For years, I stopped coming here to the point that I forgot there even WAS a location near the Morse Red Line. But lately, because I've been grocery shopping at Morse Fresh Market more this year than I ever have in 18+ years of living on the North Side, I gave this Family Dollar a shot again. As was the case the last time, this one was pretty good. I have to compliment one employee in particular. When I first walked up to his register, I rolled my eyes because he had on headphones. Who does that? How out-of-body do you want to be to wear headphones while at the register with a bunch of customers? But somebody yelled something from the side, and he put down one of my items before he could start ringing me up. I had no clue what happened. He just beelined to another aisle. After a few seconds, I realized that they were trying to get someone out of the store. He never yelled. Didn't get aggressive. Didn't physically move anybody. Just stood there in all his "don't be tough today" aura. And the commotion left. He came back to the register, and I asked him, "Are you a security guard or a cashier?" He smiled and said, "Both." And that was when I heard his voice. He started talking, and I absolutely think he should have a side job (or a full-time career) in narration or voiceover work. He has a really intelligent, well-spoken voice that would sound great on audio books. It startled me a little because I didn't expect him to say one word, just ring me up with those headphones on. And I didn't not expect him to sound like the James Earl Jones type. I sorta heard him talking to another customer about the chocolate bars he was supposed to sell, but I didn't really listen to him closely. I talked to him briefly, and I joked about how I wouldn't recommend anybody trying him. Physically, it's just not a smart move. But he was the nicest guy. The headphones don't even make a difference. He was able to promo chocolate bars (I don't eat dairy so I didn't buy one), secure the store, ring me up and be charming at the same time. Whatever he is making, give him double (or a management position).

Beware of this store. For the last couple years, they have been illegally gouging customers by…read moreputting one price on the shelf and ringing up a higher price at the cash register. This is deceptive business practice, and the owner and manager should be ashamed of ripping off people!

Egad, this place is so scary, families ought to bring their kids here for Halloween instead of paying admission to a haunted house! Enter at your own risk (and avoid wearing open shoes). I've visited stores in impoverished countries that are far nicer. The hopeless mess is in stark contrast to better-maintained Dollar Tree stores in the 'burbs. Merchandise is strewn on shelves helter-skelter. The floor, which likely hasn't seen a mop since the Obama era, is littered with a mix of trash, blobs of crud, and trampled merchandise. Spills are ignored. Some of the aisles are impassable, blocked by an avalanche of cartons and junk. Heck, I was afraid to breathe the air without a mask!

I have no idea if they are closing down but there was barely anything on the shelves. Time to restock on items guys!! When I was standing in line to pay, I couldn't help but notice how loud, ghetto and carefree the employees are. I think one should maintain some decorum in a workplace environment even if it's a dollar store. The store looks filthy and I've witnessed people stealing here in the past.

The staff is adequate but they seem incapable of picking up the items on the floor, I'm not sure if it's a phobia or they just cannot bend over and do it due to medical issues. Regardless, if you can put up with the mess, the somewhat lazy staff and the long lines at the register, this is a great place to shop.

The produce makes up a lot of the store's inventory, so be sure to get some of this. Before it was pretty common for grocery stores to be independent. It's getting to be like these are all chains, but not at this one. This market is committed to the local community, and helps introduce unfamiliar items to people. A long time business in the community. It opened in 2004 at this location. A few hard to find specialties like Caribbean, Latin, and West African ingredients can be found. They also have hot food service. Has quite a lot inside. It's located on Morse Avenue at Greenview and is popular with many people. They make a lot of the prepared foods made to order, so it's fresh, and there's a good selection of meats and vegetables.

Sometimes they have good sales on particular items, such as produce that's overripe. I really love their selection of prepared foods, both entrees and bakery items. Their tiramisu "Greco traditional style" is some of the best tiramisu I've ever had!! Yes, their recently implemented "bag policy" is somewhat of a hassle, but I imagine they are such a small store that theft is actually an issue. Therefore they are trying to keep their profit margins in the black and I get that! They always have homeless people outside the store, many of whom I now know by name, who are just trying to get something to eat (and they do, from me and other neighbors), but it's still a liability for the store if someone steals from them. This isn't Walmart, i don't condone thieving from local markets!
