I've lived in this community for 10 years the diversity is awesome. I've been welcomed with warmth in many store. Except, for one store of all stores. Is Family Dollar on Moody st. I've been in India Market, excellent people. FamilyDollar bad experience. Before, I made a judgement call. I wanted to be sure in what I was feeling. I have no need to steal from Family Dollar. This owner would get up from his chair and follow me around this store on several occasions. I've watched him deal with those that are not black skinned be treated with respect and to walk freely in a store. But for some reason I'm not given the same freedom. To the point I have to ask him why he follows me in his store. He told me he can do whatever he wants to do in his store. He is right about that. I can chose where I will spend my money. And it will not be Family Dollar. Instead of following me around. Clean up your store,removed the clothing and trash along the aisles. Cover up the the rat traps you have exposed through out the aisles. Clean and organize your store front window which is a dumping ground for your garbage trash. It smells bad, the product in your refrigerator needs to be thrown out. Bacon should be red, not grey. The list goes on. You stand so proudly to be able to follow a black woman in your store. But you have no shame in how you Present your store to the community and the customers. Sir, trust me when I say this. Why would I steal from you? read more

Was closed for an unadvertised 1 hour during normal business hours, without explanation. I walked for a mile with snow on the ground, slipping multiple times, and they were closed without notice. Not a good way to do business. read more

After more than 7 years, I shall never shop there again. Most others complaint about how overpriced the items are. To that, I agree but tend to accept like all convenience stores. Today, that is not my complaint. Poor customer service, dishonest interaction, and shoddy sigange discourages me from ever returning. I do not know if this particular store is indicative of a trend in Family Dollar stores in general, but for the branch on Moody St. in Waltham, best AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. read more

Gone is Glory of Moody Street, & many of the wonderful stores which enjoyed their time on this once-vibrant avenue. The lively Woolworth's that had ingratiated the location where this Family Dollar now resides, had a grand diner, lively pet center, & was teeming with customers & joyful employees. This is definitely NOT a wonder-world, clean, organized, discount store, in the middle of downtown Waltham on Moody Street. This is more like the pits of Moody Street. That being said, if the deals weren't like they are, the location is great (right in the center of Waltham), and the staff are friendly and kind. For the store, it wasn't clean, what-so-ever, yet had everything I needed and was a fine stop, with great prices and a good stock of everything you could need. Solid three stars. First off, family dollar is NOT a 'dollar' store by standard definition - its a discount store. So many of the items cost more than a dollar, but are still a good bargain. I come here for paper towels, toilet paper, and other bulk items. one star off for inconsistent supply - if you find soemthing you like that isnt a standard staple, stock up - because they may never stock it again. Another star off for lack of cleanliness. i realize this is a discount store so I dont expect it to be sparkling clean - but come on, they could at least try a little bit more. I was caught with an armful of oatmeal pies at Family Dollar with my friend Lisa screaming, "OMG! Diet Coke's like $1.50 for a six pack...OH MANNNN!!! That's gonna be for chasing vodka, BIATCHHH!" Ok, so techically it's not a dollar store because my apricot peach flavored water (also another great chaser) was only 50 cents and those oatmeal pies were for my dear friend Rita who's from Israel (*hint: it's late july 2006 and israel isn't the happiest of places right now). Me: "Oh man...my life sucks...I have a frickin' paper due tomorrow and my roots look horrendous!" Rita: "I call home every hour to see if my mom's still alive." One dollah! is way way less than what you would spend at the Family Dollar. Yes, I buy my toilet paper, household goods, and cleaning supplies here. No, they are not cheaper than any other store unless you want to have toilet paper than resembles sand paper. Buying sale items at CVS w/CVS bucks will get you a better deal. This place is a complete dump. I can't believe the health department hasn't shut them down. The floors look like they have not been mopped in months and the employees just stand around doing nothing when the store is so dirty. I lived down the street from this place for a while, and it became a staple in my shopping on Moody Street for things like toilet paper and paper towels, but also for ridiculous, useless crap, as Joyce pointed out! I live right up the street from Family Dollar and I thought it would be very convenient. I've gone in a few times hoping for the best, and the store is always a mess. There are supplies everywhere, nothing is good quality and they barely have what you are looking for. All I wanted was some birthday wrapping paper and a card and it was very limited. I am giving this place two stars, because of the convenience of the store location. They don't have any tags up at all denoting prices on the cleaners people are going nuts over due to COVID-19 panic. Thus, you don't know what you will pay until you check out. Of course, a customer will say if a Clorox spray is say, 8.50, "That is too expensive," and the cashier has to call a manager for a void on the price gouged item. However, I have noticed a lot of price tags that are outdated sales, and wrong prices. They always say the customer must have put those items there. Customers don't usually have time for that, like putting 10 of the same Sheba packs of food under a dollar sign when they go for 5.50 on the sign closer to it...then ring up for 8.50. Or the sign is read wrong, when it is not, the price rings up higher at the register. It has happened so many times in this same location, about the wrong price tags, and the customer is never right. Despite Mass laws that protect consumers from wrong prices in grocery stores "The Massachusetts Item Pricing Law requires food and grocery stores to individually price mark most items with the actual selling price. The law also requires food and grocery merchants to sell any item at the lowest price indicated on an item, sign, or advertisement," it is unclear if the Family Dollar is exempt from these kinds of laws because they are not a grocery store. However, the frequent mislabeling of prices and outdated price tags that are not honored by the store's "the customer is always wrong," mindset with the way this store operates, is an approach that causes distrust in a customer. A good place to stock up on things like Diet Pepsi, hair ties, and toilet paper. The stuff is cheap as can be. They have their own brand of things like chloraseptic spray and Saran Wrap...cheap and effective. They've got some really weird stuff, but I actually found something cute for my living room there! i was not impressed. if this is what massachusetts considers a dollar store, well, this might be the root of the problem with this entire state. first of all, thank you for making me feel like a total criminal indian store owner, by standing with feet planted wide and arms crossed over your chest at the entrance, glaring at me and everyone who walks out of the store. no, i didn't steal any of your dollar crap. this place is decent for home products like paper plates and soaps, but there is no level of creativity after that. there is a horrendous assortment of garbage just strewn all over, making it difficult to navigate through the store and to identify some theme to the grouping of products. also, the sign outside says Dollar Discount, not Family Dollar, and they have many items that are more than a dollar. this my friends, is not a dollar store, it's a cheap crap store. read more

The Family Dollar store is right opposite the Dollar Discount store that most reviewers seem to have visited. The DD store is a dump when compared to the FD store. They are part of a large chain that offers mostly household items and wares. Cheap and better prices than most superstores for similar items. Most folks go there to get cosmetics/bodycare/household cleaning items/cheapest carbonated water in Waltham. Perhaps the other reviewers should redirect their reviews to the J&M Dollar Discount store (300 Moody St) rather than the Family Dollar store (309 Moody St). In fact, a third Dollar Value store has opened up two stores away from the DD store, and this might confuse most folks looking for any one of these stores. Barely anything here is a dollar. Somethings are more expensive than a non discount store. The store is a wreck and it's dirty. The workers are not nice either. There is really no value in going to this store. Pay the same prices as a clean organized store. read more
