There are so many beautiful pieces in the showroom it was a bit overwhelming to put it all together, but Amy nailed it! We have a family coastal cottage which needed to be revamped and brought into the 21st century. Amy was so kind and thoughtful about trying to keep the sentimentality of our family home along with trying to please two other families besides myself. This process went on for almost a month before we made the final purchases. Amy and her managers worked with us and NEVER ever put any pressure on us. Today I took my wife to the Saybrook Home after Christmas sale. Half hour before opening people start lining up because many of the items are at 50% off. You would think you would find bargains. Think again, it just goes from outrageous to expensive. But the store was packed.The store consists of a couple buildings, and some of them are connected to one another. It is a high-end shop beautifully decorated. An array of fine quality furniture is displayed in each room. Also many talented designers are there to help you to choose the style that works in your home. They carry furniture, rugs, window treatments, and gifts galore for everyone. Not to forget about their boutique with apparel, and jewelry for men and women. Seasonal items are beautiful, and it's worth going no matter what time of the year it is. read more

Six years ago, we spent $3500 for a sofa at Saybrook Country Barn and today we took it to the dump!!! After trying to get assistance from both the store and the manufacturer, we realized they weren't one bit interested in resolving our problem!!! This sofa was the most poorly constructed and least durable piece of furniture I've ever owned!!! Customer service at Saybrook home was absolutely nonexistent!!! I would NEVER go there again!!! I love to go to Saybrook Country Barn and poke around on the weekend. They have a great selection of everything from furniture to draperies (with unbelievable custom fabric selections) as well as a great little clothing boutique with some great pieces you would never find in a department store. They also have a neat little gourmet section with neat kitchen decor and gourmet food items. Overall it is very fun to meander through the Saybrook Country Barn and clothing boutique, and don't be fooled by the words "Saybrook" or "boutique" above, the prices here are very reasonable and the employees are there (mostly with smiles on their faces) ready to help where they can. read more

We've been shopping for new family room furniture for the past year and have visited a bunch of the better stores in the state including Connecticut Home Interiors, Furniture Barn in Cheshire, Middlebury Consignment, Safavieh, etc. This store, however, seemed to have a very different philosophy when it comes to engaging with potential customers. Leave them alone until they approach you. We drove all the way from Fairfield (a good hour) and walked around both buildings taking in all the furniture...no one approached us..no one asked if they could help...45 mins..no contact. The Saybrook Country Barn is a pretty nice place. Not cheap, but nice. I normally come here for furniture but they sell all kinds of stuff for your home like rugs, curtains, bedding and countless smaller items (some lame, some nice). It's definitely got a "country" feel so if you were expecting modern or contemporary things this probably isn't the place for you. It's a pretty big place and actually in two separate buildings. In one building they actually have a small selection of fairly upscale clothing items (now for men and women) and a restaurant, though I haven't eaten there so I can't comment on it. They have probably the best selection of furniture around from several different brands. Some people think it's expensive but I guess it's all relative. If you were comparing this place to Bob's Discount Furniture then yeah it's expensive. But most of it is made domestically and you can order specific types of wood, finishes, hardware, fabrics, etc. just the way you want it. So I put SCB in the "you get what you pay for" category. The people who work there are friendly and helpful. I'm guessing based on the way I'm treated that they don't work on commission but I guess I could be wrong. It can get busy on weekends so it may be hard to get help if it's really busy. But you can usually eventually find someone to take your money. Overall it's a pretty good place if it fits your style. read more

This is exactly the sort of shopping you'd expect to find in Old Saybrook. There is a nice selection of home interiors and furniture to choose from: some very over-priced and you ponder whether you'd see the same thing across the street at Marshalls as well as many pieces you haven't seen in other stores. The entire area expands beyond the Country Barn and has some interesting shopping. It depends on your style and what you are looking to find. I think it's good for a walk through, but I can't say that you'll always find something. If you're looking to just shop this is a great place to do it; and if you find something all the better. The stores are very neat and despite the expansiveness of the area you always seem to be able to find an employee around if you need assistance. There is also a restaurant on sight so you can easily spend a few hours here. read more

Speaking for their furniture department, Saybrook Country Barn is home décor porn. All the furniture is so perfectly staged that I feel like I am in a dream. Though I have a Bob's Discount/Craig's List/Goodwill budget, I get a lot of decorating inspiration from this store. If I was married to Mark Zuckerberg, then this would be the place I would buy my furniture and get their talented, friendly staff to decorate my house. It is also one of those places I wouldn't mind working at. : ) read more

I was driving up to Newport, RI with my girlfriend to get out of the city for a long weekend, and we decided to stop at the Saybrook Country Barn because I have been in the market for a new sofa and rug for my apartment. It was, hands down, one of the most enjoyable shopping experiences I have had in a long time. I was immediately greeted by excellent sales staff that assisted us throughout the whole process, although the inventory really sells itself. I decided on a Brynlee Comfort Sleeper as I routinely have out of town guests staying at my apartment. After we were done buying furniture, we decided to take a break and have a quick bite at Aspen before getting back on the road. It was delicious! All-in-all, from the friendly and attentive sales people to the amazing furniture, it was truly a unique and memorable shopping experience. I will definitely be back! read more

This was my first time going to the Saybrook Country Barn apparel shop by the Aspen restaurant. My mom has been her a couple of times never rushing back, but today we were looking for gifts for our friends and felt we would find them here. I don't see myself going back or recommending it. We entered the store that had a couple shoppers and were not greeted once by the multiple employees we encountered. Not one person asked if we needed help or showed interest in our being there. We felt uncomfortable in the environment, and as if we weren't seen as good enough to be there. I even found my mom zipping her jacket up to cover her sweatshirt before entering to "improve my appearance so they will acknowledge and assist us." This is unfortunate as I personally found the options great and love supporting my local but won't being supporting this one. read more

I'm writing this review about the Apparel Shop right next door to Aspen Restaurant within Saybrook Country Barn. I had been in the store three times in the last month and every time felt like I was being watched like a hawk by the sales associates. Whenever I turned I felt like all eyes were on me. I'm almost 40 years old and this is one of the first times I've ever felt this way. When I would ask about upcoming sales they were very reserved and snotty as though it was this huge secret. With the prices as high as they are originally who can afford it unless it's on sale. I think next times I'll just go across the street to Marshall's and spend 1/3rd of the price. Oh yeah and remember all sales final on the limited sale item selection so you better try on. Even more annoying. read more

A rare bastion of beautiful design, Saybrook country barn is a place to be inspired. I could wander for hours just looking for ideas. Everything is the highest quality and the people are knowledgeable. I asked one of the sales people where a couch was made and she pulled out a card from under the cushion that had been signed by all the craftsman in North Carolina who worked on it. It is almost as if each piece has earned its place in the store. I have never found a store that puts such emphasis on quality. Even the delivery people who came to my house knew all about the pieces. Next on my list is a live edge coffee table - they have a few new pieces that incorporate the most beautiful wood. read more

We recently purchased a fabric and metal custom made king size bed. Jessica, our salesperson, was very attentive to our requests and helped us to choose the style and fabric. The bed exceeded our expectations! We were quite impressed by the quality of the product. I agree with a previous reviewer. Their policies regarding returns are very unclear. They are fairly helpful and friendly when taking your money. But, bring in a return and they treat you like you are stealing from them. The one time I brought in a return the sales rep was downright rude. Makes me never want to shop there again. BEWARE - apparently there is 10 return policy, which I was not aware of. They literally counted out 10 days on a calendar behind the counter! read more

I hate giving local businesses a poor review but after several visits I left less than satisfied. The staff is unappreciative of its customers and does very little to help you. They are also unclear about their policies, including return policies, so be careful! I wanted a store so quaint and homey to be awesome but the staff was so rude, nothing was adorable about the experience. I'll be shopping elsewhere to decorate. read more

Don't assume that going to a reputable furniture store and spending a significant amount of money comes with a guarantee of customer satisfaction. When my custom ordered chair arrived and the fit and dimensions did not resemble the floor room sample in any way, I never doubted that ultimately I would end up satisfied with my new purchase. Instead when I contacted customer service I was dismissed, insulted, and told to just love the chair I got. I was ultimately left with the choice of having to pay for modifications for a chair that did not resemble what I ordered. I will never return to SCB and make sure I tell everyone of the horrible service we received. read more

There is a good selection of pretty items and ideas but over priced in many ways. If you are a shopper you will be able to distinguish good vs bad prices here. Furniture is high end with high prices, not everything is worth it. Bought a sofa for my part time house and it hasn't been a year and it looks old, not in a good way. read more

Love SCB! Over the past few years I have purchased rugs, office furniture, window treatments, fabric, wall hangings and accessories. I do not enjoy decorating so working with Marcia (design consultant at SCB) makes it easy and fun. She has come to my home to make suggestions and measure. Marcia is a talented decorator but she is also very professional, organized, follows-up and is patient. If she doesn't know the answer she finds out and calls back usually the same day or within 24 hours. I highly recommend SCB for quality, but also be sure to ask for Marcia when you walk in the door. It will make your experience at SCB so much better. read more

Mr. Bolles, CEO and owner of Saybrook Country Barn is arrogant and inflexible re: "policy". We bought a string of pricey Christmas lights in December. When we plugged them in at home they were orange, not red. They looked ready for Halloween, not Christmas. Since we live 30 miles away, we didn't get a chance to drive out there until the end of February with the intent of returning these stupid lights. We have been a long time customer of this store, having purchased furniture and a myriad of other items over the years......thousands of dollars! That didn't seem to matter to the clerk, her manager, or Mr. Bolles himself. He said, we have a 10-day return policy. 10 days!! So, regardless of our long-term consumer relationship he wouldn't bend his "rules"to accept a return for Halloween lights he was selling as Christmas lights. We will never return to this store. Absolutely no customer appreciation. DO NOT SHOP HERE. read more

I recently visited SCB and noticed a great rug for my home. I walked up to the rug department and meet a sales consultant Marcia Sampson. I explained the rug I had seen and she immediately went down to look at the rug to determine the manufacturer. It so happen that day SCB was holding a rug sale and the rug turned out to be priced in the range I wanted to spend. After quoting several different size prices to me I went home to measure the area. I determined the 3X5 rug was the size I needed, I called Marcia and ordered the 3X5 rug. She stated it would take about a month. Much to my surprise Marcia called a few days later to say a mistake had been made and the price was $60.00 more than quoted. At that point I was very disappointed and told her I would have to think about it. Not knowing if I wanted to spend the extra money and the fact I was quoted one price and then told a few days later the price was a mistake I was in no rush to make a decision. A few days later Marcia called me again, again apologizing about the error and stated she had discussed the matter with her Manager. She was calling to say they would honor the price quoted. The fact that she and her Manager took responsibility about the error made me happy. The rug arrived within 1 week and I am overjoyed the way it looks in my home. I appreciate the fact they contact me to say they would make good on the error. They saved a customer I probably would not have purchased the rug had the expected the extra money. During my visit to pick up the rug I saw several other items I would like to have in my home and I will continue to shop at SCB . After a rough start I will be back as a loyal SCB customer. read more
