I know that a campground is more than just clean, well maintained bathrooms and showers, but this place sets the bar in that critically important area. They offer several individual bathrooms, all with their own private showers. Spotlessly clean, too! As for the RV spots, there aren't many, and they're not very private, but that's okay for a night. The cabins are clean and comfortable, however they have no running water, so you'll be enjoying the aforementioned restrooms and showers. Beautiful setting, with a stunning sunset view. This review is for one of the 8 motel rooms. If you are looking for a comfort level-up from camping, but still feel like you are camping, this is the place for you. I decided on the motel based on Yelp reviews and because we were not camping but on our way to Washington DC, and Fancy Gap was the perfect place to stop on the way. I also wanted a private bathroom, so I did not choose a cabin. This campground/cabins/motel is located about 6 miles off of Interstate 77, with the Blue Ridge Parkway within view and the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background. The motel is located up a quite steep gravel hill maybe about 1/4 mile from the campground and cabins, so it was much quieter than the campground area, which had quite a few noisy kids. The motel room was tiny (basically like a cabin but with a shower just large enough to stand in, toilet and sink) and very clean. We did see 2 spiders, but that is to be expected in the woody, outdoor setting. I appreciated the ample-sized refrigerator with a little freezer and microwave, but there was no table, chair, or even beside table in the room, so we had to eat at the picnic table (with a fire pit next to it), situated on the steep hill. It is a beautiful woods-surrounded setting, but hard to balance perched on the hill, pretty buggy, and would have not worked well if it had been raining. We enjoyed viewing the sunset and mountains in the distance while sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch, sipping green tea and hot chocolate provided by the motel. It was quite warm during the June day, but in the evening, it got quite chilly. The A/C worked well as did the heater at night, so we were comfortable. The queen bed was neither comfortable nor uncomfortable. My son said the futon was pretty comfy, but we had to bring our own bedding for it, or we would have had to pay extra. The biggest negative about this motel are the extremely thin walls--thankfully the people next door settled down about the same time we did because it sounded like we had roommates with only thin walls and locked connecting door separating us, and i felt bad every time the floor loudly creaked when I got up in the night and early morning. Also, we were looking forward to walking the wooded trails around the campground, but they were not well-maintained and overgrown, so our walk was pretty short. We did enjoy a short walk through their apple orchard. read more

Very quiet and comfy place to stay if you are doing the parkway. Restaurants are close by if needed and they have a lot of amenities available in the office. We stayed in the motel and had plenty of room for my wife, myself and the dogs. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a stopping point on the parkway. We had a wonderful 3 night 4 day stay at Fancy Gap Cabin and campgrounds. Like many of the the reviews have said, the grounds are kept exceptionally clean and honestly it was the least buggy place I've ever camped in my life I don't think any of us got bitten in the 3 nights we stayed. The bathrooms are always clean and so are the showers. The owners bring by fresh firewood and charge it to your account if you want it which is so convenient! The owners are extremely friendly and welcoming. I can't express that enough! We were worried traveling to an unknown area not knowing if we would feel welcomed but every single camper and the owners were so friendly and kind. Many of the campers that left before us gave us the firewood they weren't using! Very family friendly as well! As soon as we arrived the owners offered my 3 year old some free icecream for Independence Day and gave her some little fireworks (sparkler things). We had a great time cooking at camp and traveling to nearby parks! I also forgot to mention I'm 32 weeks pregnant and slept extremely comfortably on the beds and the bathhouse was close enough to the cabins that I was able to run to the bathroom a million times without being too put out the sheets, linens, coffee pot and fridge were also very clean. The cabin smelled clean and nice as well. There's also a laundry center where you can wash clothes and the little store they have on sight is great for book swaps and buying things you may have forgotten:) we also loved the little vintage soda machine out front of the store for $1.00. Our family stayed in one of the cabins at a halfway point in the way to OBX. It was the perfect amount of off the highway to have a nice isolated evening but close enough to the highway that we could jump back on in no time. The cabin was beautiful and sat next to a peach orchard. There was a really nice lawn space behind the cabin with a picnic table and fire ring. Two Adirondack chairs were a nice addition for a lovely evening sitting outside. Inside there was both a bee and futon for up to 4 sleepers. The bath house was well maintained and smelled great! Everything was in great condition. We will definitely stay here again. read more

Wonderful Stay! This is our 3rd stay at this campground but the first time in writing a review. The campground has a variety of camping options, tent, cabin, motel and RV full hookups. This is favorite spot for us. We have been traveling around the US now for 3 years. I prefer smaller campgrounds with all the amenities and this one matches everything on my list. The campground is very clean with grassy hills and beautiful views. The Blue Ridge Parkway scenic overlooks are within easy walking distance and the foliage is amazing, so green with bountiful wildflowers everywhere. Sites are gravel side by side and surrounded by woods and grass meadows. It is quiet and peaceful and very pet friendly! We'll definitely be back!! read more

Stayed Sept. 2 - Sept 8, 2019. Some of the nicest, friendliest hosts I have ever experienced. Campsites very clean and level and you are not stacked in close together. Cable was the best reception I have ever experienced in a campground. Fire pits were very nice. They also deliver firewood, pizza and BBQ to your campsite! The bathrooms/showers were spotless! Loved getting "Flocked" with the flamingos! Donations to to Kids Camp (may be called something else). It is for kids with cancer to go to camp. Definitely on our list of places to return!!! read more

Funny, the area gets super thick fog super fast which is kinda freaky but very cool. The gravel site with pretty level and the parking was easy to maneuver. Riding the blue ridge parkway on a motorcycle and we opted for a cabin due to impending weather. Awesome little cabins! Lots of windows for airflow, coffee machine, microwave, mini fridge, futon and a couple shelves. Strong overhead fan and a great deck for sitting outside. Super comfy beds with linens provided. Immaculate bathrooms and showers (personal toilets and showers in each locked room). Owners live on site and are very friendly so showing up later in the day as a walk on wasn't an issue at all. My family of 5 stayed at this campground for my sons 3rd birthday. The owners were so gracious. They allowed family members from the area to visit. The bathhouse was the cleanest I have ever seen. I loved the way they were set up. Basically individual bathrooms that allowed enough space to bring children in for a scrub. Another thing I consider very important is the fact they have a desire to be as green as possible. Amazing privately owned/operated facility. Be careful not to confuse this gem of a place with other campgrounds. One must travel a little past mile marker 202 on the parkway. It's amazing. read more

Camped here twice with a travel trailer. This is a beautiful place for the real camp experience & enjoying nature & quiet time. Seems like there is always a nice breeze. The bath rooms are private and CLEAN. Beautiful trees & orchards surround the place. The owners are on site and are very helpful & friendly. I have just returned from the most amazing weekend at Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground. We pulled our travel trailer up from Raleigh. I77 makes it an easy and safe tow up to the blue ridge parkway at 3000 ft. Upon arriving you realize this is a small campground on a huge property. Everything is spaced just right to be convenient yet preserving privacy for everyone. The Cabins line the ridge by the orchards, the tent camping is secluded along the tree line and the hotel is on the far corner. We proceeded to the RV area. It's very nicely maintained with a picnic table and fire ring. Each site has electric , water and sewer. The bath houses are a collection of private rooms each with a toilet, sink and shower. Plenty of room to change. They are immaculate. No bugs, clean, and plenty of hot water. Was surprised to find wifi in this remote location and it was adequate for our needs and very handy as we had no cell service. My Skype calls worked just fine. We had a beautiful sunset one night. If you are a star gazer, the light pollution is really low and the sky was on fire. Beautiful. Fancy Gap is a small town. I mean very small. We found all the necessities. Hillsville is a gorgeous town only a few miles away. If you need something more substantial, Galax and Mt. Airy are not far. We had our two dogs with us as did many other campers. I'm always worried my dogs will act up and be a nuisance. However, they made friends with the neighbors and we did "pack walks" around the property and trails. It is very quiet at night and so peaceful around a campfire. They are dog friendly here, but do keep a close watch on the basic rules of leashes and potty clean up to ensure it's fun for everyone. If you like cider and or mead tasting there are a number nearby. The music center is just down the BRP going south and Mabry's mill is just the north. I'm not sure how are visit could have been much better. My only complaint was with the thunderstorm that rolled thru at 3am. You won't regret it. read more

My husband and I have stayed here twice now and each time it has been amazing. My parents live in Cana and it is by far the best place to stay. We have satyed in local hotels as well, being in our 30's we prefer that to a cabin, but the cabin had everything we need and more. The cabins offer a beautiful view, clean sleeping, and very peaceful sleep. We have stayed in a small cabin that had a small breakfast table with minimal kitchen, and we have stayed in a larger one with full kitchen and living room space. We loved them both. Would recommend this place to families and couples. read more
