We usually stop by when we're walking to or from Surfside. We visited midday on a Saturday when I took these photos and there was only one other family there, so it was a very pleasant experience. The shade under the trees gives you a breezy and cool feel on a hot summer day. The equipment at this park is a bit outdated and needs an upgrade, in my opinion. Our son loves the basketball courts and they also have a very large soccer field (grassy area) to play on. The Surfside community has many events here for residents only, which we are unable to attend since we live across the bridge. :-P

Vista Park is a 30 acre athletic park in Weston that opened in 2002. It is between Cypress Bay High School and Falcon Cove Middle School. This well maintained and spacious park is primarily used by the youth sports leagues in Weston. Vista Park has four baseball / softball fields and four multi purpose fields that can be used for football, lacrosse, and soccer. The park also has an electric vehicle charging station, restrooms, shelters and pavilion which can be rented, and a shaded covered playground with a section for younger children and one for older kids. During my visit there was soccer practice and a baseball game going on. The parking lot is large enough to accommodate several sporting events at once. The park has a nice walking trail so that you can exercise while waiting for your kids to finish up practice. Lightning is always a concern when you are outside in Florida and Vista Park is protected by the Lightning Prediction System ThorGuard. If you hear one horn blast seek shelter. When it is all clear it will be signaled by three blasts of the horn. The City of Weston really thought of everything to make sure that the kids who are participating in sports not only have a great facility to play in but that they are also safe while doing so.

Sawyer who along with his wife Katherine founded the Pembroke Road Baptist Church and the Pembroke Christian Academy of Miramar. In 2021 the city of Miramar embarked on a $1 million recreation expansion program that gave Miramar two new parks and refurbished eight others. $600,000 was raised from donations, grants, and fees from developers. Sawyer Park was one of the eight parks to receive new play equipment and landscaping. Sawyer Park is completely fenced in which is great for safety. Outside the fence are a few parking spaces. Inside the park the playground equipment is ADA accessible and trees provide welcome shade. There is also an open grassy area for unstructured play. This is a great recreational amenity for the people in the neighborhood to take their kids to play.

The map can be filtered by city and landmark type. One of the landmarks on the map is CW Thomas Park in Dania Beach. The park is located in a historically Black section of Dania Beach known as Danie. C.W. Thomas Park was formerly named Modello Park. The name was changed to honor Charlie Will Thomas who graduated from Attucks school, another historic landmark a few miles north. Attucks High School in Dania Beach was a high school for Black students that graduated its last class in 1968. It later became Attucks Middle School, a magnet school in Broward County Public Schools. C.W. Thomas was lauded for his philanthropy and community service. The historic baseball diamonds in this park were home to the Dania Redbirds, a semi-pro negro league baseball team. The team was created in 1958 by local high school graduates from Attucks High School and included players from the Libera, now Hollywood, and Dania Beach neighborhoods As a teenager in the 70s, Oddibe McDowell played for the Redbirds. He went on to play professionally after being drafted in the first round by the Texas Rangers. After he retired from baseball he coached at his alma mater, McArthur High School in Hollywood. Another notable Redbird player was former Chicago Cubs Outfielder Andre Dawson known as the "The Hawk" and "Awesome Dawson." Today the park is undergoing a transformation. It is just one of Dania Beach's parks benefitting from a 45 million dollar investment into the city parks and recreation department. Other parks receiving upgrades from this money include Chester Byrd Park, Frost Park, and PJ Meli Aquatic Complex. In addition a $3 million Federal Grant has been secured for the redevelopment of a recreational, social, and civic community center for C.W. Thomas Park. When completed park amenities will include a new football field, playground, community center, covered exercise area, basketball court, dog park, recreation pool, and parking lot. Groundbreaking took place back in October of 2022 and the park still isn't finished. Renovations are expected to be complete late this year.

Unlike some of other parks in town, it has a dedicated parking lot. It also has a camera aimed at the parking lot to discourage break ins. Smash and grabs are a problem for people enjoying south Florida parks and this added level of security is welcome. Park amenities include a Veteran's memorial, very nice covered playground, open play area with soccer net, picnic shelters with tables, shade trees, paved exercise path, and restroom. This is a great place to take the kids to play and picnic with the added bonus of knowing your car is being watched in the parking lot.
