When I got there I thought it was 2 stories just to be disappointed but that's okay! Walk in get a seat and they didn't have Pepsi products :( but that's okay! Cheese sticks were stringy! The burger has good value but that's not nearly all. Now I don't consider myself a burger connoisseur like my teacher claimed to be a chicken connoisseur just to be clear. Bar tender had obviously been drinking while on the job. Tried paying my tab and they were going on with a conversation with someone that had already been waited on. After the tender finished with their conversation they were very rude towards me because I was obviously aggravated about it, and proceeded to tell me they can't tab me out because I was sitting at a table and not the actual bar.... "I just mix drinks" was what they said. Definitely won't be back and will probably will encourage others not to either. Management needs some serious work. read more

It's a dive bar with great food. For COVID, they have an outside area which would be great. They have heaters and a TV. Except when we went, a woman who seems to be the owner or manager chain smokes right there inside. So you get gagged out by her smoke. I brought most of my food home because all of the smoke grossed me out. We are also subjected to a super annoying group who treated the place like their own personal garage. Which the smoking manager/owner let do whatever! Totally annoying experience. Next time we'll do take out. read more

My in laws recommended this place as I was craving a burger. This is the place to go if you are craving a burger! It is a small bar with some booths and tables and plenty of tvs to watch whatever sport function is going on. They bring you placemats that also serve as the menu. I ordered the regular cheeseburger and it comes with these tiny pieces of onion, which I think make the burger! They serve it just wrapped up in some paper too. I chose the shoe string fries and they were nice and hot. Full bar too. A great stop for lunch and I will definitely have to come back on my way through! read more

Yes, I am a local....although the burgers are really great,and people seem pleased with some other items, I have to tell you on our last visit, it was awful. Maybe it was the person at the grill. My son got a grilled cheese, the cheese was hard and he said it was terrible, he didn't eat it. We ordered a$10 nacho thinking it would be enough to split, it came after an hour and was only enough to be served on a styrofoam plate. But no great loss, the chips were so stale they shattered when bitten, and they used a liquid cheese food that was the grossest thing I've tasted. Unless I want a burger, I won't be back. read more

The Great Lakes/Bay Supper Club visited Farmer's Home for their June meeting. Almost every single one of us got a burger. They were big a juicy and really delicious. They definitely live up to the Best of the Best awards they've gotten over the years. Our server was patient and quick. She was the only one on and we were never thirsty and we never wondered where our food was after we put in our orders. I was honestly surprised because I'd been warned that the service was sloooooow. The atmosphere is perfect for burgers and beers after a long day at work despite the sign forbidding profanity (sarcasm, I'm sure). As one approaches this place, it appear to be just another dive bar. Upon entering, it is a dive bar with it Christmas decorations still up. The lights turned the old bar into a festive dining room. The wait staff was friendly, professional and very efficient. The place is know for it burgers, so I tried the cheeseburger. It had to be the best burger I have eaten in years. My impression is this is NOT just beef thrown on the grill. The meat is prepared differently as it had a distinct beefy, tender, and moist flavor....definitely not a greasy burger. Generally, the food appears to be prepared by a chef and is of gourmet quality. Yet the food is presented in the style of a dive bar. The service is slow as it takes time to prepare quality food. This is the best burger ever. I have tried many (since burgers are what I really love), but none are as good as Farmers Home Tavern. Love 'em. (My only complaint was that I left my billfold there. I called about it the next day but they claimed they hadn't seen it. We knew I'd left it there so a few days later my husband went back and one of the staff said, "oh, yes, it's been in the office." I was disappointed that no one had bothered to look. My phone number was in it as well as all my i.d. and several credit cards. Saginaw's local overhyped joke. Went out here to have their "famous" burgers. It was massively disappointing. The bar and "restaurant" is a dive. It's a dump. The burger seemed to be an afterthought to the people working there. It was nothing special. We like taking random Sunday drives, so one recent Sunday we set off for parts unknown. My partner's charge to me was to find the best burger in whatever part of the state we wound up in, so as we entered the farm country between Saginaw and Alma I did some research and found multiple recommendations for the burgers at Farmers Home. I also learned some history of the place; that back at the turn of the century, when farmers from the Saginaw Bay area drove their cattle to the stockyards in St. Louis, near Alma, Hemlock was a popular way station, and Farmers Home provided sleeping rooms as well as libations to the tired and thirsty herdsmen. That made us want to check the place out. So we did. First the bad news: If you're looking for craft beer and liquor, this is not the bar for you; when I asked what beers were on tap, the reply was "Bud and Bud Lite." Period. When I asked if they had any Michigan beers, the waitress just chuckled. So Labatt's it was. My partner, who was a bit more persistent, eventually scored a Palm Belgian ale (which we later learned had been paid for by a Miller rep sitting at the bar. Score! Thank you, kind sir.) Good news: That was really the only bad news. We totally enjoyed ourselves here. The burgers did not disappoint; huge and juicy, handmade with fresh meat from a local market, with a weekly specialty option (this week it was a teriyaki/pineapple burger), but otherwise offered with basic no-frills topping options. We also enjoyed the homemade potato chips, which you can get with a bacon/cheez topping option or poutine style with gravy. I had a cup of potato-bacon soup; pretty good. Other menu options are pretty basic; a few sandwich and salad choices, a couple of basket options. We showed up at the end of the Sunday lunch crowd so the place was rather quiet, but there was a large family table finishing their meal and a couple of other dining parties in addition to the perceived frequent fliers at the bar. Despite our first impression that Farmers Home was primarily a drankin' bar, it really is an old-skool family tavern where the whole family can go for a meal and where child booster seats and grizzled regulars share space. I am giving Farmers Home four stars for the burgers, the historicity and and the Palm ale; if they expand their beer offerings to even Frankenmuth Brewing Company products I can be persuaded to add another star. read more

After hearing and reading so much about the famous Farmers Home Tavern burger, I had to stop in and try it for myself while passing through Hemlock. The burger was okay. Not great, but certainly not bad. While taste was merely average, the portion was exceptional. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but if you're seeking value, there are few burgers that compare. Weighing in at over 1/2lb, bring a healthy appetite or opt for the junior. Have lived in hemlock most of my life, always loved this place. However the last 3 times I've been there food never came out as ordered, waited till food was cold to get silverware. Was never asked if wanted another drink. Went through whole meal with a empty glass. Service was absolutely horrible. Called for 4 days, left messages for manager, never one working, never a call back. Won't be back I'll drive to Saginaw or Merrill, where can get decent service. My son and I waited at the door for more than five minutes before anyone acknowledged us. All of the tables were either full or dirty. I asked the head waitress if she could bus a table for us and she said rudely, "I'll get to it when I can." She didn't apologize or seem the least bit concerned that we had been standing there for several minutes. If she would've been slightly apologetic, it would've made all the difference. We were eventually seated. It took about five more minutes for her to take our drink order. After more than fifteen minutes of additional waiting, our drinks never came. The waitress walked by us several times and never apologized or appeared the slightest bit concerned by this. The bartender continued to make drinks for several other customers. Our waitress continued to happily wait on other customers (the same customers over and over again) while we sat there. Only when we got up to leave did the waitress begin apologizing for any of this. In my opinion, this was the worst service experience I've encountered in a long time. I will never revisit this restaurant and I will highly discourage others from going. read more
