She was denied ER treatment a few months ago and was taken to Providence Hospital in Hood River where the staff frankly told her later that they thought she was going to die. The ambulance EMTs couldn't believe she was turned away. My friend spent a week in the ICU at Providence, another two weeks as an in-patient, and another several weeks in physical rehab care. I have been employed as a medical social worker and have never seen this level of indifference, which borders on malpractice (I experienced this for myself when I, too, lived in The Dalles and was looking for a general practitioner).
