They are the only local source I have been able to find that can regularly supply me with locally raised chickens that eat organic grain, native plants, and insects. Their birds actually move around in a large open space, hunting and pecking at bugs and local forage. (What a concept)! I stopped buying organic chicken from Costco and even Whole Foods after I did a little research about it. I discovered that Petaluma Farms, which supplies organic chicken to Whole Foods, boasts that their chickens have one square foot to live in, instead of the industry standard of 3/4 square foot per bird. Seriously? It's right on their website. I was paying $14 for a chicken that was living in a space a little bigger than a piece of copy paper for it's entire life. It is widely known that even though birds in these environments have "outdoor access", most of them never actually get out there because they're crammed together inside. I currently have a six-month chicken subscription with Rise and Shine that started in May. Every month, Mike, the owner, drives from Fallon to Reno and delivers three chickens to my door. I prepaid with Paypal, and I don't even have to leave my house. Last Fall, we preordered 25 birds and they were all delivered at once (they raise them specifically for you). We plan to do that again after our subscription ends. Last year, we also ordered a turkey for Thanksgiving and a goose for Christmas. (That was really cool; we had never had goose before.) Our family has completely gone local when it comes to buying meat, and we will never go back. All poultry comes from Rise and Shine and beef and lamb comes from Albaugh Farms. We're still looking for a local source for pork. Until then, we've essentially given it up. I highly recommend Rise and Shine Farms without hesitation.

The E. Center St. Farmers' Market in Fallon runs each Friday evening from 4:00-8:00 PM through the…read moreend of September. Only 2 more events and it's hasta la vista until next year. Located on Center and South Maine, it's very easy to find and there is plenty of parking downtown. Downtown businesses are also opened which can make for a pleasant evening event. Lattin Farms is always there with it's vegetables and fruits, jams and sauces. We picked up some gorgeous tomatoes for our Labor Day BBQ. A farmer from Sanger, CA was there with some sweet and delicious plums, nectarines, peaches, grapes and other fruits. I picked up some of those nectarines. They were so good! There were also vendors who made pastries, cookies, and pies. I was also intrigued by the vendors who make their own soaps, bath salts, vanilla extract, bamboo knotted grocery bags and cotton grocery bags. Got there late as folks were packing up, but just in time to get my food and enjoy what was left. If you get there early, you may catch local musicians, a larger crowd, and more sights and savory smells!

VERY VERY generous portions of vanilla or chocolate ice cream... my giant ice cream ( this was a pic of it almost finished cone). It was only $1.60 for a large and it was huge to share. Buy far the best deal on this trip and the most delicious... we will be stopping here again on future trips. If you stop here for fuel- get an ice cream! Thank you for keeping it affordable.

Got 3 of each chicken wing flavor from the deli - They were huge, I could not eat more than 5. It was also very messy, so I could not take any pictures of the wings themself, sorry. Starbucks = 5 stars - Free Ice. At times, the Starbucks in supermarkets charged for a cup of ice. Atmosphere - Consistent with the brand. With the exception of the GREAT service from Starbucks. Service - Good, both the deli person and cashier were good. Price - $10.14 for the wings - I thought that was pricey until I saw the size of each wing; worth it! Pre-made Turkey Wrap - Tasted pre-made and old. We should have gotten a fresh sandwich, but we were in a rush. I don't even know how much we paid for it. Owner Suggestion - Thanks for having a Safeway here, during our 7 hour drive from Las Vegas to Reno, we did not see many options for supermarkets.
