As a previous shopper of 15 years, I can say I was a bit surprised earlier this spring when Myshel, and Garrett were no longer there to greet me. However, I will say that the new owners were wonderful to work with during my first consignment.. I also purchased a bunch of things and I returned last week to consign a few few pieces and look around. They are very friendly and helpful and have some lovely items with great pricing. I never leave reviews and I do not like apps on my phone. I installed the yelp app just to leave a review. When I walked into the store it was the most unfriendly, uncomfortable experience I have had in a long time. The vibe there was so weird. Both the owner and her assistant made me feel like I didnt belong there. No hello no welcome just a stare. There was Noone else in the store. ( they must make other people feel the same way ) I know I will never go back there. My friend really wanted to show me Fantasia the consignment store in Old Saybrook. This is such a little gem of a store. It doesn't even feel (or smell) like a consignment store, but more like a small boutique. It is very well organized, carefully selected, and everything looks brand new. There are items here from Chanel, YSL, Tiffany & Co, Fendi,Tory Burch and so much more. Everything isn't my style, but everything looks crisp and new. The prices are also very appropriate. It's easy to navigate the items and the store, items are sorted by category and size, there isn't too much of anything. My friend and I both found some great gems. I can't wait to come back and see what else we'll find in the future. read more

I was mistreated by Garrett since I requested to drop 2 designer bags off , he with a terrible tone said i did not have an appointment ( nor did he offer me one ) and treated this senior lady with such disdain I will never go back nor will i recommend them to anyone . Im not sure if its that they just don't like seniors, women or believe they are at a much higher social level than I . I'm guessing if I was a man he would of been much nicer ! **6/20/14: Despite Patricia's G. claim I work for this business, I AM NOT an employee of Fantasia nor am I affiliated with the business. Good thing I don't live nearby and get direct deposit because I would have to sign off my paychecks to them...lol! On Friday, I saw a green Chloe bag, a Coach handbag display, and a couple of Louis Vuitton handbags. I love this place so much that I always have to stop in when I'm in Old Saybrook. I am not the type who buys second hand clothing, but the selection is so amazing that I make an exception with this shop. I purchased a pair of metallic flats for $5! Though their stuff is normally not that inexpensive, they will have a markdown rack and a $5 shoe area as well as a $10 one. I have consigned with them before and they are very honest, ethical business. Unlike other consignment shops, they send an itemized receipt of what itemized sold at what price and the dollar amount you received from the sale. Fantasia owner Myshel Enman says "it feels like Christmas every day of the week" in her store because new items come in all the time, from $5 shoes to a Chanel bag. In this sunny, spotless shop, a row of Tory Burch tops and Diane Von Furstenberg peasant shirts hung invitingly on a rack. There is absolutely no ick factor here. Each item is clean and pressed and looks almost new. One of the pretty young teens who works in the shop landed a strapless Lily Pulitzer dress for $30. Why would anyone pay full price for Lily? All the consignment stores are lousy with it. On a recent visit to Fantasia, I bought a J. Crew denim shirtdress for $28. But I was really coveting the items in the "treasure chest" glass case. Vintage Hermes handbags shared space with Chanel and a fabulous Mulberry bag for around $400. read more

Wow! Where do I begin? Fantasia is a 100 on a scale of 10. From the one of a kind clothing items, to the ridiculously helpful workers, Fantasia is a one of a kind boutique. I started going in back when I was in high school and Myshel and her mother were always helpful finding me fashionable items on my student budget. As I went off to college in a big city, I never found another place quite like this gem. Nothing beats Fantasia's prices and the fact that Myshel and her employees are so selective with the items they take in makes the store that much more amazing to shop at. They are always so honest when you ask an opinion on a style or an outfit you're trying on. Getting to know Myshel over the years I have shopped at this boutique, I can personally say that I know for 100% fact she would never write a review about her own company nor would she ever ask an employee to do so. She has such loyal customers, like myself, that she would never need to ask someone to write a review for her shop like others have suggested. My first ever experience really loving a thrift store has been at Fantaisa! They have so many great things to choose from! I have bought sweaters I've worn that I've got many compliments on to lots of Free People stuff too! They are really nice and they know there stuff! I also sell some of my clothes here too. I use it for store credit because i know I'll always find something i like! You don't feel as guilty when you go shopping when you buy consignment! I have been to this shop twice and both times left with some fabulous items! The items are displayed nicely with beautiful jewelry in glass cabinets, handbags and shoes nicely arranged and just the right amount of merchandise displayed so it's not overwhelming. I love browsing the racks of designer tops and jackets. My daughter found a gorgeous Lululemon sweater and I picked up designer jeans and shoes for a fraction of what I would have paid at the department store. The owner is sweet and helpful! This is my second Yelp review ever, but I thought Fantasia deserved a shout-out. It's my favorite consignment shop on the Shoreline, and that says a lot as a consignment-store junkie who seeks out every resale store I can find. The well-curated selection, very fair prices, fast merchandise turnover, and boutique-style displays make Fantasia worth repeated visits, even as often as 1-2 times per week. Part of me wants to keep this store a secret, but I end up raving about it to anyone who's interested. A number of other consignment shop owners have admitted to me that they've heard about Fantasia and hoped to learn from their business model and store presentation, if only they could find the time to visit during shopping hours! My only suggestion for improvement is to consider adding a third dressing room. While I've rarely had to wait and they've often waived the 6-item try-on limit for me when they're less busy, I think they'd benefit from an extra room for peak hours and as their business continues to grow. But I understand that all shops have space limitations and that with more dressing rooms it's harder to stay on top of things. Keep up the great work! read more

I consigned my items here (and even made a few awesome purchases) over the course of several areas until I moved away from the CT shoreline. I always had a very pleasant experience with the owner and her staff. Whenever they "passed" on some of my items, they always gave me a reason which I thought was fair and professional, as well as polite. They have great taste and I appreciated the variety of items offered. The store is in a very convenient location with ample parking and ease of entering and exiting! The space has more of a boutique feel than a consignment shop and is not only a great place to find some awesome deals on preloved clothing and accessories for yourself, but new with tags items that could make lovely gifts as well! read more

I've stopped in a few times as a shopper and fail to grasp what is so great about this place and the items they accept. There are no bargains here or any great finds. I hesitated to write this as I have never written a poor review prior. Still in shock by the complete and total rudeness of the owner, a woman whose name I do not know as she did not share it with me. I made an inquiry about their consignment process. Her response was biting and completely unwarranted. Rather smug for a retailer whose success is based upon merchandise "brought" to her be consigners. She also was aware that I had purchased several items, albeit a couple of years ago, in her shop. That did not matter as she exercised a bitterly sarcastic tone. Unbelievable when a business is seemingly so successful that they can (and did) treat a customer so very poorly. Rudeness to a customer is not "in fashion" As far as the merchandise goes, I felt the selection had gone down hill. Lots of run of the mill, although reasonably priced, tops. Designer clothing was overpriced and very very dated. Worth a local stop, but if you are taking a trip to Old Saybrook I would spring for a lobster roll before buying used clothing that comes with an uptown attitude. read more

The store's owners version of what occurred is so far from the truth that it is laughable. I deal with consignment stores all the time. They all have different criteria. I don't care if they didn't want some of the items. However, this owner dismissed every item after only looking at the first few and the rest were still in the car. When I politely asked her the criteria for what she does take all she would say is "trendy". I asked for name brands. She wouldn't provide examples. All this done in a snotty tone of voice. Literally sneering. I said "Ok. Perhaps I'll look around to see what it is you do take. While I did so my octogenarian mother started to take some of our rejected items - for example new Tahari, Free People, Christopher Blue $140 jeans w the tags still on, etc. plus designer labels on recent but previously worn clothing - back to the car. As my mother was walking out the door she heard someone behind her at a distance say something. She thought two other people were having a conversation. Then louder she heard "Well FINE! Take the stuff out yourself". My mother is almost 80. You would think a business owner MIGHT realize people that age don't hear everything. Especially spoken behind them. Unbelievably rude. A minute later , I was in the back of the store perusing perplexing not-So-trendy merchandise from the Gap and large floral print Eddie Bauer shirts that my grandmother would wear and my mother returned to speak to me. We were having a private conversation between the two of us in hushed tones in a back corner of the store. I was showing her an item and we were quietly discussing the perplexing choices that "trendy" seemed to mean for the owner. The assistant to the owner followed my mother to the back of the store and was eavesdropping on our private conversation. At this point she says "Really!? If you don't like it just leave" in a loud voice that certainly drew the attention of the few other shoppers in the store. At that point my mother and I walked out and I to the owner as we passed the register that I couldn't believe their behavior towards customers. The owner then replied "We don't have anything here for you. You'd be better off at xxxx". (filled in the blank with a low end consignment store name). I told the owner "good luck - you are going to need it". I will never set foot in such a horrible place again. That woman and her assistant were simply unacceptable in their behavior. As a longtime 30 year resident I suggest people go to any of the other local stores instead. I've dealt with many other local consignment stores very pleasantly. read more

I live in Old Saybrook and have seen the store in the rundown plaza on Route 1 and have no idea what it was otherwise I would have been in there ages ago! A word of advice is to make it more obvious what the store is to entice more potential customers. I say that simply because of what I mentioned before--the plaza IS rundown and not situated directly on Route 1 so it is easily looked past if you don't know about it. I am sure more of the summer tourists would go there too if they knew what it was. ONE turn off about my consideration of going there is that it is VERY, VERY obvious that the owner Myshell or one of her employees wrote a huge ridiculous review about her store it is dated: 10/26/2012 with no name listed. The glowing review was full of information that the average customer or even a loyal would know including the exact date of opening and details about the owners rejection or accepting of merchandise. Or the newspaper awards the store one "two years in a row" and some other details must be read to know what I am saying is right. While I understand that it is hard not to write about your business in hopes of getting someone into the store, I think it is cheating and does not reflect well on you or your employees integrity. Again, please read that review dated10/26/2012 . I encourage those to read that owner so that we can all make a decision whether we want to buy from a store that is so obvious in the details you can't deny it. I WILL go there in fact, I am going to go there today! I am going shopping for a few new things I will swing by and see what the hulabaloo is about and will report back. This is the best consignment store ever! For the shoreline area, the prices are affordable, the staff is super friendly and helpful and the selection is well curated. The displays are so enticing that I usually end up disassembling them and buying whatever works in the display. I try hard not to go once a week but usually cannot resist. I agree that the owner is very rude . I asked Myshe how she authenticated a Gucci watch. I was curious because I was very interested in purchasing it . Her response- I know the owner in a snotty dismissive tone . With so many counterfeits on the market with a brand like this before spending you want to be sure it is the real deal . I went home and googled how to authenticate this item and then went back and checked it according to the criteria for authentication . It was real and I purchased it for 300 dollars .The next time I was in there there was a chanel skirt that just came in . I asked when it was going to be put out and was told in the fall . These were the same people I dealt with with the watch . I went back the next day just to see and of course it was out .(Which I knew it would be ) However, if I were consigning my clothing I would not want the salespeople to turn away potential customers with their petty rude behavior - very unprofessional . read more
