When he picked it up to look at it, with the intention of buying it, she said "fish aren't biting in here", in a rude, short tone while shooting him quite a serious stare. We promptly put the item back and left. Upsetting for the vendor that would have sold an item! We frequent Antique Malls, Emporiums, and Markets. Never have had an issue before with picking up an item to look at it, especially when then item isn't labeled as "do not touch".

She was quick (faster than expected) to respond with pricing either by phone or email. They put my order in and the blinds came in within the delivery time. Let me preface by saying I LOVE THRIFT STORES... I love finding a second hand shop in a quaint little town like Colonial Beach. But this isn't second hand... it's third or fourth hand! The inventory here isn't just used, it's beyond. Much of the junk here was broken, damaged, and dirty. I saw a cute leopard skirt that had a huge rip in it and it was marked $6! T-shirts, blouses And tank tops were stained and torn. Sweaters were pilled, pants missing buttons and dirty.. Worn out broken sandals and flip flops were... hold onto your hats... $5! Haha, ridiculous. You can go to the dollar store, Walmart or Old Navy and buy new ones for a buck. I checked out the jewelry and most of the earrings were rusty or missing beads and they were priced too high. Some of the glassware was chipped. I will say the S & P shelf was full of cute, kitschy pairs of nostalgic shakers and some of the kitchenware was worth a gander. I saw some nice silver toned candlesticks on a table but they were overpriced for this shop. Other than that, the whole place was just junky, dusty and disorganized. I felt itchy when I left... I hope they clean up their act and discard the useless items and start being more selective. Otherwise, it'll be "another one bites the dust" for this CB shop.

The shop is in what used to be a house, and one cute thing they've done is make the "kitchen" a room for kitchenware, but it's just packed and a lot of items are kind of dirty. In the back room, there are some clothes and shoes but the items are all dated and there were cheap plastic flip-flop selling for $5 and dirty, torn sandals and clothing. At the front door, there was a Keurig machine with complimentary coffee and tea, which was a nice touch. I bought a set of salt and pepper shakers for my collection, but this shop will not be on my list next time I'm in Colonial Beach.

Our family owned a little hot pink beach cottage for about 10 years and we made some wonderful memories here! There are two main roads: Colonial Avenue and Washington Avenue which House most of the businesses of CB. Irving Street runs along the river and some lovely architectural homes can be seen down this street. Visitors will love the trolley, or rent a golf cart to tool around this "golf cart" town! I prefer this smaller beach town to the hectic sands of Virginia Beach. This is the second largest beach in VA, with the aforementioned Va. Beach being #1. The sand is a tawny honey color, the beach stretches long and narrow, and the brackish water is serene on this part of the quiet Potomac River. You will see lots of boats, jet skis, kayaks on the river! The pier is a great spot for fishing, to take a break under the gazebo or pose for a photo op. The line of huge rocks offers a safety border as well as aesthetic appeal. There's a playground on one side of the beach, and some great shops, kiosks, and restaurants lining the boardwalk. The wildlife is amazing. I marvel at the osprey nests on the poles and pylons lining the riverside and on the bay, as well as the other birds and sea life you will find. I love the artsy vibe here; the town is splattered with cool murals on various buildings and has several art galleries and craft shops. There's just a few restaurants but they are nice! We love Lenny's for breakfast and have eaten at just about all the other places here: Dockside, High Tides, Riverboat, Four Seasons, The Lighthouse to name a few. In the summer months, don't miss Nancy's soft serve ice cream shop! You'll find a couple of grocery stores, wineries nearby, and plenty of places to stay including a few hotels and some B&Bs. Don't miss the antique and thrift/consignment shops. I've found many a bargain on this streets! This town takes pride in its community! There are lots of events and festivals year round! The 4th of July fireworks show is one of the best I've every seen! Typically there's not a huge crowd here, except for holiday traffic so it's the perfect spot to relax and take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city! So take a deep breath and exhale as you watch the waves and let the tide wash away your worries! CB is one of my happy places!

There's literally no proper place to change apart from few and filthy bathrooms. How much does it cost to put wood changing stalls? I'm sure the local municipality can afford it. -clear parking signs needed. We were told by a local that we cannot park on one of the streets near the beach. No sign that says no parking allowed, but we still did not want to risk it. -local businesses are a hit or miss. Some places are okay, others are trashy beyond words.

I want to say Barbara but don't quote me. The store seems about the same as any other Dollar General in terms of location, parking, inventory, cleanliness, etc.-all fine. But Barbara stands out. Upon entering, the first associate I encountered looked at me but didn't attempt to engage me at all. Barbara was coming my way down the aisle and stopped to say hello and ask if I needed help. I told her what I needed: quart Mason jars for holiday apple cider moonshine. She said they had just come off the truck, hadn't been placed on the floor yet, but give her a few minutes and she would run to the back and grab a case (even though she was also on register duty.) A few minutes later she was, indeed, back and offering the case to me for inspection. After checking out, she thanked me for coming and invited me back again. Nice lady and an asset to Dollar General.
