the meds because I KNOW they are making me feel worse than I did when off the medicine. She made some comments implying my brain is so messed up that I can't be off the meds because I need them and getting off of them would be worse. Just because I deal with depression and anxiety does not mean I'm damaged and NEED medication. And she sarcastically laughed at nearly everything that came out of my mouth. Talk about disrespect.
But, if I do go some time without my meds and turns out I need them still - I will be returning to a psychiatrist but certainly not in this practice. I would continue getting more depressed if I returned to this location. And she was never on time to the appointments. One time I was told my appointment was at 10am and I was there way before my time, but at exactly 10am she called someone else back. I asked the receptionist when my appointment was and she said I was next. I didn't go back until 10:30am which would be fine if that was when my appointment was, but it was not.
This all being said, Gary, who referred me to see Amanda Snow was great. He's a wonderful guy who made me feel comfortable not having to attend therapy every week. But, do not see Amanda as your psychiatrist if you choose to see Gary. read more
