I swear he will present himself proudly to me after a visit there saying through his eyes "look how handsome I look!" But so much more than that, the owner and her staff are angels on earth. They love on him so good - so much so that they are all part of our family. We made the tough choice today to say goodbye to our old man - 22 years old! We brought him to the Soapy Dog to say goodbye to his fan club. And all of them cried with us and comforted us and loved on him for the final time. They are a remarkable group of people and I would recommend their services (and friendship) to anyone.

When I called to make an appointment I was told that there was no availability for about a month. About a week prior to my appointment an employee called and said they had a cancellation so I was able to get my dog's haircut sooner. A day or two before my originally scheduled appointment I received a text notification reminder in reference to my initial appointment. I left a message stating I had already came and did not get anymore notifications about that appointment. The business is small and located downtown Knightdale. There is street parking in front of the business. Two chairs were located near the front counter and front door to sit and do paperwork. There are several pictures of dogs on the wall and there is a room located behind the front counter where the animals are groomed. When I arrived I checked in and had to fill out paperwork for my dog. I was also asked if it was ok to give my dog a treat. I was advised that for the appointment it would take 4 hours. When I dropped my dog off Johnell advised me that it would be longer. I was called approximately 4.5 hours after I dropped my dog off. Johnell asked me what type of cut I wanted and did a good job grooming my dog. When I went to pay I was charged extra because I was told that my dog moved a lot during the appointment.

I was one of them I went to them for 3 years, only missed one appointment. I paid whatever price they charged me, never missed a payment or gave issues that I was told about. Then got let go and have never been invited back. But I've seen others go and they are in full operation... for white clients.

This will be a bit long. Here's the short version: Six Forks Animal Hospital is too busy. They are…read moreso busy that I believe the level of care they can provide is negatively affected. If you want the best level of care for your pet, go elsewhere. Now for the long version: I had been bringing one of my dogs to Six Forks Animal Hospital for years after having a bad experience at Banfield. My negative experiences started after my dog had an allergic reaction to some fleas he got from a new puppy member of the family. We were prescribed corticosteroids and the sores from the allergic reaction cleared; all was well. Unfortunately the skin sores came back months later and again we were given corticosteroids alongside antibiotics to treat a possible skin infection. Skin cleared up and months later the sores returned. Our dog had bouts of skin sores for years that we continued to battle with the same treatment that didn't seem to be working. Eventually I did some research into corticosteroids and I learned about how terrible the side effects can be; Particularly for long term treatment of illness. I LEARNED THAT CORTICOSTEROIDS CAN MAKE YOUR DOG MORE PRONE TO COMMON BACTERIAL INFECTIONS! After learning this I began to refuse all steroids from Six Forks Animal Hospital. It took years for my dog's hormones to recover but eventually the skin infections stopped. I learned about alternative treatment methods for his skin that worked much better and were much less harmful. Keep in mind that a vet's job is to offer the best level of care possible. I had to spend my own time to learn of a more optimal treatment plan for my dog. Had I not done that, my dog may have continued to deteriorate as corticosteroids can cause a wide range of chronic health conditions such as diabetes (his blood sugar began to rise!), osteoarthritis (he began having trouble using stairs), hearing problems (he eventually went deaf)! The final straw for me was when I brought my young boxer in for some feet allergies. I very clearly and bluntly told the staff that I did not want any kind of steroids to be used for his treatment. During COVID I am not allowed to be present while the vet is providing care to my dog. The front desk called me and told me that I will be billed for a Cytopoint shot (yes, this is what I wanted) AND A KENELOG INJECTION (Kenelog is another corticosteroid!!). I was furious. The staff are obviously not communicating and the vet is obviously not reading my dog's chart fully. I will not be bringing any of my pets to Six Forks Animal Hospital again and I will share my opinions with my friends and family when they are making decisions for their pets. Be careful out there folks. Care for your furry friends and never trust a vet to do their best.

They have been so professional, fit us in when we needed dog care, made sure our puppy was up to date on all shots and have been very thorough. We really liked that dogs over a year old need to be altered, our dog has had issues with some aggressive dogs bullying him and he's too sweet to defend himself. Hopefully, the altered pups might lessen that. We also really liked that they match temperaments and make sure personalities fit in each dog run. Did I mention that I received a text during the day on how my dog was doing? How great is that?! And, this evening, I received an email containing my pupper's report card! Paws at Play let me know how his temperament was today, what he did, who he played with, and the name of the employee who watched over him. Plus, I received about 10 photos of him - showing how much fun he had! Experience was so positive we've already booked another day!
