Definitely not the best nail place I've ever been to, but it's definitely no where near the worst. It's hard to give a rating solely based on one nail technician, this is because your nails are dependent on the experience of your nail technician. I was fortunate enough to have two technicians, one being the owner who did an amazing job on my pedicure. However, for my manicure, I was helped by someone else. I don't think the nail technician that helped me with my manicure was well experienced. She also seemed a little distracted when doing my nails. I showed her the nails I wanted and at first she said okay then later convinced me into getting French tip by being pushy about it. I told her I just wanted my nails to look natural because I am graduating and she insisted I do French tip and I wasn't sure if that's maybe what she's familiar with doing...so I just went along with it to be polite. Unfortunately, I was not very impressed with my nails even though the nail tech seemed adamant about one particular style of nail (French tip which also costs 10 dollars more). My best advice is just sit and pay attention to who is being requested the most of who has the most clients booked, this typically means the nail technician is skilled and in high demand. I might come back here but I will ask for a different technician. read more

I was really excited to try this place because of all the great reviews. When making my appointment, I mistakenly told her that I just needed it on my real nails and "had nothing on." When I sat in the chair, she was very rude because I needed tips and she was upset I got it wrong over the phone. I had two different women going back and forth doing my nails and each woman had something to say about how long my fingers are. I had a great first time at Fancy Nails! They were so kind about my questions and were very attentive to all of the customers in the store and out of the store - they even answered the phone while my toes were drying to make another appointment with a requested employee. Absolute worst nail salon in Madison, WI and probably the worst in the whole world! They burned my skin! The owner Nina is u unprofessional, rude, and downright nasty. She soaked both my hands in a bag full of acetone to remove my acrylic nails. After 20 minutes of soaking, I said my hands were burning. Nina became aggressive and started yelling at me uncontrollably. She was screaming at me saying this is the process and if I don't like it I could leave. Even her other staff tried to calm her down because she was being extremely unreasonable, but she wouldn't stop. She refused to finish the job of taking my acrylic nails off. Her other staff member were trying to help me but she told them not to. I was in so much pain I had to go to urgent care and they prescribed me steroids to help ease the burns/irritant dermatitis on both my hands caused by the excessive soaking in acetone. This is not my first time getting acrylics. Every other salon soaks just the nails, not the entire hand in chemicals! My hands hurt so bad. I have never been treated so horribly at any establishment in my entire 40 years. Nina should be ashamed of her behavior and learn some manners and be professional. When a customer is telling you they are in pain - you should be understanding not a psycho!!! Please go through all the 1 star reviews and you will see they are known for their mistreatment of customers and also causing infections and burns!!! They need to be evaluated by the Wisconsin Dane County Department of Heath and Safety to regulate their below average services. Under Wisconsin law - if a customer complains of a burn or laceration the licensee shall stop and wash the area. Which Nina failed to do!! 1. "When any patron or licensee is exposed to blood by scissors cut, razor cut, needle stick, laceration or other exposure to broken skin or a mucous membrane, the licensee shall stop, thoroughly wash the exposed area or wound on the patron's or the licensee's body with soap and water, and disinfect the exposed area or wound with a topical antiseptic such as iodine, 70% isopropyl alcohol, or 6% stabilized hydrogen peroxide or equivalent. In the case of mucous membrane exposure, the licensee shall wash or rinse the affected area with plenty of water." Wis. Admin. Code Cos. § 4.05(1).  Entitled, money hungry nail salon with no class or respect. Absolutely disgusting service and establishment. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! Save your money and your health! Stay away from these people. read more

They literally scammed me. This is one of the worst nail salons I've been to. I went in for a routine acrylic fill and when they were already working on my nails they told me the couldn't fill them.. and proceeded to remove them and said they had to put an entire new set on and that it would be about $100 (plus tip would've been $120). I told them no and told them to just do gel, this was after they were working on my nails so I wasn't in the position to not get anything done. They then proceeded to tell me that it would cost $60 for gel and acrylic removal- WHICH I NEVER WANTED AND DIDNT COME IN FOR. They proceeded to rip my acrylics off which were fairly new, without even soaking them. IT WAS SEVERELY PAINFUL. Every time I told them it hurt and pulled my hand away, they would grab my hand again and continue. I simply was just trying to come in for a fill. The gel manicure they gave me was horrendous. THEY CUT MY CUTICLE. The nails are bumpy , bulbous, and severely uneven. See the pics. read more
