In March I called Farmers Exchange in Kennewick to set up a service appointment for warranty work for my lawn mower. I was told I needed to pay a refundable amount before I could set up the appointment. The amount was supposed to be refunded after the warranty work was completed. A week passed, and I was informed that it was ready. When I went to pick it up, the person at the counter asked that I pay an additional $150. I explained that this was a warranty issue, which he then said it was never submitted for warranty. He returned my lawn mower without an additional charge and stated that once it's submitted to warranty, my deposit would be refunded. A few days later, I received a call from a Farmers employee asking if I was going to pick up my lawn mower. I explained that I had already picked it up and was just waiting for my deposit to be refunded. They assured me it would be refunded in a few days due to banking delays. A month after the service, I still hadn't received my refund, nor had Farmers called me back. So, I called to inquire about my refund. Again, the person on the phone said it had not been submitted for warranty and asked for proof of purchase, since I did not buy it from them. I sent the proof within minutes. A couple of hours later, a person named Ramiro Torres called me and explained that I was not going to be refunded my deposit and that the issue wouldn't have been covered by warranty. The conversation got heated, and I did raise my voice out of frustration, especially since Ramiro kept talking over me. As I was explaining what happened, Ramiro suddenly hung up. I called back and spoke to the GM (Gene), who reiterated the same, but also added that because it was a tracking issue, it would never have been covered by warranty. I told him that if that had been relayed to me from the start, I would not have taken it to Farmers for service. Expressing frustration, I emphasized the importance of clear communication upfront to avoid such misunderstanding, which is when Gene said I was raising my voice and that I needed to lower my tone or he would also hang up. I was not raising my voice but either way I lowered my voice to almost a whisper so I can explain to him what I believed happened. At this point Gene said not to tell him what I think happened and that he was going to hang up, which he did. It's worth noting that they said the main reason for the issues was due to the employee who returned my lawn mower. They said he has since been fired...not sure why they told me that since that is not an excuse for their mistakes. Farmers Exchange dropped the ball, and when called out on their mistake, they decide they rather not hear the customer's point of view. I do not recommend them for service or purchases. read more

was quoted a price for service when I took my mower in for warranty work of $175. Had them do the service and they wanted to charge me $326 for said service. I got the mower back and it runs like sh*t. Called them for service and talked to Gene as he was the manager at the time. He didn't want to talk to me and sent me over to service. After 5 tries and 4 people later I was told to leave a messages for them and they would call me back. This is the second problem I have had with the new owners. This time I will learn my lesson. read more

Shopped here several times over the years without problems, but recently acquired chicks from them. One breed was obviously sick but did not notice it until looking closely. They denied there was an issue and tried blaming us for the problem. They're still trying to sell these diseased chicks. Fortunately they were in a separate brooder and will not affect the health of the other breeds which appear healthy. The store has no desire to even hear about the issue. Never again. ****Beware**** Unqualified service department Brand new Toro snow blower used one time and drive cable comes off of clutch mechanism ... I temporarily put the cable back on and sent machine back to Farmer Exchange under warranty to replace a cable that had a crack in the end of it... After checking with Tony (Service Manager) Tony stated that they ran the machine for 45 minutes with no issues..The work order clearly stated that cable was broke on end behind cover.. Obviously this service department is not qualified to work on Toro products... Nor do they understand customer service at Farmer Exchange. In addition ,they charge you a service fee upfront that is non-refundable if the service department can't find , fix or figure out the issue!!! You will not get your money back. Don't do business at this company, they will not honor their warranties. I bought a new Toro walk behind in the spring. Used it three times a week for three months, then it wouldn't start and run. Took it back to this dealer for warranty repair. They looked at it and then told me it would cost me over a hundred dollars to fix it because it had been stored overwinter with old gas in it, stating that they had tested the gas and it was over a month old. I had bought the gas at a local gas station that same month. I told them to keep the mower. Had I known they would not honor the warranty, I would have cleaned the carb myself, it's certainly not hard. A simple check online will let you know that gas is usually over a month old before it gets to the pump, and another check will inform you that there really isn't a test for gas age. I purchased a toro push mower 2 months ago. They filled my tank up with gas so I could mow as soon as I got home. The first time I used it, it would sputter and almost die periodically. I figured they had put bad gas in the tank, so I added fuel additive that I thought would take care of the problem. I only mowed a couple times the first month.. I know now, I should have taken it back right away. When I did call them to tell them what had been happening they said I would have to pay a deposit of $50 and then if it was covered by warranty I would get my money back. I told them the mower was brand new and I should not have to pay anything for them to get it to run correctly. So he said to go ahead and drop it off and they would check on it and call me back that afternoon. Three days later I call them and they say it is going in to the mechanic that morning and they would call me later. I called again the next afternoon when they told me I put bad gas in the mower and they replaced the carburetor and it would cost me $185. I asked for the sales department to talk about returning the mower, he said he would check into what was happening and call me back... The next day a different service guy called and said the cleaned my fuel system out it would cost $100 for the repairs but he would cut the cost in half, I questioned what i was told the day before about the carburetor being changed and he said they didn't do that... I told him I would never do business there again and would pick it up later. I mowed my very small front yard when i got home then the mower would not start again at all, and it still sputters.. I went down and asked to talk to Keith, I tried to tell him what had happened from the beginning and he cut me off after started talking said he had been told what happened that I put bad gas in my mower and they fixed it for me, I told Keith that they put the bad gas in the mower and didn't fix it it wont even start now. Keith said "you told my crew you were never going to shop here again but here you are".. I said "Yes, because my new mower I bought from you does not run, and he will not let me return it." Keith was very rude and has no customer service, I have shopped there many times in the past, and as long as you don't end up with a defective product or have any problems I guess you are ok, but if anything goes wrong with your purchase you are blamed and charged, they do not stand behind their products or fix any problems they cause. read more

All I wanted was a simple lawn mower tune up. I pay $49 to have it looked at to see what the mower needs. To cover the Tech's time, I'm told. So I get a call that they can't get the mower started and it needs a carburator. It will cost more that it's worth they say. Ok, I'll pick it up. Because I know it runs, it takes more primer pumps than it should and doesn't start on the first pull. HENCE THE TUNE UP! And how do you know a carb is bad if you havent heard it run? What a joke, waist of time. I will never use Farmers Exchange again, for anything. If they're business model is get $50 out of you and call to say they cant fix it. What a racket. Do this 10 times a week, man $500 every week. I guess the used car salesman is going to get a run for his money. I can and will do the reapirs myself. I just thought it would be convienent to take it in for a change. But man to screwed out of $50 like that, when the TECH doesn't know what he's doing. Wow. The ones I really feel bad for are the people who don't know any better. Who actually believe what these crooks are telling them. And get duped into buying a new mower. You've been warned. After getting my mower home and investigating further. I can see why it wouldn't start for them. 1. There was no gas in it. so I added gas and yes, it wouldn't start. So I checked the plug,(2) the spark plug wire was not attached. I'm guessing so when the customer comes in to see whats up, indeed it won't start. So once I reatached the plug, it fired and ran good on one pull. Please don't fall for these crooked tactics. read more

We purchased a riding lawn mower from these guys a few years back and they've been servicing it at least once a year. I've noticed the exact same mower model at the big-box stores, the price is a bit less, but the components that make up the mower are lesser quality. Such as the engine and mowing unit. If you're shopping around, dig 'under the hood' so to speak to make sure you're comparing apples to apples... or mowers to mowers. The complimentary pick up and drop off for servicing is incredibly useful as we're a bit out of town on Red Mountain. These guys are the Lexus of Lawn Mowing sales and service. read more

For those of you who had a good experience with this place. Good for you. This is about a business that told my dad about a week to fix his lawn mower. Week goes by, no word. So he calls and ask what is going on. They tell him that his mower is actually up next. He waits two days and calls again. They say, we haven't gotten to your mower yet. So naturally my father was upset, but what could he do? Next day they call and say, we looked at your mower here is the estimate. We have the parts. Should be done soon. Almost two weeks have gone by at this point. Finally one day shy of two weeks. They let him know his mower is ready. I go with him to pick it up. We get it back to my parent's house, and get ready to test her out! Surprise!!! Mower doesn't work. TWO WEEKS AND $213 in labor! Still not fixed. I dropped off a broken mower exactly one month ago. They needed to order parts, and I understood completely. I'd done a real number on the spindle. Two weeks later I called and was told the parts had arrived and they were going to get to work fixing it. Ok, I said, call me when it's ready. A week later, I called again and was told the same thing. They said they would call me when it was time to bill it out. Feeling a bit more aggravated by this point, I said ok, I'll await your call. Thankfully, my awesome neighbors lent me their mower in the interim. Today I finally got the call, so I went in to pick it up. This is south central Washington State, so we're still under draconian COVID restrictions. When I walked in, there were 4 or 5 employees at the counter, not one of which was wearing a mask. When they saw ME, they all scrambled to put theirs on. The gentlemen on my right, freshly masked, told me that I must have one or could not be served. I pulled mine out to display it and put it on. The hypocrisy of the situation did not improve my mood one bit, but no one can see your expression beneath one of those things, and the rest of the transaction was professionally completed. I am still aggravated and would give one star, but the repair job seems to have been done well. I mowed my extremely thick east lawn with no issues. read more

Purchased a brand new Husqvarna all wheel drive mower the second week of August. Took mower back the day after using it for repairs, blade is hitting the mower deck. Mower was supposedly repaired and returned. Used once again and returned for the same problem as before. Asked service manager if it is possible to get a replacement mower as the one I purchased was defective. Get the usual runaround about warranties that parts are on order again. I will no longer do business with Farmers exchange. I would give a zero star rating but the app won't let you do that. read more

Bought a brand new Toro AWD mower, just bought a house last year and used the mower roughly 6 times. Did everything the owners manual told me to do to winterize it. Start it up this season and it won't start. Gentleman at the front counter tells me " we'll get it taken care of" a week goes by so I call them and the lady I spoke with says there is "green algae" in the engine, knowing better and having somewhat of a knowledge of small engines, I tell her it may be because of Toro carburetors. Come to find out the carb needs to be replaced and it's not under warranty. $460 for a mower and they want me to pay $280. Nope. So I ask to speak with a manager, they give me the owner and all he can tell me is "we'll if I give you a deal, then I have to give everyone else a deal" I've never referred Farmers or Toro since. I bought a Honda and had no issues. read more

Farmer's Exchange (FX) is the real deal in home/ranch/small farm equipment and supplies. They have a huge selection of power equipment from Toro, Echo, Husqvarna, Shindawa, and a few other names. I rarely - and I mean rarely - buy stuff from Sears, Home Depot, etc. because the stuff that FX carries is so good and is often sold at the same price as the big box stores. Everyone at FX is friendly, knowledgeable, and really puts a big effort forward in terms of customer service. I bought a lawnmower from them 7 years ago and it still runs like new. They will even pick up and drop off your equipment when they service it. They are honest, offer very competitive pricing, and will take the time to actually learn about what your application is before recommending products. I even got some really good advice on how to make my @@#$ arborvitae come back from the dead. If you are sick of crappy, know-nothing service and disposable trimmers, saws, etc. go check out FX. read more

So I am not really one to complain on FB. But a local business I just dropped a bunch of money at, kind of did me wrong... Beware of Farmers Exchange service department, as well as their owner Keith. They do not technically have free pick up and drop off of your new equipment, as they advertise. My new Husqvarna zero-turn mower had a light come on. So my husband, Levi, called and explained the light and the service guy said it needed to come in and be seen. Cool, its under warranty as the service guy confirmed, no big. I left town, and they came and picked the mower up. They had it for a couple days, which was fine. When it got dropped off, a bill was left with it. Which, needless to say, was quite a surprise. They did an oil change on it without calling us or even telling us what the issue with the mower was. Apparently it only needed an oil change, but from what the service guy said to Levi on the phone, it appeared to be more than that. So we were sitting with a $67.00 bill for an oil change that we didn't want since we have the stuff to do it ourselves. My husband called Farmers Exchange and spoke to the service manager, who was of no help, so my husband was connected to Keith (the owner). Levi told me Keith's solution was to trade the hour meter for one that would read zero hours. Keith said they do that all the time in their shop and showroom. Keith also said we had to pay the bill or we would be sent to collections TODAY. Levi said Keith got super mad at him on the phone and was getting loud/ condescending. Levi said he hung up at that point because he didn't want to be yelled at. Levi called me blown away by the conversation he had with Keith. So I told Levi I would give him a call and see what was going on. I called and got ahold of Keith quickly. I think he thought I wanted to argue or something, his voice was shaky and he sounded like he was upset. We had a similar conversation he and Levi had. Keith told me he assumed we wanted the oil change done. I told him a phone call or something would have been nice, since we had no idea they would perform a service AND charge us for it. He said it is on their wall there that they have a minimum price they will automatically conduct work. I said that's a problem since neither Levi or myself had been in the service department, they came and got the mower from my home in Burbank. I also said a quick phone call or even a heads up would've been nice. But no one said a word. Keith also thought it was Levi's fault that he didn't know exactly what the light meant on the mower. He did start to get condescending towards him, but I said regardless, they're a "professional shop" they need to let people know what's going on, simple or not. Keith also told me he would have the meter replaced. He also said they do it all the time for new mowers in the showroom that show higher hours... In my opinion, as well as my husbands, that seems very unethical and misleading. I guess my point is, they aren't as customer service oriented as they try to seem, and it is apparent they have low ethical values when it comes to performing work on their customers machines. I am very disappointed in the outcome of the conversation I had with Keith and the way they choose to conduct business. I was planning to purchase other equipment from them in the not so distant future. On the plus side, I had a very lovely conversation with a gentleman from Liberty Lawn and Saw Shop who assured me they can help us out and be up front in the future. Looks like they have gained my future business and purchases, while Farmers Exchange has lost it. I guess a $67.00 bill is worth losing thousands of future dollars over... read more

One of the guys in the lawn mower sales department acts like a shady car salesman. He said all these great things about a lawnmower that we found to be not true after we purchased it. Honesty is the best policy, not lying about the performance of a machine just to make a sale. I will say I'm glad he was willing to give us a 100% refund. I'm guessing that is because he knew he lied to us and I wouldn't stand for it, plus he was highly annoyed by our kids. Even if this was the best place around, this guy ruined our experience and we will not be back. Part 2 - To respond back to the shady car (mower) salesman, don't flatter yourself. You have zero people skills. You had no problem with my kids doing the same thing when we bought the overpriced piece of junk machine. If there are hazards, maybe you should have caution signs, yellow on the floor, you know - common sense type of stuff. The business may be about family but you sir most definitely are not. read more

I went there twice over two days. The first time I brought in my chipper shredder to see if they could assist me with finding parts. The service attendant said he couldn't find a model number so they would not be able to help me. I went on the internet and in a few seconds found the model number and complete parts list. I returned the following day with the parts list and the items I needed circled, but the counter person acted like I was wasting his time. The staff was unprofessional and really stuck up. The farmers exchange had absolutely nothing I needed in stock and their prices were higher than any other local shop even for parts. I wouldn't recommend going to them unless you want to treat them like heroes and overpay for your repairs. read more

I recently took my Toro in for a belt and check the blade. The work order had missed the blade request. They went above and beyond to get a new blade replaced, while I waited and at their expense, no "service" charge, etc. These days with tensions high and having to obey the "orders" of doing business and distancing at businesses. . .my spirits were lifted with their service. read more

so I dropped my lawn mower off a week ago. they have just now finished it. my finance goes to pick it up 2 minutes after they close. he walks up to locked doors. guys are standing around and he speaks to the guy through locked doors. the guys says WERE CLOSED. he says he just wants to pick up his lawn mower. well is it paid for? the guy asks. We purchased a used John Deere riding lawn mower from Farmers Exchange in May, 2020. We drove a considerable distance from Gaston, Oregon to see the mower (9.5 hour trip in total). We were not told that the deck was nearly rusted through and the side running board was broken completely and riveted on. Upon inspection, we were able to see the repair on the running board but had no way of looking under the main deck body for severe rusting. After getting home, the lawn mower ran less than five minutes and would not start again. It was disclosed that the acceleration pedal stuck which made it very difficult to turn the mower (zero turn feature). The mower is now completely apart with broken plastic bushings in the accelerator assembly, rusted deck, etc. After taking the key out, we found the key was cut flat because the ignition switch is worn out. Little things are not a big deal, however, really bad rust is a major issue. Being private business owners ourselves for over 40 years, we would never try to recover a loss at someone else's expense. We understand that they took this mower as a trade-in. However, the seller's were well aware of the rust underneath as they had to take the mower apart to install a new gas tank. Knowing that we were traveling so far, ethically they should have disclosed the true state of the mower. When we actually saw the mower, we were definitely apprehensive, but having traveled so far decided to take a chance. After informing the company and sending photos of the mower torn apart, we were hoping to perhaps have a partial refund to put toward repairing the mower. However, we were told that it is as an "as-is" sale and nothing could be done...sorry. I just want to say, "BUYER BEWARE" when shopping at this establishment. Very disappointed in their unwillingness to make a wrong right. We definitely would not recommend this business to anyone. read more

They will attempt to take advantage of people by charging for parts and labor that are not needed in order to create a larger bill. This is not hearsay, this is personal experience. We went today and got chastised for not noticing a sign they posted at about knee or calf level that said not to touch the chicks. Our two year old left in tears. We won't be going there again. I called yesterday to check on the availability of an item, was told that they had it in stock in 10-pound and 50-pound bags. I asked the price of the 50-pound bag ($45.99) and decided it was worth the trip. When I went there today, I asked for a 50-pound bag; while I paid at the counter ($45.99 plus tax), someone from Farmers Exchange loaded the item into my truck. I got home to find a 25-pound bag, not a 50-pound bag. I called the store and was told, "we only sell that in 25-pound bags". The price they charged me was DOUBLE what they quoted me yesterday since they lied about the weight. These guys either deliberately lied about the package size or are incompetent. Where do I start...maybe Farmers Exchange taking advantage of a guy in a wheelchair with a spinal cord injury on a limited income. I was going there for the last four years buying all my supplies from them when I thought it would be a good idea to buy a used lawnmower from them... Boy was I WRONG!!!! I have had nothing but problems with the clunker lemon that they sold me. If you are in the market for a used or new lawn mower I would not go to Farmers Exchange as the sales people are really rude and a guy in there by the name of Kyle will lie straight to your face, while the owner will believe him over you. After buying 3 or 4 mowers and trimmers here over the years I've found that, in my opinion, these people have become totally dishonest in their service department dealings and would never deal with them again or recommend them to anyone. I took my Toro mower in for service, which was less than one year old and covered by the the Toro 2 year "guaranteed to start" warranty when it would not start. When I dropped it off they said $45 diagnostic fee regardless of warranty and it would be returned if under warranty. They said 3 or 4 days they would let me know. After a week and several calls they said the tech was working on it. After another week and some badgering on status they finally called and said "it had bad gas, not covered by warranty". (Read many of the other reviews here and you'll see that's their standard line). They said they called Toro and they would not cover warranty. I knew this was crap because I also have a John Deere tractor and I buy 2 gallons of gas every other week, put ethanol stabilizer in it and use it in both. Never any problem in the John Deere. I said "how do you know it's bad gas" - "we test a sample when it comes in" (scam). I said "OK, what's needed", they said "a new carburetor and it will be $235, but your $45 is applied to that". I told them that was unacceptable and I was coming to get it. They said they would run it up the chain and call me right back. They called back and said they would do it for $135 if they had the parts in stock. Since my mower was hostage there and didn't know if it would come back in pieces if I went to get it, I said OK. They called back in about 20 minutes and said it was done and I could pick it up. When I picked it up and paid they said they "just cleaned the carburetor and checked it out and it was all good" and they replaced the blade, air filter and spark plug (which wasn't needed on a mower less than a year old with little use). Apparently replacing the carburetor was just part of the scam to see if I'd bite on the $235. Very unethical and dishonest people here and absolutely the poorest customer service I've ever seen. Don't bother even trying to call Toro to complain because you won't find a phone number. Another company that was once good is now selling junk and won't stand behind it. If zero stars were an option, they would both get it. Absolute scammers. read more

I was in their store today to buy a husqvarna YTH2042 lawn tractor, $1799.99. There was 3 to 4 workers standing around when I came in. I asked about the tractor and asked if they deliver. Yes to anywhere in the Tri-Cities. I asked about delivery to Prosser. No, not possible. Not our policy. That translates to no sale. Their web site states that most items are shipped free of charge to anywhere in the lower 48 states...... I guess that means... Just not Prosser. Not even for a fee. I'm glad in this economy that this business is successful enough to turn away business and afford to have employees stand around. Congratulations..... 1 star read more

My review is on the service department only!! I brought my lawnmower to be serviced the first time mid-March. A couple of weeks later, the service department called to let me know my mower was ready to be picked up. I picked it up and brought it home. A week or two went by until I was ready to mow my yard, my freshly serviced lawn mower had leaked gross, nasty black oil all over my patio :-( upset and feeling taken advantage of I called Mark at the service department and he told me to bring it back down. 2 more weeks or so go by and I get a call stating my engine is going out and to "use it till it dies." Well now, do you think I would have spent the money on the new blade and air filter? No! No apologies have been given and any chance of having me come back as a return customer are lost!.... If you do a job right the first time...I can't help but think if my mower were done right the first time, would I be purchasing a new one? If anyone reading this review knows of a good service center for mowers, please do not hesitate to send me a note. I'm in the market for a new one :-) read more

Farmers Exchange ran a dealsaver ad in the Tri City Herald for "15 for $30 towards spring tune-up for walk mower..." I called the store to check how much I could anticipate paying in charges as the fine print indicated "parts, fluids, and disposal fees are additional." The FE employee said all costs were included in the $15 and that even pick up and drop off services were complimentary. Even though my mower was only one season old, I purchased the deal on-line and looked forward to working with FE. Unfortunately, AFTER the service was done, I was informed that I would be charged $75 for the labor. This was not listed anywhere on the advertisement and when I went in to FE, the owner, Keith S, blamed the advertising manager at the newspaper for the wording of the ad. He showed me a pamphlet in store where the same service is listed "starting at $74.99 with parts, fluids, and any additional labor extra." He was dismissive and condescending in the process. From looking at other reviews, it appears that men have had a 50/50 experience with FE, either extremely positive or extremely negative. Women, by and large, have had one or two star reviews to give. The delivery driver was respectful when he returned my mower, and it appears that service technicians performed their maintenance well, so I gave two stars. My interactions with Keith S. were below one star standards. Only after I contacted BBB, which FE is not a member of, was Keith S willing to reduce the price. My hope in posting this review is that FE and the Herald are not as misleading* in further advertisements and that future customers do not have the same frustrating experience that I had. * Create and show work order estimates to customers BEFORE work is done and stand by advertised prices. read more

My single female co worker had her lawn mower serviced here and was charged a arm and a leg. She got her mower home started it and it died with in a minute. She called and told them that her mower stopped running. The guy who worked on it said yeah I noticed it was running rough. What kind of mechanic let's something leave his shop running rough? My mission is to make sure everyone I know on any social media network is aware of how crappy this place is and how bad their customer service is. DO NOT BUY HERE!! Horrible service! I bought an ECHO drill here. I used it for a day and it broke down. I tried to return it and instead of taking the return they tried to say it was my fault and that I did something wrong. I'd be ashamed to run a business like that. read more

I had the worst experience with Farmers Exchange. We purchased a new 31" dual blade Toro mower along with fertilizer spreader, blower, weed eater, pottery and bags of fertilizer to start off the season. My compliant is with the below par customer service. My new mower didn't make it through the first mowing of my front yard. It literally died during the mowing process. I called Farmers Exchange to pick it up and have service take a look at it --- fast forward 6 weeks. Not once did they contact us with what was wrong with it, we were always the ones that were chasing them for answers. We were told that the problem was one of three things and that parts were on order. We visited their shop to check the status and we couldn't get a straight answer. Then on a Friday afternoon (4:15) a truck pulled up to my house and dropped the mower off, not a phone call to see if anyone was home or a courtesy call to let us know it was even ready for delivery. If it wasn't for a contractor being at our house, who knows if the mower would even have been there when we got home. Needless to say, Farmers Exchange got a very heated call from me to permanently pick up this mower. I was very annoyed that during the time they had the mower, they didn't offer us a replacement, a loaner or an apology. I did however get the opportunity to speak with the owner during my final phone call. His staff had told me he would be calling me to work things out with me and I never did hear from him UNTIL I called and told them they need to pick up their merchandise - then of course he spoke with me. My lawn is still recovering from the oil that had leaked out of the mower leaving behind strips of dead lawn. We ended up purchasing a mower from another local business. read more
