Nearly Six Months Without Resolution -- Now Our Entire Home Has No Central A/C…read more I have been a First American Home Warranty customer and opened HVAC Claim HCC315410992 on March 27, 2026. What followed has been an exhausting process involving multiple service visits, changing repair scopes, three First American-assigned HVAC companies, failed appointments, and significant out-of-pocket expenses. After concerns about the original diagnosis, I paid independently for evaluations from Comfort Land and Superior AC & Heat. Both identified broader concerns with the HVAC system than the limited repair being pursued through the warranty process. After serious problems with the second assigned contractor, First American assigned Tru Tex Heating & Air, its third contractor, on August 26. Tru Tex evaluated our system on August 27. Following that evaluation, First American ultimately authorized replacement of the entire HVAC system--the indoor air handler/evaporator equipment AND outdoor condensing unit. First American later confirmed that full-system replacement to me in writing. On September 4, following communications between Tru Tex and First American, I was informed by First American's assigned contractor that the full-system replacement had been approved and would proceed without additional cost to me. I preserved the original voicemail. Our home has two Trane systems, and I preferred another Trane. However, when I was informed First American intended to provide different equipment, I agreed on September 8 to accept the alternative Carrier equipment rather than delay our installation over brand preference. I was told the equipment would be picked up and that I would be contacted to schedule installation. We waited. Then on September 15, after further communications concerning the claim, I was informed that homeowner payment was now required. First American subsequently stated in writing that my responsibility would be $4,850 in "non-covered" costs. First American says it never personally told me there would be no homeowner expense and says the $4,850 was submitted by Tru Tex. My concern is straightforward: Tru Tex was selected and assigned to me by First American, and I had been told through that assigned contractor, following its communications with First American, that the approved replacement would proceed without additional cost. I relied upon that information and agreed to move forward. Meanwhile, the consequences of the delays have become much more serious. For months, our second Trane system carried the cooling demand of the home while the system covered by this claim remained nonfunctional. That second system is now experiencing problems, including water leakage around the HVAC area and apparent property damage that is being professionally evaluated. We now have no functioning central air in our home. My husband is a 100% disabled veteran with service-connected PTSD, and my mother has dementia and relies heavily on a stable, familiar environment. This prolonged disruption has been extremely difficult for our household. We are handling the second HVAC system ourselves through our independent HVAC company. We are not asking First American to cover that system. For the original claim, we are ready to proceed. We have not refused replacement. In fact, I accepted equipment other than my preferred Trane specifically to avoid another delay. After nearly six months, First American has finally authorized the full-system replacement--but it still has not been installed, and we are now disputing an unexpected $4,850 homeowner obligation after being informed that the approved replacement would proceed without additional cost. I have preserved the emails, photographs, contractor documentation and original voicemail supporting my account. At this point, I simply want the already-authorized replacement completed and the conflicting information regarding the $4,850 resolved.
