We were visiting the in laws and we all decided to visit this location. The location is easy to find and its near the river. Parking seems to be no issue since we parked in the front before prime time dinner. And it seems like there is a big lot in the park and even a garage nearby. Inside, the location was a little dark. The menu is very big with a lot of things that will please anyone. My only small issue is that there is no description of the food. Luckily, our waitress was happy to explain things but we didn't want to waste her time. For example...there are two duck salads so what is the difference? What are Hooter fries? The owner also posted a lot of pictures on Yelp of the food, but there is no description. I was able to figure out what the Hot Roast sandwich looked like because the photo makes it look amazing. It was too tough to cut with a table knife and they didn't provide a sharper knife. We had to ask for steak knifes and waited 5-10 minutes to get the knifes before we could start eating the brisket. Went for lunch, it was not very crowded and we were met and seated. Got a booth, my side was comfortable, my co worker complained that there was a split board or something in his seat. I dont think it was too bad as he didnt mention anything after that. Price wise, you are looking at $12 to 20+ for lunch depending on what you are looking for. The drake specializes in bbq type items, and they used to have duck and similar game-type items which is where i think the name of the restaurant came from. When you go by there is usually a smokey smell coming out. I got the chicken hoagie that has buffalo chicken and peppers, onions etc. I probably would have gone for a burger but didnt see a lot of options other than the angus which seemed pretty high. I went with baked beans and blue cheese dressing. The wait for the food seems normal for a sit down place. Waitress was very friendly and attentive. The blue cheese dressing was the bomb. Big chunks of cheese, which couldnt have been out of a bottle thats for sure. Beans were good and sandwich was fresh and good. The only thing i would critique is the chicken could have been a little crispier, but when the chicken is in buffalo sauce, that is going to reduce the crispiness automatically so kind of the nature of the beast. If they could maybe get the price down a little and incorporate some more burger options, that might be a way to pump up business a little more. Went with a larger group on a Saturday Night, was seated outside. Was PERFECT night. Food was good, environment was great. We were told by the manager upon seating that the server was very new, but she did a great job!!. They had some other large groups there that night as well, so food was a little slow in coming out, but was well worth the wait. I would recommend this place to anyone individually or in groups. The Drake was the first restaurant we saw in Burlington. The crowd was thin after lunch on a Tuesday and we were seated with a minimum wait. Drinks were brought early but we waited over 45 minutes for lunch. The child's pizza and the adult pizza were exactly the same size. Child's pizza meal was more expensive than adult pizza due to drink included. The ribeye steak was $36 for a less than half inch steak over cooked. It was terrible. The tenderloin was good - only 4 steak fry wedges. No drink refill offered but waitress was kind. We did discuss our displeasure with the kid/adult pizza with the waitress. Food...I had the bbq sampler platterI wanted some leftovers. Second disappointment . Everything was dried out. Smothering it in sauce isn't going to help. Beans and coleslaw were the sides also not great. They did take it off our bill. Soooo, Shouldn't EVER have to pay for bad food. Their customers service is excellent. My hubby ordered the pot roast. It was pretty good. He said the green beans were over done. Side salad was fair. Great service and delicious food! We stopped by on a Friday around noon and were seated right away. Large group welcome, a huge sprawling restaurant. We got a nice booth by the window looking out at the river and train. Food was good. We had a couple grilled chicken sandwiches with Mac & Cheese (super good!). Stopped in for a late lunch while in town for a couple of days. Food was delicious, amazing views on the riverfront. We dined inside, but the patio looks spectacular also, with outdoor dining tables and bar stools around the covered, outdoor bar area. I had the flat bread fish taco and my husband had the grilled Mac n cheese brisket sandwich, with also looked like it tasted amazing. Our server, Kam, worked her tables with skilled friendliness and attentiveness. Unfortunately this was one of the worst meals I've had. I wasn't expecting much but the Drake still let me down. I ordered the Parmesan crusted Grouper sandwich. Frozen fish filet on bread with no tomatoes, no lettuce, no sauce. Just fish and bread. Accompanied by frozen French fries and a young waitress that rarely came around equaled a poor experience. The broccoli was good but one piece was overcooked and not edible. The soup was their home made version and a lot of shredded chicken and full of flavor. Worst experience ever. Which is very unfortunate, because this restaurant is in a prime location with a beautiful outdoor patio, right on the Mississippi River. There are no descriptions of the menu items, so I had a few questions to ask. I was interested in the shrimp scampi, but some restaurants add tomatoes so I Double checked to make sure that it was just garlic butter and pasta with shrimp. She assured me it was. My dining companion ordered the $40 filet and they charge an extra dollar for broccoli - which is ridiculous since you're paying $40 (market price) for a piece of meat. My other dining companion ordered the walleye with almonds (which was like a small round blob of what I'm assuming was the "almond sauce". She scraped it off). When my pasta came out, it WAS pasta with shrimp, but it was fettuccine Alfredo, not garlic butter sauce! I didn't say anything right away because honestly, the flies and gnats were so nasty that immediately we just wanted to pack up everything and go eat in the car. After about 5 more minutes, we decided to get to-go containers. Gnats were landing and sticking on the walleye! And that's when I asked the server, "if this is shrimp scampi, what does the fettuccine Alfredo look like?" She said it looks a little bit different. So she called some guy over and he didn't care either. I told him there was no garlic butter -that it was definitely Alfredo sauce. He said, "well unless I taste it, I have to believe you". I don't understand how I can order shrimp scampi ($20) and get fettuccine Alfredo ($13). The price difference is $7.00!!! Although it was tasty, I should have been charged for fettuccine Alfredo - NOT the more expensive Shrimp Scampi! In the end, they did NOTHING to compensate me for THEIR error, so I ended up paying $20 for some thing I didn't even order. Absolutely NO customer service! We will never go back!!! If you want to have drinks on a lovely patio, go for it! But do not order the food! read more

This place used to be amazing, but it has gone down hill the past few times I've been here. Went here with my Dad this weekend and everything was just okay, accept for the $9 app. When I was growing up as a teen in the early to mid 2000's, I used to come here and the barbecue burnt ends and brisket weer amazing, now they are more fat than meat. The meat is still good, but it is becoming a little fatties and not worth the money. My Dad (who got the Reuben) said it was good though. We got the app (again $9?!) for a plate (about 10 to 12 Small pieces) of duck fritters with the jalapeño raspberry sauce. The sauce was great, sweet with a small kick, but nothing too strong. Service was okay. Waitress had a bit of an attitude, but she looked really tired and as if she was being overwhelmed. Late Saturday dinner. The server was friendly, but seemed to be new. Ordered the classic martini with a lemon twist. It came out without the lemon, and asked to have it added. First mistake. The lemon "twist" had more white pith than I've ever seen in a martini. Ordered the 16 oz ribeye medium-rare with broccoli and a salad. The salad was wilted, doused it in dressing. When the steak came out, I cut into and it was done to a very acceptable medium-rare. As I started to cut into it, noticed it was rather tough with lots of gristle and inedible fat. The broccoli was okay, but a bit overcooked and soft. I ate about half the steak, but was not willing to finish it as it did not get better in the thicker part of the steak. Server asked if I wanted to take it home. Declined and voiced my concerns to her. She offered to have it cooked more (?) which would not have improved it. She left for a few minutes, and came back to ask again, and I said I did not want to take it. She did offer an apology that it was not to my liking, but nothing else. That definitely was not a $36+ piece of meat. As a side note; the cloth napkin felt greasy. It seems The Drake has been declining over the last few visits. read more

We sat outside in the summer heat because the view was decent. We could see the river beyond the highway, plus the bridge and some downtown buildings too. Not picturesque but quaint and pleasant. Everything else was a disaster. Let me explain... There were many empty tables but the waitress seated us at one of the worst choices - for her convenience I'm guessing. She never asked us if we wanted shade or sun or wanted to be near the bar etc. Nothing on the menu for a vegetarian. So I ordered a large Cesar salad without the meat options. I asked if they could put some tofu on it and charge me extra. The waitress "we have no tofu" and made no attempt to find a solution for me. So I paid $13 for an undersized, mediocre salad that consisted of lettuce, croutons and grated cheese. My friend gave me some of the vegetables that came as a side dish for her seafood dish and they were likewise mediocre tasting. Lastly, the housefly's were absolutely horrific! At one point there were 30 fly's sitting on our table with more flying around. I had to keep a steady wave going to keep them off my food. I checked and they were on other tables too. I came to this place on Friday (7/21) and it was pretty average. I will say the atmosphere is amazing! The atmosphere gives this place life with the river right there to see while you eat. I ordered the Elk Burger and it was pretty good. A solid (7.5/10). I ordered medium rare, but it was a little on the dryer side. Still enjoyable! I also got the Drake fries with it, which is just long pieces of the potato seasoned and baked, and they were good. The service was horrendous. That is the main fault of this place. Maybe it was because they are so busy on Fridays, but in my experience of that one visit I did not enjoy the service even the slightest. read more
