They tried to bill $1,733 for a 1 hr appointment check up- insurance (understandably) could only cover $896 of this. Because I must've had Clark Kent as my dentist for an assistant for 1 hour to cost A GRAND Listen, if you're like me, you probably are just looking for a simple cleaning and you rung them up to make an appointment. Have been twice and appreciate the friendly staff. Both John Harrison and Anna Enger have been great with my appointments. Answered my questions and I felt comfortable. The reminders are appreciated and they have handled insurance with no hitches. Worst dentist i have ever been to. Feels like a used car salesman. Pushed a deep clean on me and lasering my gums - without explaining it's almost a surgery! I agreed to the deep clean and making an appointment for that. Asked if they were going to clean my teeth today and the "dentist" refused! Even explaining i will schedule the deep clean i just want to have my teeth cleaned today as well. Nope. Said sure then sent the poor front desk in to schedule and tell me they wouldn't clean my teeth. Poor ethics, poor service, they don't care about patients only their pockets. RUN. read more

Dr. Harrison is very professional, and he will actually recommend not doing procedures or waiting if it isn't necessary (which I've never had anyone do)! I have been pondering what to say about my experience here. The office is, indeed modern. It uses a less-painful procedure and tool to do your basic cleaning, which is awesome. However, I have to agree with another reviewer who stated that they majorly upsell and try to guilt or convince you to take on additional procedures. That can get so frustrating and costly. My first visit for the exam and cleaning lasted two hours...and I didn't even get a cleaning. I take care of my teeth, regularly visit the dentist for cleanings and was told I had "early stage" periodontal disease. The woman who spoke to me about it laid on the guilt thick, telling me to consider my children (what?). She was so chatty that I honestly left exhausted. They made me reschedule for a cleaning after signing a doc to get additional laser services. These services were not covered by my insurance and would have cost approximately $800 out of pocket. Not to mention that they said this was necessary every 3 months. My husband was also told the same about his teeth and supposed periodontal disease requiring costly laser treatments. My dental insurance (and presumably most) only covers basic cleanings every 6 months. Seeing this, paired with the fact that I was scheduled for the cleaning and laser procedure with the chatty guilt-tripper made me cancel. The positive-the front desk staff is friendly, prompt and helpful and the online patient portal is very convenient for both scheduling and reading appt. docs/notes. In fact, reading through my appt. docs is what made me cancel the additional periodontal services and reschedule for a simple cleaning. Rogan did my basic cleaning and he was wonderful. Calming, thorough, and honest when asked questions. Do to the upsell nature of this office, we will be seeking out dental care elsewhere. read more

Extremely Bad experience. Had root canal that got infected and face swelled to the size of a baseball then had to have the tooth pulled and they wanted to charge another $1200 for that. I have been twice and am now seeking care elsewhere. They were taking so many x-rays that I stopped the young lady and told her I don't want anymore. She said I'm almost done and she then took five more. Then during my cleaning, the female dentist (not hygienist) tells me I have a small cavity in the front tooth caused by a gap behind a filling except I've never had a filling there. She's adamant it's a cavity but she says luckily she can fix it right now. I am never going back. I could give more examples but suffice it to say that I think their practices are very suspect. read more

Farragut Modern Dentistry, Maryville Modern Dentistry, Smile Generation 5 Separate Visits to two different offices for something that should have been done in two visits at one location. Total Amount Charged: $4,872 Initial Amount Quoted: $2,472 7/17/24 - Visit 1 Initial Visit with Cody Cooper Multiple XRays Periodontal probe Was told I needed 2 crowns on the upper, right rear teeth Presented with two options. Both were CEREC Same-Day Crowns. Upsold me on the CEREC Zirconia Crown. Dr Cooper begins the buildup of two teeth. Stops and tells me that I may need a root canal on the back tooth. I'm told that it was sort of like working on a car, that you don't know what you're going to get until you open the hood up. This was a surprise to me since they'd taken so many x-rays and there wasn't a mention of a root canal. I was told to think of it like a fence with a nerve sitting on top of it. That you never know which way it's going to fall. I was then told that I need to have temporary crowns put on them for two weeks, and to come back for either my permanent crown or the root canal. Total for two crowns: $2,247.25 7/31/24 - Visit 2 Second visit with Cody Cooper When I entered the office, they couldn't find me on the schedule. I had to produce my appointment card to prove my appointment. Temporary Crowns removed by Dental Hygienist Dr Cooper tells me that I need to have the temporary crowns on for two weeks to see if I need a root canal or permanent crowns installed. This didn't make any sense to me since that's what he told me the previous two weeks' temporary crowns were for. He then tells me that he needs to grind my teeth some more to install the temporary crowns and tells me he's going to put some nerve blocker over the nerves this time. This didn't make sense to me either since he had two crowns that were just removed from my teeth. He grinds my teeth again and brings temp crowns in. Dental Hygienist installed one crown, but has trouble installing the other one. She finally gets it installed and asks me to bite down onto something she put in my mouth. Immediate pain from my tooth to behind my right eye. I can feel with my tongue that the last crown is not seated properly against the roof of my mouth because I could feel a gap. Dr Cooper decides to grind the top of the crown down so that it would fit properly instead of listening to me telling him that it didn't fit properly. After several attempts of grinding and biting (still very painful), he finally decides to remove it and tells me that I need a root canal. At this point, he tells me that it's no wonder I'm in pain. He can see an infection. Advised of the additional charge for the root canal. $1,200. At this point, I'm under extreme duress and agree to the root canal. Had I known what was coming, I would have left at this point and went to another dentist. Dr Cooper returns and tells me he's going to go ahead and prep the tooth for a root canal. Without any additional pain reliever, he begins grinding and drilling on my tooth. It had been several hours since he'd first given me shots, and it had worn off by then. I'm practically fighting them in the chair (the hygienist had to try to hold me down), yet he continued drilling. He left the one temporary crown that fit in place, but didn't bother putting the other one back on. After he was done, he called in a 7-day prescription of Amoxicillin (500 mg) for the infection and a prescription of Acetaminophen-cod#4 for pain. He tells me to go to the checkout desk and schedule my root canal. I was scheduled for either 8/28 or 8/29, I can't remember which. I was in so much pain at this point that I readily agreed, not realizing that they meant a full month out. When I finally realized this, I asked for something sooner. At this point (not any time prior to this) I was informed that they outsource their Root Canal work to a contract Endodontist, he's only in their office 3 times a month, and I've missed the first two available that month, so I'd have to wait; and that if I wanted something sooner, I'd have to go to another location. This was a complete shock. The fact that they contract out their root canals was never disclosed during the initial visit or at any time to this point. Nowhere on their website, or in any of the previous conversations was I told this. I've had root canals done prior at two other dental offices, and it was all completed in-house and done over two visits. I ended up taking the first available, which was still two weeks out for 8/13/24 at Maryville Modern Dentistry. Dr Cooper called me the following week. Still in extreme pain and swelling in the right side of my face. I asked for more Acetaminophen. He called in another 1-day prescription and a prescription for a dosepack of Methylprednisolone 4. As a follow-up to my prior review of this clown show. 2 weeks later, tooth still hurting and could feel the crown moving. Went to another dentist. Farragut Modern never finished treating the infection, left a gap between the crowns for food to get trapped, and did a root canal/crown over a cracked tooth (this is the one I told them to pull, but they went ahead and did the root canal/crown anyway). Now that cracked tooth has to be removed, so I'm having oral surgery to remove that tooth, which is what I wanted in the first place. The staff were not only courteous and professional, they were sympathetic; taking their time to ease my nerves and making the overall experience more pleasant than anticipated. At my initial visit on 8/19/22, I was told I have periodontal disease and that I needed 2 root canals, 3 crowns, and a bridge. After having a care plan presented to me, I was told "what the doctor thought was what was best for me". I would have done anything to stop the pain in that ONE tooth and get it over with. They prayed on my vulnerability and had me secure financing for the $6300 care plan. During said treatment, the rubber shield meant to prevent any of the sodium hydrochlorite (bleach) from being ingested "allegedly" slipped and a fair amount of the solution was ingested. I immediately began to choke and cough and asked for something to rinse it away. Dr. E*g*r and her assistant sprayed some water in my mouth (which I swallowed to stop my throat from burning), and then they left the room for about 10 minutes. During that time, I got up from the chair three times to get drinks of water from the sink behind me to remove the horrible taste from my mouth and to stop my cough and burning throat. Upon return, I told them my throat was still burning and neither said a word. After my procedure was done, I was scheduled for my TWO root canals and the temporary crowns on 9/27/22 because the endodontist (who is only a contractor for the corporation that runs FMD) is only there a few days a month. My throat continued to burn after leaving the office; and 30 minutes after arriving home, I experienced extreme nausea and a burning stomach, all of which lasted into the late evening of 8/20/22. I did not call to complain because I really loved the sweet hygenist that helped calm me and I am not a confrontational person. I was just hoping that it would pass quickly. On Sunday 8/21/22, my husband and I reviewed the care plan (that I had to ask for MULTIPLE times), and noticed that there were less expensive options for treatment that were never discussed with me. These were options that would have cut my out-of-pocket expenses in half. They told me I needed the most expensive options for teeth in the BACK of my mouth that no one will ever see. I had planned on discussing this with the doctor while I was at my appointment on 9/27/22; however, that did not happen due to my unexpected decision to leave their practice. After being brought to the x-ray room, I was told they would only be doing one root canal and that I would have to come back.  After hearing that and recalling the negative experiences at my previous appointment, I abruptly asked to leave and terminate my relationship with the practice. I informed the office manager (Melissa) that I wanted the fees that were paid in advance with Smile Generation financing to be refunded. She told me that the bridge was already being made and that I would only be refunded $1000. After explaining that I found that unacceptable, and that I would not pay for services that were not rendered, she presented me a computer screen that showed my full financed amount of $6369 would be refunded. I requested my records be sent to me and I left feeling confident that my Smile Generation account would be credited for the full amount. After receiving my x-rays, I forwarded them (and a copy of my care plan) to my previous dentist in NY. Upon review of my x-rays, it is his professional opinion that one of my teeth did NOT require a root canal. He also told me that a bridge is terrible for my teeth, and that a tooth that only needed to be filled was ground down for a crown to accommodate the bridge! He also urged me to inquire why they neglected to schedule a cleaning or an appointment for the filling that I needed, during the 5 weeks between my initial appointment on August 19th and the subsequent on September 27th.  We all know why...not enough money in those. I have sent multiple emails to the office manager regarding the credit to my account, and she responded by saying it is under review by the owner and patient relations. Farragut Modern Dentistry is managed by a corporation called Pacific Dental, a company with many unanswered complaints and only a 30% response rate on the BBB site. Many of the negative patient reviews of FMG and MMD (Maryville) are in regards to the recommendation of unnecessary treatments, over charging, and the delayed return of funds owed to the patient. I had a abscess tooth. Didn't have a dentist in the area. Called FMD because they were close to my home. On the call I explained that I had a bad infection. They would not offer anything for the infection. They made me and appointment for a cleaning and to check it out. At the cleaning appointment they told me I had periodontal disease. I FREAKED out!! I go to the dentist regularly, usually every 6 months. I was devastated! They told me I needed a deep cleaning, irrigation and laser treatment. All paid by insurance except the irrigation and laser which was +$200. I opted out of those 2 items. Never giving me any antibiotics for the abscess. I found some antibiotics I had left over and took them to try and relieve the pain. then I had to go back for a tooth extraction. First one ever. Still no antibiotics. Weeks later I went back for a root canal/crown. I asked why no antibiotics? I told her I have problems with my ears and I was afraid I was going to get and ear infection. She told me No! Once the tooth is gone or the root canal is done the infection is gone. A week later I'm having pain now in that ear. I call her she tells me we don't treat ears. I went to my dr today. He says I have an ear infection caused by the abscess and not enough antibiotics to completely get rid of the infection. Not that this wasn't enough. My husband also went to them for a cleaning. Huh, he has periodontal disease. Needs a deep cleaning and laser and irrigation. This is a mess. I think they are charging everyone for this because your insurance covers it. Then they try to scare you to upsell out of pocket expense. This sounds like a scam. I will not go back here again ever!! Beware!! read more

Eye contact and a smile means everything to me in my business. The work of Dr. Harrison made all that possible. I love my new smile and it has boosted my self-confidence 100%. I still blush when I get a compliment on my smile but it does make me smile even bigger. His practice is cutting-edge while being the most friendly Dentistry practices ever in my experience. The chemo I had years ago finally caught up with my teeth, but Dr. Harrison has a plan. My relief and gratitude is enourmous. My experience is that the people running this place (staff and dentists) seem to lack empathy for their patients. There is no clear communication among themselves. It is frustrating to see this after you tell them what your needs are. Absolutely flawless experience!! I called around many dentists because I had a small emergency and was in a lot of pain. I was trying to find someone that was covered by insurance and was still a nice, clean place. I told them my situation and they said they could see me immediately. I walked in and everything was very clean and I was greeted by the kindest staff. I was immediately taken back to take xrays and be diagnosed. I patiently sat in the chair wondering if they would diagnose me and send me home because they had already closed and just invite me back in the morning. Nope! They could tell I was in pain and upset. They did not hesitate to take me back and start a small procedure. This is one of the best experiences I have had in health care (and I'm a nurse). 100% am switching dentists immediately. read more
