From the NP to the doctors, I have always been treated well. They listen when I describe the issue/problem, and make appropriate recommendations. They are great! Until you actually have a medical crisis. They claim to have an urgent care center, but if you try to go there, they tell you to go to the hospital ER. They would rather you go to the ER during the rising pandemic... I digress. Do the other things they want me to do. Nope, not good enough. Treated like a malingerer, no sympathy or offer to help. Just - "You faker! You took ONE WHOLE MG instead the .5 you were prescribed! You disobeyed my instructions! Of course you ran out early! No, you can't refill your prescription four days early, and no, we will not discuss why .5 once a day seems to not be sufficient (even though the general dosage is 1mg twice a day, or .5mg twice a day) or why a nurse practitioner said this prescription wasn't even therapeutic, you can't have any more, just go suffer. "And let's sign a contract that I will prescribe and you will take it as prescribed." Like I am a teenager signing a drinking contract with my mom. Get out here. That's what the instructions on the bottle are. So, if the lowest dose of .5mg doesn't help I just have to suffer until...I can reach you and get an appointment so you can say - no, you can't take a whole mg? Even though everywhere says 1 mg is appropriate. Do they like to see people suffer, or is Ritvo on some power trip that she would deny medication to someone suffering as punishment because they disobeyed her orders? Under the guise of "safety." When you are prescribing under the recommended dose and your patient is suffering AND running out early, you just...do nothing. What is this some sort of test: Will patient suffer at the alter of my instructions, rather than defy them? Reach out for help. But not here! They just make up whatever they want and don't care about helping patients. read more

Start my saying I like and respect my doctor, Dr. Barker. However, I've sat in there waiting room for over an hour. My appointment was at 4:30, I showed up at 4. Waited until 5 then I left. This is not the first nor the second time. I've tried to be the first appointment, only to have people show up late. I've tried showing up early or right on time. It doesn't matter. As a fellow healthcare professional time management is important. If I set an appointment for a patient and was an half hour late, I would be written up and rightly so. read more

After waiting on the phone for 15 minutes to schedule a new appointment, the woman answered almost like I was an inconvenience to her. I had received a referral from my primary care doctor due to very sensitive matter. I asked her if I was able to schedule an appointment and that I was a new patient. Before I could finish my question she rudely stated that they were not accepting new patients. I'm not the type to complain, but that behavior is not necessary. I have been a patient at Swampscott Family Doctors for several years. I have received excellent care across the board from my primary care physician and all other medical staff. This rating is ONLY FOR NURSE WENDY not the nurse practitioner. She is a brusque, lazy and rude. This has happened with the 3 interactions I have had with her! So done with this place after about nine years of coming here. The practice has grown too big, too impersonal, and also too insensitive as a result. Nurses and doctors are not communicating well amongst themselves as they communicate with patients, hence the quality of care of loyal patients who have come consistently over the years has dropped significantly. I am transferring my medical records over as soon as possible, as they have no value here to anyone who is attempting to treat me. And, I am super healthy overall! I am thankful to have learned this now, instead of when sick! They treat you like a number now, like cattle, no additional value added. AWFUL!!! This place is awful. RUDE front desk, LONG waits, and completely unprofessional staff from the nurses to the PCPs. I once waited an hour past my scheduled time to see my doctor with a 102 fever and while in the room I heard Dr Witts in the hallway making small talk with the nurses about what she was cooking for dinner that night. The Dr. didn't care that I was sick and had been waiting over an hour she acted like even the 5 minutes she spent with me was a gift and I should be grateful. I dealt with this place mostly because of location but I will never step foot in there after my latest experience where I was signed in told to sit in the waiting room and then after 30 minutes of waiting I was told Dr. Witts had "just left". The front desk lied to my face they messed up my reschedule appointment and really didn't seem to care at all. I am leaving to go to another practice where I am treated like a human not someone less then them that's NEEDS them so bad they can treat me however they please. I've been a patient since 2007 and have decided to move on to a new practice after recent events. The service in this clinic has always been mediocre; long waits and inattentive personnel when calling for care for appointments. But I had no issues with the primary care physician I had, who recently left their practice. What has prompted me to leave this practice is the other day I was feeling extremely ill and wanted to see if I could be seen by a doctor to get a diagnosis. When I called the front desk instead of referring me to a medical professional, they instead transferred me to the billing department over an outstanding deductable co-payment. I was apalled, as it was just a small bill and I've never had financial issues with this practice. To top it off, when I tell the billing lady that I am having tachycardia and I'm not sure if I should go to the emergency room, she deferred the conversation to a stupid bill. I was so upset that I hanged up and went to the ER to be seen for my symptoms instead. So if you're feeling ill, you might as well call 911 or go to the ER if you owe this practice any money. This clinic is useless in attempting to provide suitable medical care. I would never refer anyone to family doctors in Swampscott, unless they want questionable care. Long wait times (every time - at least 30 minutes past my scheduled time), as attested by the never empty waiting room. The receptionists are not friendly, but they get their job done. Once your wait is over, you often have to wait another 10 minutes before your actual doctor comes along (nurse practitioner puts you in the room and just leaves). My negative experiences here: 1) For my annual check up, had not one, not two but THREE nurses try to take my blood. They ended up sticking the needle in my left arm 3x (in the crease by the elbow), my right arm 2x and finally my hand. And guess what? Because they started with new canisters when they changed, they could only fill to about half the canisters. Since the volume wasn't enough to test on, they decided NOT to test the blood. So essentially, I sat around being poked at for 30 minutes by three nurses to have them say, "Oh nevermind". 2) Aside from the above incompetence, I have to say that the nurses are the nicest people in this place. My own PCP is very brusque and cold and shrugs my worries off like I'm a hypochondriac - I went in for possible anemia (and it turned out I was after a blood test ELSEWHERE) but he acted as though I was just looking for medical attention. My doctor is very nice and understanding, and fortunately I don't have the same bad experiences others have reported about the front desk and other staff being rude. I work in a medical office myself, and I know that even when you have a day scheduled so as not to get behind, sometimes complicated patients totally disrupt your flow. That being said, the only reason I did not offer a 5 star review is because I consistently go in for my appointments much later than they are booked, and no one offers any excuse. In my office we will often poke or heads in and offer the family to reschedule or see another provider after we've apologized on behalf of the provider who is running behind. If the MA's/flow management were a little more organized I would give this office 5 stars. My doctor herself definitely gets an A+! read more

i have been going there about 25 years and over this time between myself and the insurance company we paid them over $40,000.00. on my last visit i offered to pay my co pay and i was told is a follow up and there is no pay, a month later i got a letter saying i owed my co pay so i called the family doctor and i asked about this co pay and i was told pay it on your next visit and i said ok. yesterday i got a letter from a collection agency for a lousy 50. shame on family doctor and there dishonest practice. read more

We went there as a family since this place accepts the insurance of our Aupair, with an intent to make this our go-to-family doctor (this would make 6 new patients for the practice) - not happening!! I called in advance we would be coming as a group of 5 people (2 adults, 3 toddlers), all very sick. Was advised to come same day during "walk in practice" between 5pm and 6pm. When we got there at 5:15pm the front staff basically refused medical care - there is NO TIME TO SEE YOU ALL, if anybody else walks in (after us!!!) then we will have even less slots.... (WHY would you prioritize a later arriving patient at walk in time????) ....WHAT all 5 of you need treatment?...cant you got to the other urgent care place down the road.... you called earlier??? - who did you speak to (why is that important and who else would it be other then the front desk staff sitting right there in front of me asking me this ????) Nobody really cared that we were sick, no compassion not even for my sweet little toddlers of 2 and 3 years. Dr Lisa Ceplikas finally saw all 5 of us. With a suspicion of the flu (the front desk staff had made us all wear face masks!) NO tests were done (no samples taken, NO test for strep throat etc), only measure of blood pressure, oxygen saturation and temperature. Not even from the kids. When I was examined our Aupair went outside into the waiting room area with the kids (at a time where nobody else was there, we were the very last patients seen) only to immediately return since the front desk did not allow them to be there and play! The nurses involved taking our details rolled there eyes many times when providing data and made comments about us in the hallway we could well hear. I gave Dr Ceplikas our honest feedback and overall she had treated us well and very friendly. My shock came when she asked questions/comments back - who did you talk to when calling earlier? I don't now who is even at the front desk duty today (???? really???). The last disappointment - it took me over a week to finally obtain my prescription drugs since they did NOT fax the prescription to the pharmacy (after asking me which pharmacy) and I had to have several conversations on the phone as of why I request them to fax the prescription .... I started going to Family Doctors because it is convenient for me and I love the idea of the walk-in clinic. However, for the past three years, I've stayed with Family Doctors because I have been very satisfied with the care they offer. I have never had to wait when I've had an appointment. I realize that goes against some of the other reports here on Yelp, but that has been my experience. I overslept when I had a simple appointment for a flu shot; when I called to apologize and reschedule, I told the person that I could be there in 15 minutes if that mattered. She said, 'I'll squeeze you in...' I arrived even earlier than that 15 minute time estimate and they took me right away. Considering it takes a short time to give a flu shot, I'm not trying to exaggerate the great service, but more to show it was a much appreciated courtesy. I go to the office for my flu shot because I like having it recorded on my medical record - which is easily browsed on the patient portal. That patient portal works great! The doctors I have had have been considerate and attentive. All the doctors seem to be tied to computer information; you see them browing and checking patient information but I think that is a good thing. I check my own information on the portal because it's so easy to do. All my blood chemistry results, dates of office visits, etc., are there. If my doctor is not available, I can see his nurse practitioner. This is good to know but so far (knock on wood), I have not had to do that. read more

I was a patient here for several years. My primary care doctor was lovely and so were most of the clinical personnel I had contact with. I have two areas of feedback that were the basis for transferring my care elsewhere. Also, I should mention that I didn't experience the wait times here that another reviewer did, with the exception of when I came to walk-in urgent care for illness. In that setting, I would expect to wait due to the nature of that type of care. 1. The front desk staff has a tendency to be cold and unfriendly, sometimes impressively so. They are occasionally so brusque that one imagines training would be required in order to attain that level of rudeness. 2. I dealt with some health issues and was treated by an NP who kept recommending a particular treatment, despite the fact that I didn't feel it was a good fit for me. When I spoke with my PCP about this, she was quite receptive and supportive. Despite this, I decided to transfer my care elsewhere and am pleased with the results. I'm now treated as a partner in my own care by all staff, clinical and non-clinical, and my autonomy and wishes are respected. As I mentioned before, the medical care is acceptable, but the interactions I had with members/employees of the practice didn't suit my individual needs. read more

I have gone here for years, mostly for location and hours. I wish that I had more good things to say about the overall place, but I really don't. Before I dive into the cons, let me first say a couple positive things about individuals: Pros: * Justin Yunes NP - nothing short of incredible. Very knowledgable (more so than even most of the doctors), thorough on his research and willing to think outside the box. I can't say enough good things about Justin. He was always professional, caring and did his best. * Dr. Laurie Witts - another A class professional. If I could have her as my PCP, I would in a heartbeat. She's caring, knowledgable and is a very good doctor. Neutral: The desk staff. I see a lot of people here on Yelp complaining about the desk staff. I have never had a problem with them and they have always been pretty good at getting people through. That being said, I can see what people are saying though. I've seen rudeness toward other patients as well as impatience. There is a VERY large number of geriatric patients here and the desk staff frequently seems irritated by them. Cons: * ease of appointments - it always seems like you have to pull teeth to get appointments that work with a normal schedule. * Dr. Christine Murcott - Is she a terrible doctor? No. But she has the warmth of a snow pea. Her practice of medicine is hit or miss and she seems more concerned with her image as a doctor than with the quality of service she dishes out. I went in with chronic migraines (3-5 a week). She tried just about every medicine she could throw at me and that's when I really started to get the idea that she was in the pharmaceutics companies pocket. I was treated like a hypochondriac and after a while just dismissed by her. Meanwhile I was unable to do little things like feed my children and handle work because my migraines were so debilitating. Finally Justin Yunes met up wit me and recommended physical therapy. After six weeks of physical therapy on my neck it was like I was reborn. But I kept asking myself "why had Murcott never thought of this?" I still don't know, but in finding that I decided to change doctors, something I further found I couldn't do. The front desk said they don't allow changing PCP within the same office. So, if you get an incompetent doctor who has a horrible bed side manner, you're just stuck with it?? Inexcusable. read more

I am sorry but the atmosphere in waiting room is horrible the music overhead is blaring and everyone is yelling to talk or cant hear themselves being called. The secretaries are all somewhat rude with the RBF and attitude of inconveniencing them to do their job of checking in and out. Never seeing Doctor you pick for your primary care, and then if sick it's as if you are there to get drugs not everyone wants narcotics, maybe a cough medicine, steroid, and antibiotics for the pneumonia that is not getting better but worse and more difficult to breathe. They also talk about what they think about a particular patients who did something wrong in their eyes and how they really dont like this one that one or they are wanting this that its disgusting to have an office setting like this how about the old days when you were treated as a human being needing care and compassion for your situation and problem you are there for read more

Family Doctors, LLC OK, suppose you just moved to the North Shore of Boston and need a new primary care doctor. Or your current doctor just isn't working out for you. Maybe you have had a cough for the last week and just want to get it checked out without having to go all the way into Boston to see your primary care physician. If any of these scenarios apply to you, or maybe you have something completely different, look no further than the Family Doctors, LLC located in Swampscott, Massachusetts, where patients from toddlers to seniors are accepted! Family Doctors are located on Paradise Road in Swampscott, MA. It is about a half mile away from a popular shopping and eating spot, Vinnin Square. Driving down Paradise Road, you can't miss the blue office building and big blue sign with large white letters next to those huge rocks. That might pose a problem for parking as the patient lot can get kind of full during busy times. Try to avoid those busy times by going in the early morning when the office just opens and/or after the lunch hour. If you are a walk in patient for the first time, you don't want to forget your ID, co-payment (usually around $20 give or take), and insurance card (most are accepted). Those are required to be seen by the doctors. And the very nice ladies working at the front desk can answer almost any question you may have. And after all the paperwork is filed, you can take a seat in the comfortable waiting room. In it, there is a TV with the news and magazines to occupy the time. Believe it or not, the bathroom is exceptionally clean and sterile, something you wouldn't expect from a doctor's office. Looking around, you might see patients with any number of complaints. Some might have the flu (don't worry there is plenty of hand sanitizer to go around); some might be experiencing back pain, etc. The Family Doctors is great as it is equipped to handle just about any non-emergency situation as they have an X-Ray machine, a lab, and ultrasound machine. And some of those patients might be there for a physical with any one of Family Doctors' brilliant MD's. Family Doctors, LLC currently has 11 Medical Doctors on their staff with an additional 3 Nurse Practitioners. The doctors are all trained in Family Medicine and have a combined 50+ years of experience between the doctors. The doctors are helped by a very friendly staff of RN's and Medical Assistants. They have an organized system to make your wait time as short as it can possibly be, kind of like an assembly line, with each person vital to the process. If you are interested in becoming a regular patient at the doctor's office, inquire with the front desk. Chances are one of the MD's will be accepting new patients. I think if there is one thing you can take away from being a patient at the Family Doctors is the commitment and dedication you can see from the whole staff. You know that when you go there, you will get the best healthcare for your needs from a staff that truly cares about their patients. They enjoy their jobs and want to help you. My whole family sees Dr. Lisa Ceplikas at Family Doctors and we couldn't be happier. We moved to the North Shore from Jamaica Plain where we had another family doctor there who we loved, and who I thought would be impossible to replace. The location was convenient and my daughter was 2 when we moved (so I figured we didn't need a dedicated pediatrician). Dr. Ceplikas was warm and wonderful with all of us, so I knew we would stay and didn't need to switch to another practice when we had another child. My son was born one year later and he had high bilirubin numbers for almost 8 weeks. She worked tirelessly with me to find the cause, called me on holidays (he was born before Thanksgiving so this investigation spanned both that holiday and Christmas), and still spends plenty of time answering all my questions! The whole staff has seen my kids grow (we have seen most of the doctors and nurses there!) and they always are so friendly to us (even if my kids are loud in the waiting room)! I would recommend this group to anyone looking for a great practice in the Lynn/Swampscott/Salem area. The one thing I am unsure of is their online communication. While I sent many questions and had follow-ups online in JP, I haven't done that in this practice. I think it was a different system when we moved than it is now, so may be worth investigating again. But I haven't had a need for online communication since I can always get into the office the same day my kid comes down with a fever/cough/ear ache and they are very responsive on the phone (usual nurse response is within an hour!). I was a patient at family doctors for 20 years. (Emphasize the word was). My PCP was a very nice man, but every time I went for an annual check-up, he asked me the same questions - I finally looked at him one day and said "You know this all might go more quickly if you actually looked at my records before you came in the office." My nurse practitioner was wonderful. Most of the nurses are very nice, with the exception of 2 of them. I went in a couple of years ago because I had a severe eye infection in my left eye. For some reason, the nurse decided to give me an impromptu eye test (read the chart on the wall) - I am very near-sighted and was unable to read the 2 lower lines on the chart. The nurse flipped out and kept saying "You didn't pass the eye exam, you didn't pass the eye exam!!" I pointed out that I had an eye doctor. Her response was "Well, I HOPE you're not wearing contact lenses right now!" (OK, I was). When I told her that I appreciated her concern over my bad vision, but at that moment MY primary concern was the fact that my eye was badly infected, she stood up, turned her back to me and said "The doctor will be in momentarily." and walked off in a huff. The second incident happened a month ago. I called family doctors to have an prescription for an anti-anxiety medication refilled. The nurse I spoke to informed me that I was taking too much of it because I was calling to have it refilled a week early (the prescription label stated that I could take one every 6 hours as needed, which I never do - there have been times when I'd taken 1 1/2 pills in a 12 hour period). I mentioned this to her, but she kept insisting that I was taking too much like I was some kind of crazed drug addict so I made an appointment to see my nurse practitioner who authorized refills without batting an eye. There are other incidents but I have gone on too long as it is. I have since moved and have found a medical practice that treats me like the responsible, intelligent adult that I am. read more

My experience with Family Doctors has been a very positive one. Dr. Jeffrey Phillips is my Primary Care Physician. I find him to be competent and caring. I love the fact that if I need to be seen on a day when he is unavailable his colleagues have been able to see me. There are many special medical services available at this facility. I have made a major lifestyle change by attending the six week Health and Wellness Program directed by Dr. Phillips and Dr. Ceplikes. I have always been treated with courtesy by staff and have never been kept waiting for scheduled appointments. I have a long history of back and hip pain, and sometimes it really acts up and I cannot tolerate it...so I decided to go to this urgent care because it was extremely painful, close to my work, and I didn't have to wait hours to be seen. Initially I went to get a doctors note, but when they saw me all bent over and in agonizing discomfort, they did NOT give me any prescription that worked! Yes, I got the note, but I was walking in and out of that office like a 99 year old. They had the records from my former PCP THAT STATES WHAT CONDITION I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH (I HAVE PROOF) AND THEY CLAIMED THEY "COULDN'T FIND IT". One of the staff actually asked me why I didn't go to the ER, and I explained because it was close to work and was faster. And she kept saying "Well you should've gone to the ER" and I replied, "Then what the hell is Urgent Care for?". Another staff member actually asked me if I was okay...I said "I'm at Urgent Care, what do you think?". Because they supposedly could not find the name of the condition I was diagnosed with in the records, they basically refused to help me. I never asked for controlled substances or narcotics, I just wanted an Rx that actually worked! Then they claimed to give me all the records pertaining to my condition...they only gave me a ONE PAGE report on an MRI I had a while ago! Then they claimed they were not an Urgent Care, they said "we are your primary care and not an Urgent Care!...DUH it says BOTH on the sign out front! This whole experience was extremely upsetting to me because I was in excruciating pain and they repeatedly LIED to me. When I went to pick up ALL MY RECORDS, the name of the condition WAS IN THERE IN BLACK AND WHITE!!! So they didn't even bother to read any of it! Taking time to write a review, hoping that no one will have the same frustrating and dangerous experience I had today. I was a "walk-in" at the center, never been there before. I filled out all the paperwork, letting them know I am 32 weeks pregnant and having a lot of difficulty breathing, along with possible bronchitis or pneumonia. They asked me to take a seat, with the other 15 people in the waiting room. When I asked how long I would be in the waiting room i was told 45+ minutes. After waiting 20 minutes and no sign of triage, I told them I was leaving and going to the ER because I was concerned that no one had taken my vitals or oxygen level to see if my baby and I are getting enough oxygen. When I said this, the receptionist responded with "ok, good luck." The staff at this facility didn't do anything to inspire my confidence in the medical care they offer, and I will certainly not be going back. read more

My normal primary care doctor is located in Brookline MA and I live in Swampscott. I get sinus infections all the time, and do not find it necessary to drive all the way to Brookline just to get an antibiotic so I started coming here for that matter. My experiences have always been consistently pleasant. I usually see a different doctor every time I go because I am a walk-in, and they always treat me like I am one of their regular patients. I have been here for a plethora of reasons since such as a sprained ankle, and a broken nose. Every time they fit me in even if they are too busy. Recently I had an incredible experience with them including the front desk. They showed compassion, and such incredible care. I come here more than I see my PCP, and couldn't be happier with them! read more

Horrible customer service. I walked in on a rainy Mother's Day with an obviously sick toddler, only to get greeted by a sour faced receptionist. Where do they find these people? Only to have her tell us they don't take our insurance. And when we said we would pay out of pocket to make our sick child feel better she looked like we were putting her out! Decided to just wait to be seen tomorrow by our own pedi. Sorry Family Doctors you just lost two patients. This was on Sunday. May 14, 2017. read more

very rude desk staff. Especially the dark-haired women named Dolly. Very unhappy person all the time - needs a new job. Medical care is OK if you don't have anything wrong with you. My doctor looks at the computer and not me. read more
