When the took the old one out, I had to wait a week for the new one to be glued in, what was the point of the dental impression at all? Just for their files or something, anyways my lower teeth moved, when the new retainer was glued in I was told that the doctor is "no need to check"! Now my upper teeth feel funny because of the movement on the button teeth. My biggest confusion was, why did I wait a week for the impression before getting my new retainer glued in ? The doctor took me out of them a little early, which may have been the cause of the problem. Whatever it is, I wear my retainers every single night without fail. I am extremely disappointed with our experience with Dr. Hunter and his practice. He treated three…read moreof my children, and throughout their treatment I repeatedly raised concerns about their care. Unfortunately, several of those concerns were ultimately validated, despite my being repeatedly reassured that there was no reason for concern. The first major issue involved my son's expansion treatment. His original treatment plan called for both an upper and lower expander. After the lower expander was placed, it repeatedly became detached. We were then told that we could proceed without the lower expander and that it would not be a problem. When Dr. Hunter determined that my son's expansion was complete, I expressed concern that his teeth remained very crowded, tight, and overlapping and questioned whether he had been adequately expanded. I was assured that the expansion was sufficient. Several months later, during a growth check, we were told that my son needed a specific retainer to address his overbite. I again asked whether this would help with his significant crowding and overlapping teeth and was assured that it would. Unfortunately, I did not see improvement in the crowding. My son continued to have difficulty properly cleaning his teeth because they remained extremely tight and overlapping. He was also experiencing airway-related concerns. At that point, I sought an independent orthodontic evaluation as well as a myofunctional evaluation. Both evaluations indicated that his expansion was inadequate and that he required additional upper expansion as well as a lower expander. When I contacted Dr. Hunter's office to request a meeting to discuss my son's treatment and these concerns, I was not given an opportunity to discuss the situation with the doctor. Instead, I was informed via email that my children would no longer be treated by the practice. This occurred while my son was still under a paid treatment plan for his retainer, and no refund was offered. We also experienced multiple issues with the appliances used during treatment. On more than one occasion, metal components from one of my children's appliances broke off inside their mouth. I also specifically asked about the possibility of food becoming trapped underneath the fixed retainers--both before ordering the appliance and again before it was placed. I was assured that this would not be an issue. Unfortunately, food did become trapped underneath the appliances for two of my children. In my daughter's case, this resulted in significant discomfort, with her palate becoming painful, raw, and bleeding. The appliance ultimately had to be removed. My son also had to have his appliance removed after food became trapped underneath it. Removing the bonded appliance was painful, and it was particularly frustrating because I had specifically raised this concern beforehand and was reassured that it would not be a problem. The most disappointing aspect of our experience is that I consistently raised concerns throughout my children's treatment and was repeatedly reassured that everything was appropriate. In several instances, the problems I was concerned about ultimately occurred or were later identified by other providers. My son now needs to undergo additional expansion, meaning our family is facing additional time, expense, and the burden of repeating a significant portion of his treatment. I believe parents should feel comfortable asking questions and raising concerns about their children's orthodontic care and should feel that those concerns are taken seriously. Unfortunately, that was not our experience with Dr. Hunter and this practice.
