My friends and I had a blast throwing axes, knives and stars. It's nice to see fun activities like this in the down town Albany area. They serve food here, but it's not a huge menu. What they have is very good. Farshot serves alcohol and non alcoholic beverages. Big shout out to Thalia and John. Two very nice employees at Farshot. Fantastic Experience with Kerri at Far Shot Axe Throwing - 5 Stars! We had the absolute best time at Far Shot Axe Throwing in Albany, and a huge part of that was thanks to Kerri! From the moment we walked in, she made us feel welcome, hyped, and ready to throw like pros (even though most of us were beginners). Kerri was not only super knowledgeable but also incredibly patient and encouraging. She gave us clear, fun instructions and individual pointers that made a huge difference in our throws. Lovely space! We came by here for a family/cousins get together type of event and so glad we chose this location. We all came by earlier in the day, mid afternoon which gave us the luxury of having a majority of the space to ourselves. The instructors were helpful- they gave us enough guidance and enough space to just enjoy! What we really enjoyed the most was the different assortment of craft beers/cides/seltzers they had!! Being in upstate new york, it was nice to be able to enjoy some of the local brews - which was at a very affordable price as well! Certainly enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend it as a celebration and/or date night spot. read more

Axe throwing is the new big thing in the area! This is one of quite a few venues popping up in the albany area and I am SO happy I came to try it out. Far Shot is more than just axe throwing, they also offer knife throwing and archery, but the axes were my favorite of the bunch. The team at Far Shot is so helpful and nice. They give you great instructions and then just let you have at it! There were multiple different axes to chose from at all different weights, and they replace the boards as necessary when they get worn out. Throwing axes is easier than it sounds with the help from their team. You'll be throwing bullseyes before you know it! It was such a rush after I got the hang of it, and I was pretty good! Far Shot also offers alcoholic and non beverages, a few snacks, and a ton of fun. Highly recommend getting here and trying something different, who knows, you could be a natural! read more

I had been dying to try out axe throwing for awhile and I am so happy that my first experience was at Far Shot Albany! First making a reservation is really easy online which is huge for places like this that tend to draw large crowds. You also get to choose which weapon you would like to use during your assassin training, axes, knives, arrows, or all 3! For our first time we chose to just try out the axes (wishing after we would've done knives too because of how much fun we had). Our coach, Marissa, was AMAZING. She gave the best instructions and guided us to bullseyes in no time. Plus she set up some fun competitions for me and my boyfriend, accompanied with just the right amount of smack talk which was perfect. With such a great staff, throwing options, snacks and alcohol it truly is great night out. read more

This was the second axe throwing business in the area that my friends and I decided to visit. It was okay but seemingly strict in some cases (ie drinking policy / the position in throwing / etc). I completely understood the circumstances, but it was a little too over bearing for our liking when trying to relax and have fun. Great new spot. Was looking for an axe throwing place nearby, and this one was smack downtown Albany. It's nearby plenty of bars and restaurants, but they have a good selection of beer and snacks inside. The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable, which I appreciated. In addition to axe throwing, they have archery and knife throwing, which was cool. Prices are reasonable and it's a great time for any size group. read more

If you're looking for a fun activity that you can do safely (masked and socially distanced) without having to brave the cold this winter, then look no further! I came here with my husband for an hour of archery and we had a ton of fun. I have a bit of experience but was pretty rusty, and he's a complete newbie, but our coach, John, was awesome at giving him tips until he was consistently hitting the target. John also did things like tack up balloons for us to shoot at and set up little competitions to keep things interesting. I'm just docking a star because of the equipment issues: pretty much all of the arrows were in bad shape, with shredded/missing fletching, fletching put on wrong, etc. Apparently they had a shipment of arrows get held up, but it did detract from the experience a bit to be shooting with arrows in such rough shape -- hopefully they'll fix their system so that they have enough extra supplies to tide them over in the future. Went with a group of 5 friends, and none of us had ever done axe-throwing before, but we all had a great time! Ashley was our guide and she did a fantastic job coaching us through the preliminary rounds and giving us good advice on techniques and which of the axes to use. She was doing a training at the same time with a very sweet gal (but I can't remember her name, sorry!) but we never felt inconvenienced by the occasional break for training. We had a blast, and got a tour of the facility afterwards. We're already planning out return trip to try out the archery area downstairs. The drinks were incredibly well priced, and overall it was reasonable cost-wise (especially since you can add on to your hour with other activities like the knife throwing or archery). It's conveniently located too, right in the heart of downtown, which is very since considering the proximity to other venues and restaurants. read more

So I went here for their Grand Opening Free Weekend event so not sure if everything that I saw will also be consistent with how they are when they open. I will be comparing this place to other axe throwing / archery places that I have been to. With that out of the way. Safety is a huge concern for me at this place. At the Axe Throwing, the staff stands literally 1-2 feet from where you throw the axes. My friends and I had concerns where they were standing when we're ya know, swinging the axes behind our heads. I think they can stand behind the bar or something. Also handing the axes to each other, as well as placing the axes right behind where the staff is leaning on is just very dangerous imo. At the Knife Throwing, I couldn't believe it when the staff member literally stood in front of where people were throwing the knives and chatting with a guy outside the fence. It was wild to see because I was just telling my friends about how the axe throwing was kinda dangerous and then walk down the hall and saw the knife throwing to be even more dangerous. At the archery, no real safety complaints here that I can remember. In general, I don't think kids should be allowed in this area. They were having families with like 5-6 year olds come in, while drunk people from PSP were coming in and throwing sharp objects around. Suggestions. Axe Throwing, I think the black dots should be outside of the target rather than in it, and you should have to announce you are going for it on the last shot to score the 10 points rather than possibly scoring that or inside the target anyway. Archery, I'm not sure if you can move back or not but otherwise one distance for archery is boring. Staff should instruct how to remove arrows. Also, the staff instructing how to hold and shoot the arrows didn't really tell instruct that well. They should also be making it clear when you can shoot, and when you have to stop. read more

We had so much fun here. Our coach Jo was so nice and made the whole experience very fun. She had us do a bracket style competition and made it super fun. There is a two drink maximum and the beer selection is good. Definitely recommend this place and ask for Jo! read more

First and foremost I understand this is a risky activy and safety is the primary concern however, we came here for a night of fun and laughs with friends and we were given Tom as our coach/helper. The entire time he was right over our shoulders constantly correcting us like we were going into a competition rather than allowing us to just have fun. It was extremely frustrating that he wouldn't allow us to have fun while being safe but rather felt the need to stand there over us watching our every move. We were trying to have fun and make jokes and he didn't laugh once or find anything funny but rather took everything we said serious. He also seemed very intimidated that we had someone in our group who has done axe throwing and archery before and he felt the need to constantly single him out like he didn't know what he was doing. Every single other group in the place seemed like they were having a blast and we just weren't. Facility was nice but Tom was a huge negative. read more
