    Just a mess
    Laurie V.

Holy ridiculous pricing! This location has never been a favorite because it's dirty and messy. Now I'll add crazy overpriced. $10.90 for a basic black t-shirt. All the white tag "better garments" mixed in with the normal items. Took all the fun out of thrifting when their idea of used shoes were $18.00-about the same as sale priced new.

$150 for a coat. Absolutely criminal when you get your items for free.

This location is GREEDY. The prices are genuinely unbelievably high. It's so sad. Just because you learn how to use Google Lens to search things does not mean you should price your items to the first search result you find. I have no idea how they even make sales. My jaw was on the ground EVERY SINGLE TIME I looked at the price of a coat. There was a coat in there for $150!!!!!! I'm sorry but thrift stores should not charge more than $50 at the very MOST for ANYTHING. You get this stuff for free. And it's not like the sales benefit any cause--it's a for-profit business. It's honestly a better economic decision to go shop at Nordstrom where the prices are at value but at least the items are new.

gosh...haven't seen one of those for awhile...so 90's

Last time, hubby "attempted" to go in to check it out, but he smelled the piss and spurred out of the entrance. This time, Rosa J. was courageous enough to go through this adventure, but she detected no release of human bodily fluid upon entering. Thus, she stayed. I have to say that thrift stores are inspiring places to be if you try to reminisce the good times we used to have. Even though I am no longer in my early 20s, some merchandize there certainly shared some common history with me. I didn't purchase anything, though I normally would. Since the PA announcement indicated that there would be a half-price sale coming on January 1st., I will stop by again to score some stuff that I saw in the store. Like other thrift stores in town, the quality of merchandize varies. You can find a genuine-leather jacket for $35, or you can get a not-so-shabby sweater from a department-store brand for under $4, as long as you're willing to take time to dig in. As a blazer junkie, there's a ton of blazers I'm interested. Do you remember the red-velvet blazer that your awesome idol would wear on TV in 1994? Yeah, I saw it, not to mention the 90s styles are totally coming back with a vengeance. I took some photos, just for your entertainment. To everyone on Yelp: wish you have a very successful 2015! May the force of Yelp be with you.

I was really shocked at how many great pairs of like new shoes I found here. Where else can you find a pair of the ultimate gold sequin stilettos in your size for $1.50? I also scored a pair of pointy toed red BCBG flats with the price tags still attached for $2. Oh and whoever stashed the pair of Dolce Pumps in the prom dresses, THANK YOU. I just scored them for a $1.35! HELL YEAH! There are definitely deals to be had here, but don't think you're just going to find things by skimming through the racks, you have to dig! ALSO...This place does has far more creepy dudes then some of the other locations, but it is safe to come here if you're a girl.

11 people in line, ugh, one cashier.

They get very sharky around you if you're there for more than one hour. especially the Spanish chunky chick with long hair. she has a very serious demeanor. never smiles. I noticed after a while past the one hour browsing and shopping looking, she would creep up in the same aisle I was at pretending to stock and check items at the same time spying on me. very creepy. I didn't have a basket so had to hold a few items in my hands and forearm. The other heavy set AA female employee is just as leery and creepy. It's very insulting, uncomfortable and off putting to assume someone is taking things. It is not worth my time to cater to a location with suspicious sharky employees. The other locations never shark me. very disappointed with this location, it's big bright and spacious. but it is not worth being there over 30 minutes. I tend to linger a bit longer when I haven't been at a certain location in a long while. but it is not worth it at this location unfortunately. :/ my favorite employee is not there anymore :( and she was the very nicest cheerful one, made me smile. I think I see why she's not still there. probably had to tolerate the creepy other women coworkers. zero stars for employee demeanor, lack of confidence in innocent customers.

Advance Distributors is on the SE corner of Pulaski Ave & Argyle across the parking lot from Aldi…read more My wife is a Filipina and anyone who knows Filipinos know about the Balikbayan Box that they like to send or bring home loaded up with American items that are coveted in the Philippines. Her brother Ed lives in Quezon City w/his daughter and 3 grandkids. 2 girls and 1 boy. My wife calls frequently to check up and see how he's doing (I mean even if there was a problem he wouldn't tell her). So anyway she was talking to him last night to see how he's doing and if there were any specific items that he needed. The 7 year old granddaughter was asked if she wanted anything. She doesn't want anything like a Barbie doll she wants an i phone X. Yeah right let's get her a $1000 i phone X. Maybe one for her sister too lol. We recently found out after years of driving by that it is open to the public. This coupled by our plans to go to the Philippines early next year we ventured into the building that houses Advance Distributors to see if there was anything we could find. Upon entering we found row after row of merchandise some of value and others not so much (kind of like a giant flea market). I met one the owners Vijay who told me they have been there since 1974. It was originally owned by his father and now he & his brother run Advance Distributers. He told me he would give me a discount, but much of the discount is volume driven and I didn't need to buy more of certain items. Unfortunately there wasn't much that we needed from the store & many of the items that were name brand items I have bought when on sale at other stores at lower prices.

"Hmmm. I only have twenty bucks, but I need incense, rainbow pencils that say 'Melissa,' a pair of…read moresocks, a three-pack of eyebrow razors, lint traps, and a set of flatware. What to do?" If that sounds like you, this is the place for you. That's doubly so if you want both absurd and designer fragrances at discounted prices. Once in a while, things cost the same as at a regular store (hello, seasonal candy), but generally these are Five Below prices. Some things are sold in bulk for even more savings--nag champa super hit is a steal here! I like to come here for packing and mailing supplies. Never spend $5 for a roll of packing tape again! Bubble mailers of all sizes are $1.50 for two! These are the exact same things you'd buy at the UPS store but without the steep markup. The staff is a whole lot friendlier, too. It's also good for coloring books--so cheap, and some kids just go right through them. Now, the downside. They sell out of things fairly often. The place is not beautiful. You get dollar store quality for many items with dollar store prices. There's often only one type of a given item, so if you don't like the color on hand, tough cookies. It's close to both the Lawrence and Pulaski buses, but not the train or bike racks, and parking a car can be a pain. Keep your expectations low and your mind open to have the best possible shopping experience here.
