Driving Rte 66 on a Sunday afternoon after having skipped breakfast we weren't about to be too picky about our lunch stop. This "diner" delivered on that parameter. It's a fine place to stop if you're not too picky about what you're eating. Diner is a misnomer. It's fast food - burgers, fries, etc. On the upside, service was fast and the food was piping hot. On the other hand, Lord help this place if US Foods is late on their delivery. Nearly everything was straight out of the freezer into the fryer. Except the overly wet chicken salad. That was probably straight out of the 5 gallon bucket. The chicken strips were more like planks, both in shape and texture. They were maybe 1/16 - 1/8 inch thick and most of that was breading. We came here twice while visiting the area. The first time for ice cream, which was really good. The second time for ice cream again and I tried a chili cheese dog, which was tasty. The service is friendly and the food comes up quickly. There's seating inside and out, which is nice to have a choice. All in all a very good experience. read more

Review Visit: April 24th, 2017 Fairlane Diner is not quite a diner, not quite a restaurant and not quite a fast food joint. It's a bit of all 3, wrapped up in it's own unique style. It has the feel and look of a 50's diner, with the layout and service of a Fast Food place with a bit of a full restaurant pricing. Coming here after hiking at Carpenter Park was a great idea. It was pretty much right up the road from the Park, so having it nearby was super nice since I was starving. Walking in, you quickly notice that you order your food similar to a fast food restaurant. They even give you the little number and bring the food out to you. The place is a bit small, so if you visit during a lunch rush, seating may be very limited. The prices of the menu were about on par with a fast food place, if not a bit more. But $9 will get you a sandwich and fries. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with fries and a soda. The fries were pretty good, nothing stellar, but the chicken sandwich was fantastic. It was grilled to perfection without losing any moisture. I've had many chicken sandwiches and this has to be Top 3 for me. It was that good. They also service ice cream, which sounded good, but I passed as I was ready to hit the road back home. Overall, the Fairlane Diner is Fantasticlane Diner in my books. It's a small place with slightly higher than diner prices, but it was worth every penny in my book. read more

Visited due to the close proximity to Athens. We had tried some of the food from here previously with takeout and it is delicious. This time I went with the fried bologna sandwich and fries. It was really tasty. Service it the counter and I'm not a huge fan of that but when they brought the food out the servers were very attentive. It was cold AF in the dining room. We could see the thermostat and it said 74°, but it was easily ten degrees colder than that. Good food... they need to figure out how to get it warmer in the dining room. read more

Nice little diner inside. A gaming room if you have time to spare and that's something you enjoy. I tried to order a burger by itself and even though it was an option on the menu hanging above the counter, the staff person insisted everything was served as a combo basket. It's not really a big deal, except I didn't really want the soda and side I ended up paying for. The burger was really good - served steaming hot from the grill. I had wanted a single, but apparently, the staff person also decided I needed a double. If allowed to order on my own, next time I'd get the single without a side and share hubby's tater tot's! Hubby had the BLT and thought it was ok. It had a decent amount of bacon, which is key to a good BLT. I'd give my burger a 4, but the entire experience was more of a 3 for me. read more

Stopped in Sherman for the night and headed out for some dinner. Saw this place on yelp and like diners and ice cream so decided to give it a shot. I had a single cheeseburger with tots. The patty is thin and slightly crispy and the bun was toasted inside but soft. I really enjoyed it. Diner #2 went all in and got the Chicago Dog Horseshoe - a plate with toast on bottom and cut hot dogs, sport peppers, sauerkraut, tomatoes, onions, mustard, relish, and cheese sauce piled with fries. We stopped in late yesterday, Sunday, not too long before closing. We were literally the last customers in the door, though there were others through the drive-in later. The young woman behind the counter was helpful and attentive, what the French would call " chaleureuse " in this context (usually translated as 'warm', but the connotation is more 'hearty' or 'welcoming'). Our food was out promptly and was well and freshly prepared. All this while they were busy getting ready to close -- they never missed a beat. The food itself is a little more mixed, though none of it bad. My wife's chicken salad reminded her of her mother's: high praise indeed. My hot ham and cheese was pretty good, though I would have preferred cheddar and some lettuceoniontomato. My chili was decent but not great, maybe a C+, but it has potential. The iced tea was pretty good but not fabulous (which is hard); it was the best I had on our trip. All in all, I'd stop here again without hesitation, though I wouldn't drive 150 miles just for that. read more

Whenever I go out of town I try to support locally owned businesses. I found this diner on yelp and it had good reviews-Just yuck. The food was not very good and very over priced. Staff not very friendly. However the owner or manager was super friendly to a table of young people that claimed to be "influencers". Too bad I had high hopes for this place. read more

Delicious soft serve. Can't speak for the food, as we didn't have any. But, for a diner in a tiny town- it had a steady stream of patrons. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely come back. My daughter is gluten intolerant. When we inquired (2 separate times) about gluten free items on their menu: The first time the manager didn't know if the french fries were gluten free?? I go here every summer when I visit family in Sherman. Coming from Chicago I'm admittedly pretty picky where I eat since I'm used to many options. I gotta say this place never disappoints! It's no frills but the burgers and wraps are always on point! Everything takes a little while because it's made to order but well worth it. Stopped here because of the Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed, great 50's style burger joint. Great burgers and tots and the Philly was great also. The food here was okay, once we got it. We waited 40 minutes - this is a fast food place with a drive thru - and the workers were surly and offered no explanation or apology. Other customers received incorrect orders multiple times while we we there and were asking for refunds. It's been two years since my original review and thought this was due for an update. The fries are always piping hot and I love the wax bag it comes in through the drive-thru. The soft serve ice cream cones are delicious! Better than other soft serve. Very clean inside. It does definitely smell like fry oil when you walk in though. I like that there is a veggie burger option - but haven't tried it. I do think the outside needs some work and updating but doesn't seem to affect food quality! read more

Crunchy tasteless burgers on a grease soaked bun?!?! Disgusting but that's what I was served when we stopped at Fairlane Diner 2 weekends ago. The first burger they served was 'thin & crispy' I eat my pizza that way but not my burgers - crunchy on the outside and all the way through. I asked to have my burger recooked so it wasn't crunchy and was told 'that's how we always cook them'. HUH!?!?!? People eat them that way?!?! Replacement burger looked better - not crunchy this time but something was funny - - the bottom bun was soggy from oil & grease. When I showed the DRIPPING bun to the middle age woman behind the counter her response? "For cripes sake". Huh?!? Would YOU eat this crap? I didn't think so!!! AVOID THIS PLACE. Have only gotten carry out thru the drive thru, but the burgers were very good and fries were nice, hot, and crispy. They cooked everything once I ordered, so it took a few minutes to get the food. Was shopping for black friday. All other places near us were super busy. So heard about a diner. Stopped in and it was questionable on if it would be great food. I was pleasantly surprised. Part of my party had their pony shoes. They came out hot! On real red plates. The pony shoes were excellent. We are f r on out of state, but I would hit this place on our next trip. Great food.
