Ok, seriously considering flying to FW just to visit this store again! I had no idea what the situation was but turns out they have different prices each day for ALL clothes!!!! SAY WHAT??? Yes! I went on Saturday and all clothes were $2. Sure you have to sort through them all since there's no organization with size, style, colors but who cares, it is worth it!! I found Banana, Athleta, Free People and more (good thing I was flying on SW so free bag check!) They will yell at you if you try to bring in a drink so leave it in the car or be sneaky. To be fair family thrift outlet has something for everyone if you can find it. The helper doesn't feel comfortable giving this thrift store anything better than a three, was talked into upgrading from a two from my family. It felt overwhelmingly disorganized for the yelper. I think having sizes broken down into colors might be helpful because there's just so much in this warehouse of used clothing. The selection of household items was limited and I think very overpriced. I call them being fond of their own stuff excessive. My suggestion would be to get a little better organized and discard things that don't sell to one section rather than having racks and racks and racks of hanging used glows.(clothing that has lost all sparkle) read more

Love this thrift chain so much; this is the only outlet location in DFW! Outlet meaning it follows the weekly pricing outlined on their website with Thursday being the most expensive day of everything in the store being $2.25 and Wednesday as the cheapest day of everything being 25¢. Prices are applied at the counter; make sure to leave your hangers on the rack before checking out. I've been on a Tuesday afternoon, Tuesday evening, and Wednesday noon. I purchased about 10 items on average every time I come, but of course, this is subject to your taste and what you're looking for! I buy women's tops, women's bottoms, and men's tops. Large parking lot. Notes: NO public bathrooms! NO fitting rooms! NO chairs to sit around! Part of the store has always been blocked off on my experience, likely so that employees have space to sort clothes (as this is an outlet store after all) but this might be different on other days of the week. read more

Family Thrift Outlet is not for me. I went on Wednesday when I had off from work and felt like I was fighting for my life. Everything in the store is $0.25 on Wednesdays, which I think added to the chaos. Most of the store was blocked off, so there were only a select number of racks available and the competition was fierce. It was almost impossible to move throughout the store because of all of the people and shopping carts. I did not see a ton of gems - most of the items were pretty worn out or stained, but I found a few things that I was excited about. Shopping was hard because there were a lot of people going through with carts to block off the aisles and they were just ripping items off hangers and putting them in their carts to purchase. As a result, I found the racks to be pretty picked over. I think this could be a good place to visit if you come early and have the patience to deal with the crowds and the crazy shoppers. I just don't have the patience, so this is a miss for me. read more

So. When I arrive an hour early to wait in line, there's about 30 people in front of me. I'm all excited because I can finally be one of the first 100 to get in...until the families and friends of the 30 in front of me, don't have to stand in line and wait. They just go up to the relatively few in line and join them. Now, there's at least 130 in front of me and others that came early and WAITED IN LINE! That's not right. I'm not the only one aggravated about it, either. They should pass the tickets out, first come, first serve. If you aren't waiting, you go to the back of the line. read more

I didn't really know what to expect, but HOLY COW - this place is awesome!!!! Sometimes you gotta look hard, but it's worth it (even on the "expensive" days lol-) Last visit (on a Tuesday night) I scored a FULL cart, including 20 pairs of shoes, for $29 - can't beat that ANYWHERE!! This is one of my favorite thrifts. Competition is fierce on Thursday when items are $2.25. I prefer to go when items are $1.25/$1.00. You'll usually get a cart and there usually isn't a huge crowd. They have all sizes of men's, women's and kids clothes available and while some of it is tired and sad I have pulled some real gems out of this thrift. Most of the staff speaks Spanish and some English but there are usually a few employees on site that know English and they really try to help you. Pay attention to the signs about leaving hangers on the racks and just be polite and you can't go wrong. read more

I have been going to this location for years and i always love everything I find! My mom always made it a point to go to this store on Wednesday because of that's the best day for deals. Here is how the breakdown goes. On Wednesdays, any and every item in the store is only $0.25! You read that right only 25 cents! Keep in mind that only certain sections of the store are open on Wednesday so you are limited to only bags/backpacks, clothing for guys ladies and guys and that's about it. Cons to going on Wednesday: Mega packed, mean Mexican ladies with 10 little kids crying and running around the store, no shopping carts, smelly old guys and rude bus ladies. People start lining up at 8 am on Wednesday even tho they don't open till 9 or 10 am, then they close at 1 pm that day. So you have to be in line to check out by 12:30 or they won't let you pay after 1 pm! super savage of them. On Sundays when every item is like $1.50 the store does have the other sections open like dresses, coats, houseware, etc. You will have crowded aisles on any day you go either way. In terms of customer service, there are none lol. All the workers are the cashiers, one security guy at the door and maybe 2 ladies taking hangers back to the stock room. The cashiers tend to be kinda rude sometimes because they see soo many people at check out that don't take off the hangers before paying for the items and they have to take them off. But other then that its ok. The store is not very organized in terms of size, everything is mixed up so you really have to look. I personally don't like going on Wednesday but i do like going on the weekends because i get better deals and less crying little kids lol. By far the worst thrift store I've ever had the displeasure of stepping into. We drove across town based on information that it was a great store. Instead we walked into a giant mess. We went to the men's section only to find it was women's clothing. Looking around the store everything was mixed together. It's not difficult to separate clothing. I went 30 min before closing, no expectations but just killing time before going to my hotel; I'm from la and this place has a good selection for shoes. The workers here are so passive aggressive even for me an LA girl. They turn off the lights completely 10 min before closing to signal its closing time then they gradually turn them back on. They scream at you to take off the hangers but don't tell you where to put them if you ask they just stare at you like they want you to die. It made me so angry i wanted to punch them in their stupid face. Overall I didn't mind the disorganization but after seeing the attitude of these women I now overstand why they probably don't feel like organizing or even taking off the hangers themselves. This past Friday I ventured out to Family Thrift Outlet for the first time ever after reading some great reviews here from my fellow Yelpers. I only worked half a day that Friday and thought it would be a great opportunity to go on a thrifting spree! The drive there was definitely a good 45 minutes from where I live, however I definitely deem it worthy of the drive to and back. This is basically an Outlet store for thrift stores where they carry everything other thrift stores have given them as well. Needless to say, upon walking in there are rows upon rows upon rows of endless clothing. Absolute heaven to a really thrifty thrifter at heart. I definitely don't mind digging for a great deal! I went on a Friday and everything was $1.50! What a BARGAIN. Every day of the week is a different price. Just a couple of tips to know though before going: -Make sure you wear clothing that is easy to try stuff on over since they do not have dressing rooms which is most likely how they can sell everything super cheap. I just tried stuff on over what I wore that day to kind of get somewhat of an idea, but you can probably eyeball your size pretty well if you are used to that. -Also, make sure that when you grab something you leave the hanger on the rack instead of bringing it with you to the check out counter. --They do sort the clothes by gender, but definitely not by size so you will be looking through all the racks so make sure you have a couple of hours to dig for some good buys. I stayed for a decent 2.5 hours just going through everything and came out with a bagful of 12 items for only $18. What a steal! I am no doubt completely in love and will absolutely be back again many times over. If you like a great cheap deal for your thrifted items, and don't mind digging for them, I guarantee you will find some great thrifty treasures for your wearing pleasure. :) read more

I really want to give this place a 4.5 but no half star available. I went ahead and gave it a 5 because the price is very reasonable. I went on a Monday when everything in the store is $1/piece. That's a great price since I've paid up to $30 at Buffalo Exchange for secondhand clothes. There are a lot of merchandises, plenty of wool/silk/linen which is what I soothe after. The store wasn't pack but there were a good number of shoppers. I will certainly return on a Wednesday when the price is the cheapest at .25 cent a piece. The negatives is that it is very unorganized. There are no clear section for dresses/shirts/pants etc. they're all mixed together so you'll miss out if you don't check everything. There weren't much of a selection for dresses as in quality and quantity. The store at that time was what seemed like 80% knitted sweaters, that's a negative because I was hoping to find dresses and blouses. Those are my two negatives but even with that I still walked away with some finds for 10 items for $10 and tax. Can't wait to fix them up and wear them. read more

This is the only thrift store I shop at anymore. They have an enormous selection of clothing in good condition. I went in for jeans and came out with 8 pair. Old Navy, Gloria Vanderbuilt, St Johns Bay. I paid $1.75 a pair. I went on a Saturday and it wasn't crowded. I am 75 yrs old and had a very pleasant shopping experience. read more

I went one Saturday morning and it happens to be $1.50 everything. Oh my! I was just meaning to come in to get an Ugly Sweater for a heist as party I'll be attending this week and I ended up leaving with 5 different decent sweaters. I *love* this place. Other reviewers have already covered the basics... prices start at $1.75 per item on Thursdays and drop a quarter every day until they are $0.25 each on Wednesdays. I personally like going on Sundays when the selection is still decent but the crowds are not there (Wednesdays and Thursdays are a madhouse!) All kinds of interesting stuff. I've picked up Banana Republic sweaters and Chico's dresses with the tags still on. Jeans to cut up for crafting. Tacky Christmas sweaters to put away for parties later in the year. You never know what you'll find. My tips - come with NO expectations. The racks are crowded and the place is kind of dirty. I lock my purse in my trunk and just take a stack of $1's with me. If you need to "try on", wear something easy (leggings and a tank top with a big cardigan). Be prepared to dig. Expect NO customer service and a variable climate (I've been in there when it feels like a walk-in freezer and when it felt like a giant oven). Take a friend so you can divide and conquer (and give each other opinions since there is no trying on or mirrors). Realize you will be surrounded by an interesting group - both professional resellers (these are the people who line up on Thursday mornings prepared to dig for Coach bags and designer jeans to resell on Ebay) and people who have nothing and just need to clothe their families. Watch your belongings around the former (they will grab things out of your hands) and try to watch your snark around the latter (no matter how horribly tacky you think something is, poverty isn't a laughing matter). I found out about this place on the Internet. Imagine being the OUTLET store for a small chain of Thrift Stores......How interesting does THAT sound? Here is how it works. Family Thrift has 4 stores in the Metroplex. Once an item has been at one of the stores, if it doesn't sell, it is taken to the Outlet. Everything at the Outlet is one price. The store gets stocked on Wednesday nights/Thursdays morning. On Thursdays, everything in the store is $1.75. The price gets reduced by a quarter every day until Wednesdays when everything there is $.25. They empty the place out Wednesday night, restock, and start the process all over again. How about that for a business model. KISS at work. I went with my buddy, Linda, a bargain hunter with borderline professional credentials. We both agree that this place will forever after be on our permanent list of places to check out periodically. We had done a Home Inspection on a house in Haltom City that is under contract. We had a great lunch over by the stock yard. We had about 20 minutes to go check this place out. It only took minutes to realize that we had stumbled into something really good. For starters, the place is enormous. The pictures on the website have to have been taken at another store. This store has to be an old grocery store or other large retail building. The clothing isn't really sorted into any categories (and I bet by Tuesday the place gets REALLY interesting). I spent $9. I got a good quality corduroy dress that I am going to make into a pillowcase (try buying 2 yards of good fabric for $1.50), 2 tee-shirts, a sun dress and 3 jackets. You have to walk in with low expectations. This is after all, the wholesale outlet for their chain stores. In other words, what you'll find here are the REJECTS that DIDN'T SELL at full asking price the first time around. If you're looking to score a bunch of designer label, vintage, etc. type stuff you're setting yourself up for disapointment. This can be a great place to find plain and simple wardrobe staples though. And if you're crafty, this is also a good place to find t shirts, jeans, etc for giving a DIY makeover. Fresh stock is put out once a week - on Thursdays. On Thursdays everything is $2.00. From there prices drop daily...all the way down to 25 cents on Wednesdays. Biggest pro: A thrift store that actually knows the meaning of thrift and doesn't have delusions of being an 'upscale resale' shop. Biggest con: This place is a haven for idiotic parents who bring their hoards of screaming brats with them, then allow them to roam free range. Hide & go seek in the clothing racks, games of tag up and down the isles....there's been too many times when I've damn near tripped on a kid because it's asses to elbows in there as it is, and who thinks to *look on the ground* in case of squirming children?!? Amazing deals! I can't believe I was able to get 12 clothing items for $3.25!!! Like the 1st reviewer mentioned, the items gets cheaper through out the week - Thu ($1.75) to Wed ($.25). I went on a Wed, so everything was only a quarter!!! They have soooooo many things, and it can be overwhelming! Make sure you have a lot of time available if you want to check this place out. It wasn't too crowded when I was there, but I overheard other people talking about how usually there are more people. Either way, you should try to go on a week day at some unusual hour to beat the crowd. Ok, couple of things that you should be aware: 1) This is a thrift outlet. It means you should have no expectation for nice customer service and store condition. 2) Customer who shops here are more aggressive. If you don't pay attention to your cart, people may take things out from your cart. 3) They cover up all the mirrors, so people can't stand around and try things on. 4) All the clothes are not organized, so you will have to go through everything.
