I shop here about once a week. Yes, the store is a mess and yes the prices are very low. And if someone tells you they NEVER have both registers open at the same time, they're correct. The staff is adequate but they seem incapable of picking up the items on the floor, I'm not sure if it's a phobia or they just cannot bend over and do it due to medical issues. Regardless, if you can put up with the mess, the somewhat lazy staff and the long lines at the register, this is a great place to shop. read more

walked into the store and got told to give my backpack to the man at the register and i complied, walked around to get whatever i needed quick and i notice 2 people with backpacks? i go to the register to pay for my stuff and i kindly question the man at the register why i was the only one with my backpack taken away and the others are roaming free with theirs. he had no answer and decided to tell me to question the customers who had their backpacks, i simply ask nicely again and both the cashier and the customer start screaming and cussing me out. i asked for the manager and the cashier said he was the manager which i dont believe because they all say that. they proceed to yell at me to pay for my stuff and get out and to never come back. i highly believe it was an act of racism because i am a covered muslim. someone needs to do something about this. read more

I will love to send a shout out to James the Lead manager of the store. Today I come in and he is mopping sweeping cleaning store wow it smells so clean feels so welcoming. He always greets you no matter what day it is his professional personality is always on point. He has always went beyond to help me and my family with whatever we are looking for he will always help you. The staff don't fall short He has lead by example they follow the same footsteps. This store gives you their best advice and support. I honestly just wanted to recognize James today because when I came in and seen him cleaning making the store comfortable for all who come here it touch my heart. Today, I came to this location (approximately 1p) to grab household items. Typically, I don't shop at family dollar because they're always junky. But this location took the cake! You couldn't even maneuver through the aisles without running into clutter. When I got to the front to checkout, I asked the young lady if she was the manager and she said yes. I asked "why is your store so junky?" She got so offended and basically said it wasn't their problem. When the conversation got too tough for her- she called the real manager (African American gentleman). He stated the store was junky because they had gotten a truck in. This store is awful. I had a gift card and did not see a single thing I wanted to buy. Tried to purchase a gift card with my gift card but not allowed so I left empty-handed. This was not a safe neighborhood but the manager was very polite and helpful. read more

This has got to be the absolute worst store that i have ever shopped at. The cashier was extremely rude with me this evening when making my transaction. The cashier was a young Hispanic looking man in his 20s. He slammed my money down because on the counter and proceeded to yell to his co worker that he was going on his break. He acted extremely aggravated with me. There was no conversation between he and I so i didn't understand why he was being just flat mean and rude to me. I live in the area but i will be taking my business elsewhere from now on and also letting others know of the piss poor customer service at 6240 n. Western and they need to start a complaint to the company. This location is terrible and so is management. The store's appearance inside is junky, full of clutter and blocked alises because of boxes of product everywhere that makes it really dangerous for customers to safely walk and shop. Don't shop there if you are looking to get treated like a human being who also is paying customer. read more

(This is a long review, but please read it before you shop here.) I walked in a few weeks ago to buy a pack of Band-Aids. I saw that there were only two workers there at the time, both behind the register, so I decided to look for the Band-Aids myself. I couldn't find them immediately, so I said to the man behind the counter, "Excuse me, could you please tell me where the Band-Aids are?" The woman working next to him, who had been talking to another customer at the time in a quite civilized manner, glared up at me, and BARKED, "Aisle 21!" I was terrified. I was surprised that she had been the one to respond, so in my confusion, I had heard "Aisle One". I walked over to Aisle One, and I was like, "This is candy." So I walked back over to the register, and said to the man, "Hi, sorry to bother you again, but where did you say the Band-Aids are kept?" Without looking up at me, he gritted out, "Aisle 21." I went over to Aisle 21, and I found a few types of Band-Aids. Either the patterned ones for $10, the regular ones for $5, or the clear, see-through crusty ones for $1.50. I picked up the one for $1.50 and, seeing as their was only one register open, waited in line behind a few families. After nearly ten minutes of waiting, the man announced that he would be opening the other register. Half of the line, including me, moved there. After about another ten minutes of waiting in that line, WITHOUT THE REGISTER OPEN, one of the women in line very timidly said, "Excuse me, but could you please open the register?" Those two workers? Yeah, for whatever reason, this one sentence made them lose it. The woman behind the register began screaming at us, the customers who had been very politely and patiently waiting for quite some time. She said, "You guys need to have some patience! PATIENCE!" She also began cursing at us. The male employee took his time walking over to the next register, all the while yelling at us as well. He also screamed (and these are his words), "We don't got to serve you! Understand? Be patient because we don't got to serve you!" At this point, I had just about had enough. I slammed down the box of Band-Aids hard enough to make a sound, and both employees turned to look at me with absolute shock. I said to them, "You are both SO RUDE." And then I walked out. I decided to come back the next afternoon to talk to the manager. There were a few more employees there, but none of them were the same ones from the night before. The manager was very polite. He shook my hand, and he asked how he could help me. I told him about what had happened the night before, and when I told him about the male employee, he seemed very shocked, and even informed me that he was the assistant manager. The manager said that he would speak with him, and thanked me for letting him know. Just a quick note to that male employee who thought he didn't have to serve the customers: In the state of Illinois, business owners DO have the right to refuse service, but only IF the customers are posing as a threat to the safety and security of themselves, other customers, or the property of the business itself. So please think before you speak, especially if you don't understand the legality. And, when you are being employed, and you DO NOT own the business, please don't say or do anything that will deter people away from the business. the service is terrible, the employees do not answer or good morning, the store is always very disorganized, twice and had to wait for me to be charged because the employee is smoking outside and we have to wait for it to end, that is unacceptable. I do not understand how the brand of those stores can tolerate that. It is obvious that there is little or no supervision. and opted not to return anymore. read more

Very rude employees. Had attitude when I asked for the prices of the items when there was no price displayed. During my checkout, I changed my mind on certain items that I wished to be voided as they were being scanned and the cashier rolled their eyes and sighed. Upon being checked out, you have to call for someone to ring you out because they're understaffed. Very unprofessional environment. Do better. read more

I shop at these stores regularly. However, the one on Morse really sucks butt, so when I can and I'm up this way (which ain't much) - I stop in so that I can afford the FD from Hell on Morse. This store is decent, cleaner and well stocked. The staff is also friendly. But then, anything is better than the one nearest to me. I visit this location at least 5 times a week because I work near it. I would not do business here if the items weren't so cheap and I didn't work next door. The line is always long, and if you get the older woman cashier you're basically SOL and can expect to be standing in line for 15 to 20 minutes. Even if there are other workers around, they will never have more than one register open. They never have bags and always bag your items in garbage bags. The store is always messy because their inventory is always all over the store. It seems like no one ever puts the items away, they're just stacked inconveniently in the way, near where theyre supposed to be shelved. I've bought boxes of nutty bars, cosmic brownies, and oatmeal pies, excited at how much cheaper they are than at jewel. But, almost all the packaged treats tasted old and stale when I ate them at home. A plus is their blunts are cheap, 2 for 99 cents, which is probably my only positive note of this place. Anywhere else you can expect to pay near 2 dollars for the same thing. Overall: cheap decent quality items, poor store management and customer service. read more
