i was here when i was 11, delirious, and suicidal. they did *not* really help…read more they gave me WAY too many meds, one not even called for, after a single day of them not having much effect. im also a bit concerned because i felt, like, *really* good on one of them and im hoping they wont screw up the rest of my life while i was in the waiting room, i could hear people acting out and it was honestly terrifying. also, you can sometimes hear the adults acting out from the child unit. its super spooky up there sometimes... pretty much the only reason i felt better after coming out of there was because the patients there were awesome. the staff, however, were... less than stellar. we did yoga. im not even sure why we did yoga. yoga generally does not help. also, there was *extremely* loud clapping which i REALLY dont like. i heard about a "no phones" rule, but i wouldnt have needed to hear it as i wouldve inferred it by the amount of staff constantly on their phones, but hiding it in their jacket/shirt ect. i was in the waiting room for ~42 hours, as it was implied that they had an open bed, which is why i didnt go to a different one instead. however, they evidently did not. i felt like a specimen to be observed instead of a suffering patient with a broken mind. it felt like a prison, even though id never been to one. its *incredibly* loud in the lunchroom, and me and a friend there would occasionally ask them to quiet down. however, they would get super loud again in about 3 minutes. also, the food there honestly sucks. except for some ribs i got for dinner on my first day in the waiting room, those were honestly the best ribs ive ever had the therapy stuff was really NOT helpful. id say the only plusses were: my roommate was awesome, i found a friend the first day, those ribs, i got to draw whatever i wanted, and the fact that i got to listen to some music of my choice. overall: would NOT recommend. unless your only priorities are good ribs, then please choose somewhere else to go/send your kid to.

Appalachee Mental Health is a horrible place to go. The pamphlet reads that they strive to treat…read moreclients with dignity. Calling you Mr. or Mrs. Is the only dignity I experienced. I was out my mind when I got there the first time and they locked me in a red lit room and the telepathic "Beta" torment began... The second time was just as bad. I slept in a filthy floor in the waiting room for two days without any of my medications. I threw up every meal because of this. So after the first day, I didn't eat until the third day. While I waited for two days in the waiting room I noticed some of the same people there antagonizing the clients in the waiting room. To my best perception these are street bums who are allowed to come earn a bed for a few days by antagonizing legitimate clients who are experiencing delusional behavior. I fell for this song and dance the first trip, that's how I ended up in the red lit hallway where my "Beta" horror began. I was better prepared the second trip and made it out without being provoked into further delusion. I've had a few breaks from reality since my father passed away. The last experience I was treated at the Tallahassee Memorial Behavior unit. It truly was a dignified experience. They are professional and the facility is much cleaner than Appalachee. There were no street bums provoking and harassing the clients. If your loved one needs mental health support Tallahassee Memorial is the way to go.
