Professors were great, but certain campus departments (e.g., Tutoring Center, Writing Center, Academic Support Services, etc.) were EXTREMELY toxic. I have unfortunately witnessed staff mocking disabled students, gossip, and lack of professional boundaries w/ students (i.e., romantic grooming). FSC is known to have MANY concerning staff members who have been found guilty of serious misconduct. They either get swept under the rug, or get shuffled to the next SUNY school. Most misconduct goes unreported because the staff members are all "friends." And if you are a student reporting such misconduct? Good luck. You will face hostility, blame, and retaliation. read more

We had a weekend visit to see this Long Island school campus and curriculum. I have passed this school off of Rt 110 many times but never visit the campus. I'm impressed by this school , the campus and facility! The school has a long history, well established within the Long Island community, and a diverse curriculum. The school tour was educational and the guide was given by students; some are better presenters then others. Overall it was worth the visit. read more

We went with my daughter to open house in April 2024. We registered a head of time. Registration went smoothly. There were many majors available to see. We did go see the MLS table (medical laboratory services). They had refreshments and open tours around the campus. They had engineering lab tours. Campus is very clean, and grounds are very open. We enjoyed our visit. read more

The Graphic Design Program is a Fraud and extremely flawed. I Would not recommend going to this SUNY, Yolanda Drakkir is the most abrasive person in that department They set up a bogus test that either doesn't get emailed to you in a timely manner or comes days before the deadline. Once the seats are filled; the uploading of your test will be closed before the deadline; making it impossible for you to even have a fair chance. It's no wonder with the grogram director YD only working 3 days a week; This program has a completion rate of 10% with no job assistance after completion; per previous students posts and reviews. With soo many other SUNY Universities available this one gets a zero in program admissions. very difficult to travel to. I am not only not a student I'm what you might call a senior citizen. I went to the library to work on a project. I could not believe it. A zoo doesn't begin to describe it. Shouting like fans watching the Superbowl. In an academic library! And don't for a moment think I'm exaggerating. I asked the desk folks where the quiet zone was. "We don't have a quiet zone." The students at this school should be ashamed of themselves. The staff of this "library" should be as well I've been to many libraries, public and academic. This is far and away the only one to which I have no doubt I will never return. I'm sure they won't miss me any more than I will them. read more

I go to a different university but took a couple of summer courses here once. So I can't really talk about administration or general student life or any of that stuff. As a state college, the price was very good per credit. The two professors I took were nice, and it really wasn't too difficult to get A's. The registrar's office was also pretty helpful and didn't give me too many problems. However, one big problem was that they pulled that thing many colleges do where they canceled one of my classes mere days before it was supposed to start. So that kind of screwed me. Again I went here during the summer so there weren't a lot of people on campus anyway. But there were tons of parking lots with many spots, so I'm guessing (maybe incorrectly) that during the fall and spring semesters, it shouldn't be too difficult to find parking. The actual building I was in was absolutely disgusting. It looked like it was falling apart, classrooms and hallways were dirty and old, the air conditioner in one of my classrooms didn't work, and there was even a situation where a rat was running around in the middle of class. Lupton Hall is definitely a dated and disgusting building. But the chemistry labs weren't that bad. I guess you get what you pay for here. But for taking a couple of summer courses for a low price, it did its job well and I can't complain. read more

I haven't taken classes yet but I just realized they make you pay fees of $400 every semester for their athletics and health department. I don't even participate in their athletics and I have my own doctor and health insurance. I don't need to waste my money on their services I don't use. I'm not even a full time student. This is ridiculous. I only signed up here for an affordable program and they're squeezing money out of students for no good reason. read more

As a post back for the hard sciences, I feel the professor student ratio is well balanced. I don't want to say anything bad about some other universities, so I wont, but here they do take an interest in the students which goes a long way. Support from faculty is invaluable. Professors like Prof. Ciano, Dr. Marsillo, Prof. Jonathan Wolf, and Dr. Lloyd Kupferman make the university experience more than palatable, but fun, interesting, and engaging. I am so thankful that Dr. Jaclyn Schiffmiller who studied at Columbia University's Physical Therapy program had recommended I attend Farmingdale State University. read more

Great college, I enjoyed attending Farmingdale College the professor's care about the students, I felt as if I was apart of a community.

Three stars is being a bit generous, but I feel is worth it. While the campus itself is clean the professors need a touch up of their own. During my time as a student half of my professors needed to take classes of their own on teaching practices. From the class work being easy to then seeing a very difficult exam it's a mess. Just because a person has a Masters or a PhD doesn't mean they can teach students in an effective manner. To the handful of professors that use third party products to teach, please stop you are making students waste their money and time. read more

The good: I graduated in 2005 and after a 10 year hiatus came back Spring 2015 to pursue a BS. I'm the type who wants nothing to do with the insanely overcrowded 60+ student auditorium style classrooms you get at colleges in the city. I'm a human being not cattle. For the most part I hate Manhattan in general. I don't mind driving an hour to Farmingdale 4 hours before class starts just so I can relax in the Greenley library basement and study/surf. In the early 2000's on-campus food was dismal but they recently stepped up their game by adding Starbucks as well as a few other well known food places (I think Quizno's?) to the relatively new student center building. Those have to be some of the cleanest bathrooms I ever saw! (I'm told that the building went up in 2013.) Their book store inside there is run by Barnes and Noble and is pretty well kept. I guess sometimes chains are good for something. I find that the professors are a mixed bag but on the whole aren't bad if you're a good student interested in the material. Most of the people slamming on Farmingdale and crapping on the professors are the slack jawed 18 year old puke kids who want their hands held, butts wiped, and expect an A just for showing up occasionally. Don't be lazy, show up to class every time on time, work hard, sit in front, be diligent, put your goddam phone away during class, and you'll do fine. This is a college not kindergarten. Some of the best teachers I ever had in my life were at Farmingdale in the early 2000's and I'm hoping to have them again. One of the secrets is that lots of the professors also teach at big name schools or are graduates of hotshot places like Princeton or Berkeley. (Protip: When making your schedule use www.ratemyprofessors.com and cherry pick the ones with the best reviews. Works for me.) They're one of the oldest SUNY schools in the system with a rich history smack dab in the middle of Long Island and under 1 hour from the most important city in the world. The campus itself is really pretty and it's worth noting they really improved the layout since the early 2000's. They're very big on aeronautics (Republic Airport is right there), nursing, and just finished a gorgeous looking "School of Business" building and a mock house that runs on 100% renewable energy. Why aren't they doing research on campus and offering Masters programs already? They flirted with the idea in 2010 and again in 2013 but now that the current Headmaster is leaving I fear that's getting sent to the back burner. They need to stop being lackadaisical Long Islanders and pull the trigger. The bad: Dealing with the administration is TERRIBLE. Some of them are "The Housewives of Suffolk County"; bella girls with cotton candy between their ears. Worse than that is the other 80% of them who belong in a nursing home and are basically just old ladies with too much hair product that want to sit around talking to friends and act like they're doing you a &^ing favor every time you ask for something. If I had a SUNY pension waiting for me I'd be retired and dancing in the streets! I'm the most laid back guy you'll ever meet but everyone (barring the professors) turn me into that token prick who starts demanding a supervisor and ends every sentence with "yeah? put it in writing and CC my chairman". You can only send a man on so many wild goose chases around campus for minutia and have so many different people from so many different departments give so many different answers before he gets upset and puts the foot down. The silver lining is they're still better to deal with than the administrators at any NYC college. Isn't that scary? One last minor note though. I've heard mixed reviews about campus life ranging from "times have changed and this is now a party school" to "this campus is dead and I don't spend a minute more here than I have to". I'm a commuter myself but I kind of get the impression that the latter is true. Maybe if they build more dorms and add desirable Masters programs that will change. The ugly: Some of the halls are ancient, dilapidated, and falling apart. To their credit they seem to be on the cusp of major changes but the trouble there is all the construction is kind of an eyesore on the campus. Knowing them they're running at "Long Island speed" so expect it to be done in time to do it all over again. In conclusion: Overall this college has come a long way since the early 2000's and I'm liking the direction they're going in. Like any other college, you will get out what you put in. SUNY Farmingdale is what you make of it. (Yes I still call it that. No I'm not putting "Farmingdale State College" on my resume, I'm putting SUNY Farmingdale.) The place is a good bang for the buck and you might actually learn stuff if you make the right moves. I last went there at a very formative part of my life and I'm glad to be back over a decade later even if I am the Brett Farvre of college kids. I missed it. read more

I had a pretty mediocre educational experience here, It wasn't great but its what I could manage. The biggest complaint about this college is the student accounts, Financial aid, and advisory staff which are all pretty undeserving of work due to there inability to solve simple problems. I don't even attend here, however at one point I was thinking of joining their nursing summer program since I was off of school. I filled out my information for them to contact me. This was in June and I didn't get a call back until the end of August. By that time I didn't care for the program and my fall semester at Suffolk was around the corner. Farmingdale kept harassing me with phone calls, all from different people pestering me to sign up for the fall nursing program. After a two week call spree from them they finally stopped. This college is amazing. A bit small, and crowded at times, and the library could be made more better. Other than some minor flaws this college is amazing. They truly make you feel like you belong. Money well spent. They have good majors to choose from, flexible course options, and schedules. The teachers are smart, and Staff is really nice. A lot of resources available for students to not only improve their academic levels, but also their mental, and physical health. The campus is fantastic. For students who drive here, parking is abundant. They also have charging stations for electric/hybrid cars. A lot of grass to lay on on in your break, and nice campus. read more
