The small wine tasting building is open Saturdays & Sundays from Noon to 5:00 p.m. For $10, you can taste 5 wines. The wine steward was generally educational and helpful describing each pour. We sat outside at a small table to enjoy the breeze. There were four of us in our party that day and Heisen House was the only winery where none of us bought any bottles. The old barn (built by Alexander Heisen over 120 years ago) and Victorian-style home (built by Henry Heisen in 1898) are visible from the wine tasting area. There is great potential for the Winery to utilize those buildings and it was reported that restoration work is underway. Heisen House Vineyards makes a variety of wines and is worthy of annual visits to see if the wines or experience have improved. Since it is just 40-minutes from Portland and near Battle Ground Lake there are plenty of reasons to include it in a circuit of Clark County wineries.

This was the exact opposite feeling. Really a lovely experience!) Lynda was THE best at sharing about the grapes and the process and the wines, as she gave us VERY generous pours. She created a warm atmosphere and strangers standing around tasting began talking with each other. I was absolutely pleasantly surprised with the Merlot and did not expect to love it so much. We ended up buying a bottle of the Pinot noir that I am very excited to share. It was light and really easy to drink. I'm not a wine connoisseur, so my language for wines is not professional. But what I can tell you is that you will not be disappointed if you come. Their pallet of wine profiles is extensive and you will find something that you will be so glad you tried. All of the above is subject to change on a weekly basis, of course. They also offer snacks, also on a rotating basis. Very highly recommended, it's a great way to kill most of an hour if you happen to be on the waterfront and want to do something a little different. They are in a cluster with three other tasting rooms, so you can compare and contrast. Occasionally, there are promotions, where if you visit some number of them there is some kind of reward. I have been a fan of Dolio for sometime. When I first encountered the winery several years ago, I…read morewas skeptical. A winery? In Battle Ground? Producing Italian wines? I mean when everyone in the area is beating themselves silly trying to breed these Pinot noir... This is different. And that's "different" in a ** very good** way Don is a retired technology executive who decided to pursue winemaking. Unlike many of his peers who have done so with disastrous results, everything there is eminently drinkable. And in the last couple of years, his wife, Pam has started producing extremely high-quality chocolates. My most recent trip involved a tasting flight described in their email newsletter (highly recommended). My partner and I headed out for a casual afternoon and wound up sitting under the gazebo on the patio, surrounded by wind chimes, and light breeze. Having ordered inside before seating ourselves, Don brought us a double flight, and shortly there after Pam brought us a sampler of the chocolates. I wasn't expecting table side service, and was quite glad to have had it. After dropping the chocolates, Pam stayed for a delightful and extended conversation, and wish we discussed the upcoming night time event for the Perseid meteor showers, and other stargazing events (Don has become quite the astrophotographer, and loves to share his knowledge and enthusiasm) The real purpose of the visit was the 2014 GRÜNER VELTLINER which is described as "a white for people that like to drink reds". In my book this is one of those "buy it if they have it" bottles, and I might've accumulated more than I planned. The other wines on this flight were also delightful, I was quite familiar with two of them -- the Dolcetto and the Sangiovese -- but was pleased to make the acquaintance of the others. Not on this flight, but very highly recommended: their Groovy Rose -- a very, nearly perfect light fun summer wine for sipping on the patio or at barbecues The chocolates were also very nice. I normally do not like caramel, but the handcrafted caramel in these was smooth and buttery, and delicious.
