There are people who help you buy and sell homes for a profession and then there are Real-Estate…read moreProfessionals - rare to find and are on a whole different level than the rest. Lindsay Redfern is the latter. My family and I had a complicated move in which we were relocating (during a pandemic!) from South Florida to North Carolina - a state we had never lived in nor had family residing in. Lindsay was assigned to us through her Real-Estate Firm, Cottingham Chalk Hayes, that I had contacted online and she was just what we needed. She carefully listened to our LONG shopping list of "must-haves" in a home and neighborhood. We continued to speak via email/telephone and she was quick to return all our calls. We often felt like she was our own private realtor. We have never met a more attentive person to detail as Lindsay. We came into town a handful of times and she was always available to show us many homes during our search. She was understanding, extremely informative and always ten steps ahead of any possible hang-ups that often happen in home purchasing. Lindsay saved us thousands of dollars on our offer, subsequent negotiations and being present during inspections. She has a "can-do" attitude and is such a delight to work with. And even after the close of our home, she still remained beyond helpful as we hadn't moved to Charlotte yet. She came by our home to inspect the popcorn removal/interior painting that we hired out after our closing and even offered to help with a power issue to our HVAC when the painting company said it wasn't working. I couldn't fathom working with another Real-Estate Professional than Lindsay while in Charlotte. She is the best of the best and you will be glad you have her in your corner.

On May 12th I received a showing request from Reba Hatfield for 12:30 - 1:15 May 12th…read more I accepted the request and was out of town for the weekend. On May 13th at 1:05 pm I arrived at my home, opened garage door and saw my kitchen/garage door wide open. Attached is a picture I took before entering my home. I entered my home and searched for a business card from the agent... but could not find one. No card was left. The MLS on my home clearly states, (and normal procedure is) "to leave a business card" when showing a home. I called Showingtime to find out who entered my home. They said they could only provide her name and agency. No phone numbers. I googled the agent (Reba Hatfield) and called her immediately. This is my first complaint about Reba Hatfield. (no business card left and MLS says to leave one and standard real estate agent practice is to leave one.) I explained to Reba what happened and she immediately denied leaving the door open. She did not accept responsibility for her actions and its her responsibility to leave my home as secure as I left it. Reba did not apologize for leaving it open, just denied it with a rude attitude. This is my second complaint about Reba Hatfield. (Leaving my home unsecured after I let her show it to potential buyers.) I explained to Reba that it was 97 degrees out that day and my air conditioner had to run constantly to cool the home and garage during the previous 24 hours. It also let in Spiders, Flies and Mosquitos into my home for the 24 hours. I've been killing bugs for 2 days now and not enjoying mosquitos buzzing me while I am in the tub and flies bugging me while I'm trying to cook and eat. Since Reba denied her actions and offered nothing in regards to resolving the matter, I reached out to the Broker in Charge. Daniel Cottingham. Cottingham Chalk Hayes: 6846 Morrison Boulevard Charlotte, NC 28211 On Monday the 14th, I reached Daniel and explained what happened and asked for a respectful resolution within 24 hours. I explained my thoughts are my electric bill for 24 hours of constant running of air conditioner and something done with the bugs in my home. (Possibly spraying for bugs would be reasonable) Daniel said he would reach out to Reba, confirm and get back to me with a resolution. Daniel called me later that same day and offered an apology for what happened. Bug no apology from the agent Reba Hatfield is what seems odd to me. I asked him for more of a resolution. referring to the bugs in my home and strain on my AC / Electric bill. He said he would talk to Reba again and confirm with my Real Estate Agent (Shonda Newsome) After the 24 hour deadline, I called him, left a message and heard nothing back from him. (Nor did he contact my agent like he said he would) This is my complaint about Broker Dealer Daniel Cottingham. ( I feel it's his responsibility for his Agents actions. ) He is failing to go through with his promises and recognize this is not a laughing matter. Not returning calls or responding to any requests is not a good way to resolve any matter.

With all the online fraud, I wanted to make sure the house was as advertised online. The tenants were understanding and packing at the time. The owner and someone with CUR met with my coworker, let her take some pics, and eased my worries. The application process was quick and easy. We leased for 5 years. Each renewal period was done quickly and they worked with me and the owner over any concerns I had. They have a system online that is customer friendly. I paid each month online and could enter a maintenance request online. I could track the maintenance progress online. Some owners won't allow the property manager to hire anyone they want. Any delay was minor and not due to the realty company. I put in a request less than once a year. The office staff always answer the phone and were always polite to me. Fast forward to this year, I wanted to buy a home. They allowed me to propose purchasing the property to the owner. They were a wonderful property management company for us when we needed it. They went above and beyond and graciously hosted the closing for us! It's clear they care about their tenants and owners!

Positive experiences: I have been treated with politeness and patience each time I've called in or emailed the assistant community manager. Setting up an account and payment information is complex, but they have helped with every step. Negative experiences: My car was involved in a hit and run in the parking garage that Henderson theoretically should maintain and manage. Henderson contracts the management of the parking garage to another company. There are no cameras, which makes me feel really unsafe. The employees that I have spoken with have been nice, but that does not change that I have sustained thousands of dollars in damage to my vehicle in their building. The community manager came off unsympathetic and responded with an "I certainly understand that this incident is troublesome". Troublesome? I could have been seriously injured in the incident and now cannot even park in my own condo's facilities without feeling worried about being mugged or followed or hit again. The same week, the ceiling in a shared hallway between condo units leaked so badly, we had to contact emergency maintenance. Going through Henderson's Emergency maintenance line was a nightmare, myself and another resident were sent to voicemail and never got a callback. We had to contact a member of our HOA board to get help. Emergency maintenance didn't show up until 3-4 hours after we first frantically contacted the service, during which time the leak grew and got so much worse.

Flooring repairs were started at my rental, but the work was left incomplete after demolition. The kitchen sink, cabinets, and dishwasher were removed and portions of the flooring were taken down to the subfloor. The home was left in a partially unusable condition for over a month. Despite multiple phone calls and written requests, I still have not received any response from the property manager. Work is now being scheduled, but only after continued follow‑up, and there has still been little to no direct communication or accountability from management. If repairs are required, be prepared to advocate for yourself and document everything. Communication should not be this difficult when a rental is left without essential living facilities.
