When I arrived, I was confused - they had been open only 45 minutes, but they already had a wait for a repair. Concerned, I went to get a little coffee-and, returned in about 40 minutes, and they still hadn't gotten to my glasses. I was a little surprised, but I chose to wait. The technician [whose name I did not get] picked up my broken glasses after about 10-15 more minutes. Needless to say, the technician was EXCELLENT. Most places near DC where I live would have driven the screw, swiped a cloth at the lenses and called it a day. The technician: drove the screw to repair the glasses, replaced my nose pads, re-adjusted my frames back to how they originally fit, and sealed the screws with nail polish [probably common to others, but unheard of to me]... for NO charge! In fact, she refused my offer for payment, and told me to spread the word. So here I am, spreading it. EXEMPLARY customer service.

I don't mind paying the copay for the extra service. That aside, I saw Kristy Dean and she was very friendly, explained everything well and made sure to answer any questions I had. They do ask if you'd like to try the new lenses they offer. However, I didn't receive any backlash for opting out nor did Kristy try to continue pushing them after I opted out. It's important to add that I do buy my glasses online (it's far more cost efficient), so I can't speak to that end of things.

I should have taken it as a hint that appointments were so much easier to get here vs. Cortland Eye Center. I can't speak to how good that place is, but it can't be any worse than Sirgany. First, during my wife's exam, Dr. Sirgany said my wife's eyes had gotten slightly worse, yet the prescription we received showed a dramatic improvement in one eye. Hmm... After multiple attempts to brush away our concerns without listening to details and just saying "improvements happen sometimes," the staff FINALLY talked to the doctor, who admitted his mistake. I would have had no problem with this, as it was simply a 0 where a 1 should have been. Not an enormous deal. It was the multiple phone and in-person conversations with staff who were unwilling to even fathom a mistake had happened that were the bigger problem. Had I not been persistent, my wife would have ended up paying for glasses with the wrong prescription. We're not done yet, though! A couple weeks later we both received bills from their office for co-pays. That's weird... My insurance specifically says that a routine eye exam is fully covered. Well, because we both simply mentioned symptoms that either a) do not affect our vision or b) are incredibly common with no clear links to our vision, they submitted diagnostic codes for these "health issues" to my insurance company. This changed our appointments from a routine exam to a clinical/specialist visit, incurring a co-pay charge. There was no discussion from the doctor that this was happening either. The insurance company said all Sirgany had to do was submit a corrected claim with routine codes (like they should've done in the first place). They refused. I've always been open with my doctors during checkups, discussing potential problem areas, and I have never been charged a co-pay for routine visits. I guess we should've kept our mouths shut with the Sirgany office.

OMG I had been having electrical problems with my Audi. For almost 2 years I had no backup camera…read moreand no push start operation. While getting my stereo fixed on my VW I perchance had a discussion with Robert about my car's issues. He wanted to try to figure out the problems. Well it took several weeks getting used parts and hours of Robert's time digging deep into my car's electrical systems. He found all my issues and fixed them. My camera now works with- 3 PDC sensors and a Parking module, my proximity sensors work, and my push button start is doing what it should. Thank you Robert for all your hard work and due dilligence. Yeah!!!! If your car isn't acting like it should electrically call Robert he might be able to help. And he is great with audio systems.

TL;DR: For the really important stuff, trust these guys…read more Longer version: Was in Ithaca for a family memorial service; thus the ceramics and pottery we were shipping back to California had a great deal of value to us. How do you ship several pounds of bowls, ceramic art and sculptures? Could have used the Post Office, UPS Store, etc...and probably end up with a box of fragments when it arrived. Found Uncle Marty's on Yelp, and was encouraged by the reviews, so we drove the rental with a trunk full of ceramics there. Staff was very understanding, kind, and friendly. At the same time, while they were gentle on the items and very mindful of how to pack them, they were also very conscious of the cost implications, and worked through several different options to find the right number of boxes (and the right sizes) to ship off the items to two different locations (daughter in Chicago, us back in California). While it didn't end up being inexpensive (not Uncle Marty's fault...FedEx ain't never been the cheapest), I am pleased that every single item arrived perfectly packed, safe, and undamaged. I'm not sure if I'll ever find myself again needing to ship things from upstate New York, but if I do I know where I'll go.

I stopped here recently because I used to ship via DHL from my office, but campus is closed and I'm…read morenow not able to schedule a pick-up from the same location. I have a DHL account I've used for charging the cost of shipments; however, the person I spoke with at the front desk of Uncle Marty's while trying to ship out my parcel said that they have a specific retail export account number that all shipments get assigned to when being scheduled for pick-up... so they can't use alternative DHL accounts for charging shipments. When I offered to pay for the shipment with my procurement card, that seemed to be fine... until I inquired further about whether or not duties/fees could be charged to that same procurement card upon their arrival at the destination processing facility (I was shipping to Tanzania, and this is an easy process when shipping via your own DHL account). I've typically ensured our office - as the sender - makes payment on duties/fees for a parcel, at least within the last couple years (it expedites the delivery, and many international institutions in the developing world don't have the easily accessible means to pay for duties/fees on an item that's being provided to them as a donation). Since I wasn't able to ensure that duties/fees would be paid by me/my procurement card as the sender - and I couldn't use my own DHL account - I ended up leaving, parcel in-hand, without being able to get it processed and sent out via Uncle Marty's. I was also able to leave with a single plastic waybill packet, as well as a paper waybill... after specifically requesting both items (more than once). While DHL has certainly preferred folks go through their electronic scheduling system in recent years, that has proven to sometimes be problematic when shipping to certain parts of the world (given the need for indicating villages / areas that aren't especially known)... so I like to have a couple paper waybills handy, and I *HAVE* been able to ship out with paper waybills (i.e. without DHL rejecting the parcel because of a paper waybill) without issue. In the beginning of working from home back in March, I had gone to the Pack & Ship store that used to be on the corner of the Commons to ship out an identical parcel. There? No issues whatsoever (and yes, I used a paper waybill for that parcel). But that store is closed now, so I opted to try Uncle Marty's. Unfortunately, the process isn't as easy here as it was at the store on the Commons (which was so much easier because I was just able to use my DHL account number for any / all charges). TL;DR The explanation above probably includes more complicating factors than most shipments being sent out via Uncle Marty's, but it was my experience. The guy I spoke with at the desk was certainly friendly and answered my questions helpfully (hence the rating), but it's important to know the complicating factors of trying to use your own DHL account, etc.

My mother was verbally assaulted by an employee today. Before she even got the box out of the car an older white man, red faced, screamed at the top of his lungs "you can wait in line like everybody else". She got back in the car because she was so scared by him. She reparked and went inside to tell the manager because it was so upsetting. The mam followed her inside and stood next to her leaned forward and intimidating while she politely explained what happened to the manager. Then she left without donating. She came home shaking and crying. I'm furious that this happened and want the employee fired. He was a 65ish white male, blue shirt, blue shorts, working at the donations. I had a fantastic experience working with Thane on a big tailoring order a few weeks ago…read more I had 7 or so suits that needed various levels of adjustments, mostly simple stuff like shortening sleeves, hemming pants, and taking in the width on a few blazers. However, I also had one blazer that I purchased at an online tailor company that came out very wonky in the shoulders. Thane was able to perform surgery on it and perfectly fix the issues. He got everything done on a tight timeframe too, and put in extra work to get it all exact. Beyond that, he was a pleasure to chat with and very professional. The whole project came to a little over $1000, which I think was reasonable given the quantity and quality of work done. I especially don't think anyone else could have fixed the shoulders on that one blazer, so it effectively saved me the value of losing out on an entire suit jacket.
