Stayed on 1/5/19 When I first heard of THF, I envisioned a hotel in a town with a population of about 425 people a place similar to " The Shady Rest Hotel" from the old TV show, "Petticoat Junction", a TV show that was on the air about 100 years ago, (feels like it with today's media and technology) lol, but boy was I wrong!!! This place is unbelievable, built in 2007, and expanded in 2014, the place is eco friendly with green technology, using environmentally-friendly materials in it's construction. The roof has solar panels installed. Just off the check-in lobby there is a beautifully furnished, and extremely comfortable sitting room that is a pleasure to sit in and enjoy a cup of coffee, or tea after a long ride. I had a nice chat with the night clerk who checked me in, a personable lad from Manchester England, I mentioned that I had just arrived back from Great Britain the week before (my second home). The rooms are spotless with state-of-the-art interiors, wireless wall phones, multiple outlets for appliances, and USB connections, ( never enough in your normal hotel accommodations. There is a microwave and fridge, two items that you find in a lot of chain hotels; but a Cuisinart coffeemaker instead of those normal little crappy ones I normally find, wow!! A lot of thought was put into the rooms at The Hotel Floyd down to the detailed information on how to use the remote control, and the recycling bin in the closet (the directions were how to use the TV only and not the recycling bin). All of the rooms have different unique names such as; Wooley Jumpers (RM.109), Republic of Floyd (Rm.113), Foggy Ridge (Rm.112). I stayed in Josephine Porter (Rm.208). The rooms located in the back of the hotel have rocking chairs to sit outside, on a hot Southern evening, and the grounds are beautifully landscaped. There are also suites in the back that are pet friendly. The hotel rates include breakfast. While checking out I asked the nice ladies at the desk about any other attractions, or places of interest in the area, thats how I found Five Mile Mountain Distillery (corn whiskey) Floyd's first distillery since prohibition, and The Wildwood Farms General Store, (my next two reviews) The Hotel Floyd is quite an anomaly in a town that has such a small population. The town of Floyd, although it's small in size, has some very eclectic stores ( like The Republic of Floyd Emporium) and some great art galleries.

Who knew that there was such a place as Floyd Va? Really! But there is and in this cool little town As you make your way off State Route 8 just around the corner lies this fabulous Hotel hidden in the middle of the town. The outside area around the Hotel includes a paver patio area to the left, a small amphitheater on the right side, and wrap around porches. So there are plenty of areas to hangout, relax and enjoy the fresh air. As you make your way into the lobby to the left is a small room with coffee, another sitting area and some local art and jewelry that's available for purchase. Straight ahead and to the right is the dining area, which they were nice enough to open up for us to use for dinner as we brought in some pizza and salads for out group. The included breakfast was similar to what you would get at a Hampton, eggs, bacon, biscuits, gray, cereal, etc. My room was awesome it had a nice size sitting area as you walk in and a small sink, fridge, and microwave. It had two bedrooms, one with two twin beds and one with a king size. The king was very comfortable. It also had two full bathrooms. The whole Hotel was well kept and very clean, the staff were very inviting and friendly. My only complaint was that I was only there for one night. I would have loved to stay and check out the town and spend some time just sitting back relaxing. Speaking of exploring there is an old cemetery just behind the hotel, it has some very old graves even some old Civil War Confederate grave markers. Some cool history to take in for the History buffs. Anyhow I sure do look forward to visiting again, if your looking for a place to relax and unplug Hotel Floyd is definitely the place. BTW there was zero phone signal unless you decide to use the free WIFI, but I recommend seize the moment and just unplug. Ditch the leash.

We did a split stay between a cabin and the lodge and both had their merits. We still had a twenty-minute drive to the lodge when we reached the North gate. The drive was pretty, though, and passed quickly. The circular driveway in front of the lodge was clogged with cars, forcing us to park down the road a bit. No one was around to welcome us, and finding someone took us a bit. Once we did, the valets quickly took care of us, and we were checked in. Our room on the second floor overlooked the 18th green and a valley on the backside of the lodge. It was terrific: large and spacious, with lots of wood and chunky lodge-style furnishings. The bathroom was huge, with a large tub, separate shower, and his-and-hers sinks. The minibar came stocked with complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and some snacks. While staying here, we enjoyed their astronomy presentation at the top of the silo, walking on several trails through the nearby woods, time in the spa, and making smores out back by the fire pit in the evening with the other guests. There was a special cocktail hour with apps and drinks, and a chance to talk to some of the local providers of food and items to the hotel. They do an excellent job of using local sources for the lodge. Dining was top notch, except at the Stables family-style restaurant. The Stables was a disappointment. Our other meals though in the lodge were top notch. The staff at Primland is the best, and they are what make this place so special. Come visit in the summer and enjoy the cooler temperatures of the mountains.

Carved out of an old…read moregrocery warehouse facility, this hotel has 32 hotel rooms - and retains the spirit of its original, vintage design. It has an on-site bar and restaurant that clearly is a favorite for the locals as well. This is NOT the hotel for you if you're a late eater or a light sleeper. PROS: -So ridiculously cheap compared to what the quality is. If this hotel was located in a metropolis, it would easily be hundreds a night. -I love the decor of the place. This place really feels unique. While the colors definitely get a bit dated (all of the food, exposed wooden beams, etc.) and some of the chairs are two, the additional modern textures they've added (mirrors, chairs, rugs, etc.) help pull it all together. Rooms are a bit dark, but all of this additional detail could make this beautiful for pictures. -Everything has a lot of character. Honestly, that's just a big part of it. This isn't a carbon-copy hotel that you tune out. Every floor has unique chairs on it - a unique design. Rooms are all unique. There are fun common areas tucked away on some floors for you to relax in; it's like exploring a new place and it's fun. -Water pressure is perfect and the hot water is HOT. Holycrap hot. You can easily burn yourself. No lukewarm water here. -Two bathroom sinks. It's so odd - but in a cool way. Instead of side-by-side sinks, the bathroom sinks are opposite one another in a small entrance to the toilet/shower separate room. Great for sharing spaces with someone who keeps things in a different way than you do (messy/clean, etc.) -Beautiful outdoor eating and seating for the restaurant and bar. I'm unsure if it's ever tableside service (we got there late), but we were able to take our drinks to sit outside. There's not much of a view, but it's extremely spacious and comfy. -Complimentary breakfast in the morning was seriously legit. Not just cold muffins and pour-your-own cereal. There was even prepared chicken and waffles! One of the best free breakfasts we've seen. CONS: -Every. Single. Noise. will be heard. Have you ever been in the basement of an older house - and you can hear every step that someone takes on the main floors? That's this hotel. We were woken up with loud creaking when our upstairs patrons got up to pee in the middle of the night. Add this to the fact that this hotel is RIGHT next to a train (we're talking train tracks located right next to the driveway), and this is really, really, really not the place if you're a light sleeper. It'll drive you up the wall. -Both of our bathroom sinks drained super slowly. Just to spit out toothbrushing water, it'd get backed up. -Small hotel room hallways. Jackson Park Inn has an elevator for helping you get up its three floors, but the hotel room hallways themselves are extremely small; one person at a time small. -If you're self-conscious about walking on creaky floors, this is definitely not a good place to be. -Bar AND restaurant closed promptly at 9pm. They were nice enough to get us a beer pour before they closed up for good, but if you're someone who likes late-night food or drinks, this'll be an issue. -Parking lot is mostly taken up by bar and restaurant locals if you arrive between the late afternoon and 9pm. This is aggravating as a hotel patron; we got the last spot in the lot around 8:45PM - and by 10pm, there were tons of spots.

So we packed our bags, brought some car games and hit the road. Arriving we didn't see any signs to the Inn so it was a little confusing and weird driving up to the Inn. Keri was fantastic and first thing she did was show us to our room and took us on a little tour of the place. She gave us a lot of insight onto the house and its previous owners and how old it is. There is so much character and each room and the way they have each of them setup brings our the personality of each room. I mean, we didn't hear one squeak in any floorboard! Talkin' rustic and solid - a wonderful combination. This Inn has impeccable cleanliness and tasteful décor of every room. We came with another couple who are regular guests at B&B's all over the USA. They were decisively impressed. We came for the nearby Yadkin Valley wineries but found simply hanging out at A Mighty Oak to be quite pleasant. We sat on rocking chairs on the 2nd floor covered porch as we read or just talked as the stars emerged in the sky. Then we ascended to the 3rd floor for games (ping-pong, board games, TV sports) and reviewed the substantial bookcase. Of course, a huge facet of any B&B is the proprietor. We all recognize a passion for excellence when we experience one. It's there in spades with Todd, showing up in attentiveness to our needs and a pleasant, playful grace about him and his wife Lisa. And we saw his excellence in that 2nd "B" in B&B. We're talking as close to farm-to-table as it gets since the B&B's rear acreage is home to cows, chicken and plants. And, uh FYI, no smell in the air. Match freshness with culinary excellence and you've got an Rx for memorable breakfasts. I mean, I had never had a Scottish Egg and can't wait to see what Todd has up his sleeve next time! A passion for excellence shows up in every aspect of a business, but when it's a B&B, it can become quite special since they're sort of personal - I mean one actually lives there albeit for one or two nights. A Mighty Oak is indeed one special place. We will definitely return for our Mighty Oak state-of-mind fix!!

We make routine trips with Blacksburg as a pit stop and will be bookmarking this as a preference for our overnights there, for sure. Arriving late and not lingering in the area next day, we admittedly picked the least pricey of the several mid-level, familiar chains, but got real value for our buck and believe this would be a terrific and reasonable-priced hub even for multi-night stays. Just a 5-min drive to the Main Street shops & restaurants, though night arrivals be forewarned even the "late-night" options there were shut up tight by 10:30, so we had to grab sandwiches at the 24/7 grill at the nearby Sheetz. Also, as we checked in, I did spot good, basic stocking of the snack food and other options in the hotel "market." Overall notes: This hotel is what we call "house proud" -- the managers and staff seem truly invested in the physical plant and in customer service. It appeared scrupulously clean, with small details thoughtfully made, and everyone was professional and friendly, even late-night staffers. As someone else noted, care and a sweet-natured creativity is spent on decor at each entry, even the back. I don't necessarily require happy little displays, but I do appreciate that those and the well-maintained landscaping reflect the attention paid to upkeep. While there's no grand view, it's not an industrial area (small strip malls and well-known chains nearby) and the trees planted all around the parking lot screen from the road. We had a fifth floor (topmost) room and it was quiet -- no road noise at all. I noted that room numbers ending in 18/19 are closest to elevators and might be a little noisier. The rooms were very tidy, as noted. (Passed my routine bedbug testing.) no signs of prior tenants -- I think it's a pet-friendly hotel but none of my allergies triggered. Clearly remodeled in this decade, spacious with a sofa in our King room. Table-tops on both sides of the bed with both outlets and USB slots. Lamp on one side, lots of conveniently placed outlets. Also a discreet nightlight in the bathroom -- MICH appreciated detail most chains overlook. Plenty of thick, fluffy towels. Keurig-style coffee maker with laughably short cord but multiple pods and lots of cups. As reviews noted, both light-filtering and blackout curtains. Easy to control temperatures. The wall unit was a little noisy when it kicked in, as they often are in hotels. It did not wake us but if you're a super light sleeper, you might need ear plugs for that. PLUS: Very comfy bed with varied filling pillows. The best sleep I've had this trip, including at our hosts' home. I'll say again: Excellent value for the money.
