Best Chinese buffet in Iowa. When visiting Burlington you definitely want to give this on a visit.

Review Visit: July 11th, 2016…read more Situated on the border of Iowa and Illinois sits the Casino/Hotel/Spa that is known as Catfish Bend. It offers a small, but quaint casino that is lucky to have a Smoking/Non-Smoking section, based on your tobacco needs. There is a bar in the center of the casino that serves $1 bottles on Mondays (based on my experience) after 4pm. Nearby is Fun City, so if you are up here on a family vacation, you can have fun with the kids all day at Fun City and then pop over to Catfish Bend for some adult entertainment.

The new management cared about only one thing. Moving their people in. Hundreds of employees were fired or encouraged to quit. If you want to go and have a good time at fun-city it is amazing if you have kids or even as an adult. Quite a lot of activities and food and games. If you want to lose some money the gaming floor is great if you don't mind a ton of smoke in your face as they even allow it at the tables. I recommend avoiding Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday night in case you worry about a drunk spilling a beer on you. If you want some food the property offers a lot of options and I ate at all of them during my time there. Very good food. If you want to support a business that takes care of and respects their employees? I wouldn't go to Great River Casino.

My only real baseline for comparison in this area is Happy Joes, and I was expecting the buffet price to be about the same price. I was surprised to see the price at around $16 plus expected tip starting at $5? and up. HJ is somewhere around $10 with the option of tipping what you want. I didn't see an option to choose a tip but maybe I missed it. In any case there didn't seem to be a lot of tippable things going on during my visit? Get your own food, sit down, and leave when done, so maybe its the dish clean up that happens later? The tipping is a whole separate debate of its own, so on to the food. I started with the salad bar and got some lettuce without really looking closely. Some olives on top, and then some cole slaw and macaroni salad. I then went to the pizza area and got a slice of what I thought was a margherita pizza, and one that looked like hamburger or sausage? The chicken looked really over cooked and I didn't really want a big piece so i chose a wing. Later on my 'go back' I got a piece of what I thought was sausage pizza but turned out to be chicken bacon ranch, along with another piece of what I think was the hamburger or sausage, since nothing new was brought out in the span of time I was there. I got a mountain dew with ice and found a spot to sit. It seems like the music is more toward country which isn't everyone's cup of tea so maybe diversifying that might appeal to a wider cross section of customers. Bathrooms are very clean. The left sink is motion activated and triggers simply by moving in the room. The paper towel dispenser is hard to trigger and gives you about a 4 inch wide, very thin towel that doesn't get your hands dry, so be prepared to fiddle around with it or have semi-wet hands. I must say the Diet Mtn Dew had a twang I couldn't really put my finger on. I would urge the staff to try their fountain pop, and then try the fountain pop at other restaurants along Roosevelt. I believe there is a noticeable difference, and I realize this is subjective, but there is a lack of freshness or maybe cleanliness of the machine going on? Again, a side by side from other restaurants might be a good way to compare if Pizza Ranch is looking for suggestions. Back to the lettuce, there wasn't a lot in the bowl I got mine from, but what I did get consisted mostly of the harder white parts of the leaves you find down toward the base of the head, along with the more yellow pieces that are likely found near the center of the head. There was one piece I think was the core. Aside from the bitterness of some of this, lettuce is kind of just lettuce one way or the other. I did not see any brown spots which was a plus. The coleslaw and macaroni salad was kind of mid, to me on coleslaw there are some like KFC that have the kind of taste that makes you want more, but both of these left me kind of like 'it's food'. The olives seemed like they were a little rubbery and seem like what you would expect from canned olives. I realize we don't live in the Mediterranean so that is what it is. The overall feeling I had on the salad bar was that it had been sitting and I was getting what was left after a lot of other people went before me. I looked when I left and didn't notice anything new or added since I got there. Pizza: What I am calling the margherita pizza sort of looked like one but had a white sauce that threw me off. The toppings on this came off in one piece, which i think is due to the pizza being cooked hot enough to firm up the toppings a little too much while the sauce below stayed liquid enough that the toppings slid off. My main thing was the pizza had the look of a conventional red sauce pizza but turned out to be something else that I am not in to (white sauce pizzas). The sausage type pizza was a standard type pizza but reminded me of convenience store pizza that has been sitting for some time. I ended up going back and got another piece of that because there just wasn't anything else to choose from except for the piece I thought was another sausage but turned out to be chicken bacon ranch. The chicken bacon ranch was just off to me in a weird way. I can and have been brought up to eat about anything/clean up my plate but my brain just sent the signal "this is not good, just don't eat it" on this one. There seemed to be something about it that just wasn't correct. So I stopped after one bite there. The sausage pizza was the main thing I ate during this visit, and was the pace setter for everything else which I must say is not a compliment. Chicken: This is what turned this trip to sub average to just plain bad for me. The wing was dry but OK so i thought a chicken leg could save the meal. I bit into it and the meat was completely RED all the way through! OMG!

In fifty-five years of flying, I have smelled enough jet fuel, 100 LL, and burnt coffee. Enough to see too many things change, but not on this day and this trip. Indeed, I'd dined at the Packinghouse back in 1986. They've been open since 1978, and I recognized it immediately. Then, as now, the place looks the same and the food was remarkable. My co-star and I sampled the inviting salad bar, and he opted for the broiled steak covered in mushrooms. I had the shrimp scampi, which was spectacular and enough for two normal people. Our only disappointment was that the highly touted bread pudding had been exhausted. Hence, we settled our stomachs on the chocolate lava conflagration that helped put things into perspective. The ambiance was an interesting mix of nostalgia and packing plant apparatus. Being a vegetarian, I wasn't offended by what happened there since 1912. The still-active railroad station is just across the street, which made sense for the building's original purpose. Our server was a local historian who enhanced our visit with her perspectives. Yes, the HOJO where I stayed in 1986 is long gone, but the Packinghouse is still doing what it does best. I must also mention that downtown Galesburg is an inviting anachronism reflecting the old America that I grew up with. There are interesting stores and other attractions. Galesburg is also home to Knox College, and was the venue for one of the Lincoln-Douglas debates back when debates were really debates and not Kabuki Dances.

Prime rib? about a 1/4 thick and well done, no matter how you ordered it. The cinnamon bread? Overcooked and burnt. The salad bar had wilted lettuce and was just sad overall. The side salads were actually better and we should have all just had that for dinner!! The service was amazingly slow. Like 45-60 minutes to get our meals when the restaurant was not that busy. My husband even spoke with the manager to tell them that it was just an awful meal. If you read the reviews over the last year, this is obviously a problem but they haven't fixed anything, so obviously they don't care. I would recommend finding another restaurant and not coming here.

My husband and I visited Crazy Buffet (aka Panda Buffet) in Galesburg, Illinois on a Sunday night,…read morearound 7 pm, in late Sept, 2024. The restaurant was scheduled to close at 9 pm; the rest of the neighborhood was already quite sleepy. All of the food that both my husband and I ate was quite tasty, including Asian buffet favorites such as Pepper Chicken; Mongolian beef; crab Rangoon; California sushi; and far more. They also offered some unique and tasty items, such as fried zucchini slices. They also had tubs of creamy and yummy ice cream for dessert. We rate the quality of the food that we ate as 4.5/5.0. However, by 7 pm, the restaurant was already winding down and many of the food trays were already near empty and weren't being replenished so there were many food offerings that we didn't get the chance to try. Our rating for variety is thus only 2/5. Service was okay (3/5). The waitress brought us our requested waters, and checked in once to see if everything was okay. The overall ambiance was of a typical Chinese buffet restaurant, and was maintained well. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. However, staff started to wind down the day at 8 pm, including mopping the floors of the main buffet area, the check-out counter, and restrooms while we were still eating and needing to walk in those areas! It was an hour to closing time! Finally, the restaurant was a good value for all-you-can-eat for $12.99/person at dinner, before tax and tip. We would return but probably earlier in the day to have full access to the variety of food choices and to ensure that we didn't interfere with the cleaning at closing.

We decided to come by today after we traveled to Galesburg, but unfortunately a disability I have kicked in upon arrival and I got sick. I didn't eat a single bite of food at the restaurant, I got a soda while the rest of my family got full meals. Well, my dad called the waitress over near the end of everyone else eating to say that I hadn't eaten a single bite; the waitress replied very rudely telling us we were at fault for not telling them I wasn't going to eat before we checked in to the restaurant. Legitimately, I got to the table with my family, didn't sit down, and immediately went to the bathroom and got sick. When she told us we would get charged for my non-meal, my dad responded by saying we'd pay it and we didn't want to argue. She continued multiple times telling us to basically kick rocks. After around ten minutes of my family finishing their meals and deciding the food wasn't worth the treatment, another waitress comes by and takes my "meal" off the ticket, saying something along the lines of "We didn't want to, but management said to not charge you" I didn't have any food, but besides this experience with the staff my family members said the food wasn't nearly as good as it has been years prior. My dad and my partner are usually ones to get multiple plates, but they both only got one and didn't even finish what they got. My dad said there's no way he'd drive as long as we did to have this again, when in the past we would make the trip SPECIFICALLY for this buffet. Nothing else, just for this place. This was a really disappointing experience, and it very much gave "money hungry" vibes. I'd get charging me if I'd eaten ANYTHING. I didn't have a single bite. I hope this was a one-off experience and the staff doesn't act this way with other, worse off customers.
