My wife's frame of her glasses that we had purchased earlier in the year broke last week, when her glasses fell down. We went to Family Eye Clinic first thing the next morning. The waiting area was not crowded. The receptionist was friendly and immediately checked us in. In less than five minutes we were seen by a tech. She was very helpful. She examined the frame, smiled and said that she could fix them right here on the spot. We just had to wait a few minutes. In less than ten minutes she returned with the repaired glasses. She asked my wife to put them on and based on her feedback she made some other small adjustments for better fit. My wife was overjoyed to get her glasses fixed so quickly. We were not charged for the appointment. I know there are a lot of bad reviews for Family Eye Clinic online here. Our whole family has been patients both here and at the old location for twenty years now. We have always been treated well. Only after Dr Brown left, it took us a while to find a doctor that would stick around for more than a year, but it has gotten better these past two years. My son and I went to the office in Midlothian, Texas yesterday. We had just moved to the area and have not been to this optometrist before. There were so many positives: friendly staff, clean facilities, high-tech equipment, professional. Making the appointment was easy (I made it online), and we got in the next day for a regular, new patient eye exam. The morning of the appointment, I called to add my insurance info to our files, and they answered the phone quickly and did what I needed in minutes. When we checked in, the woman at the front desk was friendly and professional. I didn't get her name, but she was young, around 25-26 with long, straight hair. She chatted with us a bit, asked us to fill out forms on a tablet, and we had a seat. My son and I were both called to the room - we saw separate doctors - within 5 minutes of being in the waiting room. The waiting room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Bathrooms were clean and easy to access from the waiting room. My tech, Amy, was a new employee there, but she did a great job and ensured she was thorough. She was friendly, patient, and conscientious about doing her job correctly. I saw Dr. Nguyen, and I felt he took his time with me, trying different a different set of contact lenses when I didn't like the first pair. I like that they gave me a 5-day trial set of progressive contact lenses since I have not worn them before and was unsure. I'm always unsure getting new glasses or contacts, and I thought they handled that well. He also went over my eye test results, showed me the images, and explained what he was seeing. I felt comfortable asking questions and never felt rushed. Then on to the area to select glasses. This was the biggest win for me, actually, even though I usually never buy frames from the eye doctor's office (so much more expensive). Here's what happened... My son (age 18) had already picked his glasses by the time I was done, so I let him get them. Just after we had paid and were wrapping up our transaction, my son noticed another pair of glasses that he liked a lot better than the ones he had chosen. We asked the person helping my son with his glasses, Nina, about switching them out (they were the same price). Though I am sure this was a PITA for Nina, she was really nice about it. My son said it was okay to keep the same frames (he didn't want to be a problem), but I pushed him to be sure because I know he would have regretted not getting the pair he really liked. So he tried them on and yes, he really liked that second pair much better. Nina was really nice about it and allowed him to change the glasses, even though she had pretty much completed our transaction at that point. It took her extra time, maybe 20 minutes, but she stayed positive and didn't seem frustrated with us at all. I'm sure it must have been annoying for her (it would have been for me!), but she was a superstar anyway. On top of that, when Nina rang us up the second time for the new glasses, she noticed she had overcharged us when she rang us up the first time. She admitted that, apologized, and fixed it right away. I didn't realize she had overcharged us (the overcharge was $42), so she could have just kept mum and we probably wouldn't have even noticed it. So great job on that, Nina! I commend her integrity in admitting her mistake and ability to stay with us and professional even though I'm sure it was annoying that we changed his frames after paying. Overall, it was an excellent experience yesterday. We were very impressed with the facilities, the high-tech equipment, the efficiency, and most especially, the staff. read more

I have repeatedly had trouble with getting my contacts in a timely manner. Either they come in and they fail to let me know or they forget to order them all together. Front desk help didn't seem to have any remorse at all that I was inconvenienced with no eyesight without them. That is all. Rant over. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. My husband and I went last year. The doctor increased both of prescriptions significantly. I was a little concerned, but just thought that maybe that was what we needed. This year, I went back to my previous eye doctor. I now need vision therapy because this prescription was extremely overcorrected. I will have to purchase special glasses (I am generally a contacts only wearer) to regain my vision. If this does not correct it, I will have to go through at least 12 weeks of vision therapy which is not covered by insurance. If the glasses correct this damage, I will have to purchase get an additional pair to get back to my correct prescription. When I mentioned this to a local optometrist, they said that this is very common to receive incorrect prescriptions from this office. So beware. I wish someone had warned me. read more

This is the most inefficient office I have ever witnessed. 30 minutes waiting plus the 14 minutes they told me to arrive early for. Then eye tech brand. New and kept having to call for help. Waited for Dr for 25 minutes. Doctor spent 7 minutes with me and then another person came in and said she did t have any contact trials and would order but first put in the waiting room again to pay where there were 3 workers at keyboards, waited another 10 minutes cor the person to tell me what I owed. Came and got trial Contacts a week later and left 2 messages and no one returned call. I stopped in today to pick up my order which I did. Not place and they could not find anything. This was the worst inefficient office and service I have ever experienced. I would not recommend this place ever. read more

If I could give them negative stars I would. Called a couple of times to schedule an appointment. First call I was placed on hold for 7 minutes. Finally hung up. Called back a week later and was told scheduling system was down. Third attempt, finally scheduled an appointment. Showed up for the early morning appointment. The door was locked. There were two women inside. I could see them through the glass door. I knocked and they looked up at me as if I was bothering them. Neither one of them came to unlock the door. I left. Run away. One star is too many but you can't leave a minus 5 stars. Last year they kept forgetting to order my husbands glasses. Lots of long sad stories on what could have happened and maybe one apology from someone and finally a month late he got his glasses... but not before he called to ask if they were in and they said yes, but when he got there his glasses were not there yet. A very long drive because they don't care enough to make sure they give out correct info. This year... same thing, but different excuses and we are still waiting. It would not be such a bad experience if even one person there cared about the many inconveniences of trying to do business with them. There's no excuse for bad manners. I chose to come to this office because they offered many different eye treatments. It is quite a drive for me (around 30 minutes) but I thought it would be worth it because of their offerings. Their staff is nice for the most part, some of them can be rude (probably having a bad day or something--happens.). Dr. Crystal Eylar was very sweet, knowledgeable, accommodating. Highly recommend her if you choose to come to this place. So why the one star rating.... I requested to get contact lenses and they didn't have my trial lenses in stock. Hence, they had to get them ordered which I was fine with. I gave them two weeks to call me to come in to try them on but never received a phone call/voicemail. So I called them on 11/13 (my appointment was on 10/28) and received a phone call back from their contact lenses dept. She stated that they had forgotten to order my trial lenses. I was a little disappointed, but things like this happen so I said it was fine. She stated that they should come in the next day (Tuesday) and she will set me up with an appointment with a different eye doctor (my doctor is Crystal). She didn't give me a time to come in so I assumed she was going to call me once they received the contact lenses. One week later, I still haven't received a phone call nor voicemail to come in to try my contact lenses or schedule an appointment. I called them today and left a voicemail requesting for an update on the lenses. No response as of yet....I sent them an e-mail requesting for my contact lens prescription so I can just order them online. I thought this place would be worth the drive but their customer service is lacking....I'll probably just find an Optometrist nearby my area instead... read more

This is not only a terrible office but a terrible place to work. I am a certified medical assistant and worked here for almost a year. The manager Jessica is completely oblivious to how terrible of a job she's doing. It's like working in a high school with a bunch of middle schoolers and substitute teachers. It's a mess. Their patient care is absolutely horrible and they allow it. I definitely don't recommend working here nor getting your eye care here they are over priced, only care for themselves, selfish, terrible people. Some are gonna hit the "laugh" button but the only thing funny here is that y'all are pay twice as much then you should be for a pair of glasses or contacts. Check other clinic cause I promise you this one over charges and loves double dipping. They've already gotten in trouble and sued for breaking Joppa policy so. Go at your own risk. read more

Works like an assembly line. And at each step they try to sell you something else, like dilate your eyes (who wants to be dilated anyway!!!) or pay more for a computerized exam....then they walk you out with a tech who from hello tries to sell you a pair or two of glasses. One of the things that I love about this optometry center is that they have always been sweet and kind when you are there in person. I have never had to wait for my appointment because of overbooking and if I do have to wait they always have very good programming on their television (the last time was my favorite movie The Lion King... you can't get better than that) but the wait may only be roughly around 3-5 mins at the most. The facility is beautiful and the fish tank is amazing. The only downside to this place is the customer service when you are NOT there face to face at the facility. They can be very curt etc and when I was trying to check on the status of my glasses they had me on hold for almost 10 mins. However my overall perception of this business is fantastic. In fact they have one of the best lens cleaner solutions I have ever used and I have had glasses since I have been 15. read more

My wife and I recently used Family Eye Clinic in Midlothian for eye exams and the purchase of glasses. Unfortunately, we walked away with the feeling that the sole purpose of the clinic is to squeeze as much money as possible out of each client. I realize technology has changed, and that machines now conduct the preliminary exams, which provide the optometrist with baseline information, allowing the practitioner to simply "fine tune" the prescription. However, when the OD was testing my distance sight by asking what I could read, I kept stating "it's not clear, but I can make it out." She then asked which is better A or B - answering based on the only options I had, I clarified "A is not clear, but it is better than B." She did not respond and moved onto my reading prescription. Again, I kept saying "it's clear at ARMS length." And A or B. "Well A is better, but it's only clear at ARMS length." She never acknowledged my concerns and quickly moved on to pushing supplements. She then made a very hard sell to my wife for progressive lenses, which my wife had tried and does not like. My wife prefers lined bifocals, just as I do. While selecting frames and lens options, we were provided NO options, as to the type of lens we would purchase. Our insurance covers plastic single, bifocal or progressive lenses at no cost, but we were sold a trivex lens without our knowledge. The technician assisting us never discussed our options. She simply sold us what, I speculate, would provide her with the highest commission. At checkout I started asking questions as to wanting a detailed listing of what we purchased and what our insurance covered. I was made to feel I was wrong for questioning the details. Transparency is not available at this clinic. I admit I was not as prepared as I normally am, regarding choices and options available under our insurance, but in the past other clinics have always provided transparency as to what insurance will pay for and educated us on the benefits of coatings or other lens types. I am embarrassed that I allowed myself to be treated in this manner, but hope this review will prevent others from being hoodwinked. read more

Got my appointment same day but late, 4:50. Needed to have my eye rechecked from getting poked this weekend. Got back to the room quickly and got an overly chatty nurse. Up front there were multiple girls standing around making fun of someone who just submitted an application to work here. Now I have been waiting over an hour with no explanation. Opened my door to listen. Lots of gossip going on. Guess they are too busy gossiping to see their patients in a timely manner. I'm walking out in just a few minutes. My max wait time is 1.5 hours before I will leave. If they don't respect your time it's obviously a terrible office. read more

I have never been given the run around by certain employees as bad as the staff of the Family Eye Clinic has managed to achieved. First, I made an appointment for an eye exam. After confirming the appointment on the phone, they were not able to find the appointment in their system. Second, I decided to purchase a set of frames to be told a week later that they were discontinued. Third, trying to get my money refunded took 2 visits and 3 phone calls to finally get my credit card refunded by the same front desk employee that told me she was not allowed to process refunds. In all I cannot recommend this business unless they retrain or reassign some of the front desk staff. read more

Doctors are wonderful. I cannot say enough wonderul things about them...just get your glasses elsewhere. I asked for children's glasses with full coverage for my active son. I was directed towards the Nano-Vista brand and told many times that they were a 3 year full coverage brand...covered in loss or theft...damage to lense or frame. My teenage daughter is my witness. I asked the woman to repeat it several times just to make sure. I take part of the blame for not asking for something in writing but the woman told me that all I needed to do was give them a call. I told all my friends about this brand..."a little pricey but worth it". Today, I called to make use of the "loss" part of said warranty. I was told that the brand's warranty only covers damage and does not cover loss or theft and just given a simple "sorry"...then told about another full coverage brand I could choose next time. LOVE this place!! I've been seeing Dr. Brown for 12 years now and will NOT go to anyone else! I currently live in Grapevine and still drive back to Midlothian just for my yearly exams. However, I was a little put off this morning by the lady that checked me in. She wasn't "rude", but definitely not welcoming. Sure doesn't start my visit off well... This place has the worst customer service skills I have ever encountered. They seem to get off on being rude! I was there to pick up contact lenses for my granddaughter and the lady at the front desk was less than helpful. She has to go through 20 questions instead of just saying my name was not on the form in order to pick them up. I gave her my granddaughters phone number and she called to get permission from her to release the contacts to me. When she hung up she allowed me to pick them up without even asking for my name or for any identifications. That tells me she wasn't interested in finding out if I was the person whose name my granddaughter gave her rather she was more interested in being an ass. I agree with D. N. that it may be certain employees that are less than helpful. I guess I was just unlucky in getting one of those. read more

After spending more than $1400.00 on 4 pair of glasses, yes $1400.00, When they called to tell me my glasses were in I was told I owed $20.00 they forgot to charge me for shipping. If they have a corporate policy to milk every last dime out of a customer they are not a place I will continue to do business with. They should have written that 20 off and gone on their way.
