After they couldn't provide me with anything, I decided to restart the process in the United States. Instead of being blinded by the prospects of having a baby, I decided to research fertility clinics extensively. I decided to go to Emory, since they had the highest success rates and I felt comfortable speaking with the physicians. (I reached out to ACRM, Shady Grove Fertility, Pathways Fertility, and Reproductive Biology Associates too). The other places did not have a good selection of frozen embryos to choose from and they tried to charge extra money for using 3rd party organization donor eggs. Also, a few were very pushy and tried to offer unnecessary services that I knew were not recommended based on YouTube videos I watched online. Right now, I'm passed the 1st trimester and I want to share my review before the baby comes - and I won't have the time. I wanted to give a HUGE thanks to the Patient SRVS Coordinator Lorraine Smith-Richards, Nurse Clinician Stephanie Soloway, Nurse Laura Frings (very good at keeping me updated by calling and emailing), Dr. Heather Hipp, Dr. Audrey Marsidi (embryo transferor, which was successful on the first try), and Dr. James Toner for making this process possible. I absolutely loved Dr. Toner, since he was very responsive and easy to talk to. I'm really grateful for their team for making the process easy and successful on the first try!

When I started looking at fertility clinics I researched multiple, specifically looking at doctors…read moreand their bios. I really wanted a female doctor and found myself gravitating to Dr.Pavna Brahma. When I first found her, she was at RBA and after my first consult, I knew I wanted her to be my doctor. Dr.Brahma is incredibly knowledgeable, thorough, kind and informative. I came with a list of questions and she graciously answered all of them and even diagrammed parts that were extra complicated. She never made me feel rushed, or stupid and spent the time that was needed to ensure I was comfortable. I went through my first egg retrieval with her, which netted out to one healthy embryo (after blastocyst and PGS testing). As I was going through my second retrieval, I found out Dr.Brahma had left RBA and I was given a different male doctor (Dr.Toledo). I was saddened to hear the news of her departure and nobody would tell me where she went. Dr.Toledo helped me finish out Dr.Brahmas protocol, which resulted in 4 healthy embryos. I ended up doing two transfers with Dr.Toledo, which unfortunately resulted in two failed transfers. Dr.Toledo was not able to give me good guidance on what went wrong or provide a solid plan going forward, so I went looking for a second opinion. Coincidentally, my OBGYN, recommended Dr.Brahma who I found out was at Shady Grove. I got a copy of medical records and went to Shady Grove to visit Dr.Brahma. When she saw us, she immediately embraced us, and was so welcoming, it felt like seeing an old friend. She glanced through our records and was immediately able to pinpoint areas for improvement. We ended up transferring our remaining embryos to Shady Grove and after my first transfer back with Dr.Brahma, I got pregnant. Unfortunately, it didn't progress beyond 5 weeks because the embryo quality was too low. We continued to work with Dr.Brahma and about 9 months later, I was pregnant again and this time, we made it past 6 weeks, then 8 weeks and eventually graduated from Shady Grove and released to my OBGYN. I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant and I know I wouldn't be here without Dr.Brahma. She was our saving grace. She was always very honest and open with us about our options, supported us throughout and always came to the table with a strong plan. She never let me lose faith and my husband and I firmly believe she is one of the best fertility specialists in the country. We would recommend her to anyone trying to conceive. She has every quality you would want in a doctor: empathetic, smart, well researched, incredible bedside manner, great communicator, thoughtful and thorough. Our journey to parenthood is because of her.

Pains me to leave this review but I would not recommend shady grove. If you're seeking a fertility…read morespecialist, it usually means you're already facing something that comes naturally for many others. It's an incredibly vulnerable and emotional place to be, which is why I was so disappointed with my experience at Shady Grove. My initial consultation was okay, although I didn't feel there was much bedside manner. I was reassured that the doctors were among the best, so I trusted the process. Unfortunately, from that point on, my experience became one frustration after another. I was incorrectly billed because the financial department failed to do its due diligence and check with my insurance d. Then, without any communication or transition, my physician, Dr. Bramha, went on indefinite leave. While she had only been involved in my initial consultation, I was never given a replacement doctor or someone to discuss my care with. Instead, I spent months going through mock cycles and unnecessary appointments with very little explanation. I completed three mock cycles because they couldn't determine the appropriate medication protocol. I would show up for ultrasounds feeling defeated, with no physician available to answer questions, review my progress, or provide guidance. At that point, it felt like I was simply moving through an expensive process without anyone truly overseeing my care. The only consistently positive part of my experience was the kindness shown by the woman who drew my blood and the ultrasound technician. They were compassionate and made an otherwise difficult experience a little easier. What was most frustrating was the lack of transparency. When I asked whether there were any grants or financial assistance programs available, I was immediately told no. After doing my own research, I discovered there were actually several grants available specifically for Shady Grove patients. That felt representative of my overall experience--having to find answers on my own instead of being supported by the clinic that was charging us an arm and a leg for essentially nothing. Fertility treatment is already emotionally, physically, and financially exhausting. Patients deserve clear communication, compassionate care, and honest guidance. Unfortunately, I did not receive that at Shady Grove, and I cannot recommend this practice based on my experience. Additionally, give yourself 6 weeks to get any kind of medical records to pass along.

Their responsiveness through the portal is 1 to 2 days, even if urgent. There is no number to call to speak with finance. It took almost two months to get a simple prior auth with our insurance due to RBA sending incorrect records and delays with resending. Then, we needed a new prior authorization sent which again was declined due to missing information. We lost multiple months and cycles. Their clinical team is rude and provides inaccurate information. They schedule for incorrect procedures, or none at all (good luck getting a call back to schedule!) Scheduling simple tests also takes 2 to three weeks. Their app is constantly down but thats the only way to communicate with anyone. Doctors provide completely unrealistic timelines and outcomes. They are not on the same page with anyone on their admin team RBA is also more expensive than others. Go elsewhere if possible. I've used Emory for egg freezing and although their billing team is difficult to work with, and they are a bit more expensive, it is worth the communication standard and lack of errors

When I requested to speak to someone about it numerous times I was completely blown off except by the Dr who said she would express my concerns. There were issues with misrepresentation of services, surprise billing, breaking hippa by an anesthesiologist who confused me with another patient and then realized her mistake and shared some of that patients history with me as an explanation further breaking hippa. There were repeated communication failures that have resulted in financial harm, added stress and compromised medical care. When my specialist called the answering service needing to speak to my Dr the message was never sent to her, they were never directed to a Dr on call and no one spoke with him. Drs don't usually call on the weekend unless there is a serious concern which there was and had my Dr been made aware there is no doubt in my mind she would have reached out. Additional issues include: * A $280 charge for laboratory tests that were never drawn that I had to spend time and energy getting them to remove because I didn't have them done there. I uploaded results from my dr after she has them done and it only cost me about $30 * A promised billing call that never occurred * Constant incorrect pricing - they documented the FDA exam pricing in an email and then tried to overcharge me after and I had to show their staff the email so they would match it While individual staff members have been courteous, the administrative and billing practices reflect poor coordination, lack of transparency, and disregard for patient safety. I will finish the review when I have more time but if you are looking for a fertility clinic I cannot recommend them. They told me one cost and charged me another, ended up costing much more then I was told I'd spend, we're not good about communicating, didn't provide all my records when requested and the other Dr I dealt with for my removal, seemed like he had a bad bedside manner and seemed rushed and uncaring.

Every single time I go in, they never acknowledge me or welcome me. You would think if you work in a fertility clinic the staff ESPECIALLY the front desk employees would be welcoming. Absolutely NOT HERE. The ladies that take your blood ESPECIALLY Andrea are always in a bad mood too. When I try asking Andrea any type of question, she ALWAYS responds with an attitude. We also had a horrible experience finding out we had miscarried our first time. When I went in for my first ultrasound to check the sac and heartbeat, the main ultrasound tech whispered to the other nurse that was in the room with us about our miscarry. Instead of her telling us first, we found out by them whispering it to one another. It was very unprofessional. At first, I thought the only good doctor in this clinic was Dr. Cain but later found out we are only really a number to her. It seems like she is the only main fertility doctor here and doesn't even know who is who when she is communicating with her patients. On my second transfer, I insisted I get my progesterone levels checked the day before my transfer. Dr. Cain told me they normally don't check that but would check it if I wanted to. Well they checked my progesterone level and it was on the lower side. The next morning Dr. Cain had me raise my dose a few hours before my transfer. After my transfer, they rechecked my levels and they were within range. Imagine if I never asked to get my progesterone levels checked. Overall, this place is HORRIBLE! The worst experience for such a vulnerable time in my life. I would NOT recommend this place at all! Please consider finding a caring and welcoming place for your fertility needs elsewhere!

I did not call your office to request any change, nor did I receive any confirmation email or phone call regarding this rescheduling. I clearly stated that I did not request any change and asked how my appointment could be moved without my authorization or notification. I then politely requested that the staff check with the doctor to see if I could come at any time on my original appointment date, as I am flexible. I am young and used to not being listened to, but this visit took it to the worst possible level. Dr. Mabile has ignored my pain on multiple visits before this since 2022 and never provided any medication or numbing, but what I experienced with Dr. Illston can only be described as casual cruelty. She first left me in the room for over 45 minutes, then came in and out repeatedly, leaving for long periods. She also refused to re-prescribe me my birth control, which cost about $2.00 with insurance, even after I asked. She instead prescribed me Slynd (which they seem to be pushing lately), which costs over $200 even with insurance. During the pap smear "attempt," I was given no pain relief, and she ignored my discomfort and pain and tried to tell me that a tampon and speculum were the same size; therefore, this should be no problem. She also inquired about my sexual activity and virginity status, then recommended penetrative sex as a way to get used to the pain. Needless to say, her comments were extremely inappropriate and rude, bordering on discriminatory language. I would not recommend this practice to any woman of color or queer person, as they are not affirming or understanding in the slightest. Dr. Illston, in particular, should be fired. For such a medically invasive field, one would hope they'd be better, but practice does not care about you or your feelings.
