We still had a twenty-minute drive to the lodge when we reached the North gate. The drive was pretty, though, and passed quickly. The circular driveway in front of the lodge was clogged with cars, forcing us to park down the road a bit. No one was around to welcome us, and finding someone took us a bit. Once we did, the valets quickly took care of us, and we were checked in. Our room on the second floor overlooked the 18th green and a valley on the backside of the lodge. It was terrific: large and spacious, with lots of wood and chunky lodge-style furnishings. The bathroom was huge, with a large tub, separate shower, and his-and-hers sinks. The minibar came stocked with complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and some snacks. While staying here, we enjoyed their astronomy presentation at the top of the silo, walking on several trails through the nearby woods, time in the spa, and making smores out back by the fire pit in the evening with the other guests. There was a special cocktail hour with apps and drinks, and a chance to talk to some of the local providers of food and items to the hotel. They do an excellent job of using local sources for the lodge. Dining was top notch, except at the Stables family-style restaurant. The Stables was a disappointment. Our other meals though in the lodge were top notch. The staff at Primland is the best, and they are what make this place so special. Come visit in the summer and enjoy the cooler temperatures of the mountains.

Food was good but pricey. $125/dinner at least just for the meal and then include drinks!!!! Yikes, They are in a rebuilding phase. Next summer will be much better when their new outdoor pool will be open. Currently, only have an indoor pool currently with lots of chlorine in the hot tub that burned my eyes. That was a bummer. Spa was good as mentioned above but the robes were all tattered. That was a shame. Maybe next summer they will buy new robes for spa with everything else they are doing. Beds were great but need to be flipped since they slope to the left as people wear them down getting out of them. Over all cost for 4 days was in the multi thousand dollar range. Not enough to do for that much to be spent. Won't be going back.

The fairway is probably 60-70 feet below you and stretches out towards the tree line. The par 3 2nd comes back a little to your left, and then you see the third hole as it wraps around water just below. Absolutely stunning. It's a tough track and I would say is fun from every set of tees (black, blue, white, gold, and even the red tees). Water comes into play on about a dozen holes. Highlights are the first tee box/first hole (it's a reachable par 5), the third as it wraps around a pond, the second half of the par 5 5th hole, the eighth hole looks like it's on top of the world, the views from the 10th tee box, the thirteenth hole (a brute of a par 5), and some of the best par 4s in Virginia (holes 15, 16, and 18). I stayed in the smaller of the two lodges that overlook the 18th green. We had a suite with a master with a king and another room with two double beds. Lots of space, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a porch. It was also the cleanest room I may have ever stayed in. Some of the nicest views were from the porch that included the storm that rolled through at night and the fog that followed in the morning. There is only one restaurant on property and the food was excellent. Love that the dessert menu was never fixed. I had an ice cream cookie sandwich that was excellent. The people here truly make this place special. Whoever cleaned our room deserves a raise. Bo (the head pro) and Sherrie in the pro shop are maybe the nicest people I have met playing golf, and that is saying something. The wait staff and grounds crew were all extremely nice as well. I know there is a 5-star resort down the road that I visited for a bit, but I would much rather be here every day of the week. (Not saying I wouldn't turn down a free stay and play at the other place.) Needless to say this is now on my list for places to have a relaxing weekend getaway filled with great golf.

I enjoyed my time here and, in general, I think this is a great resort for the Triad (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point). I was born and raised in High Point and remember when Grandover opened in 1999. After 27 years, I finally got to visit. From the golf course to the hotel, I could tell the property has seen better days (e.g., details in course conditioning and building maintenance). As I wrote in my review for the golf course separately, this is not uncommon for golf facilities that were built during the last golf course boom in the 80s and 90s. The hotel is still quite nice, though, and is on the higher, more luxurious end. I checked the 2026 listing of AAA Four Diamond hotels and Grandover is still on the list, along with the O.Henry Hotel, Proximity Hotel, and Kimpton Cardinal Hotel as the only four hotels in the Triad with that status. Cocktail hour and dinner took place in the Grandville Ballroom. I guesstimate there were about 150-175 attendees. The ballroom worked well for this event, including all A/V aspects. The buffet-style dinner was delicious; in particular, the short rib and cobbler. The bartenders at the hotel bar, 1808 Bar (named after the year the city of Greensboro was founded), were initially overwhelmed with the post-dinner rush. The bar appeared to be decently stocked and my drink, the Hugo Spritz (St-Germain, champagne, club soda) was refreshing. 1808 Bar is located right in front of the hotel restaurant, Finial. I stayed in Room 421, on the fourth floor, with a view of the fountains, parking lot, and a stretch of I-85 which I have driven on countless times over the years. I really liked my room. It was luxe and spacious. Consistent with resorts in this tier, some of the finer features included robes (no logo, though), a nice mini bar, personalized TV guest screen, and rain shower head. The bed was super comfy. The cost for one night was $249. After sales tax (6.75%) and occupancy tax (6%), the total was $280.75. The room charge was "resort fee exempt," so it was discounted from a normal stay since I stayed with a group. Service was professional and speedy. The bellhops were particularly welcoming, friendly, and eager to serve. The art gallery and golf mural rotunda are neat. My only criticism is that after golf, everyone tried to shower at the same time, which meant no hot water for many. I waited a long time for my shower water to heat up. However, the next morning when I took another shower, the water heated up in a normal amount of time. I think if you plan on cooking, have a 4x4 vehicle, and don't want to do much other than cook and enjoy the views in your condo, this is a great choice. But we are active with our kids and it was a chore to get on and off the property.

It is definitely not for anyone apprehensive of heights. The road to the complex is extremely narrow that makes me question if an emergency vehicle or fire truck could navigate it. In addition to it being narrow, it is a windy road on a cliff with no guard rails. I had a panic attack on the drive up; thankfully, I wasn't the driver. When we turned to road with the gated entrance, it was gravel, overgrown, and we couldn't even see past the gate. And this was at 5:30pm with full daylight. I was so panicked that my husband thought I was going to have a heart attack. We immediately turned around & made our way back down the horrid road, riding the brake the entire time & with a vehicle right on our bumper who apparently wasn't as upset as we were. Thank goodness no vehicle came in the opposite direction. I do feel there should have been some hint as to this "feature" of the facility. If I had known of this, there is no way I would have chosen this place for our well-deserved restful weekend. We ended up going back home & lost our money.
