It houses various sectors of the Trust including the family planning clinic, children's unit, podiatry, mental health team, health visitors and so on. The centre has been here for a number of years and is a vital part of the community. I know a few people who work for the Northern Trust in this centre and they have not one bad thing to say about it. It's a great place to work, every one is made to feel welcome and you will often see a friendly, smiling face around the (some what dilapadated) buildings. From personal experience I've never had any trouble or mishaps here. The receptions are always cheerful and helpful, they are professional secretaries that don't misplace your appointment. There's a lovely community feel around this area that's partially held together by the local services around here.

I am an extremely infrequent visitor to the doctors and like most men I tend to let things get excruciating before I finally admit that I need to see a doctor. With this in mind I wasn't actually registered with a doctor it had been so long since my last visit. So just before Christmas I decided to get registered somewhere close to where I lived. I firstly went to a practice at the bottom of the Antrim Road which resembled a prison, luckily for me they weren't registering new patients, so I wandered further up the road and came to Salisbury Medical Practice. The practice itself resembles an old victorian manor house, welcoming, grand and warm. The doctors and staff evoke the same feelings. I went in to the practice on my first visit and to be honest I didn't even expect to be able to register but to my surprise they asked me to come back that afternoon to new patient registration (Thursday's). Once registered which was a simple process I was then able to book an appointment. To my complete and utter shock I was able to get one the next morning at 10am - Let's put this in to perspective. In 24 hours I was registered, booked and seen by a nurse and doctor. I can not recommend this practice enough - highly professional and caring. Easily the best medical experience of my life. For anyone worried about me, it's just a football injury!

Routine appointments are often booked up well in advance but they have a triage system whereby when you phone in the morning you receive a call back from either one of the GPs or the Nurse Practitioner who will discuss your symptoms and decide how soon you need to be seen, appointments are kept specifically for this purpose. I have lost track of how many GPs actually work here but there are 6 consulting rooms around the main waiting area at the back, a small room opposite a treatment room & a larger treatment room beside reception. Most staff are polite, friendly & helpful. Self service check in allows for quick check in and a reduction in queues at reception. You can register for online services too which allows you to securely book/cancel appointments and order repeat prescriptions. You can nominate a local pharmacy to collect your prescriptions too to save a journey, very handy service indeed.

Owing to this fact the Family Planning Clinic is now a vital part of modern day life. Fortunately many of these clinics offer top quality service and advice for anyone concerned about sex, sexual health, relationships or contraception. The FPA provide free, straightforward and confidential advice to anyone who wishes to avail of the service. The increasing need for us to be aware of our sexual health means these clinics provide us with an invaluable service which anyone can attend any time. I'd advise ringing to book an appointment as the drop in clinic can be busy. There are various clinics around Northern Ireland, many situated at your local doctors surgery or at various locations in the city centre.

If u go to open surgery prepare to sit for 3hrs surrounded by al sorts of other sicknesses and then you can only talk to the doctor about one thing, anything else and you will need to come back and wait another 3 hrs.

Very poor treatment of patients, especially those who have (*gasp*) jobs…read more For example, they have an answering machine, but turn it off when they're not available! So you can't call them during your lunch (or rather, their long lunches), or out of hours, or when they take a "day off for training", which seems to be extremely frequent. This is a real problem when you need to order medicine refills. Another problem is their "open surgery", which is all morning. The idea is that, instead of the surgery managing its time and booking patients' appointments smartly, patients should take a morning off work, arrive at 8:30 HOPING for an appointment, sit there all morning, and finally get seen. OR not get seen, and take another morning off work the next day. Maybe they need to do this, to SOME extent, but doing it ALL MORNING seems like it just gives up on proper management, shifts the burden onto patients, and wastes proper appointment slots. Another thing I don't like is that they pool their GPs, instead of allowing you to see a single doctor who can get to know you. And worse still, the secretaries are FAR too happy to make decisions on their own, about which doctor they'll let you see, or what treatment you're entitled too, or what you can do over the phone vs. seeing them in person, etc. This is all fine and dandy if you're sick once every 3 years, but for those of us who actually need the services of a GP on a semi-regular basis, it's a nightmare of incompetence and lack of consideration.

No one likes going to the doctor, so if you have to go it may as well be as best an experience as you can manage, and that is what you get here. Appointments are easy enough to get and all staff, from reception to nurses and all the doctors are so nice. While doctors are constantly under pressure to see as many patients as possible under crippling time restraints, you never feel rushed, you are never just handed a prescription and sent on your way and you are listened to. Any time I have attended I have felt understood and respected and felt better! I hope you don't need a doctor, but if you do these guys have it all in healthy spades.
