Gabe's is basically a cooperate run rummage sale. They buy…read moretruckloads of close-out merchandise (some of which is quite nice!, much of which is garbage) and they hang it on their racks and move on. Their business model is low margins on high volumes. Gabe's attracts about 50% normal customers and about 50% lowest of the low ghetto rats and White trash. They look at an article of clothing and then just throw it down, either on top of the racks without bothering to re-hang it properly or actually down on the floor. On a Saturday you will see DOZENS IF NOT HUNDREDS OF PIECES OF MERCHANDISE JUST THROWN ON THE FLOOR!!! Creating a scene that seems unbelievable that this is a corporate-run retail business! The worst of the customers let their children run wild in the store playing with merchandise, BREAKING MERCHANDISE, and generally acting as though a trip to the store is their substitute for not being able to afford Disney World or Chuckie Cheese. The children and the parents both act as though they have had no decent upbringing or learned social skills. And YES, this does pertain to a review about Gabe's because this is the atmosphere of the store if you decide to shop there. Much of the chaos stems from poor management. The will even sell BROKEN OR OTHERWISE DAMAGED MERCHANDISE just to get SOMETHING, ANYTHING out of it!!!...and this may or MAY NOT be clearly labeled as damaged. Like the old saying goes, the fish always rots from the head down. The employees are over-worked and stressed-out to the point of not caring. Let's just say that I have some insider knowledge of all this. Gabe's is a bottom-of-the-barrel retail operation. Yes, occasionally you may find a good bargain, but know what to expect inside their store.

The backwoods fabric signs they have hanging behind the employee area where the cash register is were unique and I almost asked if they are decor for the store or for sale. Lots of tobacco products and things you might need to go with it (tray, papers if you roll your own cigarettes, and lighters). Didn't see a bathroom but I didn't need to go when I was there so I didn't think about it in the moment. Employee was friendly and quick to ask if we wanted to look at anything in the glass cases. They also sell incenses and incense holders. The outside awning being worn down can be deceiving but this place is decent for what it is.

They have a 2nd location in South Bend but I have only been to this location so far. The person manning the counter was friendly enough but not much for chit chat. The only thing in here besides the dvds I wanted was the violin I saw. There were 2 and my husband and I were debating if one was a viola but we never found out because the lady just smiled at us. Might come back but we'll probably check out the other location before coming back to this one.

We still come into Fantasy Games every time we visit the South Bend area. They also have a drink fridge, a small snack selection, an event area for their card game nights, and a restroom in the back. I usually am drawn to their dice selection even though I haven't played dice games in years, while my husband tends to enjoy their Pokemon and Magic cards. I noticed during our last trip they had a lot more mini dice than I remember and depending on the brand they were only $5-$6.99, which was tempting me to buy a lot of them. They also have a rewards program, so if you come regularly that is definitely a plus. We will certainly continue to come by Fantasy Games for as long as we continue to travel through South Bend.

After a long day of work I raced to get there on a time crunch and made it 10 minutes before closing. I understand the irritation of a customer showing up right before closing, But in my case I was locked out and told "we are closed for the day". To which I did respond that they claim they were open for 10 more minutes, and that I knew exactly what I came in for and where it was. For it would take me less than 2 minutes to pay and get out of there. The little mean old lady told me "nope, nope. Too bad we are closed" and slammed the door in my face. Its wild to me any place treat a paying customer like that.

The shop is clean and has all private rooms. She was able to draw up this cat shaped floral piece in just a couple hours and it surpassed my expectations.
