I loved my visit to Family Grounds. I came in around noon for my lunch break, it was moderately busy, a little noisy, but no problem at all! I ordered the dirty chai latte with whole milk. Amazing. Perfect chai, strong espresso. I grabbed the avocado bagel toast as well, this was a full airy style bagel with a schmear of guacamole-like avocado and everything bagel seasoning. Very good as well. Next visit I'll try the coffee and another food item. Ambiance was nice, they have patio seating, a few tables, a few couches and cushioned chairs to enjoy your time. They have an area for kids to play which gives you parents a chance to relax. So far, my favorite place in Sanford. It's a must try if you are passing through. read more

Family Grounds is definitely one of my favorite coffee/cafes around. It is totally worth the drive from Cary for a nice Saturday brunch/lunch. They have great coffee & yummy food & excellent smoothies too! There is a lot of seating & has a fresh vibe in the downtown Sanford area. This is a great small coffee shop that really knows how to bring the crowds. From the coffee to the seating and everything in between; it has it all. They have a variety of all coffees and flavors. The staff are super friendly and helpful when it comes to deciding flavors. They had a delicious raspberry White Chocolate special for Valentine's day that hit the spot. The cranberry orange muffin was also to die for. The seating is vast. Couches, chairs, love seats... Something for everyone. They even have puzzles and a free library so you can stay for a while or get something to go. I'm a big fan and will stop in regularly when in town. read more

We were visiting Sanford and stopped in this cafe that could gave easily been in a downtown metro area. They don't just sell coffee, they also promote knowledge about coffee with frames that decorate the walls. The atmosphere was pleasant but not appropriate if you're trying to have a quiet conversation. Be prepared for the barista to yell your name when your order is ready. She doesn't need a blowhorn! We enjoyed our dairy free iced chai and iced mocha. A major highlight, is that they offer gluten free menu items. My son was able to enjoy a gf bagel sandwich. That's a big plus for this establishment. Surprisingly, they also have a playroom with some toys that is open for young children while you sit and talk over your meal. Nice perk! read more

This review is not about the coffee or food or the ambiance, but rather the customer service, it sucked! Please do what the customer ask when it comes to a coffee drink they are paying for and consuming! If a customer wants 1 shot of espresso in a large to go, give them 1 shot and the rest steamed milk. Same with the flavorings and sweetner. It's really not that hard. We know you want to protect the quality of your coffee. That's not the issue but trying to argue with a customer because they want it put together different is a deal breaker. Unfortunately we will not be back for this reason. The orders in the past have been as requested. What changed? read more

Fantastic coffee and great vibe, atmosphere. I went every morning I was in Sanford. I knew there had to be a good coffee shop nearby and went looking. This place was busy which is a good sign and their coffee's were all great. I usually like dark, strong coffee, but tried the one from Peru and really enjoyed the flavor. Thanks to the whole crew for making my week on the road much more enjoyable. Looking forward to visiting the area again soon. read more

This is a super find. It can become your all time favorite This place is large (roomy) comfortable (many leather chairs) and beyond friendly What makes it unbeatable is the food they offer Homemade grilled egg, cheese and croissant (with or without bacon) made in less than 5 minutes !!! Outrageous. From 5.50 to $8 I come from NJ the home of 5000 diners This is just as good as ours. (No more need for Strbks or Carabou..they're "so -called premade food in a bag !! Here, there is also a mex selection, chicken salad and more. All totally delicious and made to order I brought some of my family last week. They loved it and want to go back !! So order, then sit back and enjoy in this wonderful "family" place. Located in the downtown section (with plenty of parking) The owner is the man who makes it work!! What a lovely place to enjoy a great cup of coffee or a chai tea. We went here on our visit to Sanford and really enjoyed the old vibe of the building. I ordered a brown sugar cinnamon latte and it was delicious. Two people ordered cold brew and two ordered lattes. The area is big with plenty of space to work. Being from MPLS there is no shortage of coffee shops. Having moved here last year I've been missing the vibe and this place was recommended to me. I love the interior. It's huge where you can space out and there are plenty of different spots to sit. You can get cozy in a lounge chair, sit at a table or even on the couch. Love it. I've had the chai tea the 2 times I've been here and it's been really good. The bagels are fresh and such a nice addition to coffee/drinks. This place is amazing! Customer service is above and beyond. Very warm and welcoming environment with cozy holiday decor and plenty of seating. Staff are welcoming and always up to help customers. The coffee is AMAZING; they really know what they're doing behind the bar! Food is top notch! Chick salad is 10/10. The Grove Salad is phenomenal and comes with a delicious homemade dressing. This was my first time trying this coffee house. I asked the barista for his recommendation. He recommended the breve with brown sugar and caramel. I also got the cinnamon raisin bagel with cinnamon brown sugar cream cheese. I barely had sat down before they called my name, my order was ready. The coffee was rich, and creamy and full of flavor. The bagel was also good, as well as the cream cheese. I believe I could've eaten the cream cheese bad self. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Was welcoming very friendly. Family Grounds is one of our go to spots for great coffee, tea, or a smoothie. Also great environment for small gatherings to converse and catch up with friends. The service is what I consider thoughtful. Their concern is that the customer receives a quality product even if it takes a bit of time. I typically order a hot Earl Grey Tea. The step time is 4 minutes so if there's orders before mine, well it makes sense that I need to have a seat and relax before being served. I get it. And I'd rather have a great product over a rush job where my beverage is lack luster in order to be another fast serve place. I appreciate their heart and they always have a kind word for folks. Highly recommend and of course I'm a loyal repeat customer. read more

What an amazing coffeeshop. This was a great find on a Saturday afternoon visiting Sanford. Their coffee beans are supreme and are rotated shortly harvest to maintain freshness. They get bagels overnight from NYC, and the options are really good. There are also a number of gluten free options of pastries. The ambiance of the coffee shop is really inviting and relaxing. There are books to read and a number of comfortable chairs to relax in. Lastly, the owners are very friendly and informative and great company to be in. read more

Such a lovely morning cortado at Family Grounds! The coffee is rich and still medium in flavor with no bitterness. The building has a wonderful vibe and offers several sitting alcoves for a more private experience. The owner gave a wonderful explanation of his vision for the business and the source of his beans; something my foodie husband and I loved! Not the type to leave a review whether good or bad but I stopped in today for the first time and was SO impressed by the place! It's spacious and open with a beautiful aesthetic. Aside from the overall welcoming environment I wanted to say that I was immediately helped by a lovely girl named Nina and was also so impressed with her kindness and sweet soul! She was my barista and made me one of the best iced lavender lattes I've ever had in Sanford, thanks to her kindness I can't wait to come back for lunch! 10/10 would recommend for family, friends or studying! A fantastic coffee shop in small town North Carolina. What a gem. I asked for a cappuccino, small. They said "it only comes in one size". YES! Cappuccinos only come in one size. This is a coffee shop that actually understands and respects coffee. Wonderful staff, who are engaging and have fun personality. Also, for breakfast I've had the sandwich and the breakfast wrap. Both are good, but the wrap is my favourite. Exactly what you need to get your day going. Lots of seating for working, and the clientele are smiling and happy. Ambiance was cool, but despite not being busy, it took 28 minutes from the time I ordered to receive a dirty chai latte & bagel. For $6.50, I did not expect to receive a drink that tasted like boiled water from an unclean pot. Great potential, but please teach the baristas how to make proper drinks! read more

Although the drive-thru line was long, it moved quickly, so I was hopeful. When I got to the speaker, I politely ordered my usual drink with a modification of light ice, as I always do. But this time, I was told by a male worker that they wouldn't fill up my drink if I requested light ice. I was surprised because as a barista myself, I've never heard of this. I would've understood if this was a bar where they can't add more alcohol just because you said "light ice" but literally it's just a refresher. Not to mention, I've been to countless Dunkins all over the country, and I've never heard of this policy before, the usually accept my light ice request (which is a button on their register btw) and fill my drink up with more liquid. It seemed like the male worker was being coached by another employee over the headset, and he just repeated what he was told. I get that every location might have its own rules, but this just wasn't the friendly service or experience I'm used to. Interestingly, after this stop, I drove another 30 minutes to a different Dunkin' where they had no problem accommodating my usual light ice request. This really highlighted how off this particular location's service felt. Seems corny that they would rather prepare a whole drink that I never received than to fill the drink up with partially more fluid. Based off the reviews seems like a lot of customers shared similar experiences with me, what a unique way to run a business.

I ordered an espresso based iced drink off the specialty in app menu, and overheard the staff talking about what the drink was while I was waiting. I don't think they realized it was for me. Otherwise they probably wouldn't have said that the drink was basically a whole other drink and that it used regular coffee instead of espresso. I could tell immediately that I had the wrong drink when I picked it up, but was way too tired from the heat to even start to navigate the situation. It was the saddest and weakest starbies drink I've ever gotten- and that is not a dramatization. Also, I'm fairly certain that they charged me a customization fee for putting in sugar-free vanilla instead of the regular sugar vanilla. My local Starbucks just takes care of that for me without any sort of up charge, so that was really disappointing as well. The restrooms which are supposed to be just for customers are very poorly governed, so I had to wait about a half hour in line to get into the one single stall. Unfortunately, this is one of the rare occasions I wish I had just kept walking past that Starbucks and tried someplace else. I've only been once, so go ahead and judge it for yourself. But, based on my experience alone, there is serious room for improvement.

The atmosphere inside the coffee shop feels like a modern vibe but nestled within a small town. I ordered a strawberry glazed donut and a vanilla latte. I wasn't the biggest fan of the donut as it didn't taste the freshest and the espresso shots weren't pulled correctly as the latte tasted a bit watery/thin. This coffee shop is crowded as it's really the only option in Fuqua-Varina but may try it again if I'm in the area again.
