The Playhouse is located in a great area in Santa Monica and there are a lot of eateries and places to walk. The 3rfd St. Promenade is just a block away. Parking is easy in the public parking lot right across the street, it is for a small fee. All of the kid's plays are great and our grandson has not missed one yet. They also do holiday themed plays. The prices are great, this is one of the last places you can take a kid and not spend more than 18$ a ticket and often less. The staff is the nicest. It is not for profit and the entire staff and actors work for free. They also have Birthday parties. The place is small and adorable you will love it.

The play was amazing, and I'd highly recommend seeing it if you get the opportunity. Big thanks to Michael K. for alerting us to the show, which we otherwise wouldn't have known about. Parking was easy and cheap, $5 for a matinee show (apparently $8 for evening). We cut it close and arrived just a few minutes before the 2:00 start time, but we were apparently in good company and got to our seats well before curtain. We were stopped just outside the theater by a group of IATSE protestors, who handed out flyers asking patrons to pressure management to give the Wallis crew a fair contract. According to this flyer (and I can't find anything else about this online), the Wallis has been bargaining with the union for six months and pays crew below standard wages for Los Angeles County. If anyone at Wallis is reading this Yelp review, consider it my email in support of the union. You're a theater named for a billionaire heiress. Pay your people. The theater was nice and the production was fantastic. Our seats were in the mezzanine, and we had a great view of the stage. Loved the set design, which involved a single classroom structure on a rotating platform. The performances were amazing, as was everything else that went into the production. I hope the Wallis does right by its crew so they can keep putting on top notch theater. I get their emails now and have not yet unsubscribed, as I'd like to know what other shows they have in the pipeline.

I've had wine there which is ok, they have a decent minimal beer bottle/can selection - best bang for your buck is the tall boy PBR, and their coffee hasn't disappointed. It was so special to close out a full afternoon / evening of birthday party shenanigans by piling everyone on top of each other in the living room to be completely captivated by what Will had put together. There were super satisfying card tricks and expected things like that, but then he brought out the big guns like mind reading type stuff and it really created such an incredible intimacy and experience between me and this roomfull of humans. The building is old school opened in 1926 as a Vaudeville house so it's always been entertaining. It's had different iterations over the years, most recently the Hayworth Theatre. Then in 2018 it officially became Dynasty Typerwriter Now the theater is in Westlake, right next to MacArthur Park where many of Los Angeles' unhomed population lives. So yes you can search and find street parking, but if you have a nicer car it may be better to just not risk it and park in the nearby parking garage - 611 S Carondelet Street. Rideshare is ideal though. It's a small theater (200 seats) so if you are hoping for a close up seat to see better or get in on some crowd work, you should arrive when doors open. I am quite the opposite and enjoy a good view, but sitting far outside of the crowd-work arena! Give me a good seat on the side back a few rows and I'm happy. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE crowdwork, just not aimed at me. I've seen Tig Notaro and Marc Maron here - obviously both great shows and I enjoyed them! When you sit in the seat, prepare for a little trip. They glide! haha It's kind of weird but kind of fun that they slide a bit but I see it shocking everyone when they first sit down so prepare yourself. They are the kind of seats that start hurting after sitting for an hour so my fellow ADHD peoples, prepare to do a lot of shifting in your seat. They have good canned beer options, including a couple of NA which is nice. Also full concession stand for snacks, including their special popcorn. Staff is friendly and I always enjoy this venue! I will absolutely be back.
