SUMMARY Visited here per recommendation from our hotel as we were visiting for our wedding anniversary. We went to get something small to eat and dropped by Chimayo's. Afterwards we visited the farmer's market and picked up two desserts. VENUE As mentioned, the market is small but they had about everything that a larger one would have too. Fresh veggies and fruit, crafts, ice cream, pies, and food. We dropped by one place called "Tahoe Pan Ice Cream" which is one of those places that serve poured cream and "scraped" ice cream in a cup. You might've seen this on travelogues on Youtube (popular in SE Asia) and yes, that's the style of scraped ice cream I'm talking about. It was quite good and in a shareable portion size just right for us. There was another shop we dropped by that sold homemade pies. We struck up a conversation with the owners who were long time residents of SLT. They were a nice couple, so we bought their one and only remaining Key Lime Pie. Sorry no pics because we gobbled that delicious pie like nobody's business that same night :) Overall if you're in the area during the summer, it's definitely a good stop if you're NOT looking for large crowds and away from the NLT "scene" near the casinos.

As someone who visits farmers' markets often when traveling and frequents my local market in Carson City, I am always looking for great new markets to check out. Ski Run Farmers Market was great, but I would describe it as more of a craft fair than a farmers' market. I forgot to snap photos, but the setup they have works well. It's set up as two long strips of vendors on either side of the street. I like the setup, and it allowed for smooth foot traffic. While there are a few farm stands from CA and a handful of food vendors, the bulk of this market is artisan crafts, jewelry, and clothing. This is something to keep in mind if you're visiting this market and expecting a huge selection of fresh food. The vibes here were still great, with two live music booths and great Tahoe weather. All of the vendors I interacted with were super friendly. Worth checking out if you are in South Lake Tahoe on a Wednesday night!

I think I need to update my review from 14 years ago!!!!…read more I stand by my original post: How wonderful to have a real grocery store that specializes in local and organic products. Much of the produce is locally grown, or locally adjacent (AKA California) OK, Bananas do not grow in the Great Basin. The origin of the produce is identified. They work with local farmers, bakeries, and other local businesses for the food and non-food items. They no longer have the upstairs restaurant but they do have a kitchen and make ready to go items. I love picking up a fresh salad (some with meat some purely vegan/vegetarian) , a yummy very generously filled wrap, house made cookies and other delectable treats. They have a large selection of locally produced meats. Lots of organic canned goods, dairy and non-dairy items . . . the list goes on. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. Memberships are available (20$/year) with a once a month 10% off of your total purchase. You do NOT need a membership to shop here. It's small and a bit cramped but there is a lot of good stuff there. It's clean and friendly and completely locally owned.

So when lunch break came around I knew exactly where I was headed, Great Basin Co-op! I enjoyed a nice brisk walk in an autumn filled day. When I entered the store I was warming greeted by staff and by an organic clean smell. I really wanted their fresh spring rolls but they did not have those that day so I chose fresh rolled salmon made with wild caught salmon. It did not disappoint! Will I be back? Absolutely! So much fresh and organic choices! They also have plenty of seating indoor or outdoor. Thanks Great Basin Co-op!
