So many helpful employees. I often go shopping here with my aunt. She likes the European snacks and the imported chocolates. The morning crew in the front end I am familiar with, they are all careful with our things bagging and ringing up. David and Paula go out of their way to provide great customer service. Despite it being a discount store they treat the customers like a you are in Nordstrom. Lots of good value on items like cleaning products and dog treats. I always get my laundry items in here and they are same items anywhere else but much cheaper. We love shopping here. read more

Their answer was supply chain issues and they have no clue when my order would be ready, why keep the product on your site then? Holy ****, what a dump: all I needed was a pack of sponges and while I really wanted to get in-and-out, the line was insane on a Thursday at 11:40am. How many people were ahead of me, you may wonder? Just the woman whose items were being rung up, but there was a growing number of people behind me since we were all waiting for the guy at the register to SLOWLY look at each aluminum pie plate for a price, then SLOWLY take out a 3 ring binder full of pictures and prices. Then, after determining these were 30 cents each, he had to ask what she was making with them? OMG. Then a discussion about the fleece pajama bottoms she was buying, were they the right size, etc. I waited at least 10 minutes, and finally decided I would rather pay 3x cost at the grocery store; I left the sponges right there and left... and was so aggravated that I just went home with no sponges. The stores looked like it was last cleaned years ago, empty shelves and crap all over the place. First and definitely the last time in this location!! read more

Worst OSJB store ever; would give them O stars if the option was available. Received an offer of employment, was made to show up on my own time (unpaid) twice and both times management was not ready for me. Truly a waste of time & gas. Not to mention the store was seemingly VERY mismanaged & disorganized. When I finally was able to start my first day with onboarding (and was told THIS time it was to be paid, mind you) literally ALL the managers had quit and new ones had came from corporate to replace them [mismanaged & disorganized]. They did not have access to their company's systems and AGAIN I went home with another day of wasted time & gas. THE WORST PART was that when they eventually rescinded my offer (after hiring me and having me come in to onboard), they REFUSED to pay me for the onboarding hours that I worked byway of NOT RESPONDING to emails, to calls, to texts and nor voicemails! After the unresponsiveness, I literally told their HR via email that I was going to report them to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and that's EXACTLY what I did! A week after this, their HR finally called me to discuss the discrepancy and a week after THAT, I got my first & last check. An absolute disgustingly mis-ran company from the bottom (store) to top (managers) to the top of the top (their HR)! DO NOT waste your time coming here. I would NEVER return to this store as a customer EVEN if they gave me free s**t and paid me on my way out the door! read more

If you don't go, you don't know. And I didn't' know that there was an Ocean State Job Lot such a short distance from Fiorella's in Newton, on North Street. It is located in Waltham at the River City Shopping Plaza. What took me there? I was there on a mission - to find a pair of black No Nonsense leggings to swap out the the patterned ones that I had regretted buying after some consideration. I failed in that regard, but did leave with some oil free Neutrogena face cream at a price ($8) cheaper than CVS and Amazon. I also noticed that they had soft sided 20" carry one luggage for $39. However, at 6:15pm on a Saturday, they only had two people ringing customers up, and one of those were at the Customer Service desk. read more

I dont know why I still go to these stores... I always think Im getting a bargain... Grabbed a pair of house pants the other day & I will admit I loved those.. But was in the food section & saw something that caught my eye, looked at the expiration date (mind you I was in there last week Decemeber 2016) and the expiration was like May of 2013 or something.. Like are You F****** Kidding me?!?! How is that allowed? I hope people are aware of that ish & stop buying food there, just go for cleaning products & rugs, because Boy do they have enough of them! read more

The store has at least doubled in size as of February 2023. Still being built out and reorganized. They're in the process of reworking the floor plan and already you can see it's going to be really great, probably the largest and best organized OSJL I've been to, and I've been to many. For example an enormous garden section has opened up in what is now the new far end of the store. Not all the garden items have migrated there from other places in the store but they will. Next to the garden section are brand new accessible restrooms! It was kind of a rabbit warren to navigate in the past and I'm looking forward to the final product, going from one of the most cramped stores I've ever been in having a tremendous expansion. You can see the difference already with many of the existing aisles reoriented for better flow and more spaciousness. I buy many things here so I'm really looking forward to the finished product. read more

This one star is for Covid-19 cashier procedures only! I like/love the place, but today I had cashier (manager?) who came to check me out. She first sneezed into her gloved hand (w/mask on). I told her about a price check but she had trouble following my instruction. Once done she grabbed a throat lozenge! I dunno, I should have walked but I had invested so much time in my shopping! They hand santizer at the doors so I slathered it on bags and went home to bleach and wash everything. Please be careful everyone--and OSJL, talk to your employees again (most are pretty nice). read more

I'm sitting in my car outside of Ocean State Job Lot. I got here at almost half an hour before they closed, and one minute after I stepped in the door they announced that they were closing in 15 minutes. Several announcements followed, it's getting more volatile and rude. I wasn't the only one in the store, it wasn't as if I was shopping in the store alone holding all the employees up there. I even said hello to an employee that I passed and didn't get a response back. It was as if every employee hated their job and couldn't stand to be there a moment longer. I was walking to the front of the store with my small basket of items, went two male employees approached me. They informed me that they were closing with an exasperated tone. When I told them I was aware of this, the employee told me to "chilllax". "Did you just tell me to chilllax?" I asked. The employee admitted he did, and said it had a long day. Then walks off. I'm in my mid 30s, and have a ton of retail experience under my belt. I understand this may not be his ideal job, but if you don't want to be here, go home. I don't need attitude from an employee who can't wait a minute for me to finish walking the 20 feet to the register without mouthing off like a child. The store wasn't even closed yet, and it appeared that the employees were unable to maintain themselves with any level of professionalism. When I asked the front register woman what the employee's name was, she drew a blank. Shocker. read more

I first walk in and knowticed the store was bare like the place looked like it had been ram sacked. Very empty shelves. The shelves that did have stuff was a complete and utter mess. We were looking for rugs some went stright there. We decided we were going to buy a rug and we found one that would watch perfectly. But it was under probably 6 more rugs. We tried literally everything except putting the other rungs into the floor. No matter what we did we could not get the rug. No one was in the isles helping people. Someome in the back looked through the door, seen we were struggling and just walked past. Eventually we decided to leave and say screw the rug. We walk by the cash registers. They had one person on the register with probably 30 people in line. And there were 3 people are the service desk standing around... one of which looked like a hooker that came off the corner... they need help and the store needs help. Wont be spending my money at this location. Customer service training is what they need. read more

You can find all you need in there, this is amazing store with so kind people working there. But, if it touches items which have an expiration date - you'll be disappointed! Walking around looking for stuff i needed i found so many things with expired date. It's so sad, now I can not trust this store if i need to buy something like that. read more

Ocean State Job Lot is one of the average discount stores in the area. The Waltham location is a bit different than the rest, yet still just as good. Whenever a new store opens (as Ocean State Job Lot has only lived in Waltham for about 4 years now), and they aren't the original stores a chain company first bought, sometimes they aren't exact. That's what happened here. This space that OSJL purchased in a plaza along River Street used to be an AJ Wright, and is a bit smaller than any other OSJL. The main difference is the store layout, the shape of the store, and the extra space lacking. It has basically everything the other locations do, except for the fact there is less space in each aisle and not nearly as much in the main walking aisles throughout the store. In addition, it's normally very busy, and the checkout area is also smaller. That being said, there are always great deals when anyone shops at a place like this, and frankly, sometimes you just HAVE to have those great deals, and it is a great place to have in the area, as the Waltham / Watertown / Newton area completely LACKS discount store. So there are some reasons to shop here, plus the stock is always great, and this specific doesn't normally seem picked over. 4 stars for the Waltham store. read more

This Ocean State Job Lot is brand new. In fact I only came here because I spotted the grand opening sign on my way home from work. The store is medium sized, clean, and well organized. If you want to save more money give the cashier your e-mail and to gets weekly coupons sent to you. The best deals here seem to be on food, pet supplies, and housewares. If you need something particular you might want to call ahead, they may have something one day and then be sold out it the next. read more

I shopped at a store in Falmouth. The item description on the package did not match the item inside. I emailed Ocean State Job Lots late that evening and heard from them first thing this morning. The person was very understanding and very kind. Within about 2 minutes my problem was solved. Excellent customer service. I will continue to shop there and suggest my friends do the same. read more

This store has the slowest cashiers ever! The store is not too orderly. Latex gloves used to be with the painting supplies. Today they were with gardening. Often times the items are not priced at all. Visit the Norwood store to see what a clean and orderly store is. read more

Not being from this area, I had driven by this store on different occasions always wondering what it was, a employment agency? No too big of a space. Then I was told by this dog trainer to look for a dog mat that he wanted me to purchase at Ocean State Job Lot. Sure enough they had it for $10.00 where it was $45 in Petco. I also ended up buying lots of package nuts at a reasonable price. They had many food items for sale that had expired.The experience of shopping here was a little chilly! This is a great store with a problem male manager who WORKS to irritate customers. They have great prices on merchandise. There are stores in Medford, Westborough, and elsewhere... that do not have the management problems of Waltham. If there is a long line at the registers - he will open up and take the LAST person in line. If you have a return, he will talk down at you and imply that you should not be returning. Do not expect courtesy or customer service from him. Shop a different OSJL. read more

I know what you are saying - four stars for a Job Lot. Yup! I have not been to many but the last time I went with my daughter and her friend, the little girl said that she felt that this store was "soul crushing". I don't know about that but I come here about every week while I am waiting for my daughter to do her dance class. It is really hit or miss here but it is not as disorganized as a Building 19 used to be. One day during the summer, the hubby asked me to keep an eye out for door knobs because he wanted to replace a bunch. They did not have it but behold on a recent visit, they had them and they were $8 (decidedly much less than Home Depot). I needed a bunch of Qtip like cleaners to apply makeup for a school play - they did not have it. BUT they did have all the makeup I needed for that play. I always go here first for an item before I head over to the other stores. Are the prices "the best" - I would say no but you will end of saving something. I also like the quirky sales people that work on the day I usually go in - they are sweet and try their best to help. read more

Basically a Big Lots. Wasn't crazy impressed with the product selection but found a few good deals. If I lived in the area I would stopped here once in a while. Product gets switched out pretty regularly so you should make frequent stops to see what they have stocked. read more

I had driven by ocean state job lot many times and always assumed it's a place people go to to find jobs. I was shocked when my dogs trainer told me to go there to buy a training mat for my dog. I walked into the store and it was off putting how ghetto the store looked. I was ready to walk right out. Luckily I gave the store a chance and found some good finds. They had the dog training bed/mat I was looking for for only $10. It was about $25 in petco and petsmart. I found peanut butter company brand peanut butter for $3.50 which is even cheaper than target and Walmart. I also got some good deals on nuts and dried fruit. I was disappointed that some of the food items I was interested in buying were about to expire so beware of this. The young man who rang up my order was surprisingly pleasant. If you can get past how ghetto the store looks you may find some good deals. read more
